Greenie’s Greetings With Director Mike Green "Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the Premier Plus Stadium for today‘s United Counties League Premier Division South match. Today we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Godmanchester Rovers Football Club and we hope you enjoy our hospitality this afternoon“. Well, where have the past four months gone? I really can’t believe that it’s almost Christmas already. What’s that saying?.... Time Flies When You’re Having Fun and in my personal case, that‘s definitely very true. Lot‘s of highs and a few lows but it‘s been a very enjoyable first half to the season. A period of competitive inactivity since our 2-2 draw up at Yaxley in late November but luckily the lads have been able to keep sharp with the luxury of being able to play friendlies and of course train on our 3G pitch. It has, jokingly, been mentioned that since Kuhnie’s return to the fold, we‘ve not played a bloody game and also more positively, he is still unbeaten. All good fun and I’m sure everyone can’t wait to see him back in the dugout this afternoon with Cam. Another couple of new faces to join the ranks are Murphy Culkin and Christian Tavernier joining us from Biggleswade Town, so please make the lads feel at home.
Right, back to today. Crank up the noise levels and lets make that Twelfth Man count as we look to achive the double over the boys from Goddy And lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to personally wish you all a very Merry Christmas as I will be absent from next weekend’s game at Easington but look forward to seeing you all at Eynesbury Rovers on Boxing Day for the Midday Kickoff

Boardroom Gossip From The Dugout With Chairman BarryCameron Cavilla With Manager Mawer “I’d like to welcome everyone associated to Godmanchester Rovers to the Premier Plus Stadium. Godmanchester are a side looking to have a strong second half of the season, they boast a 3-0 away victory against high flying Yaxley in their last five fixtures, so although there league position isn’t as high as I am sure they would like, on their day they can compete with anyone in this league and today will be a tough game“. I am sure like me everyone is looking forward to match day and the game finally being on after the last few weeks of postponements, a lot has been going on behind the scenes with the players continuing to train hard and we are fortunate enough to have the 4G pitch, so we have managed to get 2/3 friendlies in and some much needed minutes into the players and it’s all been really positive. We also welcomed two new faces to the club midfielder Christian Tavernier and defender Murphy Culkin both join us from step 4 side Biggleswade Town, Murphy is another local lad from St Neots, that takes us to 4 players from St Neots and it’s so nice to have that feeling of local players representing their local club and I can tell they know even more what it means to play for this amazing football club. Christian comes with a wealth of experience of higher levels having spent a long period of his career at step 4 side AFC Dunstable. We are at a really important part of the season and we understand the next round of league fixtures are vital as we look to pick up as many points as we can to make sure we are in and around the promotion places come the business end of the season. We are trying to build a culture at the club a togetherness from top to bottom and with this we believe it will give us the foundation to build on over the next few years. The players we bring in, the way to go about playing and the way we are in and around the club is so important to creating a culture of winning and a culture of discipline. Our last home league game against G.N.G Oadby, which feels like a long time ago wasn’t the result we wanted especially after leading 2-0 but my take away was the supporters, the moment goals go in for us the roar and the noise is something I haven’t experienced at step 4 or step 3 let alone step 5 and it’s credit to everyone around the ground with how you get behind the team and your support is huge, so from me a massive thank you to all the support you give myself and the boys. Lastly I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and hope everyone enjoys the festive period and I Look forward to seeing you all and having a chat before and after the game.

Enjoy the game.

Boardroom Gossip Boardroom Gossip With Chairman Barry Cavilla With Chairman Barry Cavilla “ Good afternoon and welcome to our annual festive Christmas Jumper Day match our last home game before Santa calls on those who have been good this year. I like to offer a warm welcome to our near neighbours Godmanchester Rovers, our visitors today for this important local derby in UCL Premier Division South . Both teams have had a few weeks break with the abd weather and will be looking to kick start again and get some football under their belts and hopefully pick up some much needed points to get their seasons moving onwards and upwards. Cameron has been active during this period making several additional signings to help strengthen the squad for the tough challenges ahead and the lads will be looking to gain some ground on the teams above and looking to bounce back to winning ways and some valuable points to help maintain a strong challenge on the top sides going into a exciting and Busy Christmas period for the Saints ( weather permitting). Please join me in wishing all our new staff and players a successful time with the Saints. Finally ,I would like to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and Say a Big Thank you from the club for being so supportive to Cameron and the team and I am sure it will go along way to making the club successful in the future and I look forward to seeing you over the coming games to share a beer or two and a chat.

