KIDS ZONE HOURS PICKLEBALL TIPS We
are extremely happy to see so many new faces during pickleball play. Here are just a few tips to keep everyone safe:
•
Don’t rush for shots – an injury is not worth saving a
single point. Let the ball go and get the point next time.
•
•
Don’t run backwards during lobs – instead take a moment
|
•
•
Pay attention to how you feel – know when you have played enough and switch players, most the time we have plenty of participants waiting for a turn.
Choose a paddle that is the right weight for you – a paddle
Z O N E A DVA N TAG E
Wear the right shoes – you don’t want anything too “grippy” or too slippery when playing on a gym floor.
to fully twist your hips and let your feet point in the direction you are moving to avoid tripping incidents.
that is too heavy can strain your tendons. Check out the paddles by type tab on pickleballgalaxy.com to learn more about paddle weights and surface materials.

Communicate with your teammates – calling “mine” or “yours” can avoid collisions and injury.

Stay hydrated – there is a water fountain outside the gym and water bottle fillers located throughout the facility.

KIDS GUIDE
SAFE KIDS Carbon Monoxide Safety and Awareness A warm, cozy fire or warmth from a space heater can quickly spell danger during the cold winter months – the time when home fires and carbon monoxide (CO) related deaths are more likely to occur. With the winter months approaching, now is the perfect time to make sure your alarms are all working so you can sleep peacefully at night. There’s a reason carbon monoxide is called the ‘invisible killer,’ and we want to make sure parents understand the risks. Here are some simple tips and tools for families:
• Make
sure there’s a working CO alarm on every level of your house and near every bedroom. Test them every month to make sure they’re working correctly, and replace them according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
• If you
need to turn on your vehicle to warm it up, make sure to take it out of the garage right away. Even if the door is open, don’t leave it sitting in the garage while the engine is running.
• Check
the vents for the dryer, furnace, stove and fireplace outside your home to make sure they’re clear of any snow or other debris.
• If the
CO alarm sounds, leave the house immediately. Call 911 or the fire department after you are in a location with fresh air. Remain outside or by an open window until emergency personnel arrive.
To help prevent a fire, parents and caregivers need to closely inspect the home and eliminate all potential hazards and follow the following fire safety tips:
that smoke and CO alarms are working
and PRACTICE a fire escape plan

NOTES
FROM THE DIRECTOR Graydon H. Yohe
Director, Health Zone At Saint Francis
More improvements coming your way! Are you ready for some cooler weather? Along with the season change, I am happy to report changes for the upcoming year. Expanded weekend hours! The membership has spoken and we have listened. The number one request for the past few years has been expansion of weekend hours. I am happy to announce the following new weekend hours:
Saturday Sunday
7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Please check this guide to see how the new hours of operation may impact your favorite programming. Enjoy! Also coming at the end of the year, there will be a remodel of the functional training area of the exercise floor. Plans include replacement of the PurMotion with a next generation version and expansion/replacement of the rubber flooring. In addition, Health Zone will be replacing select pieces of cardio equipment as existing equipment becomes worn or new technology becomes available. Our goal is always to be state-of-the-art in facility, equipment, programming, and of course, staff. Proud to be your director,
Graydon
