Greenie’s Greetings With Director Mike Green "Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to the Premier Plus Stadium for today‘s United Counties League Premier Division South match. Today we extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of March Town United Football Club and we hope you enjoy our hospitality this afternoon“. Two draws on the spin against GNG Oadby Town and more recently, Yaxley, have seen us drop just outside the playoff positions so today‘s game becomes even more important for ourselves as we face the Hares, who themselves have faltered recently. This division is super competitive, with teams near the bottom getting positive results against the front runners, so we know we will be in for a tough test today. Just got to say the spirit amongst the boys is superb, coming back from twonil down against the Cuckoos to get a share of the points and actually find themselves very unlucky not to have taken all three points. A big thank you too to all our travelling support. Once again, you were immense. A big welcome back to Club Legend, Steve Kuhne who begins his tenure as assistant manager today and we wish him all the very best of luck going forward and also welcome aboard to Centre-Back Ollie Brookes, who has joined us from Histon FC. As we are fast approaching the mid point of the season, I‘d just like to thank everyone who takes the time to read this magazine. So far, eleven editions (not including this one) are receiving an average of 196 reads per edition, which is fantastic, so once again, thank you all. Right, back to today. Crank up the noise levels and lets make that Twelfth Man count !!!

Boardroom Gossip From The Dugout With Chairman BarryCameron Cavilla With Manager Mawer " I’d like to welcome everyone associated to March Town to The Premier Plus stadium. March Town are a top side at this level and I hugely admire the way they play, what I have come to learn particularly in the last few weeks is that the games against the top sides are won and lost on small margins and I am sure like us they will have done there homework on what we do and how they can exploit us“. This is the third time we have met this season, first time round we travelled down there and faced a side who had won 4 out of 4 games at the time and we had a game plan and executed it perfectly and came away with a deserved 1-0 win. The second meeting was in the Hinchingbrooke cup and we went there resting 6 bodies and were comfortably beaten on the night 4-1. I have no doubts today will be a good watch between two good sides. We knew November and the start of December was a testing period for us with all games against top half opposition. 2 draws and 2 defeats doesn’t reflect or tell the full story and all 4 games have been hugely entertaining encounters I’d have liked for us to have picked up a few more points and I would say I feel we have deserved more points, but we all know in football you don’t always get what you deserve and it’s down to us to go out and earn the points. Im delighted to welcome club legend Steve Kuhne back to the club in the role as assistant manager, I am sure everyone will be aware of what Steve has achieved at this football club and I know his experience will be invaluable for us. This is his m club and he will give everything in his powers to see the club succeed and I am really looking forward to working with him. This week we welcomed Ollie Brookes from Histon this week and he will give us some strength at centre half and a willingness to defend as we do pride ourselves on clean sheets and being hard to score against and Ollie will certainly add to that. As we welcome one in we lose Sam Johnson for certainly this season. He’s been an excellent signing and produced some memorable moments including his fantastic strike against Histon but most importantly he’s been a great person to have around and everyone at the football club wishes him a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back out there soon. You are the best supporters in the league and there isn’t a place at at the level or above that creates the noise and atmosphere you saints fans do and I can’t wait to hear it come Saturday,
Cam
Enjoy the game.

