Legacy - A Cocktail of Insights

ANOTHER ISSUE OF legacy is finally here. Just in time for the summer holidays. We continue to report on all things 'Tabler' to enrich your life as a brother. The World Meeting in Cape Town is getting closer by the minute - less than two months away. What can you expect? Read all about it starting on page 68.

One thing I think will be different this World Meeting is that there will be a lot fewer G&T's served - instead I hope the Tablers attending will order the "Fellowship Grog". professional bartender, and Tabler, david Nilsson has composed a special Round Table cocktail. prepare to be thirsty when you get to page 40.

A connoisseur of cigars? We got you covered. on page 56 you can dive into the world of tuscany and cubans. Courtesy of our C.S.o daniele Cusi.

one thing that's comes to mind when reading this issue is that we as Tablers are great at looking outside our organization and helping others in need. A great example of that is Ukraine Aid Convoy - that have been helping the people of Ukraine for over a year now. A great example of what we can achieve if we work together.

Looking within our organization we are working with something equally important - the mental health challenges faced by men. The initiative 'Check-In Tuesdays' have been widely embraced by Tablers and we are raising awareness on important issues close to us. Find more information on pages 28 and 46. during the past six months I have been battling the physical and mental consequences of long-term stress. And I know how easy it is to just say: I'm fine (when you're actually not). A call or a text from a fellow brother can make a huge difference if we learn to be open and honest with ourselves and each other.

For those of you who are proud owners of a kilt, or those of you who are aspiring, now you can learn how to master the art of wearing one on page 52. Everything from shoes, shirt, socks, underwear (or lack thereof). There is a lot more to discover in this issue. perhaps you want to know more about the RTI Board Assistants? or as they are also known as: "The presidents' Minions". please enjoy the summer and another issue of Legacy. Take care and stay classy...and Banana!

RTI PRESIDENT

From the President’s Desk

FIRSTLY, I WOULD LIKE TO EXPRESS my gratitude to all the readers of the third edition of Legacy this year. Legacy has become an essential part of our regular communication at RTI, and it brings tremendous energy and motivation to our writers, editors, and designers when we receive positive and constructive feedback.

While we have moved past the challenging times of the Covid era, its impact on our lives is still noticeable, especially in the realm of tabling. The global everyday lifestyle has significantly changed in the post-Covid era, affecting our physical, personal, behavioural, and financial perspectives. The world is currently experiencing recessionary pressures, and this is also influencing tabling activities.

Recent times have brought about numerous attitudinal changes in individuals. I believe our priorities as brothers are clear: family comes first, followed by our professional commitments, and then tabling. Although these priorities have always been the same, blending the three was more seamless before the era of lockdowns. With remote work, reduced working hours, and limited travel, it has become increasingly challenging for individuals to strike the right balance and allocate appropriate time to each aspect of their lives.

Mental health and well-being have emerged as our RT Family members' biggest challenges. We have noticed a rise in stress, anxiety, and depression cases within our community. Despite these challenges, I firmly believe that tabling can offer valuable support to our members, helping them overcome the mental health issues they are experiencing.

Now is the time to put the saying "Brothers from different mothers" into action in real life. I firmly believe that the Table can serve as the best source of emotional support, motivation, inspiration, constructive feedback, and, most importantly, sharing experiences and knowledge. Let us embrace the power of brotherhood and friendship within our community.

during the last quarter, I had the opportunity to travel to several countries in Europe and meet my brothers and RT Family members there. It was truly inspiring to witness people embracing fellowship and using tabling/circling as a stress reliever and a way to take a break. I was overwhelmed by the activities and the efforts made to elevate tabling to new heights of success.

I also had the privilege of witnessing the power of the RT Family in action. The devastating flooding that occurred in Italy in May is known to all. Some of our members faced severe consequences as a result. However, how the RT Family collaborated collaboratively in rescue operations was commendable. There is still much more to be done, and I urge the fraternity to show their generosity and support them in their endeavours.

Lastly, I would like to extend my gratitude to the editorial team for yet another fantastic edition of Legacy. I hope our readers thoroughly enjoy it.

Happy Reading!

Ready for Leadership: Your Year Ahead!

TAKING ON A ROLE IN ROUND TABLE demonstrates a significant level of commitment. It showcases dedication towards oneself, fellow club members, your family, and brings immense joy. For over 96 years, Round Table has provided young men with various skill sets. We fulfil diverse local, regional, national, and international roles. Throughout this year, we act as an inspiration for many others to follow. In addition to our businesses, work, family, and friends, we engage ourselves in our movement. But what does leadership mean to us, and how can you prepare yourself and your team to work together as one?

I once had the opportunity to attend a workshop about Round Table at a local club in South Africa. The question raised there was: What does Round Table mean to you? For some of us, RT represents service, charity, and responsibility towards society. For others, it signifies fellowship and friendship. Some see it as an opportunity to meet old friends for the first time and explore the world. A few of us leverage it for business networking and opportunities. Round Table holds a unique meaning for each tabler worldwide. These perspectives may evolve over your time at the table, but they bind us all together as one world. When discussing leadership, we must consider these various aspects, as every individual, club, and association works differently and focuses on different areas.

during your year in any leadership role within Round Table, you can contribute and bring your visions to our movement. You will gain a vast toolbox filled with new skills, experiences, passion, patience, cultural understanding, and more. But what does it take to be a good leader and perform exceptionally during your year?

In general, we can say that there is no single way to describe great leadership skills. However, there are key elements that we, as tablers, should consider when taking on a portfolio. Leadership skills encompass implementing various activities, managing projects, leading meetings, and empowering others.

Numerous books recommend active listening, empathy, the ability to communicate clear messages and simplify complex ideas for everyone's understanding, strategic thinking skills, creativity, the ability to inspire and persuade others, flexibility, the capacity to turn information into action, and project planning, among others.

These suggestions may sound ideal in theory, but how does the actual planning phase within Round Table look? Within Round Table, it is undoubtedly a combination of various skill sets. Allow me to provide some examples of how I am currently preparing for my presidency:

Be yourself – be a Tabler: In Round Table, we are all equal, regardless of our portfolio. The only difference lies in the amount of time, professional commitments, and family responsibilities that allow us to commit ourselves more than others.

Build a great team: Typically, some positions are elected, while others are appointed. Choose your team members wisely. It's not necessary to be surrounded solely by friends; instead, look for individuals who can effectively fulfil their roles. Foster team spirit and friendship by accomplishing shared goals throughout the year. Encourage your team members to contribute their

12 RTI LEGACY | F R o M THE Bo AR d

own ideas and passions. Lead by example and demonstrate adherence to the roadmap and deadlines. Cherish the time spent with your team, as the year will pass quickly.