FA VASE FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND Godmanchester Rovers 1 St Neots Town 2 Although they had started the game as favourites St Neots made hard work of inflicting this defeat on their hosts. They trailed by a goal to nil for over an hour but won far more comfortably than the final scoreline suggests. In the end the St Neots ‘scoring twins’ Steve Kuhne and Gary Walker each claimed a goal from the host of chances their side created, and they have now scored fourteen of the side’s nineteen goals this season. However, it must be said that Godmanchester goalkeeper Gavin Armitage did not deserve to finish on the losing side for his heroics kept his side in the game right up to the final whistle. St Neots now play host to Isthmian League opponents Witham Town in the next round on Saturday week. In the first five minutes St Neots were almost embarrassed by their level of possession but they created nothing of note. Then in Godmanchester’s first foray into the other half after five minutes Jon Hoggett conceded a free kick some thirty yards from goal and there was a stunned silence when Steve Nicholls floated an innocuous looking free kick through the arms of Stefan Shamlian to put the home side in front. This setback did not change the pattern of the game for St Neots continued to dominate as Armitage did well to gather a clever flick by Walker and Mark Peacock headed off the line and Gary Watts shot just inches wide. Before the half hour Armitage had again rescued his side as he got down to block a low shot by Walker before climbing to his feet to punch clear off the head of Kuhne. Godmanchester’s front pair was far too isolated up front but just before the break the hardworking Steve Thompson carved himself out an opening but Shamlian was not going to let a second soft goal in and he saved well. Right on half time two more Armitage saves in the same attack to deny Steve Kuhne on both occasions sent St Neots to the break beginning to look frustrated and anxious.
BLAST FROM THE PAST Saturday 17th September 2005
The second half started where the first had left off. Kuhne headed wide, Gary Watts had a header saved and Kuhne brought a brave save from Armitage as he dived in amongst flailing boots to retrieve the ball. A Walker header then rebounded from the woodwork – the first time that the home keeper had been genuinely beaten. A second Godmanchester goal in one of their rare breaks would have further embarrassed St Neots but their best chance was lost when Shamlian made a good near post stop from a clever free kick by Nicholls. St Neots stuck to their task and the break back came after 68 minutes when a deep cross from Peter Gatti found Gary Walker and when his shot was blocked Steve Kuhne pounced to net the loose ball and level the scores. Nine minutes later a second Gatti cross again found Walker and this time he headed it well beyond the keeper’s reach. Disappointingly, Godmanchester found themselves unable to respond when behind and they failed to create a single chance in the last quarter of an hour. Kuhne was twice denied further goals by the keeper and by Stuart Wood who cleared off the line. “If we go on creating chances like we did today we will continue to win matches“ said a rather relieved St Neots Club Chairman Bob Page.
St Neots Town: Shamlian, Gatti, Brown (Lawes 57 mins), Watts, Hurst, Hoggett, Dellar (Clark 90 mins), Reynolds, Kuhne, Walker, Endersby. Subs not used: Buckland & Fox Goals: Kuhne (68 mins) Walker (77 mins).