UNITED COUNTIES LEAGUE KO CUP SEMI-FINAL (21/March 2006) St Neots 4
Cogenhoe1 (after extra time)
A magnificent hat trick in just twelve minutes of extra time by Gary Walker propelled St Neots into their second Cup Final of the season at the expense of reigning UCL champions Cogenhoe on Tuesday evening at Rowley Park. The League Cup Final on 27th April will therefore be against Yaxley in the first ever UCL Final involving two Huntingdonshire sides. It was a stubbornly defiant performance by St Neots short of three or four first choice players and typifies the character instilled in the side by Manager Steve Kuhne. Cogenhoe had already beaten the Saints twice this season home and away in the league, but this was a Cup Tie to remember as both sides adopted a swift raiding attacking approach to the match. The only difficult thing to explain was why more than the first hour was goalless because both sides created chances, but their finishing was disappointing. St Neots began well creating early chances but visiting keeper Pete Earl did well to parry a low shot by Danny Griggs and saved well from Gary Walker. At the other end James Thatcher headed tamely over the bar from a free kick and Steve Young saved bravely at the feet of Tom McGowan. Nicky Hurst up for a set piece headed narrowly wide and when Steve Diggin caught the St Neots defence square to go clear his finish did not bother the well-placed Young. The momentum stayed high until half time but upon the restart both sides adopted a more cautious approach. Clearly the first goal was going to be significant, and it arrived after 71 minutes from an unexpected source. A Matt Endersby corner was only cleared as far as Ricky Dear some 25 yards from goal and his gentle lob goalwards seemed to catch everyone by surprise and the visiting keeper only flapped at the ball that finished up in the net. In their euphoria St Neots were caught by a sucker punch for within forty seconds Cameron Clark upended Elliot Sandy and from the penalty spot Darren Collins levelled the scores. Both sides had a late opening to finish the tie in normal time but Andre Maltay’ s close range header was saved, and Steve Young blocked Steve Diggin’s low drive.
BLAST FROM THE PAST Saturday 21st March 2006
The stalemate was quickly broken in the first minute of extra time when a neat chip by Ricky Dear over the defence found Gary Walker who put his side ahead with an angled shot. James Hatch almost increased the lead heading wide from Matt Endersby’s free kick, but it was Endersby who laid on the important third goal after 96 minutes when Nicky Hurst headed down his free kick for Gary Walker to score from close range. Cogenhoe now had to commit themselves to attack, and this left gaps at the back and two minutes before the end of the first period of extra time Gary Walker completed his second hat trick of the season showing great control to ghost past the last defender to make the score 4-1. If St Neots then thought. they had done enough to cruise through the final fifteen minutes they were wrong as Cogenhoe mounted a fierce effort to retrieve their position. Now Steve Young with two magnificent saves broke their hearts and skipper Nicky Hurst was magnificent as he rallied his defence to earn that coveted Cup Final place – the Saints second appearance in that Final in three seasons. St Neots: Young, Clark, Endersby, Watts, Hurst, Dear, Hatch (Franklin 115 mins), Maltay, Kuhne, Walker (Murray 113 mins), Griggs (Jordan 115 mins). Subs not used: Webb and Fox. Goals: Dear 71 mins, Walker (3) 91 mins, 96 mins & 103 mins.

John Walker's Match Preview MARCH TOWN UNITED FC
Year founded: 1885 Chairman: Lee Brownlow Club Website: www.marchtownunited.co.uk GOOD AFTERNOON AND WELCOME TO THE PREMIER PLUS STADIUM TO OUR VISITORS MARCH TOWN FOR OUR THIRD MEETING OF THE SEASON Not having played March since our club reformation in 1991 until this season, this afternoon will be our third meeting with the Hares in less than four months! Our two previous meetings with March have been at the GER Sports Ground so today we are pleased to welcome their players, officials, and supporters to the Premier Plus Stadium. The record shows one win apiece in our two recent meetings. In August in a closely fought encounter a goal from Harvey Williams gave us three important league points but around six weeks later March gained some revenge with a 4-1 Hinchingbrooke Cup victory. Our visitors had an almost perfect start to their season winning their first four league matches and being ever present in the top five places in the table since day one. However, their league form has taken a dip with two wins, two draws and two defeats in their last six matches. Their cup form has also been disappointing. First round exits from their three principal competitions have seen them lose away at Wisbech Town in the FA Cup extra preliminary round, at home to Mildenhall in the second round qualifying of the FA Vase, and away at Aylestone Park in the League Cup. However, they have progressed to the semi-final of the Hinchingbrooke Cup beating St Neots and Whittlesey and they also beat Great Shelford in the Cambridgeshire Invitation Cup. Last Saturday March defeated Desborough by a goal to nil – the important goal not coming until five minutes from time. So, a vital match for both sides at a critical point in the season with the top five places in the table changing from week to week.
Previous meeting of our teams: 19th August 2023 26th Sept 2023 Enjoy the match.

Seasons Past - With John Walker This Edition Focuses on Season 2005/06
This is one of the series of historical records, highlighting this time another season at our old Rowley Park Stadium depicting both the highs and the lows in the recent proud history of the Club. It proved to be a best season for 29 years (apart from two seasons before when we also finished fourth) as we equalled our best UCL Premier Division finish since 1976/77. All that came despite mid-season Managerial upheaval when Steve Kuhne resigned after a month to concentrate on playing. Iain Parr took over for three weeks before the club appointed another player/manager – goalkeeper Steve Young. Kuhne’s decision paid handsome dividends for him and the club as he went on to score 46 goals – the best individual one-season tally for more than 35 years! That season the Football Association expanded the non-league promotion arrangements which gave the possibility of two promotions to Step Four but after an impressive run after Christmas when they were in second place chasing runaway league leaders Woodford United, St Neots fell away to finish fourth. However, there was one slice of history making when for the first time in 73 years two Huntingdonshire clubs contested the United Counties League KO Cup Final. Unfortunately, Yaxley prevailed winning by the odd goal in three! League Final League position: League playing record: Cup playing record:
UCL Premier Division Fourth / 22 P42 W25 D5 L12 For 81 Against 52 pts 80 P20 W12 D2 L6 For 43 Against 33
Our fourth placed finish just failed to emulate previous finishes, but the side recorded 25 home league victories – the best tally since 1967/68 Our best away league victory of the season – 7-1 away at Harrowby United was our biggest since 1995/96 – our first year back in the Premier Division of the United Counties League. Three Cup Final defeats in a fortnight – Yaxley (UCL KO Cup), Ortonians (Hunts Senior Cup) and Yaxley again (Hunts Premier Cup) – a season of so near yet so far The Reserve had their final season in the Bedfordshire County Reserve League and finished fifth despite not completing their final two matches! Our leading scorers were as follows: ·Steve Kuhne 46 ·Gary Walker 33 ·Nicky Hurst 7 ·James Hatch 4 ·Matt Endersby 4 Our Player/Manager was Steve Young

