To all PWDCC Breeders and those who currently participate in the Breeder Program on the PWDCC web site For 2014, Breeder Program Policy Updates:

The PWDCC Breeder Program was developed to support PWDCC Rescue to cover the expenses of assessing and re-homing PWDs and to support the club in general.
Time to renew your PWDCC membership for 2014. To renew log onto pwdcc.org home page and click the membership button. If your information hasn’t changed, just sign your name on the form. Payment options are cheque, VISA or Mastercard information on the form, or use the PayPal option. With all payment options please send a completed, signed renewal form to Pat Vokes. Mail to Pat Vokes, PWDCC Treasurer, 24 Kinsley Street Nobleton ON L0G 1N0 905.859.6452 or contact her at pat@pwdcc.org
Breeders Time to renew your Breeder Program participation. This program supports PWDCC Rescue and gives you the opportunity to promote your ethical breeding practises, a win-win for PWDs! The forms are on www.pwdcc.org from the home page click the membership button. Please refer to the new board policy following.
DECEMBER 2013
As a breeder member you agree to support health testing for our breed in your breeding program. Our member Code of Ethics requires all member breeders to assume life-long responsibility for re-homing all puppies they produce should this be necessary. But we are often faced with non-member breeders who don’t take responsibility for their dogs and PWDCC Rescue steps in to re-home these unfortunate dogs. Member breeders* can support Rescue by signing on to the Program and additionally have the benefit of being listed on the award-winning PWDCC web site. Here’s how it works: A $100.00 contribution per year gets you on the PWDCC site. There is an additional $50.00 charge for a web site link should you require this. When you have a litter, just forward a completed Litter Due listing form to Deirdre Hall, our Breeder Contact. Click on the Membership button at www.pwdcc.org to download the form. Both sire and dam need to be registered in the PWD Health and Litter data base. This data base can be accessed online through the PWDCA web site under the database icon. All health clearances must be present on the data base, including JDCM test results on both the sire and the dam. European or other international stud dogs are exempt from the requirement for registration in the data base but health documentation is still required. One parent must be tested for IC13. A current CERF or ECR is required. A CHIC certificate designation will be accepted as “Clear by Parentage” for one generation only. The web listing is updated January 31st of each year with renewed participants. (updated January 16, 2011)
When a bitch is owned by two or more breeders, all breeders have to be members of the PWDCC in good standing and breeders have to be participants of the PWDCC Breeder Program and be individually listed on the PWDCC web site. The exception to this rule is if the co-breeder is a resident of the United States or other international location. Once all health clearances are verified, Deirdre will activate the LITTER DUE ENTRY. New this year: Full disclosure of litter information (i.e. sire and dam) and health testing information will be available for the public to view. Litters can be posted 4 weeks prior to whelping. And multiple litters can be posted at once. Remember to let Deirdre know when your pups are sold so that she can remove your listing. You can post additional litters during the calendar year for no additional cost. You can view the current list at http://www.pwdcc.org by clicking New Puppy, then click Breeder Contact. *You must be a member of the PWDCC for at least two years before participating in this program. (effective November 5, 2013) Participation in the Breeder Program does not confer endorsement by the PWDCC of any kennel, breeding program or breeding practices.

October 8, 2013, 8pm EST
Next year suggestions: • The club should ask for volunteers to assist with boundaries, possibly have a pop-up, explaining the different levels of the trials on a brochure. • Encourage on-line registration • Encourage breeders to ask their puppy owners to come out and see/participate in the Trial
Present: Sharon Lapstra, ON Mavis McClintock, BC Patti McDonald, ON Andy Gamache, Prairies Jennifer Byers, PQ Roslyn Eskind, guest Michelle Jackson, ON Kathy Dick, ON Pat Vokes, ON Absent: Glenda Newton, PQ Motion Mavis moves to accept the Minutes of July 23rd 2013 PWDCC meeting, seconded by Jennifer. Approved. Business arising from Minutes: Facebook – Welcome Laura Dolman – presentation and discussion. Laura was not available. We will reschedule her for the November meeting. Regional Specialty – Kilbride – Roslyn and Sharon Pat stated that we will probably break even, financially. She will provide the expense report next month. The event was well attended and it turned out to be a great day. National Specialty – Mavis Mavis suggested a Sweepstakes and Specialty judge for consideration by the board. Discussion was very positive. There is a possibility of an educational seminar as part of the Specialty. The seminar could be made available to all breeds. Mavis will put together projected budget/expenses so we can discuss at next meeting in November. Mavis will get more details about food, hospitality, hotels for the next meeting. Water Trial, August 25th 2013 – Laurel Creek Conservation, Waterloo – Patti and Pat Pat finalized the budget for the Water Trials. She stated that Cathy Gadd was in charge of expenses and she did a great job keeping expenses in line. There had been a decision to reduce the entrance fee to $40.00 per team per day. Pat had budgeted for $45.00 per team per day. Pat recommended that next year we raise the entrance fee back up to $45.00 per team per day. Pat suggested we promote member donations and ask members to volunteer. Motion Pat made a motion to donate $100 to Laurel Creek. Kathy Dick seconded the motion. Pat will write a cheque and send a thank you card of appreciation for everything they have done to accommodate the Trial. Sharon asked if we as a club should welcome members of the general public to the Water Trial to observe the Trial. Pat said we would have to word the invitation carefully to ensure that people don’t show up with kayaks etc. and distract the trial and that the public understood the etiquette of the trial which is “quiet and respectful”. The entrance fee to the park is $5.50 per day. Andy stated that Alberta Water Trials welcomes the general public as it’s a great way to promote the breed. Andy stated that they roped off the lake area so the general public could not get too close to the water trails. Mavis stated that B.C. had their water trials on the Island and the club assured the municipality the local event would be admissible to the general pub-