John Walker's Match Preview GODMANCHESTER ROVERS FC
Year founded: 1911 Chairman: Karly Hurst Club Website: www.godmanchesterrovers.co.uk GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO OUR NEIGHBOURS GODMANCHESTER ROVERS FOR OUR RETURN LEAGUE MATCH Although this is Godmanchester’s first ever visit here for a league fixture there have been lots of cup meetings of our two clubs (details below). This has so far proved to be a difficult season for both of our clubs. Because of their well-documented pitch problems our visitors have only played seven of their eighteen completed matches at home, winning just two of those matches, whilst away from home victories at Oadby, Daventry and Desborough have been recorded. They also beat Yaxley away from home in the Hunts Senior Cup to progress to the semi-finals. We have dropped from the top of the table to seventh and last Saturday was the third time in the last six weeks that our scheduled league match was postponed by the weather (two waterlogged pitch, one frozen pitch) so hopefully today we shall be back witnessing some real action. Our visitors have suffered a similar fate with the weather also contributing to the loss of three of their last six scheduled league matches. So today our lads are looking for their first league victory since 14th October (away at GNG Oadby) whilst our visitors last won seven days later – 4-0 away at Desborough. Godmanchester arrive here in sixteenth place in the table, with three victories away from home, the other two coming at Daventry and GNG Oadby. Previous meeting of our teams: United Counties League:

Cup Matches: Since our reformation in 1994 our clubs have met eleven times in cup competition – ten times in the Hunts Senior Cup, and once in the FA Vase. Our first home tie with Goddy was on our former ground and was a replay which the visitors won 3-2 after a 2-2 draw in the first meeting. Their next four visits all ended in defeat for our visitors (one in a penalty shoot-out). However, the last two matches with Godmanchester here have resulted in two very convincing victories for our visitors. In the 2018/19 season a Hunts Senior Cup Final finished 6-0 in their favour, and then two years ago in a Senior Cup semi-final, goals from Lawrence Hammond and Kia Harness sealed our fate. Enjoy the match. John Walker

Seasons Past - With John Walker This Edition Focuses on Season 1995/96
This is another in the second series of historical records, highlighting this time our second season at our Rowley Park stadium depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. This was our second season back in the UCL Premier Division with the Gary Pilsworth/Phil Cavener taking over as joint Managers. Attacking football was the main feature of the season and our tally of 81 goals in 38 league matches was three more than champions Stamford. The reason for this was the return to the club of Steve Kuhne and the addition to the striking role of Gary Walker. These two slogged out the leading scorer role throughout the season and eventually Steve’s double in our 3-2 final home defeat by Stotfold was not enough to tip the balance. The Reserves were also the top scorers in UCL Reserve Division Two with 106 goals in 34 matches thanks mainly to the personal contribution of Steve McKnight who scored a further 32 goals making his tally 67 in two seasons – almost certainly a club record. Our three home defeats were to Stamford, Spalding and Stotfold, and they finished 1-2-3 in the final league table. 51 goals scored at home in just 19 matches was our best haul since the 1968/69 season – also in the UCL top Division (then Division One) A good run in the League KO Cup saw us reach the semi-final where we lost a replay at home to Northampton Spencer after an away 1-1 drawn match. Despite their high scoring exploits our Reserve side finished third in the UCL Reserve Division Two for the second successive season. Our leading scorers were as follows: ·Gary Walker 31 ·Steve Kuhne 29 ·Darek Joswiak 7 ·Richard Fisher 5 The Joint Managers were Gary Pilsworth and Phil Cavener John Walker

Youth Team Match Report Cambridge City (H) 11-12-2023 Hunts FA U18 County Cup Quarter Final ST NEOTS TOWN U18 3 EYNESBURY ROVERS U18 (Eynesbury won 7-6 on penalties)
3