Create a roadmap: plan your year month by month. determine your areas of focus and delegate tasks to your team members. Consider charity activities and possible joint ventures with Round Table Family members. plan trips you would like to undertake.

Expect the unexpected: Even with precise planning, unforeseen circumstances may arise. Surround yourself with a core team that can support you in difficult situations and provide guidance based on their experience within our organization.

Embrace the moment and sow the seeds: The year will be over before you know it, so relish every moment in your portfolio and strive to make a lasting impact. Remember, you cannot change everything in one year. Build upon the work of your predecessors and sow seeds that others can nurture as they continue to grow.

Avoid reinventing the wheel: There is no need to reinvent the wheel repeatedly. our motto is Adopt. Adapt. Improve. We can leverage methods from the past, adapt them to current circumstances, and enhance them where necessary. This is how we, as leaders, can showcase innovation.

These are just a few points I would like to highlight in this article. Everyone focuses on different areas; sometimes, a little input can make a significant difference.

Let us encourage everyone in our club to take on a leadership role within our organization. Leadership skills can be developed, and we acquire new abilities every day. Together, as a wonderful team, we can achieve significant milestones in our community, where our roots lie. Let us demonstrate our passion for our movement and take pride in being tablers!

Selfless Approach: Creating Value

ORGANIZING A LARGE-SCALE EVENT is a remarkable opportunity to provide immense value to our members while embodying the selfless spirit of Round Table. Whether this event is aimed at Tablers or the general community, ensuring value to all involved is vital. As young men dedicated to positively impacting others, planning and executing such an event requires careful consideration, meticulous preparation, and a genuine commitment to serving others. Here, we will delve into the key steps and principles to help you plan and run a successful large-scale event, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all involved whilst delivering great value.

DEFINE THE PURPOSE

Before embarking on event planning, clearly define the purpose and objectives of the event. Consider what value you want to provide and what you are trying to achieve for those attending. Write this down and communicate this – this helps keep you accountable. Are you aiming to raise funds for a charitable cause, foster fellowship and networking, or inspire personal and professional growth? Having a clear purpose will guide your decision-making throughout the planning process.

ESTABLISH A DEDICATED TEAM

Building a competent and enthusiastic team is crucial to the success of any large-scale event. Assemble individuals who share your vision and are willing to contribute their time and skills. Look for diverse talents, including event management, marketing, finance, and logistics. Encourage open communication, collaboration, and a selfless approach to working together towards a common goal. Involve individuals whose ideas challenge your own, as this will lead to a better outcome overall.

PLAN STRATEGICALLY

develop a comprehensive event plan encompassing all aspects, from venue selection to program design and promotion. Break tasks down into manageable milestones, set deadlines, and regularly review progress through catch-up meetings. Allocate responsibilities to team members, ensuring each task aligns with their strengths and expertise. Emphasize attention to detail and the expected quality standard, ensuring every element of the event is well-thought-out and executed flawlessly.

ENGAGE OUR MEMBERS

To provide genuine value to our members, actively involve them in the event planning. Seek their input, ideas, and suggestions, making them feel an integral part of shaping the event. This is easily achieved through social media polling or learning from other convenors of past events. This engagement fosters a sense of ownership and enthusiasm, enhancing their overall experience and commitment to Round Table.

FOSTER PARTNERSHIPS:

Forge strategic partnerships with like-minded organizations, businesses, and

14 RTI LEGACY | F R o M THE Bo AR d

sponsors who share our values and can contribute to the event's success. Collaborating with others amplifies our impact and widens the reach of our event. Seek sponsors who align with our goals, ensuring a mutually beneficial partnership that enhances the event's quality and value.

CULTIVATE A SELFLESS APPROACH:

As Round Table members, we should always focus on selflessness and service to others. Make altruism the core principle of your event, aiming to benefit not to yourself but rather to make a positive difference. Whether through fundraising efforts, volunteering, or providing opportunities for personal and professional development, prioritize the needs and well-being of others above all else.

DELIVER AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE:

Strive to create an event that leaves a lasting impression on our members. Ensure a seamless and engaging experience from the moment they arrive. That initial contact is a real make-or-break opportunity – do NoT MISS IT. provide meaningful and thought-provoking events and opportunities for networking and personal growth. do not be afraid to challenge the status quo. Incorporate elements that inspire and motivate, leaving attendees with a sense of fulfilment and a renewed commitment to Round Table's ideals.

REFLECT AND IMPROVE:

After the event concludes, take the time to reflect on its successes and areas for improvement. Gather feedback from attendees, sponsors, and team members. Evaluate what worked well and identify areas that could be enhanced in future events. Continuous improvement ensures that each subsequent event becomes even more impactful and memorable. Share these learnings with future event convenors to assist them in the success of their event.

planning and executing a successful large-scale event within Round Table is a testament to our commitment to service, fellowship, and personal growth. By focusing on the value provided to our members and embracing a selfless approach, we create an environment that fosters unity, growth, and a lasting impact on our communities. Together, let us rise to the challenge and organize unforgettable events that embody the spirit of Round Table.

Yours in the pursuit of remarkable experiences

Achievements and Exciting Journeys

AS MY TERM OF BOARD MEMBERSHIP comes to an end, I firmly believe that Tabling should always prioritize the floor, which we, as the board, serve. Therefore, I would like to share a review of one CEE member in this article. We focus on RT Romania, with input provided by Sebastian Antonie from RT10 Bucuresti, who supported the CEE Board this year as the Tabler.World manager

In Romania, the Tabling year begins at the end of May with three national meetings called "Comitet National," followed by the national AGM held at the end of May. This year, RT Romania celebrated at each of the three meetings. The first national meeting took place in September, hosted by RT12 Galați, where we celebrated 25 years since RT 12 was chartered. At the second meeting in November, there was a big party to commemorate RT 6 Brașov's 30th anniversary. During the third meeting, RT Romania also celebrated the 30th anniversary of RT 4 Suceava.

The AGM was held in Bucharest as a side-by-side event with Club 41 Romania and Tangent Romania. It welcomed approximately 180 attendees from Romania and abroad.

during winter, as is customary, RT Romania distributed Christmas packages. In the northern part of the country, RT 4, RT 18, and RT 20 provided packages to children that were received from RT&LC denmark. In Bucharest, RT 10, 16, and 21 collaborated with RT&LC&C41 Austria to give packages to children in the south of Romania, while packages from RT Germany were given to children in Transylvania and drobeta. This year, RT Romania was honoured to receive the CEE Club of the Year Award, which was awarded to RT 20 Botoșani. For those who meet Romanian Tablers at international meetings, they are well-known for promoting the national brand "Rocket Fuel."

