BLAST FROM THE PAST
DAVENTRY TOWN 0 ST NEOTS TOWN 3
A glance at Daventry Town’s recent home record that included victories over Newport Pagnell and S/L Corby suggested that this would be no easy match for the league leaders. The pitch resembled treacle in patches and that suggested that St Neots would need to vary their usual neat passing game and so it proved. Manager Dennis Greene selected his side with the conditions very much in mind replacing Junior Kanuda and Theo Davis with Kieran Davies and Jack Bradshaw and he also brought back Luke McShane in goal for his first league outing since his infamous sending off at Newport Pagnell at the beginning of October. The defining feature of this important victory were two excellently taken goals from Stefan Moore that took his tally for the season to eight in seven matches but these was also a first ever goal for St Neots from full back Jack Bradshaw. It was a suitable work out prior to next Saturday’s away trip to Gresley in the FA Vase.
Daventry made an inspired start to the match and could have been two or three goals ahead in the first ten minutes. After three minutes Darren Frost beat the offside trap and raced clear, but Micky Hyem got across to block his shot with the ball deflecting for a corner. From Will Briscoe’s inswinger Luke McShane could only flap at the cross and defender Duncan Harris headed wide with the goal at his mercy. Five minutes later another Briscoe delivery found the head of Jon Crockett and he outjumped his marker only to see the ball rebound from the cross bar. This early turn of events seemed to galvanise St Neots and they tried to get back in the match, but a series of rash challenges saw three of their back four booked before the first half reached the half-way stage. St Neots best early effort was from Kieran Davies whose rising shot was deflected for a corner by Ricky Hill. On the half hour two goals in as many minutes put St Neots firmly in control. Davies masterminded the opener as he went round the outside of his marker to cross from the bye line to find the head of Lewis Hilliard who nodded downwards for Stefan Moore to shoot low into the net from ten yards. Then as Daventry sought a quick reply, a clearance by Will Fordham found Shane Tolley wide left and he pulled the ball back to Jack Bradshaw who moved in field to unleash a fine shot that left the home keeper helpless. A lengthy shot by Ian Waldock was the best that Daventry could muster before the break but that failed to trouble McShane.
BLAST FROM THE PAST
Daventry came out after the break determined to take the game to their visitors and they shaded possession for around twenty minutes, but fine defensive midfield play by Lewis Webb and Lewis Hilliard restricted their openings. In fact just one off target shot by Crockett was best they had to offer whilst on the break Hilliard tested home keeper Lee Farrow.St Neots introduced Junior Kanuda for Davies for the last twenty minutes during which time they began to control the match again and with five minutes left they snuffed out Daventry hopes of any reward as Shane Tolley came back to the half-way line to collect the ball and played it between two defenders for Stefan Moore to collect and audaciously side-step the final defender before picking his spot wide of the home keeper.‘That was pure class’ was a remark from the home bench! Not the most impressive St Neots performance on a very difficult surface but more than enough to deserve all three points.
St Neots: McShane, Bradshaw, Hyem, Webb, Fuff, Fordham, Hilliard, Davies, Moore, Tolley, Jacob.
Subs: Kanuda (for Davies 46 mins), Scully, Gent, Davis & Trebes.

GOOD AFTERNOON AND A VERY WARMWELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO OUR VISITORS COVENTRY UNITED FOR THEIR FIRST VISIT
Our final home league game of the season features first time visitors Coventry United who finished eighth in the Premier Division South last season. This season they have been slightly less successful and are currently eleventh in the table. They play their home matches at The Butts Park Arena where they share with Coventry RFC. However, they are finishing their season at home with a flourish as they defeated promotion hopefuls Racing Club Warwick 5-1 on Easter Monday. That was Coventry’s fourth successive home victory and the third time in those four matches that they scored five goals. Our visit to Coventry in January was memorable because it afforded us our biggest league win of the season finishing 6-0 in our favour with Jordan Brown and Rhys Thorpe each bagging two goals and James Hatch and Ayo Akinbobola each getting a goal apiece. That was our biggest away victory since winning 8-1 away at Cogenhoe on 9th April 2011.
In the FA Cup Coventry made an early exit beaten in the extra-preliminary round 3-0 by Studley. However, they enjoyed an excellent FA Vase run scoring twelve goals in their first two outings in the competition. They defeated Cradley Town 7-1 in the first round qualifying before winning 5-0 away at Smethwick Rangers before losing 5-1 away at Hallam. In the Sports Development KO Cup, they had two excellent away victories at GNG Oadby and Deeping Rangers before losing heavily at Lincoln United.