Youth Team Match Report Cambridge City (H) 20-11-2023 Thurlow Nunn Youth League West Division ST NEOTS TOWN U18

CAMBRIDGE CITY U 18
1
A late goal from substitute Levi Baker rescued a point for the league leaders against Cambridge City U18’s. Although it gave St Neots a three points’ lead at the top of the table, second placed Deeping Rangers now have three matches in hand, so St Neots’ retention of the league title is looking unlikely. The result should come as no surprise for Cambridge City are proving St Neots nemesis with now only one defeat in their last five league visits to the Premier Plus Stadium. St Neots began well with lots of early possession and Harley Camfield should have done better with an eighth minute header from a corner that flew wide. Visiting keeper Gene Holt-Ghag then saved well at the feet of Uriah Brewster but the visitors were growing in confidence and Fenton Mee went clear of the defence, but the home keeper saved at his feet. Alex Bent also had to leave his line to deny Isaac OseiBonsu and after 23 minutes Bent was again in action pushing a net bound effort from Osei-Bonsu over the bar. After 32 minutes following a period of possession the visitors went ahead when Isaac Osei-Bonsu was left unmarked in the six yards area to turn home a cross from Alfie Till, to put the visitors ahead. St Neots only response was a low shot from Will Jolley comfortably saved by the visiting keeper. St Neots made a couple of significant half time changes and substitute Caleb Wright set up Camfield, but he headed over the bar. Just as St Neots seemed to be getting on top Frankie Webster was sin-binned for dissent after the Referee had overlooked a late tackle by a visiting player. This rocked St Neots back on their heels and they fell back. However, a free kick by Joel Jolley was saved at full stretch by Holt-Ghag and the same St Neots player headed over from a corner. St Neots thought they should have had a penalty when Camfield tumbled in the box, but the Referee waved play on and then Bent did well to turn a dipping shot from Mee over the bar. The equaliser came seven minutes from time when substitute Levi Baker sent a shot from 25 yards beyond the reach of the visiting keeper, and then Rocco Smith spurned St Neots chances of a late winner when he shot wide in added time. St Neots Town: Bent, Hughes-Graham, Olive, Khoo, Jolley (J), Baker (A), Smith, Webster, Camfield, Jolley (W), Brewster Subs: Baker (L), Tonks, Wright, Morris. Cards: Frankie Webster (sin bin)