RT Romania consists of 15 clubs, numbered from 1 to 22, with approximately 150 Tablers. We want to congratulate Florin Cușmereanu for a wonderful year and wish the new national board good luck

We are excited to head to Cape Town for the RTI World Meeting. Much has already been written about it in this Legacy edition, but for one of our CEE members, it will be an extra special WM edition. I am referring to RT Moldova, who, after four years of being an RTI "associate" member, are on the brink of being introduced as full members. I would especially like to salute Tim Stratanenco, who championed RT Moldova's cause. We hope to welcome them all as full members in Cape Town.

See you all in Cape Town, CEE!

Embracing the Future: Exploring the Region's Tabling Adventures

GENTS, WE HAVE PASSED the AGM season, during which many of our associations held their AGMs. New national boards were elected to lead Round Table into the future. It's a time to adopt, adapt, and improve our fraternity. I wish you all the best on this journey. It is a great honour and responsibility, but remember to have fun! Take the opportunity to grow as individuals, enjoy brotherhood and fellowship, and pave the way for an even stronger organization for future generations. pass on the torch of Round Table that we received from the previous generation of Tablers and let it ignite!

In the NEA region, we continue to embrace tabling and look towards the future with curiosity and optimism. This year, we have focused extra on our American counterparts and have some inspiring news to share. In April, RT Trinidad Tobago warmly welcomed us to their beautiful country for the Fellowship Lime. Tablers from across the Americas came together to table, have fun, share experiences, and discuss how we could forge closer connections between the Northern Europe side and the Americas. It was an incredible week, and I extend my gratitude to RT Trinidad Tobago for providing us with a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Your dedication to hosting the event was truly appreciated. I also want to thank all those who attended, with a special shoutout to the prospects from Guyana who may become shining stars in Round Table's future. We always seek expansion opportunities, and Guyana holds the potential for chartering in the coming years. With the invaluable support of RT Suriname, we eagerly anticipate further developments.

In addition to the Fellowship Lime, RT USA will host the NEARTM at the beginning of October. For more information, visit www.near2023.com. The club in the Big Apple is growing steadily and has seen positive progress since the challenging times of the pandemic. Well done to all involved! The NEARTM in the Big Apple is bound to be an unforgettable experience.

We have engaged in discussions with Argentina regarding chartering and expansion. Unfortunately, progress has been slower than expected, and we have no further updates now. However, we remain hopeful we can reignite the initial contact and bring you more news shortly. Thank you to RT Norway for their early involvement and efforts in making this possible!

After years of COVID-related challenges, we can finally travel and gather again. Seize the opportunity to broaden your horizons and relish the camaraderie with tablers worldwide. Round Table is spread far and wide, offering immense possibilities. Why not take a chance to visit a table or connect with a fellow brother in a new country? dare to reach out and make contact. dare to expand your network and explore new territories. Rest assured that you will be well taken care of wherever you go. Round Table is a smorgasbord (Google that!) of opportunities. I urge you not to look back in anger and wonder, "What if". If you have the chance and the right circumstances align, do IT! Stay hungry, stay foolish!

A Celebration of Brotherhood and Achievements

BEFORE DELVING INTO THE HIGHLIGHTS of the ASPA Meet 2023, I would like to express my deepest condolences for the untimely loss of Tr. Rahul dhanuka from RT India, whom I had the pleasure of meeting a couple of months ago at the event. It serves as a poignant reminder of life's fleeting nature and the importance of embracing each moment. Tr. Rahul, your impact on the lives you touched will be forever cherished.

The ASPA Meet 2023 surpassed all expectations, providing an unforgettable experience. Unlike large delegations where names fade into obscurity, this event fostered a close-knit atmosphere, enabling us to forge genuine connections throughout a few days. The city of joy, Kolkata, warmly embraced us, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Tr. Abby and Tr. Sumit for their exceptional hospitality. From our airport arrival, where tablers personally welcomed us, to the moment of departure, every detail was meticulously taken care of. Your efforts truly made this ASpA meet a resounding success.

The carefully chosen venues, delightful meals, productive meetings, and the prevailing sense of brotherhood were highly appreciated by all attendees. The presence of RTI president and the RTI Secretary was a motivating force for young tablers, who had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one discussions and gain valuable insights about tabling. The ASpA meeting was impeccably organized, showcasing the remarkable work accomplished by all associations. It never ceases to amaze me how each association, with its unique set of leaders and demographics, continues to significantly impact society while aligning their efforts in the same direction. Representatives from India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Singapore, and the philippines attended this esteemed gathering.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to two individuals who played pivotal roles in the success of the ASpA Meet. Nadeen, your unwavering support and assistance were instrumental in bringing this event to fruition. Without you, it would not have been possible. Additionally, I would like to acknowledge Jayant, who is more than a friend to me. Having worked with him at the helm of Round Table Nepal, I have witnessed his growth into an exceptional individual who brings immense pride to our organization. Thank you for being my rock and providing a supportive shoulder when I needed it the most.

I want to take this opportunity to congratulate every Tabler from the ASpA region who has made significant contributions to the region's success and brought laurels to Round Table. Your dedication and hard work have been instrumental in shaping the remarkable achievements of our organization.

The ASPA Meet 2023 was an extraordinary gathering celebrating the essence of brotherhood and showcasing the impactful work being done across the region. We honour the memory of Tr. Rahul dhanuka, and express our gratitude to all who made this event a resounding success. Let us strive for excellence and make a lasting difference in our communities as proud members of Round Table.

AGM Season and More

IF YOU ARE A WELL-TRAVELLED

TABLER, you already know that the past three months have been filled with remarkable Tabling experiences. From March to July, numerous Associations and Regions hold their Annual General Meetings (AGMs), where the Executive board is changed, awards are presented, and, most importantly, a strong sense of fellowship permeates the atmosphere.

I have had the absolute pleasure of attending three AGMs myself, including one outside of my own Region. I had the opportunity to visit the Netherlands AGM, ARTSA AGM (Associated Round Tables of Southern Africa), and, of course, my own Association's AGM in Malawi.

If you find that your AGM has lost its luster and Tablers are not always enthusiastic about attending, I highly recommend reaching out to the ARTSA team or the Dutchies. Both events were truly exceptional! Featuring laser shows, fire breathers, professional meetings, workshops, amazing food, great music, and, above all, the joy of seeing and meeting old friends for the first time. These events have created memories that I will cherish forever.