Eynesbury U18’s took local bragging rights with this thrilling penalty shoot-out in the quarter final of the Huntingdonshire County Youth Cup. It was the fifth meeting of the two sides in the competition in the past twelve seasons, and the second successive time that the tie has gone to a penalty shoot-out.Last time St Neots won 7-6 at Eynesbury – this time at the Premier Plus Stadium the result was mirrored the other way around! It was a match with the visitors bossing the opening 40 minutes to lead 2-0. St Neots came back to equalise but then required an injury time third goal to send the tie into that shoot-out. The visitors took control from the start with several St Neots attacks breaking down without an end- product. After nine minutes a low volley by Lewis King following an uncleared corner gave the visitors the lead, whilst St Neots’ only positive response was a shot from Gabriel Tonks parried by the visiting keeper. Then after 20 minutes the lead was doubled as Rhys Hicks netted following another corner. Two minutes before the break St Neots dragged themselves back into the match when Caleb Wright took on the final defender to net. St Neots came out after the break in a more positive frame of mind and after 54 minutes they were level when a cross from Harley Camfield was deflected into the net by the visiting goalkeeper. The visitors responded and on the hour a Kane McEwan shot took a deflection to give the visitors the lead again. With substitutes on the final half hour was very competitive but defences held out until two minutes into added time when Lucca Ugarte-Edwards powered his way through the visiting defence to send the tie into a penalty shoot-out. The first thirteen penalties were confidently tucked away but then Nigel Coleman’s effort rebounded off the crossbar and the visitors celebrated their passage through to their home semi-final. St Neots Town: Bent, Olive, Ugarte-Edwards, Jolley (J), Baker (A), Khoo, Tonks, Webster, Wright, Brewster, Smith Subs: Hughes-Graham, Baker (L), Camfield, Coleman, Barbi. John Walker's Match Report GNG OADBY TOWN (H) 18-11-2023
ST NEOTS TOWN
2
GNG OADBY
2
Leading 2-0 approaching half time St Neots looked well set to bounce back from two consecutive away league defeats but a late first half goal and a strong second half saw their Leicestershire visitors deservedly earn a share of the points. Ironically both sides will view this result as two points dropped because Oadby had won all four league matches since they had beaten by St Neots in the first meeting of the two sides a month ago. With Tommy Reynolds unavailable and Sam Johnson unfit, Magloire Muyembe also started on the bench after injury, meaning that there were senior debuts for Rhys Thorpe and Jamal Batchilly with the versatile Josh Brown returning in defence. The visitors looked to have brought their improved form with them because they dominated the opening quarter of an hour with some confident attacking play. Mussa Bham was particularly threatening for the visitors shooting just wide and bringing an important save from James Goff as well as setting up Henry Langley with a headed chance from a wellplaced free kick which he sent wide of target. St Neots only reply in that period was a shot across the face of goal by Harvey Williams. However, after 16 minutes in their first credible attack St Neots took the lead as Jordan Brown skilfully beat his man on the bye line and crossed to find the head of Rhys Thorpe who registered his first goal for the club. Visiting keeper Frederick Craven then had to rush from his line to clear off the toe of Jordan Brown who had gone clear of the defence, and the same player set up by Williams then skied an effort over the crossbar. Then after 31 minutes St Neots extended their lead when Thorpe played a pass inside a defender for Jordan Brown to bear down on goal and claim his eighth goal of the season. Simeon Okord broke through and looked like pulling a goal back but shot wide and Lamar Parkes brought a smart save from James Goff. James Hatch headed wide from a Williams cross and then right on half time the visitors got back into the match when Mussa Bham produced a fine 25 yards strike that flew into the top corner of the net to pull a goal back for the visitors.