Youth Team Match Report
Haverhill Borough (H) 08-01-2024
Thurlow Nunn Youth League West Division
ST NEOTS TOWN U183
HAVERHILL BOROUGH U18 1
St Neots returned to the top of the league table with this workmanlike if not impressive victory over visitors Haverhill Borough. They had to work hard for the points especially in the second half when the visitors staged a determined comeback after a rather pallid first half display. However, second placed Deeping Rangers with matches in hand are still firm title favourites.
There was a slow start with St Neots unable to capitalise on clear territorial superiority. It was 19 minutes before there was a serious shot on target and then visiting keeper Harry Humpage saved well from Caleb Wright. Just one minute later Frankie Webster spurned a glorious chance firing high over the bar but after 23 minutes St Neots went ahead as Caleb Wright scored his seventh goal of the campaign with a neat finish. The visitors’ first clear chance fell to Jeffrey Afriyie on the half hour, but he shot across the face of goal and then at the other end the lively Lucca Ugarte-Edwards fired over the bar. The first half ended with the best save of the match from Humpage to deny Wright a second goal after good work by Toby Pendrick.
The visitors started the second half in a more positive way and home keeper Alex Bent saved well from Kyle Markwell. However, after 54 minutes the lead was increased when Lucca Ugarte-Edwards burst into the area to be upended and from the resultant penalty award he added to St Neots lead. Undeterred the visitors persevered and nine minutes later won a penalty of their own when Danny Lively was fouled and it was he who netted from the spot. The same visiting player then went clear on goal but shot wide with only the keeper to beat. Visiting substitute Lennie Brindley squandered a great chance top level the scores and his side paid the penalty when defender Joel Jolly confirmed St Neots victory two minutes from time with a goal from a corner.

UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH
ST NEOTS TOWN 1
AYLESTONE PARK 2
St Neots are making very hard work of their desired objective of a place in the promotion play-offs at the end of the season. Meantime visitors
Aylestone Park in their first season at this level took another step towards achieving a home play-off match in their quest for back-to-back promotions. With Newport Pagnell salvaging a point at promotion hunting Racing Club Warwick, Cameron Mawar’s side still needed two points from their remaining three matches to ensure their play-off place in their first season back at level five. They started well in this match but conceded two goals in a quarter of an hour spell early in the second half and could only muster one in reply. Again, team changes seemed to upset the balance of the side with Chris Tavernier, Nabil Shariff, Charlie Bowen and Magloire Muyembe all restored to the side with Nathan George, Connor Furlong, and Dean Dummett rested alongside Michael Amaeshike on the substitutes’ bench.
The first half hour of the match saw St Neots take the game to their visitors.Rhys Thorpe had an early net-bound effort blocked and Nabil Shariff saw a header sail harmlessly over the crossbar.Following a corner Magloire Muyembe fired across the face of goal and Jordan Brown was also off target.Gradually the visitors forced their way into the match with Matt Langham contriving to head over the bar from about three yards and several other promising openings cut short by the offside flag. Lee Barrett fired wide when well-placed, and Louis Samuels cruised past two defenders but shot wide. On the stroke of half time Brown was upended in the penalty area but St Neots penalty appeals fell on deaf ears. The visitors moved up a gear after the break and were rewarded within two minutes of the restart when following a shot blocked by a defender, Matt Langham got a lucky rebound to force the ball home from close range to open the scoring. St Neots responded with defender Charlie Bowen firing over the bar following a corner, and from a second Rob Parker corner, Chris Tavernier forced visiting keeper Nykah Liburd-Hynes into the save of the match at full stretch as he turned the ball over the bar.