From July 7th to 9th, 2023, it is time for our AMI Regional AGM in Arusha, Tanzania, hosted by Round Table Eastern Africa. Round Table Eastern Africa consists of two countries: Kenya and Tanzania. This year, our Regional AGM will take place at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest freestanding mountain in the world.

WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM A REGIONAL AGM?

The festivities commence on Friday as guests from around the region (and the world) arrive at the airport. After being collected from the airport, we will check into the hotel, enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool, and, of course, reconnect with fellow Tablers. In the evening, we will come together for a Nations Night, where each Association showcases food and drinks from their respective countries. This delightful event provides an excellent opportunity to experience diverse cultures, cuisines, and much more.

The more formal part of the AGM will take place on Saturday. The meeting itself will be conducted with professionalism, with attendees dressed in suits and regalia. We expect everyone to be on their best behaviour; our Sergeant-at-Arms will note any deviations!

In the evening, it is time for an African themed party with great food, speeches, and handing out the awards for the year. Will you be taking a prestigious award home with you?

on Sunday, we will share a hearty (and much-needed) breakfast together before saying farewell and returning to our respective countries. Until we meet again!

We sincerely hope to see you in Arusha this year for our AMI AGM.

I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to all National boards that have successfully concluded their respective years. It has been an absolute pleasure working with each and every one of you. To the newly installed boards, I wish you the very best in the coming year and encourage you to keep the flame of Tabling burning bright!

UNDERSTANDING MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES FACED BY MEN

28 RTI LEGACY | BREAKING THE SILENCE

the Silence

Unfortunately, an estimated 703,000 people die by suicide worldwide each year1, three-quarters of whom are men. Approximately 58% of all suicides occur before age 50, making suicide the fourth leading cause of death among individuals aged 15-29 globally. While suicide affects all regions, 77% of global suicides occur in low and middle-income countries. In contrast, the highest age-standardised suicide rate (10.9 per 100,000) is observed in high-income countries. Let's explore the gender differences in how mental health problems manifest.

RTI LEGACY | BREAKING THE SILENCE 29
WHO, 2019
1

Men often report lower life satisfaction levels than women and are less likely to seek psychological therapies. They are three times more likely than women to develop alcohol and drug dependencies, and a staggering 87% of rough sleepers are men.

On the other hand, women between the ages of 16 and 24 are nearly three times as likely as their male counterparts to experience common mental health issues. Women are also twice as likely to be diagnosed with anxiety and have a higher prevalence of self-harm, with 25.7% of women and 9.7% of men in the 16-24 age group reporting such experiences. Additionally, women are more prone to eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorders.

WhyIS IT THAT MEN STRUGGLE TO DISCUSS THEIR MENTAL HEALTH OPENLY?

Societal expectations often emphasise men being strong, dominant, and in control. This societal pressure makes it difficult for men to seek help and express their emotions. Men are more likely to turn to harmful coping mechanisms like substance abuse and are less inclined to confide in family or friends regarding their mental health challenges.

CAN YOU DO IF YOU'RE CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR MENTAL HEALTH?

WhatSmall steps such as opening up about your feelings, maintaining an active lifestyle, and adopting a balanced diet can significantly improve your well-being and even save your life. If you suspect that you may be developing a mental health problem, it is crucial to seek help from your doctor. Together, you can determine the best course of action and be referred to a specialist who can guide you through a safe and effective healing process. If you feel uncomfortable discussing this with your doctor or family, consider contacting a trusted friend who can encourage you to seek professional help. Remember, talking to someone you trust is the first step towards helping yourself.

30 RTI LEGACY | BREAKING THE SILENCE

HowCAN YOU SUPPORT SOMEONE YOU SUSPECT IS EXPERIENCING A MENTAL HEALTH ISSUE?

If you are concerned about a friend or family member, there are several ways you can offer support:

Let them know you are available to listen without judgment.

Understand that reaching out for help may be difficult for them, so try to maintain regular contact through text messages or phone calls.

Research local services such as talking therapies or support groups to assist.

Help them access the support they need by reassuring them that they are not alone and that seeking help is perfectly acceptable.

Remember to take care of your own well-being as well, as supporting someone else can be challenging. It's important to set boundaries and prioritise self-care.

RTI LEGACY | BREAKING THE SILENCE 31
"Taking care of yourself" is of utmost importance. Assisting others is not an easy task, regardless of your preparedness. Recognise your limits and prioritise self-care. As Tablers, we are brothers committed to helping those in need, but we must also ensure our own well-being.

YEARS AGO, WE IMPLEMENTED an agile product lifecycle management system for Tabler.World's feature development. Every six weeks, we plan two weeks dedicated to software development. please note that these two weeks do not include system testing, documentation, and final deployment. They also do not encompass all the pre-tasks, such as requirement engineering, definition and clarification, cost estimation, and ordering.

Additionally, we need to maintain all of this and respond to the inquiries from 30,000 Tablers (and occasionally other members of the Round Table Family) in our ticket system. It goes without saying that this is not a one-person job. If you would like to support us, please get in touch.

If you're wondering what we have accomplished in the past month, here's a brief overview of the new developments that should already be live as you read this.

Firstly, I am thrilled to announce the release of our first feature, where all five Round Table Family members have contributed equally: Cross Family Events. With this feature, you can now share your event with RTI and all other family members. If they have enabled cross-family sharing, they can register for your event.

But that's not all. We have also implemented the ability to add pictures to awards, which will be visible in the profiles of the award winners. We have divided the statistics into active clubs, clubs in formation, and clubs in preparation. We have added a preview in the segments, saving you much time and hassle. It is now not possible to change a statutory year without all related functions being adjusted accordingly. We have also developed the ability to import guests who showed up but did not register beforehand for your event.

Last but not least, we are also addressing issues that may not always be visible to the user but need attention. This time, we have handled a potential GdpR issue regarding mailings to guests of past events, ensuring that users can unsubscribe if necessary.

What's coming next? This time, we have combined two development sprints and begun implementing a new prospect management system in the RoundTableFamily.World platform.

Stay tuned for more updates.

THE TORCH OF ROUND TABLE

38 RTI LEGACY | THE T o RCH o F R o UN d TABLE

The flame was lit almost 100 years ago. Since 1927, Round Table has brought about change and excellence in ourselves and our community. We have challenged, inspired, and learned from each other. We have travelled, laughed, cried, and enjoyed brotherhood and fellowship. We have built a legacy and the torch of Round Table. Right now, it has been passed on to you and me. Every Tabler worldwide holds the same torch with the message to let it continue burning brightly.

