Bereavement Ministry

The Parish Social Ministry office at St. Mary’s Manhasset will be offering two weekly support groups for the bereaved and those struggling with unresolved loss starting the week of January 23rd, 2023. Both sessions will run for ten consecutive weeks. The primary goals of the groups are to help the participants learn about the grief process, to develop skills to manage their grief, and to help them adjust to living in a world without the deceased. The groups are open to anyone who has lost a spouse, partner, parent, or sibling. You do not have to be a parishioner to participate in these sessions. One group will be offered on Wednesdays from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM and a second group will be offered on Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:00 AM.

Wednesday’s session will be facilitated by Tara Barenello and Bernadette Casalino. Saturday’s session will be facilitated by Marie Granieri, Dr. Robert Windorf, and Jordan Rini. All facilitators were trained by Dr. Lou Sabatini who is a bereavement counselor with over thirty years of experience. Tara also has an MS in counseling and an Advanced Certificate in Mental Health, Marie Granieri has a Masters in Sacred Theology, and Dr. Robert Windorf is a long time educator and has worked with the Passionists to facilitate retreats for young adults.

In an effort to meet the needs of all of those suffering with grief from loss, we are offering two different types of bereavement counseling. The Saturday session will be rich with Catholic faith-based tools, using Scripture and prayer to help in the healing process. Marie Granieri will draw from her in-depth knowledge of the suffering of Christ and the ability to find peace and grace through lamentation to help those in need. The Wednesday sessions will be more secular.

There is a one-time registration fee of $10.00 to cover the costs of the course. To register for a group, please send a check made out to St. Mary’s PSM and the requested information below to St. Mary’s PSM Office, 1300 Northern Blvd., Manhasset, NY 11030 by January 5th. For more information on the sessions, please call Kathleen Kosciusko at 917-8642802 (cell) or 516-365-2705 (office). You can also email her at kkosciusko@stmary.ws.

Rosary Society

Our Mission Statement:

The Rosary Society fosters devotion to Mary through prayer and good works for causes that would be dear to her heart

Invest 20 minutes of your day to pray the Rosary, and see the difference it will make in your life.

If you would like the Rosarians to pray for a special intention, please e-mail us at rosarysociety@stmary.ws.

January 1st - Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God, celebrates Mary’s faith and trust in God alone, and the Church wants us to imitate her faith.

O Mary, Mother of God, pray for us!

Theotokos —”God-bearer” is one of the earliest titles given by Christians to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We as Catholics celebrate Mary as the Mother of God, because, in bearing Christ, she bore the fullness of the Godhead within her. Our Lady never hesitated to do the will of God. So as a new year begins, we look to her for inspiration to do the same. We also trust in her intercessory prayers to God on our behalf. We look to another year to continue to become more like Our Lady in her faithfulness to God’s plan. She is Mother of God because of her faith in God.

Next Saturday, January 7th, First Saturday Devotion 9:00 AM Mass followed by Recitation of the Rosary

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

THE NEXT SVDP MEETING IS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 3RD at 7:00 PM in the Saint John Paul II Room. New members are always welcome! We invite you to explore the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Mary’s Church. There are no special qualifications to join, other than the desire to join with others in helping Neighbors in need. As a group, we meet monthly. Come decide for yourself if God is calling you to this special Ministry.

Today is the feast of Mary, Mother of God. Like Mary may we always treasure the events in our life and reflect on them in our heart. Please remember to support the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in 2023 so that together we can continue to bring comfort and peace to our brothers and sisters who are poor and suffering. May the peace and joy of the New Year be yours!

Our St. Vincent de Paul Conference is able to help our neighbors in need through the generosity of our St. Mary’s parishioners. Each time you donate, either through the collection slots at the doors of the church, or in an envelope marked for St. Vincent de Paul, you are helping our neighbors within St. Mary’s Parish. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance, contact the St. Vincent de Paul Society at 516-627-0385, ext. 1125, or email SVDP@stmary.ws. To donate furniture, clothing or household items, please call the store in Garden City Park at 516746-8250. Thank you for your continued support.

Are You Being Called to Serve as a Deacon?

By virtue of Baptism, we are called to holiness—the lay faithful as well as bishops, priests, and deacons. B But have you felt called to serve in a much deeper and committed way?

If you are a man between the ages of 30 and 59, who feels that you are being called to ordained ministry as a deacon in the Church, you are invited to come for an E Evening of Prayer and Discernment with other men of faith to discuss and explore that very question. There is no cost to the evening—just your time and openness.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

New Year’s Prayer

As the dawn breaks on a new year, let us give thanks for all we hold dear: our health, our family and our friends.

Let us release our grudges, our anger and our pains, for these are nothing but binding chains. Let us live each day in the most loving ways, the God-conscious way. Let us serve all who are in need, regardless of race, color or creed.

Let us keep God of our own understanding in our hearts and to chant God’s name each day. Let us lead the world from darkness to light, from falsehood to truth and from wrong to right.

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction Mondays

3:00 - 5:00 PM

Let us remember that we are all one, embracing all, discriminating against none.

May your year be filled with peace, prosperity and love. May God’s blessings shower upon you and bestow upon each of you a bright, healthy and peaceful new year.

A New Year Prayer

We Pray...

For healing...prepare us for surprises. For strength...prepare us for surprises. For vision...prepare us for surprises.

For transformation...prepare us for surprises.

For messengers and messages...prepare us for surprises. For community...prepare us for surprises. For acceptance - of ourselves and others...prepare us for surprises. For making room at our tables...prepare us for surprises. For Truth-seeking...prepare us for surprises. For support...prepare us for surprises.

For Common Ground...prepare us for surprises.

Walk beside us, O Holy One, as we question and welcome, as we challenge and invite, as we discover and understand, as we see, touch, taste, smell, and listen for the Newness awaiting us in 2023.

May we, Your Holy People, walk forward together side by side. Amen.

Knights of Columbus

What is a Knights of Columbus Family?

We are Catholic families building a bridge to our faith.

Our lives, time, efforts, and resources are dedicated to these values: Charity. Unity. Fraternity. Patriotism.

We come from different places, backgrounds, and all stages of life. But the common thread is our Catholic faith. We are Catholic families seeking to improve ourselves and the world.

It’s one thing to say who you are. It’s another thing is to live it. Put your values into practice.

Become a Knights of Columbus family.

Montforte Irpino: 11 January 1899 - Rome: 2 May 1934

O Most Holy Trinity, Who deigned to raise Venerable Anthony Vincent Gallo to the priesthood, and endowed him with precious gifts, especially that of a burning love for suffering and immolation, we humbly beseech You, if it be Your will, that he may be glorified on earth, and that we may obtain through his intercession the particular grace which we ask for with living faith. Amen.
