Timescale

Bright Young Things is a wedding photography company of Jessie Leong, a yorkshire-based photographer who specialises in the outdoors.

To create a brand identity for Bright Young Things.

Consider how to incorporate the idea of working outside in natural settings within the logo in particular. Also consider how Jessie’s light and bubbly personality can be reflected across the branding.

Informal, friendly, professional, young.

Logo Research

Branding Ephemera Research

Web Design Research

When looking at existing logo designs, I thought that the more minimalistic approaches were more suited for the Bright Young Things brand, as Jessie was looking for something young yet professional in aesthetics.

I had a look into what kind of branding ephemera I could design for Bright Young Things. With the minimal aesthetics in mind, I looked for vibrant and exciting colours to make the simplistic aesthetics pop.

Jessie had already discussed how she wanted a website that followed structural guidelines and focused on the imagery over anything else.

Minimal colour and stripped back typefaces seemed to catch my attention the most during my research.

Business cards and lookbooks were my main focus for research for this brand in regards to ephemera.

Whilst researching into existing websites I soon realised that using a blog would be extremely beneficial in terms of usability as well as photographic layout.

Logo Development

Website Development

The logo took weeks to develop fully, as the client was so busy that it was hard to get in contact with her in order to progress with ideas.

After discussing blogging possiblities with Jessie, we decided to work with Wordpress as a platform for the design of the website.

Designing the website was harder than I thought it would be, as the layout and overall feel to the design obviously had to reflect the current branding.

The logo had to be reconsidered as after a few weeks, Jessie decided that she wanted the brand to specialise in outdoor wedding photography to stand out from the crowd.

We chose Wordpress as it seemed to be easy to use for both the designer and the user. Wordpress also has a variety of templates that can be manipulated and personalised.

However, using Wordpress made the whole process much easier, as I didn’t have to worry about coding a website from scratch.

Branding Ephemera The modern and simplistic aesthetic complimented with a splash of colour helped to make the Bright Young Things brand have a young yet professional identity. This splash of colour is particularly effective in the triplex business cards as they look plain from first glance, but have an exciting edge to them.

I decided to stick to quite a basic set of branding ephemera, as Jessie didn’t feel as though we needed to branch out to a large variety of products. This decision also came down to the low printing budget for the brand.

Business Cards & Logo The logo was designed around the idea of using a compass, because of the photographer’s love for being outdoors and hiking. The icon within the logo has been designed to look like the aperture of the camera lens is made up of a compass. The business cards were designed to be very straight forward and clear, as

the client wanted to make sure that the contact details were easy and quick to read. The colour red was used in the logo and contact details for the business cards to reflect on the red arrow that you find on a compass. The use of red also helps to make the simplistic card stand out and attract the eye.

Watermarks A secondary logo was created to be used as a watermark on photographs. The watermark can also be used on banner photos for blog posts and has been used on the reverse side of the business cards.

Web Design The homepage was designed using circular images to compliment the circular shape of the logo. These images will then take you through to blog posts of different weddings. The layout of the website content has been used to resemble the typical blog layout of scrolling through images and text posts.

An enquiry page was created for potential clients as it allows a simple point of contact between clients and Jessie Leong. The colours used are very soft and almost non existent so that you aren’t distracted from the imagery .

Web Design Across Platforms The website was designed to work across different platforms, such as mobile phones. Consideration was taken into how the layout would work on such platforms, as this allows potential clients to have constant access to the website when commuting or abroad.