The past generations of Tablers have laid the foundation of what we have today. Now, we have the chance and responsibility to provide the same opportunity to the next generation, just as we have had. This way, our sons and their sons can embrace, adapt, and improve, having the same chance for personal development, experiences, travels, fellowship, and brotherhood.

A torch needs maintenance to survive; otherwise, it burns out. We have observed a decline in membership in Round Table, and it is up to us to reverse this trend. We need organizations like Round Table now more than ever - a place for brotherhood, fellowship, and support. A place where we can discuss joyful, easygoing matters and more challenging experiences. A place where we can laugh and cry, share stories and help each other. Like a torch, we can be a light in the darkness.

However, we must not take any of this for granted. We cannot allow ourselves to take anything for granted. Instead, we need to be grateful for what we have been given and let that gratitude inspire us to give back. don't ask what Round Table can do for you; ask what you can do for Round Table. Start making a difference right where you stand, and remember that all significant accomplishments always begin with small, initial steps. These small steps, in the long run, make history. Without brothers willing to grasp the torch to pass it on to the next generation, we face challenges with the risk of extinguishing the fire.

The future is ours to create, drawing inspiration from the past. My son asked me recently, "Why do we study history in school?" For me, it is so that we know where we are coming from, why things are as they are, and understand the developments up to the present day. It is to gain wisdom, learn, and be inspired. This way, we can take action for a brighter tomorrow.

Let us seize the torch and together make it burn brightly today and in the future. For the past generation of Tablers, for Tablers today, and for the next generation! dare to be a part of the story and the creation of Round Table from now on!

We Can, We Will!

Join us for a Fellowship Cocktail

As many of us are aware. According to the Arthurian legend, King Arthur held court at a Round Table so that none of his Barons could claim precedence over any other. When I got the question to create a "Round Table Cocktail", I started thinking about what "the Fellowship of the Round Table" means for me and in my own words. "A round table of Peers allowing everyone to speak their minds in turn."

40 RTI LEGACY | A FELLoWSHIp CoCKTAIL
41 RTI LEGACY | A FELLoWSHIp CoCKTAIL

IQUICKLY DELVED INTO VARIOUS IDEAS and advanced cocktail recipes, but in the spirit of Round Table's simplicity, I scrapped many of them to create a drink that is easy to make with readily available ingredients. Whether you want to mix it yourself or order it at a well-stocked bar, this cocktail will be accessible.

one of the most famous tales from the Arthurian sagas is the love story between Guinevere, Queen of King Arthur, and Sir Lancelot, one of the king's loyal knights. Ultimately, this love affair ignited a fire within the Round Table. Perhaps there is a moral lesson here about not letting a woman come between brothers.

From the Arthurian legend and the name Guinevere, my mind took a leap and brought forth another fellowship of men—The Sailors of the British Empire. For many sailors during the 17th and 18th centuries, life at sea meant being away from family and friends for months or even years. The only men they could rely on were their fellow sailors, and one thing that helped them endure was their daily ration of spirits. during long voyages, the water they carried onboard would often grow algae, making it undrinkable. They would mix it with genever or rum to make it palatable, sometimes adding citrus fruits. Thus, "A' hoy the grog" was born.

In 1655, Jamaica came under British rule, and sailors were issued rum rations of half a pint twice a day until 1970. However, it was not uncommon for unscrupulous sellers in ports to water down the spirits. To test the purity of the spirits, ship supply officers devised a method. They would mix a small measure of gunpowder grains with the spirit and set it on fire. If the mixture burned with a flame, it indicated a high alcohol by volume (ABV), while if it did not burn, it indicated a low ABV. This is why we still find spirits labelled as "overproof," "Gunpowder-proof," or "Navy-Strength" to this day.

The Fellowship Grog #1

Inspired by the tale I just shared, let's make cocktails! You'll need a bottle of Navy-Strength Gin - I personally recommend plymouth Gin for cocktails but feel free to choose a gin you enjoy. Secondly, we'll need a Jamaican rum with some funkiness - Smith & Cross Traditional Jamaican Rum or Appleton Estate Rum are both excellent choices. Finally, we'll add some lime and sugar to complete our cocktail. Below, I'll provide you with two versions of the same drink - one quick and easy to order at a bar or make on the fly and another that requires some preparation. Trust me, the extra effort will be worth it!

Check-In Tuesdays Gaining Momentum

It is widely believed that the average person tells four lies a day, adding up to 1,460 lies per year, reaching a staggering total of 87,600 by the age of 60. Surprisingly, the most common lie uttered is "I'm fine."

Mental health is a vital topic that deserves attention and discussion beyond designated months or days. Raising awareness and addressing mental health should be an ongoing effort integrated into our daily lives.

46 RTI LEGACY | CHECK - IN TUES d AYS

TO FOSTER A "CULTURE OF EMPATHY" and tackle this often-taboo subject, Round Table International launched "Check-In Tuesdays" on the 18th of october, 2022. Since then, this initiative has shared no fewer than 26 posts across all platforms, including WhatsApp groups, reaching an audience of tens of thousands. This weekly or bi-weekly social media campaign aims to confront mental health directly, ultimately breaking the stigma surrounding it.

From individuals and clubs to an international level, we encourage our members to dedicate a Tuesday social media post to mental health subjects, sharing facts and personal stories. Additionally, they prompt their audience to check in with their fellow RT Family, family, friends, and colleagues. The primary hashtags are #CheckInTuesday, #WeCanWeWill, and #MentalHealthMatters.

Since its inception, it has been heartening to witness numerous associations, clubs, our Round Table Family, and individuals embracing this initiative to spread

the crucial message of support. To everyone actively participating in the movement, we extend our sincere gratitude. Your actions not only brighten someone's day but can even save lives.

To those who have not yet joined the cause, we invite you to "check-in" next Tuesday and be part of this vital initiative. Together, let us strive for improved global mental health, driven by our culture of empathy.

Mental health deserves consistent attention and open dialogue. Round Table International's "Check-In Tuesdays" campaign is a powerful tool to promote empathy and support for those facing mental health challenges. By sharing our stories, supporting one another, and actively participating in this movement, we can make a significant difference in the lives of others. Let us embrace this mission and work towards a future of better mental health worldwide.

To those not yet on board, next Tuesday, "check-in" & Table on.

Reflecting on the commitment, collaboration, and impact of the Round Table's Ukraine Aid Convoy initiative.