John Walker's Match Report GNG OADBY TOWN (H) 18-11-2023
Oadby then began the second half strongly with Langley volleying wide and Zaakir Bham seeing an effort deflected for a corner. St Neots sent on Magloire Muyembe for Batchilly, and he set up Williams who saw his shot well saved. At the other end Goff had to push an effort from Mussa Bham over the bar at full stretch and as the half progressed the visitors began to take control. With nine minutes of normal time remaining a cross by Sulieman Nassor found Jay Bruce in space and he levelled the scores with a crisp finish. The remaining time plus six minutes added saw both sides looking for a winning goal, but a draw was probably a fair result with Goff the busier of the two keepers. St Neots Town: Goff, Josh Brown, Nickels, Dummett, George, Lincoln, Thorpe, Batchilly, Jordan Brown, Hatch, Williams Subs: Muyembe (for Batchilly 61 mins), Ajana (for Williams 84 mins), Romero, Akinbobola and Bomolo. Opponent Spotlight GODMANCHESTER ROVERS FC
Situated on the banks of the River Great Ouse, 16 miles North West of Cambridge, on the A14. Godmanchester is a town, not a village as it was chartered in 1212 and again in 1604. Godmanchester has been inhabited for over 2000 years and was a very important Roman settlement. Football has been played in Godmanchester since the late 1890’s Godmanchester Rovers came into existence in 1911, previously playing as Godmanchester Town. The first recorded mention of the club is from the ‘Cambridge Independent Press’ newspaper dated Friday 26th December 1913 where Godmanchester Rovers had a fixture against St-Ives on Boxing Day. During the 1928–29 season, when they won the Hunts Junior Cup. They played in the Huntingdonshire League for many years before joining the Cambridgeshire League. They won the Hunts Junior Cup again in 1988–89, and in 1992 were promoted to the top division of the Cambridgeshire League. In 1994–95 they won the League Cup, retaining it for the next two seasons. However, they were relegated to the Senior Division in 2000. With the club about to move into a new ground, they made a speculative application to join the Eastern Counties League in 2002. Despite being in the second tier of the Cambridgeshire League, the club were successful. They finished bottom of the division in 2004–05, but were not relegated as the league was under strength in terms of numbers. In 2011–12 the club won the Eastern Counties Division One on goal difference to earn promotion to the Premier Division, also winning the Division One Knock-out Cup, defeating Whitton United 1–0 in the final. In the 2014-15 season the club finished as runners-up in the Premier Division also adding the Hunts Senior Cup to an all-round successful record for the season. At the end of season, Nev Nania, retired from his role as First Team manager and took the position of Football Consultant within the club. After 19 games in charge, Manager Aidy Cambridge and Assistant John Bitting stood down from their roles at the club. The clubs football consultant, Nev Nania took temporary charge for the next home match. Former Godmanchester Rovers player, Chris Hyem was appointed First Team manager after being released from Histon FC. Hyem started his tenure with five straight wins, rapidly moving the team up the league and well away from the relegation zone. After a brief run of loses and draws over the Christmas and New Year period, Rovers found their stride again and finished in 12th place. After securing Premiership football for the 2017-2018 season Chris Hyem stood down as manager, electing for a player-assistant role. Ollie Drake was appointed first team manager, fresh from winning the Kershaw League, Premier Division title with Hardwick. Drake will be joined at Rovers by his father Steve. The 2017-2018 Season was marred with high number of postponed games creating a large backlog of matches to be played, due to severe weather, notably ‘The Beast From The East’ and heavy rain. Ollie Drakes aim for the 2017-2018 was to build on the progress made by Chris Hyem during 2016-2017 season and secure a mid-table position. The first few months, in Ollie’s own words ‘A little lack luster’ starting with a run of draws and losses both at home and away. Results started to improve with the return of a number of players that departed at the end of the 2016-2017 season with a run of 7 winning games putting Rovers in 10th position at the start of October. The next 6 weeks then proved to be a difficult period, losing three premiership games, and knocked out of the Hunts Senior Cup and FA Vase. Fortune then returned and from Mid-November through to the end of the season, Rovers won 24, drew 1 and lost 6 of their remaining 31 matches landing Roves a 4th place finish in the seasons 24 team league. This also included a run of 9 games undefeated. During the season break work was undertaken to add addition drainage to the pitch to elevate potential postponed matches. Starting this new season, Chris Hyem has stepped down from his assistant manager role to focus on his player role at the club. A majority of the 2017-2018 squad have signed on for a further year with further new signings to further bolster the squad for a promotion push. Our reserves have appointed Alex Ramos as manager and Stephen Hurst as his assistant. Stephen will also have a role as reserves player. Godmanchester Rovers is very much a family orientated club and most of the improvements to the facilities have been carried out by the committee, volunteers and friends of the club. 90% of the current first team squad are local lads with seven of them from local families. The 2018 -19 season sees the club participating in the Thurlow Nunn Premier, Cambs Mead Plant 1B and the Thurlow Nunn Under 18 Youth League.
