BLAST FROM THE PAST
ST NEOTS TOWN 11
FELIXSTOWE & WALTON 0
The big news in the week was St Neots’ signing of former Aston Villa striker Stefan Moore from Halesowen Town for a ‘five figure’ transfer fee. Stefan in his first full season in non-league football scored 39 goals for Halesowen winning the Zamaretto Premier League Golden boot for 2009/10 in the process. Within three minutes playing time of his debut for St Neots he had scored, and he added a further three goals to his tally by half time as St Neots led by a record breaking nine goals to nil. It was inevitable that the tempo would drop after the break but Felixstowe refused to give up despite the score line and to their great credit they restricted St Neots to just two further goals in the second half. A series of substitutions did little to sustain the electric pace of the first half but this was to be St Neots biggest victory in any football since 1968/69 season. Although Moore rightly takes the limelight, he was greatly assisted by an outstanding all round team performance and especially by Shane Tolley whose second hat trick for the club took his personal tally to thirteen in just eight appearances.
In the most dramatic of starts to a football match the first six minutes of play contained three goals for St Neots and the sad sight of the visiting goalkeeper Liam Jones being stretchered off with a suspected broken ankle. That happed after just seventy seconds in St Neots first attack when the keeper collided heavily with Will Fordham at a corner. It took five minutes for the injured player to be stabilized and removed from the pitch and replacement goalkeeper James Waters came on and within three minutes saw a brilliant lob by Stefan Moore fly over his head and inside the far post. Less than a minute later it was 2-0 as Lewis Hilliard miss hit a shot across the face of goal and Lewis Webb rose to head home and after eleven minutes Shane Tolley celebrated his UCL award as September leading scorer by drifting past two defenders to score with a well placed shot. After 19 minutes a superbly unselfish short pass by Moroe set up Shane Tolley for his second goal and seven minutes later Hilliard was brought down on the edge of the area and Will Fordham’s free kick was too hot for the keeper who got his hands to the ball but could not hold it. Moore then hit a post as St Neots piled on the pressure but his second and St Neots sixth goal was probably the pick of the lot.Fordham was the provider with a delightful short pass to Stefan Moore who accelerated past a statuesque defender and rounded the keeper to tap in from close range.
BLAST FROM THE PAST
When Moore was tripped by Martin Calver in the penalty area it was almost inevitable that he would pick himself up to complete his hat trick as he scored from the penalty kick with a tap in after his first effort had been parried by the unlucky Waters. Two more goals in the three minutes before the break from Lewis Hilliard and Stefam Moore made it 9-0 at the break.
Felixstowe looked far more determined after half time and Adam Hampson had their first real shot of the match after 49 minutes well saved by the previous spectatorial Luke McShane and two minutes later Dan Spencer missed a gilt edged chance with a misdirected header. However St Neots continued to create chances and from a Rob Hughes corner Will Fordham planted a header onto the roof of the net. After 62 minutes it was Fordham again the creator with a shrewd through pass to Shane Tolley whose pace took him past the last defender to send the score into double figures and with Tony Scully and Roy Essendoh on for Lewis Hilliard and Adam Jones new boy Moore was then handed a midfield role. He responded by laying ion the last of the eleven goals for Dan Jacob and that was deserved reward for another impressive performance. Roy Essendoh almost became the seventh scorer for St Neots but his header was cleared off the line by substitute George MacCallum.
St Neots: McShane, Jones, Hyem (M), Webb, Fuff, Fordham, Hilliard, Hughes, Moore, Tolley, Jacob.
Subs: Essendoh (for Jones 59 mins), Scully (for Hilliard 65 mins), French (for Hughes 73 mins) Haniver & Trebes.