There were positive comments from new members Booster Show – Elora Kennel Club and B.C. Booster The date for the B.C. Booster is October 25, 2013. The Judge is Dan Erickson from Sweden. Mavis explained that she wasn’t sure if there would be good participation due to Parvo had been diagnosed in dogs in the area. The date for the Ontario Booster is December 28, 2013 at the Elora Kennel Club. The Judge is Keiko Kawada. The prizes haven’t been selected yet but prizes for Best of Breed, Best of Opposite, Best Puppy, and Best Baby Puppy. More to come. Report of the Treasurer Bank Balance: $ 15,116.31 Outstanding cheques: $451.03 Actual Bank Balance: $14,655.28 Pay Pal Balance: $313.27 There are: 135 members 104 renewals 31 new members 60 puppy members 13 breeder members The club received a cheque from TD Bank for service charges that should not have been charged $522.36. New Business Rescue Lorraine Wilson resigned from the rescue program. It was decided to de-centralize the program with a Western, Central and Eastern coordinator. Mavis volunteered to be the contact person from the Western Region; Michelle volunteered to be the contact person for the Central Region; and Jennifer will be the contact person for the Eastern Region. If the representatives receive an inquiry they will contact Sharon for advice. All expenses will be reimbursed should there be a need to pick up a dog. It was recognized that member breeders are great with rescue of their puppies therefore we haven’t had many rescue dogs to take care of. The club will send a note to, Lorraine Wilson, thanking her for her work over the past year with the Rescue Program. Table for next meeting Health testing for our dogs and requirements to be on/added to the Breeder List. Breeder contact – recommended that we model the program after the PWDCA policy to have consistency. Membership renewals will be e-blasted out to the membership. Adjournment and next meeting Mavis makes a motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Michelle. Approved. Next meeting to be held on November 5, 2013.
November 5, 2013, 8pm EST Present: Sharon Lapstra, ON Mavis McClintock, BC Patti McDonald, ON Jennifer Byers, PQ Roselyn Eskind, guest Michelle Jackson, ON Pat Vokes, ON Absent: Andy Gamache, Prairies Kathy Dick, ON Motion Pat moves to accept the Minutes of Oct 8th 2013 PWDCC meeting, seconded by Jennifer. Approved. Business Arising from Minutes Facebook – Welcome Laura Dolman – presentation and discussion. Laura was rescheduled for the December meeting. Regional Specialty at Kilbride – Roslyn and Sharon Roslyn stated that she is waiting for the Show Secretary’s report and invoices to close the books. BC Booster - Lower Mainland Dog Fanciers, Abbotsford Mavis explained that the booster was a success. It was a quality entry. The show entries were down with approximately 500 entries. This was possibly due to Parvo in the general vicinity and a change to the venue. In the past years they used to get 1900 – 2000 entries. Mavis: described the venue as having a series of barns connected to one another. There was a grooming barn, a barn with a dirt floor where the PWDs were shown, a barn with indoor washrooms and this was where other breeds were shown here. It is not the best venue for specialty, but there is lots of parking. Next year the venue will be in Chilliwack. Booster Dec 28 2013 – Elora, Kitchener Sharon is in the process of finalizing the judges and prizes for the Dec Booster. She stated that usually there is approximately an entry of 25 dogs. Breeder Referral Program The club is revising the Breeder Referral Program application form. The BRP committee met and has made some recommendations: To qualify for the program, breeders must support health testing. Mavis suggested that the club agree to ask for health testing and accept the CHIC certificate Clear by Parentage Program. Breeders should post the health testing information through the PWDHL database. Mavis: agrees that it is a good accountability step and good reason to use it. Bitch and sire of posted litters must be in the database. Breeders could also still send health information to Deirdre. Sharon stated that breeders should be encouraged to use this database. Pat: why would a breeder not want to enter info into the database? It provides a listing of registered name and numbers plus proof of health testing. Sharon: stated that using the database will contribute to the overall goal of protecting the breed. The Breeder Program supports rescue and health testing. New changes to the application include but not limited to: - Sire and Dam health tested - Bitch owned by two breeders, both breeders need to be listed, except where a co-breeder lives out of Canada. - Recommendation that breeders participate in the
DECEMBER 2013 13
new puppy program because it increases our membership and support our club - Breeders must be a member of the club for two years before being eligible to be added to the Breeder Program. Roslyn explained that one breeder did drop off the Program because she/he didn’t agree with adding the recommendation of mandatory participation in the New Puppy Program. It was suggested that the cost of $20 for this membership could be passed on to the purchasers.
promote the National Specialty. Adjournment and next meeting: Mavis makes a motion to adjourn meeting, seconded by Pat. Approved. Next meeting to be held on December 10th, 2013.
Sharon: stated that new puppy owners are provided with a supportive network and connect with other PWD owners. Pat: We have 13 breeders listed in the program. Do we know how many breeder members are not in the program? Roslyn replied about 20 breeders in the club that were not on the breeders list. There are many reasons for this. Most breeders do not need assistance selling their puppies. The breeders from Quebec would like to see the web site have a French language section. Mavis: purchasers should do their homework.

Also in residence is his litter sister Ch Samador Georgia On My Mind “Bluebell”. Rainy is a very sweet tempered fellow who truly would rather sit on your lap than anything else. He does, however, love to retrieve and is a good paper boy, carrying the morning paper from the somewhat distant paper box to the house in the morning.