It has been well over a year since war broke out in Ukraine. The unwavering support of the Round Table's Ukraine Aid Convoy has been invaluable to those affected. The initiative combines two existing convoy projects in Germany, supported by a network of four nationwide service clubs - Round Table, Ladies' Circle, old Tablers, and Agora Club Tangent. Together, they have consistently delivered much-needed aid to the crisis-stricken region.

Utilising years of experience and established networks in Germany, Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova, the "Weihnachtspäckchen-Konvoi" (WpK) and "Freunde helfen! Konvoi" (Fh!K) - the aid convoys - have delivered humanitarian and medical supplies to those who need them most. over the past 12+ months, more than 2,800 tonnes of aid, worth millions of pounds, have been delivered to the conflict zone by more than 270 trucks. The countless hands-on support and donations totaling over 4.6 million euros made this incredible feat possible.

Some notable accomplishments include 45 truckloads of 1,500 care packages, providing a week's worth of food for 135,000 people in the hardest-hit cities of Cherson, odesa, and Nikolaev. Additionally, medical supplies, truck-sized generators, fire trucks, ambulances, and other utility vehicles were distributed to Ukrainian relief organisations.

The tireless efforts of service club members and the countless volunteers who drove the trucks, organised the supplies, activated donations, and provided hands-on support in the field were instrumental in making this monumental effort possible. Florian Hell, a member of Round Table Saarbrücken and managing director of the "Fh!K" initiative, highlights the unparalleled volunteer work that made this project possible.

As we mark the one-year anniversary of the Ukraine relief convoy, the numbers speak for themselves, but they do not fully capture the impact on the lives of those affected. This journey has been about providing aid that truly makes a difference, and the unwavering commitment of Round Table and its partnering organisations will continue as long as there are people to help. despite the progress made, there is still a long way to go. Vanessa Holdysz, a Ladies' Circle Husum member and managing director of "Fh!K", emphasises the ongoing need for support, ranging from financial donations and medical supplies to volunteer truck drivers and storage space for donated goods. Thanks to the project's volunteer-based structure, every donation goes directly to the cause, with no administrative costs.

You can donate, volunteer, or simply spread the word to help us continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those affected by the ongoing war in Ukraine and be a part of this incredible initiative.

Mastering the of Wearing

52 RTI LEGACY | WEARING A KILT
STYLE GUIDE

the Art Wearing a Kilt

53 RTI LEGACY | WEARING A KILT

AKILT IS AN UNBIFURCATED garment, i.e., not split between the legs. It does indeed take a bit of courage to wear a kilt if you're not a traditional Scot. In fact, many more kilt wearers of nonScottish origin appreciate the style and look a kilt represents. one thing is sure: it gives you freedom of movement.

There are a few things to consider. pleats to the back

Traditional kilts are worn on the waist, not the hips. The rest is up to you and the situation in which you will rock your kilt.

TIPS FOR SPORTING YOUR KILT: A kilt can be dressed up for the most formal of occasions as well as worn casually. What other garment gives you this much choice?

1 Jacket: The choice depends on the occasion. Stick to a traditional black prince Charlie or Argyle jacket for formal events. A plain black blazer will also work well. It is entirely up to the wearer to use a waistcoat. The choice between black and tartan is altogether individual. Just ensure that the kilt's tartan and waistcoat's tartan match.

2 Kilt: Your kilt should have pleats to the rear and a fringed edge on the right-hand side. It should sit high on the waist, at the navel.

Kilt Pin: The kilt pin is decorative, a remnant from the great kilt, and is optional today.

If you have a favourite pin, plain or highly ornate, it should be placed on the outside apron only and not used to pin the two layers together. otherwise, you may inadvertently tear your kilt.

Shirt: Anything that matches the tartan or the occasion is fine, especially if you intend to wear your kilt casually. For formal occasions, the normal guidelines for suits and ties apply, but you have more freedom.

To create a modern look, wear a Victorian collar shirt with a Ruche tie or a self-tied stylish Windsor knot. You can also try a bow tie with a Victorian collar shirt. For a formal "country" look, wear a tweed jacket with a business collar shirt and a knit tie. If you opt for a bow tie, please learn how to tie it yourself. Nothing says the party is about to start more than a properly tied bow tie and an undone top button.

3 Belt: A good, heavy broad belt nicely finishes off the waist. opt for a bold buckle. Belts are optional when wearing a kilt with a waistcoat.

4 Sporran: The sporran is the goody bag worn in front of the kilt. It should be positioned around 12 to 15cm below the top of the kilt. You can choose between sporran loops and a sporran chain. The latter tends to chafe the kilt, so it's not always the best option. The loops ensure that your sporran is always at the right height.

Sporrans can be minimalist or highly elaborate. Choose one that accommodates most of the items you need to have with you.

It is best not to wear a furry sporran unless made from bovine hair. This is not only to conserve furry animals but also to protect your wardrobe. The hair on a sporran is an ideal place for moths to lay eggs, and bringing them into your house can lead to a disaster in the next season.

5 Kilt Hose: Let the colour of your hose match the occasion and the overall look you want to achieve. Ensure the socks are long enough for a fold-over and fit 3cm under the knee.

For formal events, wear black hose, as cream socks with

54 RTI LEGACY | WEARING A KILT
1 2 3

a white shirt don't go well together. For anything else, who cares? ditch the socks altogether and go barefoot.

6 Shoes or Boots: Match your footwear with the occasion.

Traditional brogues are perfect for a formal highland event. Still, at the end of the day, a pair of well-fitted, nicely-cleaned boots is often the best option.

7 Hose Flashes: Flashes or garters are there to keep your socks up and add a nice finishing touch. Wear them at 11 o'clock on the left and 1 o'clock on the right.

Sgian Dubh: Meaning "little black knife."

It is worn tucked into the hose at the side of the calf, with the handle of the Sgian dubh protruding from the hose about 5 to 7cm. Wear it on the right leg if you are right-handed and on the left if left-handed.Many countries consider it a weapon, and some venues may not allow you to carry it. These days, few people actually bother wearing it due to these risks. Just don't substitute it for a comb.

Plaid: If you want to add drama to an already stylish outfit, get a plaid to wear with your kilt.

It is a frayed square piece of tartan worn at the bias under the left epaulette of the jacket and pinned to the jacket. Not more than a quarter of the plaid should be in the front. Be mindful not to catch it in the car door and ruin it that way.

Underwear: If you're renting a kilt, keeping your underwear on is advisable. You have no idea who wore it before you, and neither do you or the next customer of the rental company want those worries.