AYLESTONE PARK (H) 30-03-2024
Then after 62 minutes a cross from the right saw visiting substitute Billy Key nip in from of James Goff at his near post to claim the visitors’ second goal. Again, St Neots rallied and with substitutes Israel Ajana and Dean Dummett on they saw their attacking play afford them the better share of possession. However, they wasted their most promising openings with James Hatch heading wide from a Parker corner, and Tavernier shooting wide from a second. With nine minutes left Jordan Brown gave them some hope when he converted a Thorpe knock-down to reduce the arrears but that was as good as it got although James Snedden had to clear off the visitors’ goal-line in injury time to preserve their victory.

EYNESBURY ROVERS (H) 01-04-2024
UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH
ST NEOTS TOWN 3
EYNESBURY ROVERS 0
St Neots Town celebrated winning their slot in the end-of-season play-offs with a comprehensive demolition of neighbours Eynesbury Rovers to leave their visitors still under relegation threat. All three goals came in a golden twelve minute spell just past the hour to dispel the memory of the month of March where they had scored just three goals in four home league fixtures. To their credit, Eynesbury competed well in the first hour looking quite dangerous on the break whilst St Neots had their followers on the edge of their seats as they failed to convert their superior possession into goals. Once again Saints Manager Cameron Mawer rang the changes to utilise the full extent of his squad making no fewer than five team changes to accommodate the return to the side of Dammy Nickels, Nathan George, Michael Amaeshike, Dean Dummett and Connor Furlong in addition to utilising four of his five named substitutes. In the relegation dogfight Eynesbury mathematically still need six points from their three final matches to ensure Premier Division survival.
In front of a record shirt sleeved crowd of 779 the home side began convincingly dominating possession and taking the game to their visitors. Eynesbury looked happy to defend in numbers and attack on the break as Connor Furlong fired over the bar and Jordan Brown was denied when visiting keeper Lewis Reece dived at his feet to smother. At the other end the speedy Fraelias Mienambolo chipped wide of the far post after going clear and Marcel Rzeszutec shot wide. As half time approached St Neots tightened their grip on the game as Michael Amaeshike had an effort blocked by Daniel Hammer and from a Brown cross Charlie Bowen headed over the bar. Twelve minutes before half time Dean Dummett then set up Brown but the visiting keeper saved well, and the same pair were involved in a similar opening with Brown’s effort deflected for a corner.
The visitors will have been pleased still to be on level terms at the start of the second half, but they were quickly on the defensive again as St Neots resumed their attacking ways with the impressive Michael Amaeshike shooting narrowly wide and Connor Furlong testing the visiting keeper.
John Walker's Match Report
EYNESBURY ROVERS (H) 01-04-2024
After 56 minutes St Neots introduced striker Nabil Shariff and within five minutes, he had registered his first St Neots goal neatly rounding the final Eynesbury defender to shoot across the keeper to break the deadlock. That seemed to settle the home side and six minutes later the score was doubled when Brown set up Connor Furlong also for his first goal in a St Neots shirt. The visiting defence was now looking ragged despite making several changes and after 72 minutes home defender Charlie Bowen put the outcome beyond doubt when at the far post, he converted a Dammy Nickels free kick to give the home side an unassailable lead. There was still time for several substitutes from both sides to be given a slice of the action and with the visitors determined to look for some reward the final twenty minutes saw much end-to-end action with neither goalkeeper being seriously tested. Jordan Brown headed wide after good play by Israel Ajana and Magloire Muyembe, and one-time Eynesbury striker Rhys Thorpe made a brief appearance against his former side before being sin-binned after just two minutes on the pitch! Eventually St Neots were able to celebrate with their fans as they look forward to their end of season play-off opportunity of a return to Step Four football.

