BLAST FROM THE PAST
FA
ST NEOTS TOWN 5 PETERBOROUGH NORTHERN STAR
St Neots made light work of beating their Step Five visitors recording their biggest FA Cup win for four seasons with the most comfortable of victories. Manager Iain Parr had to make one team change with loan player Jay Davies being cup tied by his parent club so Callum Stewart slotted into midfield for his third start of the season and looked very assured having a hand in two of the goals either side of half time. Peterborough Northern Star are a mid table UCL Premier Division side and were unbeaten in their two previous meetings with St Neots with both league matches in the 2010/11 season having ended in 1-1 draws. St Neots got stronger as the game wore on despite the introduction of three substitutes and by the end were coasting comfortably into the next round.
Dan Jacob got them on their way with his fourth goal in as many games after 11 minutes picking up an incisive through pass from Ben Mackey but a tackle by Jack Bloodworth then floored Jacob earning the Peterborough the first booking of the match.Meantime visiting keeper Daniel George was the busiest man on the pitch saving full length from Callum Stewart before pushing another Jacob effort around a post. The nearest the visitors get to a first half goal came from a misjudged clearance by Michael Duggan that presented a half chance to Liam Hook but with the goal at his mercy he shot wide. Jacob then limped off with a recurrent ankle injury to be replaced by Ed Adjei and the St Neots central defenders both went close to increasing the lead but Jordan Gent headed wide and Arthur Lee linked up with Stefan Moore to shoot into the side netting. Lewis Stone sent a free header from a corner over the bar and Nick Davey headed wide but little threat was coming from the visiting forwards. Then on the stroke of half time substitute Ed Adjei added the second after great work by Callum Stewart to give Star a mountain to climb and for the visitors this was a killing setback.
BLAST FROM THE PAST
However worse was to follow for them for after just four minutes of the second half a fine move split the visiting defence as Ollie Thorne found Callum Stewart wide on the left and from the bye line his cross found Ben Mackey unmarked and he extended the lead. The visitors sent on two substitutes but made little impression on a St Neots defence superbly marshalled by Arthur Lee. On the hour Stefan Moore was held back by Wayne Morris and a penalty awarded with the visiting player lucky only to be given a yellow card. Ben Mackey confidently tucked away the spot kick to register his seventh goal of the current campaign in the same number of matches. Understandably the pace dropped in the afternoon heat although Lewis Hilliard twice shot wide for St Neots and Daniel George produced a fine save to deny substitute Jack Werndly his first goal for St Neots. As the visitors perceptibly tired they did produce the first significant shot on target from substitute Dan Clemence some nine minutes from time but the best for the home fans was left until last when after 84 minutes from an impossibly tight angle Stefan Moore conjured up a fine individual goal to complete the victory.

GOOD AFTERNOON AND A VERY WARM WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO FIRST TIME VISITORS BARKING IN THE FA CUP
Like our lads, todays’ visitors have successfully negotiated two rounds in this season’s FA Cup and today as the more senior teams enter the draw, we have both been given the opportunity to progress further. Barking are members of the Essex Senior League and have made a good start to the season and are currently in the leading group having won one, drawn one and lost one of their three opening league matches. In the FA Cup they began with an away draw at Tring before winning the home replay and followed this up with another away trip to higher graded Redbridge who they beat by a goal to nil. Like us they began their FA Vase programme last weekend at home to Step Six FC Baresi and ran out very comfortable winners by four goals to nil. Their reward will be another home tie when they entertain their fellow Essex Senior Football League colleagues Takeley who have started their league programme well with two wins and a draw from their first three matches.
Last season Barking finished fourth in the league table but boasted the best away record losing only twice on their trips around the league. This will be their first visit to St Neots.
Just a quick word about a busy period for our lads starting on Tuesday with a visit from Histon in the league. Then next Saturday we are off to Nottinghamshire and a League Cup outing at Newark Town who are members of the Premier Division North and have won two and drawn one of their five completed league matches so far.
Previous meetings of our teams: none
Enjoy the match.

iSUZU FA VASE FIRST ROUND QUALIFYING
ST NEOTS TOWN 5
SHERINGHAM 0
St Neots sailed almost effortlessly into the next round of the FA Vase thanks to a hat trick by recent signing Kieran Barnes that took his personal tally to seven goals in just six appearances. Not that this was a one man show because in an outstanding team performance St Neots recorded their best FA Vase result since thrashing Felixstowe and Walton 11-0 fourteen seasons ago.Their reward in four weeks’ time is another home tie when Thurlow Nunn side Downham Town will be the visitors to the Premier Plus Stadium in the second qualifying round of the competition. Barnes became the first St Neots player to score an FA competition hat trick since that Felixstowe victory that had featured hat tricks by both Stefan Moore and Shane Tolley. Three goals in a quarter of an hour early in the second half set up this victory over a visiting side that had little to offer in attack but never gave up competing. St Neots restored Murphy Culkin, Sam Willis and Dan Walker to the starting line-up with Nathan George, Harvey Williams and Lil Francisco all rested on the substitutes bench.
St Neots began well enough and were ahead after just six minutes when the lively Connor Furlong left his marker in his slipstream as he crossed from the bye line for Kieran Barnes to open St Neots’ account. St Neots then laid siege to the visiting goal, but Barnes shot over when well placed, Furlong brought a full length save from visiting keeper Oliver Denham and Barnes had another effort block on the goal line. Denham was the busiest player on the field saving twice from Rhys Thorpe and he then had to dive fearlessly at the feet of Barnes to block as the St Neots forward went clear of the defence. Sheringham’s only response was a header from defender Shane Cox from an Alfie Bell corner and then Charlie Bowen joined the home attack to head narrowly over the bar. The half ended in unfortunate fashion for the visitors when goalkeeper Denham and defender Shane Cox attempting to clear a corner collided. Neither were able to continue so the visiting side had to reshape their team with two substitutes replacing them after the break.

UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH
YAXLEY 2 ST NEOTS TOWN 4
St Neots moved up to fifth in the league table with matches in hand of all those above them with another convincing performance marred only by the late concession of two goals to their hosts in the final ten minutes. However, by then with four goals safely taken the visitors were effectively ‘out of sight’ although the margin of victory was not clearly reflected in the final scoreline. Yaxley had threatened little in the first hour during which time the visitors had established that commanding lead but the home side took full advantage of some slipshod defending after the outcome of the game had effectively been decided. Manager Cameron Mawer will no doubt have had strong words with his defenders in the dressing room afterwards, but the side now head on to their important FA Cup date at home to Barking. The Manager had made two changes to the starting line-up resting Rob Parker and Dammy Nickels bringing in Nathan George and Lil Francisco – the latter against his former Club.
The first half hour saw one-way traffic towards the home goal and during this spell St Neots would have established a much more convincing lead but for the heroics of home goalkeeper Max Rigby. Time and again he defied net bound efforts from the visitors with two notable efforts by Rhys Thorpe and Dan Walker heartbreaking for the visitors. Kieran Barnes saw another netbound effort blocked by a defender and Michael Amaeshike saw his effort pass the wrong side of a post. However, after 16 minutes the resistance was broken when Walker crossed to the far post for a simple finish by Rhys Thorpe. Connor Furlong again spearheaded St Neots best attacking moves but saw his defence piercing crosses go begging. Thorpe squandered another good opening and the only positive response from the home side came just before the break when Connor Pilbeam was played clear, but his narrow-angled effort only found the side netting.

As in recent matches St Neots made good their promise after the break. After the home keeper had saved bravely at the feet of Lil Francisco, St Neots extended their narrow lead when Thorpe freed Connor Furlong and he cut in past two defenders to beat the keeper at his near post. Within two minutes the lead was further extended when from a Walker corner Michael Amaeshike powered in a header through a packed defence for 3-0 and substitute Harvey Williams joined the fun twelve minutes later with his first goal of the season after another Furlong assist, St Neots were cruising but then got careless as the home side went looking for some revenge. Ten minutes from time Julinho Gomes cut through the St Neots defence to pull a goal back and a minute from time substitute Enoch Opayinca added a second Yaxley goal.In time added Harvey Williams went past two defenders to bring yet another good save from home keeper Rigby.

Opponent Spotlight BARKING FC
The origins of the modern club are unclear, with several potential claims; Barking Institute was either formed around 1896 as Barking Working Lads' Institute (or possibly earlier as Barking Working Men's Institute) or was a renamed Barking Rovers, who had been established in 1880 and later renamed by the Church Institute when they took over running it. They won the Essex Senior Cup in 1893–94 and 1895–96, before becoming champions of Division One of the South Essex League in 1898–99, the Leyton & District League in 1899–1900, Division Two of the South Essex League in 1900–02 and Division Two A in 1901–01, before changing its name to Barking in 1902. They also played in the London League, winning Division One A in 1909–10, before winning the South Essex League again in 1911–12, a season in which they also won the London Senior Cup for the first time. In 1912 Barking became founder members of the Athenian League, but withdrew after only two matches and their record was expunged.
In 1919 the club changed its name to Barking Town, going on to win the Essex Senior Cup in the 1919–20 season. The following season they won the Premier Division of the London League and the London Senior Cup, before rejoining the Athenian League in 1923.[4] The 1926–27 season saw them reach the first round of the FA Cup, eventually losing to Gillingham in a replay. They also reached the final of the FA Amateur Cup, where they lost 3–1 to Leyton, but did win the London Senior Cup for a third time. They reached the first round of the FA Cup again in 1928–29, but lost 6–0 at Exeter City. In 1932 they reverted to the name Barking, and in 1934–35 won the Athenian League title.
Following World War II, Barking won the 1945–46 Essex Senior Cup. In 1952 they switched to the Isthmian League, but had to wait until 1978–79 before winning the league again; during that period they won further Essex Senior Cup titles in 1962–63 and 1969–70. The 1978–79 season also saw them reach the second round of the FA Cup, defeating Yeovil Town in the first round, before losing 2–1 at home to Aldershot, as well as winning the London Senior Cup for a fourth time. The following season they reached the second round again, defeating Third Division Oxford United before losing 3–1 to Reading. In 1981–82 they took Gillingham to a replay in the second round, losing 3–1. Their last appearance in the second round came in 1983–84, when they lost 2–1 at Plymouth Argyle. A seventh Essex Senior Cup final win was achieved in 1989–90.
Opponent Spotlight
BARKING FC
They remained in the Isthmian League Premier Division until relegation to Division One at the end of the 1990–91 season. After finishing bottom in 1995–96 the club was relegated to Division Two. In 2001 Barking ceased to exist when they merged with East Ham United to form Barking & East Ham United. However, when the new club folded in 2006, Barking were re-established and joined the Essex Senior League. In 2016–17 the club won the Essex Senior League, earning promotion to the North Division of the Isthmian League. At the end of the 2018–19 season they were transferred to the South Central Division. In 2021 the club was transferred back to the North Division. They finished second-from-bottom of the division in 2021–22 and were relegated to the Essex Senior League. In 2022–23 the club won the Essex Senior League's Errington Cup, beating Redbridge 5–4 on penalties in the final, following a 1–1 draw.
The 2023–24 season saw Barking finish fourth in the Essex Senior League, qualifying for the promotion play-offs. They went on to lose 1–0 to Romford in the semi-finals.