If you own the kilt, let the situation and season dictate your choice.

If you get asked what is worn under your kilt, the best answer is: "Nothing, it is in perfect working order."

Please note that the tartan shown in the photos is not the official Round Table International Tartan. Many Round Table tartans exist, such as RTBI, RTI 1983, RT Sweden, RT Iceland, RT Germany, RT Estonia, and more. For information on Round Table Tartans or to create your own for your association, don't hesitate to contact Cargokilts at info@cargokilts.co.za.

BEYOND THE SMOKE

TOSCANA AND CUBAN

In the world of cigars, we have two prominent families: Toscana and Caribbean. determining which of the two is superior is impossible; it ultimately boils down to personal taste. Let's delve into the differences between these two varieties.

56 RTI LEGACY | BEY o N d THE SM o KE

TOSCANA CIGARS PRIMARILY employ Kentucky tobacco, which is mainly cultivated in Italy. on the other hand, Caribbean or Cuban cigars use sweeter tobaccos, often incorporating a blend of different types.

Toscana cigars consist of the FASCIA (the outer leaf) and the FILLING. The fascia, accounting for 30% of the cigar's weight, remarkably influences about 60% of its flavour. It does not require cutting or piercing, unlike Cuban cigars.

Cuban cigars comprise three components: Tripa, Capote, and Capa. The filling, known as Tripa, can be composed of whole leaves or shredded tobacco. This is enveloped by an additional tobacco leaf called Capote, which shapes the cigar. Tripa and Capote are further enclosed by a specially stretched leaf called Capa. To smoke a Cuban cigar, the Capa must be cut or pierced, typically around 2mm from the "head" of the cigar or through the middle of the "head".

Lighting a cigar correctly is no easy task. Using a gas lighter (never a petrol lighter, as it can alter the cigar's flavour) or a match, the flame should not touch the cigar directly. Start by warming up the "foot" (the end opposite to the one you cut), then take a few gentle puffs while turning the cigar to ensure even ignition. Verify if the burning end is uniform; otherwise, make necessary corrections.

once your Cuban cigar is perfectly lit, focus on the draw, the time between puffs. The frequency of puffs depends on the smoker's preference and the cigar's humidity. There is no definitive rule, but if the smoke becomes excessively hot or bitter, lengthening the

time between puffs is advisable to avoid wasting the cigar. Retaining the ash on the cigar is crucial, as it acts as a natural insulator, helping to maintain the optimal temperature for a controlled smoking experience. describing the art of tasting a cigar in a few words is challenging. Each handmade cigar possesses its own unique characteristics. External factors such as temperature and humidity significantly influence the smoking experience. Therefore, the best way to achieve a perfect smoke is through experimentation, taking notes, and engaging with seasoned smokers with more experience.

I'm not here to teach you how to smoke a cigar; I aim to ignite your curiosity about this extraordinary realm. I briefly introduced you to Toscana cigars, but there is much more to explore. While my knowledge about Cuban cigars is derived from extensive reading, I am still a beginner compared to the renowned "catadores" worldwide. discover your own path and preferences. For me, Toscana cigars hold a special place, evoking the flavours of my hometown— earth and leather intertwined with the wood used to cure Kentucky tobacco. However, Cuban cigars possess their unique charm, blending various tobacco types with hints of pepper, leather, and nuts, resulting in an infinite array of delightful and ever-evolving taste combinations. I could continue discussing cigars for hours, but I wouldn't want to bore you. Nevertheless, I am here, ready to engage in conversation about the captivating world of cigars, which extends beyond the act of smoking itself. Choosing the perfect drink pairing or indulging in the finest chocolates alongside cigars can be equally enchanting.

61 RTI LEGACY | AN EN d URING IM p ACT

A TESTIMONY TO UNITY, CREATIVITY, AND SERVICE

Three years after its launch, Round Table International's (RTI) 2020 image video continues to resonate, give viewers goosebumps, and capture the essence of Round Table, Tabling and the Friendships that are created. Since its premiere at the Half-Year Meeting in Luxembourg in February 2020, the video has reached far more than one million people on social media (this milestone was reached already in July 2020), transcending language barriers and connecting people worldwide. The extraordinary reach of this video is a testament to the power of unity and collaboration within the international Round Table movement.

REINVENTING ITSELF: TRANSLATIONS AND NEW VERTICALS

To carry its powerful message to all, connecting on a more personal and local basis, the RTI image video has been translated into over 13 languages / adapted for associations with their own Logo and Website. And the journey hasn't ended yet: my offer for more associations to receive their own localized version still stands. The video has resonated with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures – and we want to use it in the best way to motivate more to support and join our movement. The reactions so far have testified to the universal appeal of Round Table's core values and spirit.

On Round Table Day 2023, Round Table Germany premiered a new vertical version of the video, optimized for Instagram reels, on its channels and achieved unprecedented success, in particular by reaching a far wider audience than just its existing followers - outperforming all other posts of the past year in this respect.

WORKING TOGETHER, WE ACHIEVE MORE

I still get occasional suggestions on improving the video, even three years after we made it. Sometimes it is to provide more footage; sometimes, it is to correct

the grammar of the videos, which we deliberately skewed a bit for emphasis and attention. While it may be too late to incorporate these changes into the current video, the eagerness of the Tablers exemplifies the spirit of teamwork and collaboration that defines RTI.

As the creator of the video, I am personally proud of this project for several reasons. First, the video would not be possible without the local stories made by local Tables. Countless activities, fellowships, friendships, and service that are the very essence of Round Table International that were captured and submitted for inclusion in the video. Second, because the many uncounted hours spent with damian and daniel, working tirelessly into the night on iteration after iteration of the video, made the project even more meaningful and played an important part in forging friendships that will last a lifetime.

In many ways, the video captures what Round Table International means to me personally. I believe and have received feedback that many other Tablers feel alike. A fitting representation of all our commitment to empowering dreams, helping those in need, providing education, striving to excel, and fostering a global network of friends.

THE GOLDEN RONDEL: A SYMBOL OF EXCELLENCE IN SERVICE

The Golden Rondel featured at the end of the video has taken on a life of its own, used in award animations at Annual Meetings, Round Table International World Meetings, and even as wall-sized prints for the home office. It is a powerful reminder of the values we share and the strength of the global community we serve.

ROUND TABLE NETHERLANDS AGM 2024 IN CURAÇAO

RTI LEGACY | CURAçAO 2024 85

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you! The Round Table Netherlands AGM 2024 has been scheduled, and it will be an incredible event. Mark your calendars for July 19-21, 2024. But the most thrilling part is the location!