Man of the match: Stefan Moore

GOOD AFTERNOON AND A VERY WARM WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO OUR NORTHAMPTONSHIRE VISITORS
This is to be Bugbrooke’s seventh visit to St Neots but only their second to the Premier Plus Stadium.Their previous five visits were at the original Rowley Park at the bottom of this site – four in the league and one in the league cup. Our first meeting was shortly after our club reformation in the 1994/95 season and was in the lower division of the UCL. We were flying high at the top of the table, but our Northamptonshire visitors became the first side to beat us in the league at home that season.Their 1-0 victory was the only time we failed to score in a home league fixture that season, and they went on to rub salt in the wounds to complete a league double at Birds Close later in the season with a 3-1 victory. Our League Cup meeting five years later at Bugbrooke saw us win by the odd goal in five with Tony Davis scoring twice and Paul Carey once. Their other three league visits to the Town were in the top division of the UCL between 1999 and 2002 and were not as successful for Bugbrooke for they were beaten on each occasion conceding fourteen goals in the three visits and scoring just twice. This season our visitors made an early exit from the FA Cup beaten 2-0 at home by Loughborough Students in the preliminary qualifying round whilst in the FA Vase they negotiated the first qualifying round away at Rising Ballers, Kensington, winners in a penalty shoot-out after a 0-0 draw. However, like our lads they bowed out of the competition last weekend beaten at home by Northampton ON Chenecks by a single goal to nil. They also made an early exit from the League KO Cup beaten at home by Leicester Nirvana by a single goal to nil. Last season the home league match here was our first in the UCL for twelve seasons and it resulted in a handsome 3-0 victory for our lads with James Hatch, Magloire Muyembe and Josh Brown (penalty) our marksmen. Then in the away match James Hatch was once again our marksman in a 1-1 draw.

ISUZU FA VASE SECOND ROUND QUALIFYING
ST NEOTS TOWN0
DOWNHAM TOWN 2
St Neots’ season is in danger of imploding after four defeats in their last five matches. Their results include recent exits from the FA Cup, the League Cup and now the FA Vase. So, with only the two local cup competitions (Huntingdonshire Senior Cup and Hinchingbrooke Cup) left to play for in addition to their league programme they must now concentrate on finding consistency if they want to aim for promotion at the end of the season. However, if they are to achieve that they must first look for improvement and belief in their performances and results because this defeat must rank as they worst single showing so far. Of course, having two players sent off in the final twenty minutes did not help their cause, but without those dismissals the overall performance was sloppy and disappointing, against opponents who scored once and were then happy to hold on for the narrowest of victories. With Dan Walker and Charlie Bowen back in the side it was a bench start for Harvey Williams whilst Dammy Nickels was rested.
There was little positive action from either side in the first twenty minutes other than a lengthy effort from Lagshaw Sivakumer that James Goff turned over the crossbar and a low shot from Connor Furlong at the other end that warmed the hands of the visiting keeper. Then St Neots had to reshuffle when skipper Robbie Parker limped off with a muscle problem with Lil Francisco substituting. Dan Walker tried to get St Neots going and from his cross Michael Amaeshike saw his effort well saved. The home side were further hit when Sam Willis was injured with Christian Tavernier replacing him in midfield and then Thorpe brought an acrobatic save from visiting keeper Duncan McAnally. Five minutes before the break in a rare attack the visitors scored what was to prove the only goal of the match. Following a corner, Lashaw Sivakumer scored with an angled shot that deflected in off the far post. In the next few minutes Rhys Thorpe headed wide from a Walker cross and then brought a good save from McAnally after clever play by Furlong but St Neots went to the break trailing their visitors still unable to make their superior possession count.
John Walker's Match Report
DOWNHAM TOWN FC (H)
21-09-2024
Seven minutes into the second half defender Charlie Bowen won the ball in the air from a Kieran Barnes corner but saw his effort rebound from the crossbar to be scrambled clear. Amaeshike should have done better from a Walker cross, but his effort was easily gathered by the keeper and after 67 minutes when the visitors broke forward Bowen was issued with a second yellow for a mis-timed challenge, having been booked eight minutes before in a penalty area scramble at the other end. Although down to ten men, St Neots continued to have the bulk of possession but never seriously tested the visiting keeper. Both sides used all their substitutes to little significant effect and in the nine minutes added time St Neots had Lil Francisco redcarded for a last man tackle offence, so St Neots finished with just nine men and a very forgettable performance and defeat.

