Design Publication Research As Instagram has become my “go to source for inspiration, I decided to look further into Instagram images and work out how I could incorporate this concept into my case study. One thing that was a common occurence on Instagram was the idea of having your account follow a particular theme for a consistent feed.
I also really love how many Instagram accounts are filled with bright and colourful images. I realised that most of the accounts I follow are either lettering based or filled with bright and vivid imagery. I also had a look at existing publications and designers who like to
use square layouts like the Kwadraat Bladen series.

Idea Development At first I was set on creating a video of myself producing some lettering or hand painted typography using different vibrant colours on a mirror to “reflect my practice”. However, after much deliberation I didn’t feel as though it showed my research methodology thoroughly. The idea to focus on the theme of
Instagram and design something that looked like an Instagram feed was so much more appealing to me as it helped to show how I find my research and sources for inspiration. As most Instagram feeds follow a theme, I decided to work around the theme of colour in my research, as I am always considering the use of
colour and really enjoy bright and vivid colours used within design.

The Front Cover I made the front cover myself using Buckram bookcloth and some mountboard. I chose to buy the Buckram in a turquoise colour, as my personal branding uses a lighter version of this colour so thought that it would look nice alongside my personal branding.
I even used my logo from my personal branding for the front cover. I didn’t really want to give the book a title as the context reflects myself and my personal research methodology, so felt as though my name was more suited than a descriptive title.

Inside The Publication The publication itself was designed to pull out like a consertina and reveal the long ‘feed’ of colour, almost like scrolling down an instagram feed. The 3 column grid was taken from the typical grid system on Instagram and each image has been made to be the same size as an image displayed on an iPhone 5s via the Instagram app.