DRUMROLL, PLEASE... It will be held in the picturesque city of Willemstad! Now, you might be thinking, is that the city of dutch IRo Willem? Well, my friends, it's actually the main city of the dutch island of Curaçao in the Caribbean. Yes, it's part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, where a Table has been established. prepare yourself for colourful beaches, tropical adventures, legendary parties, and even the sight of flamingo legs!

The last time a dutch AGM took place in Curaçao was in 1997. over 600 Tablers, accompanied by their wives and children, made unforgettable memories during that event. Interestingly, some of those children who visited the Curaçao AGM in 1997 are now Tablers themselves, ready to create new memories as they visit and contribute alongside their own children.

2024 will be extra special because the RTI World Meeting will be hosted in Maastricht, the Netherlands. This makes it the perfect opportunity to hold the dutch AGM at RT 176 Curaçao.

Whether you choose to attend alone, with family, or with friends, whether you fly in for four days or stay for two weeks, this is an event you simply cannot miss. The stunning beaches and abundant tropical attractions will ensure that every moment of the Round Table Netherlands AGM in Curaçao is filled with excitement. Whether you seek adventure or relaxation, there will be something for everyone.

Make sure to mark the date in your diary and start planning for this fantastic event. It will undoubtedly be an experience that you will cherish forever!

of Owen Frye 3.0

RTI LEGACY | THE GHoST oF oWEN FRYE 89

EVERYTHING STARTED in 2021 during the pandemic. Travelling was not easy; however, being in South Africa during ARTSA is my priority. As many of you know, this is a fixed AGM in my calendar and this already for the ninth time. So Graham Cornelissen and myself started touring through the country before ARTSA and meeting many tablers and ladies throughout the country: In the Ghost of owen Frye.

Finally, the world functions as before, so it was easy to go to South Africa again. Everything started by contacting my dear friend Graham Cornelissen. people know him as the convenor of the Ghost Tour and for some other portfolio he holds. This year I did not spend my usual five to six weeks in South Africa as the World Meeting will happen there in September. So I decided to stay three weeks including ARTSA. Graham and myself made a rough plan and checked where we can go this time.

I landed after the Easter season on 14th April in Johannesburg. I already made a major mistake by telling him I missed Brandy and Coke, so we stopped already with great fellowship and some brandies with many friends in the Gauteng Area. Markets, sightseeing, and meeting with old friends were on the program. I was glad to meet the deputy head of mission from the Austrian embassy as I am currently installing an artist in residence program in Austria. We are collaborating with the August House in Johannesburg which we were able to visit.

Jukskei 217 took good care of me, and I was honoured to be the sergeant at arms during their meeting. This time I tried to behave and not destroy them already at the beginning. We also tried some sport shooting with our friend Ninja Ernest Lamprecht, and I was surprised how good I could aim. during this time, I also took my new drone with me, and we tried to make some amazing footage of Hartbeespoort and some nearby areas.

Time has come, and we started a domestic flight to Cape Town. We actually did some proper work for the RTIWM 2023 and checked some new locations and talked to some suppliers. After our official part, our mission was clear: Wine Tasting. So we took it very seriously and tried discovering many new wine farms and checking some for the upcoming pre-tour. This time we stayed directly in Stellenbosch and discovered the local nightlife. The Co-Convenor for the RTIWM, Skaap, invited us over to his house. There I had the possibility to prepare a Guinness stew. As a tradition in South Africa, this was done over an open fire with wood.

one highlight during the Western Cape Leg was going to one of the pre-tour locations: The Aquila Game Reserve. For everyone who is going on this tour: Congratulations! It was one of the best game drives I have done in South Africa. You will have the chance to see the Big Five and more. The area is very protected, so I would recommend you not post the location when you are there to protect the game on the farm.

90 RTI LEGACY | T HE G H o ST o F oWEN F RYE

This time in South Africa, I discovered the beauty of load shedding. You will not have up to eight hours of no electricity per day. You need to plan your day ahead if you want to cook, set your washings, or charge your devices. But this is, unfortunately, a reality all over the country.

Time has come, and we flew back to Johannesburg. After a Mexican night, we drove to this year's ARTSA location: Bushveld. What an opening night it has been. A perfect dJ, with great performances and awesome people. It feels like being home, simultaneously seeing so many old and new friends.

The forums were really interesting as there was motion in RTSA to raise the age up to 45. This motion did not pass during the meeting but led to great discussions. We also had the possibility to meet with the AMI team and discuss certain expansion projects within the region. one of the nicest evenings is, for sure, the area night. Every area is preparing a table with regional delicacies. Congratulations again to Werner and his team as outgoing president and a wonderful year ahead to Louis! For over 22 years, Round Table Austria and the Natal North Coast of South Africa have had the oldest existing twinning agreement, which is renewed during the ARTSA Gala and the Austrian AGM. Very thankful for this great privilege!

The AGM passed, and as nearly every year, a road

trip started. This time from Bushveld to Richards Bay. Thanks to Kevin and Ashley for the great experience! We had a lovely social at the waterfront and made a braai. We had lovely evenings with Boela, Tanya, and many more during these days. I had the joy of discovering golfing for the first time in my life. Luckily we only lost two bags of balls, and the loan was not destroyed that much. It was great spending time with Harm, driving to Eshowe, and visiting Ash and his lovely family.

The last leg was flying back to Johannesburg and sorting my luggage and getting ready for my flight home. Spending a couple of weeks in a different country is always an experience. It is even better if you are sharing this time with Tablers who became very close friends in the last few years. Going to South Africa is not like going somewhere on vacation; it is like going to your second home.

A huge thanks to Graham as the tour convenor! It was a pleasure, a unique experience, and something I will never forget. The Ghost of owen Frye Tour is an exclusive tour with one sweat drop and five brandy drops. Round Table gives us all so many great possibilities. A club founding member told me once: The Round Table Badge is the passport to the world –travel it well.

I promise you: I'll be back!

Bobotie

Preparation 20 min

Cooking 45 h

INGREDIENTS

3 slices of bread

1 cup + ½ cup milk, divided

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 large onions, roughly chopped

4 teaspoons medium curry powder

1 teaspoon dried herbs (e.g. oregano, marjoram, etc.)

1 teaspoon ground cumin

½ teaspoon ground turmeric

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

1½ pound ground beef

½ cup fruit chutney

1 tablespoon apricot jam

Zest and juice of one medium lemon, divided

4 teaspoons tomato paste

Salt and pepper

2 large eggs
