The Wine Times

Hello Members,

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacations and time with friends and family! We are looking forward to reopening the Clubhouse in September after the updates are complete and can’t wait to plan events in the revived spaces!

While July and August will be much slower for us this year, we do have a couple of things on the calendar. Our annual 4th of July event is always a favorite amongst the membership, which happens on the actual holiday. We kick off the event with a golf cart parade through the neighborhood, complete with a local firetruck, live band, vintage cars, and beads & candy to throw out! Then, we have two parties that evening, one on the Driving Range, and one inside in the Bistro Dining Room. The Driving Range event is open to all ages and a great place for families to enjoy face painting, balloon artists, inflatables, games and fireworks! The Bistro Dining Room is for adults only, for those that would like to enjoy a nice dinner, light music, and watch the fireworks from the balcony.

We are also hosting our annual Wet & Wild Day for kids on Saturday, July 29th, which is a complimentary event for members. This year, we are excited to add a foam party aspect to the event, and will still have the waters slides, slip n slides, water balloons, snow cones and bubbles!

As always, we may have some other “pop-up” events this summer, so be sure to check your emails and the app for updates. I look forward to seeing you around the Club!

Greens Update

As I write this, we are in the beginning of a week of oppressive heat with multiple days in a row forecasted to be over 100 degrees. This is just the beginning of summer and I’m sure we will have many more like it to follow. Please take care when on the course this summer and stay hydrated.

As you are probably aware, we have elected to again skip the early summer aerification in an effort to allow for more optimal playing days during the summer months. Our first summer aerification this year is scheduled to begin on July 10th with us wrapping things up by July 27th. We will be utilizing this time to continue with the aggressive cultural practices necessary for the long term health of the course you have become used to over the last couple of years. The greens and fairways will be aerated two times each with heavy sand top-dressing to both areas. Sanding the fairways is a practice we began in 2021 and will be continued again this year. The addition of top-dressing the fairways is an effort to improve the playable area of the fairway and reduce the dreaded “mud ball”. In addition to aerating and sanding greens and fairways we will be addressing tee boxes and approaches as well. Cart path repair is again scheduled to take place during this time along with multiple sub-surface drainage installations in key areas around the course. This time will also be used to re-grass select tee boxes to Zeon Zoysia grass. It should be noted that the range will have limited availability during the aerification closure. The range will be completely closed to practice Monday, July 10 – Thursday, July 13. The range tees will reopen Friday, July 14. The three practice greens will remain closed for the entire closure.

We are continually looking for ways to improve the overall landscaping around the Club and the last couple of months have been no exception. The summer annuals were installed all around the club during the month of May and are really showing their beauty. In addition to annuals, we are replacing plant material in beds around the course that are in need of a little refresher. Watch these areas throughout the summer as they will continue to fill out and mature. We are nearing completion of the landscaping installation around the pool and tennis areas. The new landscaping has transformed the area and is a terrific addition to the club.

We in Golf Course Maintenance look forward to seeing you out here during the sweltering heat of summer and are always here working to provide you with the best conditions possible for your next round of golf.

The World of Golf

The summer heat has arrived and with it the summer schedule at Royal Oaks. The golf staff would like to thank the members for your continued support and participation in all our wonderful events throughout our spring season.

The golf course has continued to thrive as our temperatures have increased to prime growing conditions. For both the Spring Member-Guest and Club Championship, the course was received extremely well by the participants and played a perfect balance of challenging and fair.

Construction is underway for the starter building located on the right-hand side of the cart path on the way to number one tee. During this time, please help us avoid congestion by using number nine to access the back end of the range. This major improvement to the golf operation is scheduled to be completed as the golf course re-opens from the closure and will streamline the process of providing your group with the needed supplies.

Pace of play has seen an improvement with the implementation of our new policy. The biggest issue the professional staff has observed is a delay in between holes nine and ten. The Turn is designed to be a quick stop to pick up food and drinks that were already ordered. Please call The Turn as your group completes hole eight and order your favorite food or drink before teeing off on the ninth hole. This minute change to your routine will have a profound impact on your group’s pace of play and ensure a smooth transition from the front nine to the back nine.

Please remember to visit the website for upcoming events around the Club and upcoming MGA and WGA tournaments.

We look forward to seeing you around the Club!
