Commissioners William A. & G. Lorraine Bamford have served in corps and leadership appointments in Eastern Pennsylvania & Delaware, Western Pennsylvania, Southern New England and Northeast Ohio. They served as the Chief Secretary and Territorial Secretary for Women’s Ministries in the South America West Territory before returning to the USA East Territory in those roles. In 2016, Commissioners Bamford took up the mantle of leadership as the Territorial Commander and Territorial President of Women’s Ministries in the USA Eastern Territory.
The Commissioners are blessed with three children, Michelle, Nicole, and Bill, and six wonderful grandchildren.
Sunday Evening Guests
Cathy and Mike Himes are both the children of Salvation Army Officer parents. They have been involved in Army activities their entire lives. As soldiers they held the positions of Sunday school teacher, bandsmen, songsters, League of Mercy members, Bandmaster, Songster Leader, and Corps Sergeant Major. They worked at Divisional Headquarters in Pittsburgh and Saint Louis, in the Corrections Department, Public Relations, and Music Department. Cathy is a trained teacher with a love for child evangelism. She was commissioned with the highest grades in her session and received the Commissioners’ Award. Mike’s desire is to be a lover of souls. They met at Glen Eyrie at the Soldiers’ National Seminar on Evangelism. They will have but five appointments when they finish their thirty-four years of service. They are corps officers, first and foremost, currently serving at Manchester Citadel, Connecticut. They have three grown children, and two grandchildren.
Canadian Staff Songsters
Canadian Staff Songsters
Music is an integral part of Salvation Army ministry around the world, and the Canada and Bermuda Territory is no exception. The territory’s vocal ministry received a boost in the fall of 2016 with the formation of the Canadian Staff Songsters, under the leadership of Major Len Ballantine. The Salvation Army in Canada had a staff songster brigade in its early days, but such a group has not existed for about 100 years.
The brigade has shared in ministry across the province of Ontario, including on Parliament Hill in Ottawa and in the annual Christmas With The Salvation Army events at Toronto’s Roy Thomson Hall, in Calgary, Chicago and Bermuda. The group is delighted to minister at the Old Orchard Beach Camp Meetings as together we celebrate our faith and joy in all things music-making for God’s glory.
New York Staff Band
New York Staff Band
Since 1887 the New York Staff Band has maintained the highest standards of musical practice and Christian ministry. As one of the nation’s oldest, continuous musical ensembles, the NYSB has rightfully been heralded as “America’s Foremost Brass Band.” Motivated by a love for Christ, the band’s interactions with culture stand as testimony to its consistent engagement and Christian witness and participates at the forefront between the sacred and the secular.
All members of the band are volunteers, even though many have studied at some of America’s finest music schools and conservatories. Members give freely in addition to their regular “day job” as either an employee of The Salvation Army or as a member of The Salvation Army clergy.
Corps Bible Study
Lt. Colonel John Murray and his wife Brenda entered the Toronto College for Officer Training from Woodroffe Temple, Ottawa as part of the “Messengers of the Truth” Session. They were commissioned and ordained as Salvation Army officers in 1996. He is currently the Chair, Toronto Grace Health Centre Board of Trustees and has been appointed as Executive Officer for the Canadian Staff Songsters.
John holds a BA from York University, Toronto, a Graduate Certificate in Public Relations and Communications Management from Royal Roads University, Victoria, BC, and an MA in Leadership from the University of Guelph. John has also completed the Harvard Kennedy School Executive Certificate, Non-Profit Leadership. He is also an accredited APR (Canadian Public Relations Society) and holds the Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation. John and Brenda delight in their four sons, Zachary, Liam, Kieran, and Nathan and when he’s not working, John enjoys golfing, cycling and photography.

Serving as Corps Officers, Divisional & Territorial Youth Secretaries, and are currently serving at Divisional Headquarters in Western Pennsylvania. The Lloyds have four children, and their favorite pastime is to be on the sidelines cheering them on. Phil and Jodi are very excited to share in the bible study ministry at OOB this year – meet them at the beach!
Pier Ministry Festival
Events and performances
A free, family-friendly variety show produced by The Salvation Army. Come for four nights of fun giveaways, balloon animals, face painting, magic and dancing. Sing-along, dance along, grab a bite at a local vendor and enjoy the show!
What’s This All About?
The Salvation Army has been producing the Old Orchard Beach Pier Festival in various forms for almost 100 years, though it’s only been this large a scale for the past 10. They come every summer and set up a huge stage right in the parking lot at the end of the loop. Many of our friendly staff are volunteering their time to bring Light and Love to you! They are there to put on a great show with a simple message; You are Loved

Acts
The program matures with the night, though every minute is family-oriented. Starting at 7pm, grab your kids to dancealong to today’s hit music. Then, sing-along with a live band to all your favorite kids songs like Baby Shark and Wheels on The Bus. Don’t miss some special appearances (and photo ops!) with your favorite princesses and heroes. As the sun sets, you’ll be amazed by a magician and thrilled by a team of dancers. Our M.C. might just pull you up on stage for some interactive games and comedy. An original movement piece will be performed by a team who toured in Costa Rica this summer! The night will end with all your favorite 80’s rock-and-roll hits as a live band closes out the show.