N’HAMPTON ON CHENECKS (A) 24-09-2024
GCE HIRE PLANT UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION SOUTH
ON CHENECKS 2 ST NEOTS TOWN 2
St Neots clambered out of their poor run of form as they rallied to deservedly rescue a point in their midweek visit to ON Chenecks. Twice their trailed in a see-saw match but each time they responded – the second equaliser coming four minutes into added time after a ten minutes’ delay when as Assistant Referee was taken ill. Their overall performance was good, but their finishing was wayward, and they conceded a very sloppy second goal to the home side but showed good character to recover and produce their equalising goal to earn a share of the points. With skipper Rob Parker and Sam Willis injured on Saturday, Charlie Bowen unwell and Rhys Thorpe unavailable, Manager Cameron Mawer was forced into making major changes in his starting line up and he left Dan Walker on the bench bringing in Harvey Williams, Lil Francisco, Dammy Nickels, James Hatch and Christian Tavernier – the latter for his first start of the season.
In a rather low key first half there was little of significance to note although the home side had taken the lead after six minutes with their first attack when St Neots conceded a midfield free kick and Ryan Coxhill’s cross found the head of the unmarked Harry Chipchase who finished well. The visitors then enjoyed a lengthy spell of possession but created little other than several corners that were successfully defended. As half time approach the home side produced a couple of breakaway attacks but from close range as Coxhill dragged his finish wide and Lewis Irwin fired high over the St Neots crossbar. Just before the break a Dammy Nickels free kick brought a good save from home custodian Bradley Lashley. There was an explosive stat to the second half when after just 23 seconds St Neots debutant Christian Tavernier marked his first start with a cracking drive from 30 yards that levelled the scores. Irwin had a shot deflected at the other end, but St Neots were now looking more determined in attack and with Dan Walker on for Harvey Williams they began to threaten the home goal. Then, after 77 minutes, a moment of defensive carelessness let in the home side for a second goal and Josh Kilsby took full advantage to reinstate the Chenecks lead.
John Walker's Match Report
N’HAMPTON ON CHENECKS (A) 24-09-2024
A delay of some ten minutes saw a linesman replaced and St Neots then had to regroup to rescue some pride from their display. The deserved second equaliser came four minutes into the time added for the stoppage, when Connor Furlong was upended on the edge of the penalty area and Nickels’ free kick set up Michael Amaeshike for his fifth goal of the season. Both sides then had chances deep into that added time to claim a winning goal. With St Neots pushed forward Coxhill squandered the Chenecks chance miskicking in front of goal and with almost the last kick of the match Dan Walker volleyed wide after neat play by Amaeshike.

Bugbrooke St Michaels FC
Founded in 1929, Bugbrooke St Michaels FC replaced Bugbrooke United who wound up in 1927 having played since 1910.
In our early years we won the Central Village League from 1932–37 and were Runners-Up in the NFA Junior Cup. Other successful teams have arisen in each decade since then with the sides of the 60’s and 70’s being extremely prodigious in winning trophies.
In 1985 we joined the United Counties League and won promotion to the UCL Premier Division in 1999 which enabled us to play in the FA Cup and FA Vase for the first time. Since joining the UCL the club has run four senior teams, two of which play in the Northants Combination League.
The club are proud to have developed a mini and youth system which has run since the 1990’s, We currently run 12 teams across our Mini and Youth section from Under 7s through to Under 18s, many of whom have gained honours in the Northampton & District Youth Alliance and Northants Senior Youth Leagues.
In 2003 the club became a Community Charter Standard Club and in 2004/2005 we were recognised by Northants FA as the best Community Club.
As a reward for the clubs hard work in the community, in 2007 the then Under 10’s were invited to represent Northants FA in a six-a-side tournament at the new Wembley Stadium.
The latest addition to the club is an open-age Ladies team who were entered in the Northants Women’s and Girls League for the 2020/21 season.
Off the pitch the club has worked hard to improve its facilities investing a lot of time and money to make them amongst the best in the County.
We were awarded a Football Foundation grant in 2006 enabling us to build the new changing rooms and improve social facilities. These were opened in 2007 by John Gregory who is connected to the village by marriage.
Improvements continue to be made on and off the pitch as the club continues to move forward.
