ADULT GUIDE Aquatic exercise is the only true total body workout. The natural resistive forces of the water effect movement in every direction. The harder one pushes the water, the harder it pushes back. The natural buoyant effects of the water can also offer support to help with balance and allow you to move with greater mobility. So, no matter the level of fitness, you will get the workout you are looking for.

PICKLEBALL TIPS We

are extremely happy to see so many new faces during pickleball play. Here are just a few tips to keep everyone safe:

Don’t rush for shots – an injury is not worth saving a

single point. Let the ball go and get the point next time.

Don’t run backwards during lobs – instead take a moment

|

Wear the right shoes – you don’t want anything too “grippy”

Pay attention to how you feel – know when you have played

enough and switch players. Most of the time we have plenty of participants waiting for a turn.

Choose a paddle that is the right weight for you – a paddle

Z O N E A DVA N TAG E

or too slippery when playing on a gym floor.

to fully twist your hips and let your feet point in the direction you are moving to avoid tripping incidents.

that is too heavy can strain your tendons. Check out the paddles by type tab on pickleballgalaxy.com to learn more about paddle weights and surface materials.

20

Communicate with your teammates – calling “mine” or “yours” can avoid collisions and injury.

Stay hydrated – there is a water fountain outside the gym and water bottle fillers located throughout the facility.

KIDS GUIDE

SAFE KIDS Winter Safety Tips Safe Kids Tulsa Area recommends the following four tips for winter safety: 1. Car Seats and Winter Coats: We know you want your little ones to be warm, but please don’t buckle your child into a car seat while wearing a bulky coat. The coat can compress in a crash and create a loose car seat harness, putting your child at greater risk of injury in the event of a crash. Instead, lay the jacket over your child like a blanket once they’re safely secured. 2. Sleep Safety: Extra blankets can seem so cozy in a baby’s crib, but soft bedding can block a baby’s airway during sleep. A firm mattress covered with a tight-fitting crib sheet is all you need for your baby to sleep well. If you’re worried about keeping your baby warm on those cold winter nights, try using a sleep sack (wearable blanket). They’re pretty cozy, too. 3. Carbon Monoxide Safety: Make sure your home has a carbon monoxide alarm on every level, especially near sleeping areas and keep them at least 15 feet away from fuel-burning appliances. If you’re warming up a vehicle, don’t forget to remove it from the garage immediately after starting it. It’s extremely dangerous to leave a car, SUV or motorcycle engine running inside a garage. 4. Fire Safety: Create and practice a home fire escape plan and know two ways out of your house in case of a fire. This can be a fun activity for the whole family. Also remember to keep space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn.