A greatly weakened visiting St Neots side with five further senior players missing from the Bank Holiday victory over Eynesbury Rovers saw St Neots struggling to name a full squad for this final away league match that featured Manager Cameron Mawer named as one of the substitutes.
Playing conditions were awful with the brisk end-to-end wind testing the players control and tactics to the limit but in the end a goal in each half was sufficient to see the visitors pick up all three points and climb above March Town into fourth place in the table. Five players came back into the starting line-up with Tommy Reynolds, back for the first time since mid-February, and Ollie Brookes in defence, Magloire Muyembe in midfield, and Rhys Thorpe and Nabil Shariff in attack. Goalkeeper James Goff took over the captains’ armband in the absence of James Hatch and Muyembe won the man of the match award for a storming midfield display.
Winning the toss, St Neots elected to play with the wind behind them and their positive brisk start suggested that was the right decision. In the first minute home keeper Adan Honour was under constant pressure parrying a Connor Furlong shot at full stretch before blocking a Rhys Thorpe effort but after five minutes he was retrieving the ball from the back of the net after Jordan Brown slammed home the opening goal from the penalty spot following a foul on Thorpe spotted by an eagle-eyed Assistant Referee! A slick move between Furlong and Brown set up Dean Dummett whose shot was deflected and then Thorpe shot wide. The first notable effort by the home side saw Aaron Healey test James Goff whilst St Neots were guilty of some careless attacking play that saw openings go begging. Ten minutes before the break the score should have doubled but Thorpe shot wastefully over the bar from close range and then on the stroke of half time the home side almost poached an equaliser when Kai McGee went clear of the visiting defence and with James Goff stranded the home striker saw his effort rebound off a defender for a corner.

DESBOROUGH TOWN (A) 06-04-2024
The visitors found playing against the wind after the break a trying experience. Desborough relished their improved possession but could not find a finish with Harry Moore squandering their best opening. On the break, Thorpe headed over the bar from a Dammy Nickels free kick and Brown brought the save of the match from Honour. The clinching goal, worthy of any match winner, came from an inspired run through the home defence by Magloire Muyembe, who fed Brown on the right and Connor Furlong arrived at the far post to claim only his second St Neots goal after 73 minutes. From then on St Neots played ay their own pace to frustrate Desborough’s best efforts and collect the three points to move up to fourth in the league table.

COVENTRY UNITED
Coventry United Football Club was formed in 2013 by 4 local businessmen, following the takeover of Coventry Spartans. The dream? To play football without politics and live for the enjoyment of the game. Spartan’s manager, Edwin Greaves stayed on as Coventry United’s first manager, along with club secretary, Graham Wood. The Red and Green had story began. Our debut league match took place on Saturday 13th August 2013 with a 2-1 victory at Kenilworth Town in the Midland Football League Division 3. Kenroy Dennisur and Brian Ndlovu scored the goals that day. The desire for success was evident from the very first whistle, and success was not far away. United finished runners-up to Kenilworth, securing promotion at the very first attempt.
Our first league title followed the next season. United dominated MFL Division 2, finishing a mammoth 15 points ahead of our closest rivals. Progression to Step 6 of the NonLeague Pyramid followed. Season 3 would bring a fierce battle for the Division 1 title with the likes of Bromsgrove Sporting, Lichfield and Nuneaton Griff. In March 2016, Edwin Greaves left the club and was replaced by Terry Anderson, along with assistants, Luke Morton and Craig Jones. Under Terry’s stewardship United began a sensational run to win their final 11 matches, conceding just 3 goals along the way. Consequently, they beat their impressive competition to the title.
Following this flurry of promotions, Coventry settled into the MFL Premier Division continuing to grow on and off the pitch. Following stints at The Cage (Alan Higgs Centre) and Sphinx Drive, the summer of 2017 saw United move into their new home, the Butts Park Arena. In 2020, the club was bought from the original owners by a Coventry based businessman, Joe Haggarty. Terry Anderson and Luke Morton subsequently left the club.
After 5 seasons in the MFL Premier Division and finishing as Coventry’s highest ranked non-league club for 5 years in a row, the restructuring of the non-league pyramid saw Coventry United placed in the United Counties League Premier Division South.
In 2022, following the departure of Joe Haggarty, it took the intervention of supporter Nigel Ward to ensure the club survived. Subsequently, local businessman, John Goodman also invested in the club, and he brought Michael Kavanagh on board. Michael then became the Chairman and John Vice Chairman. Carl Nolan, Gary Hardwick and Craig Jones took over as the management and coaching team preseason. United finished 8th in their first season in the UCL.
In the summer of 2023 United entered an U18 team in the MJPL and an U21 team in the MFL, establishing a player pathway for the club.
In the winter of 2023 Carl Nolan was replaced by Ellis Alleyne as manager.
In early 2024, John Goodman took over as Chairman and Lee Davies became Vice Chairman. In March two new investers joined the board, Ray Nowack and Hamad Al Salem.