GNG OADBY

Leading 2-0 approaching half time St Neots looked well set to bounce back from two consecutive away league defeats but a late first half goal and a strong second half saw their Leicestershire visitors deservedly earn a share of the points. Ironically both sides will view this result as two points dropped because Oadby had won all four league matches since they had beaten by St Neots in the first meeting of the two sides a month ago. With Tommy Reynolds unavailable and Sam Johnson unfit, Magloire Muyembe also started on the bench after injury, meaning that there were senior debuts for Rhys Thorpe and Jamal Batchilly with the versatile Josh Brown returning in defence. The visitors looked to have brought their improved form with them because they dominated the opening quarter of an hour with some confident attacking play. Mussa Bham was particularly threatening for the visitors shooting just wide and bringing an important save from James Goff as well as setting up Henry Langley with a headed chance from a wellplaced free kick which he sent wide of target. St Neots only reply in that period was a shot across the face of goal by Harvey Williams. However, after 16 minutes in their first credible attack St Neots took the lead as Jordan Brown skilfully beat his man on the bye line and crossed to find the head of Rhys Thorpe who registered his first goal for the club. Visiting keeper Frederick Craven then had to rush from his line to clear off the toe of Jordan Brown who had gone clear of the defence, and the same player set up by Williams then skied an effort over the crossbar. Then after 31 minutes St Neots extended their lead when Thorpe played a pass inside a defender for Jordan Brown to bear down on goal and claim his eighth goal of the season. Simeon Okord broke through and looked like pulling a goal back but shot wide and Lamar Parkes brought a smart save from James Goff. James Hatch headed wide from a Williams cross and then right on half time the visitors got back into the match when Mussa Bham produced a fine 25 yards strike that flew into the top corner of the net to pull a goal back for the visitors.
John Walker's Match Report GNG OADBY TOWN (H) 18-11-2023
Oadby then began the second half strongly with Langley volleying wide and Zaakir Bham seeing an effort deflected for a corner. St Neots sent on Magloire Muyembe for Batchilly, and he set up Williams who saw his shot well saved. At the other end Goff had to push an effort from Mussa Bham over the bar at full stretch and as the half progressed the visitors began to take control. With nine minutes of normal time remaining a cross by Sulieman Nassor found Jay Bruce in space and he levelled the scores with a crisp finish. The remaining time plus six minutes added saw both sides looking for a winning goal, but a draw was probably a fair result with Goff the busier of the two keepers. St Neots Town: Goff, Josh Brown, Nickels, Dummett, George, Lincoln, Thorpe, Batchilly, Jordan Brown, Hatch, Williams Subs: Muyembe (for Batchilly 61 mins), Ajana (for Williams 84 mins), Romero, Akinbobola and Bomolo. YAXLEY

ST NEOTS TOWN

For the sixth time in a row St Neots returned from neighbours Yaxley without winning – their record now shows three draws and three defeats during that sequence. The two sides had earlier drawn their first league meeting this season at St Neots. However, having found themselves two goals in arrears at the break, the visitors will have been pleased not to have returned home empty-handed. It was the traditional game of two halves with Yaxley dominant in the first half as the visitors squandered their chances, but they made up for it in the first twenty minutes after the break producing a stunning comeback. The St Neots player most relieved by the result will be goalkeeper James Goff who had gifted the home side their second goal. There were two St Neots team changes with Malaki Black returning for the injured Kyle Lincoln and Magloire Muyembe preferred to Jamil Batchilly in midfield. It was a game that moved from end to end for the full ninety minutes and there could have been many more goals but for some stout play by both defences. Apart from one early effort by Ryley Nicholson-Barfoot for the home side, it was St Neots who made the early running with Dean Dummett heading narrowly over the bar, James Hatch seeing Finlay Henderson clearing his effort off the goal line, and Harvey Williams firing narrowly wide after neat play by Malaki Black. Yaxley hit back with Matthew Harris-Hercules squandering a good opening and Lil Francisco shooting wide. After 28 minutes the home side took the lead when a good solo finish from Ryley Nicholson-Barfoot after cutting in from the left flank left the St Neots keeper stranded.Worse was to follow for James Goff because eight minutes later he left his goal area in an attempt to clear only to present the ball to Matthew Harris-Hercules who was able to lift the ball into the unguarded net. Prior to the second goal James Hatch had seen a low shot rebound from the woodwork but after having had the better first half chances St Neots went to the break two goals behind. The second half was a different story.St Neots came out to totally dominate the first twenty minutes and with Jamal Batchilly on for Dummett they created several good openings prior to scoring twice in five minutes to level the scores around the hour mark.
John Walker's Match Report YAXLEY FC (A) 25-11-2023
The first goal almost mirrored the one gifted to Yaxley in the first half as home keeper Conor Barton mishit a clearance straight to James Hatch and he lobbed the ball into the net to spark the recovery. Then with Yaxley reeling an accurately placed free kick by Dammy Nickels levelled the scores. That second setback seemed to spur the home side who hit back with Nicholson-Barfoot twice testing the visiting keeper. Barton atoned for his error with a brave save at the feet of Rhys Thorpe and he then twisted in the air to touch another Nickels effort for a corner. Although St Neots finished strongly, they could not find a winning goal.
St Neots Town: Goff, Black, Nickels, Dummett, George, Josh Brown, Thorpe, Muyembe, Jordan Brown, Hatch, Williams Subs: Batchilly (for Dummett 61 mins), Ajana, Kalek, and Akinbobola. Opponent Spotlight MARCH TOWN UNITED FC
March Town played on several grounds in the early 1880’s before sharing a ground with March Town Cricket Club at The Avenue. March Town played there until after the war. As founder members of the Isle of Ely Football League, March played in that League until joining the Peterborough & District League. After the war they added `United’ to the Clubs’ title, reflecting the move to the GER sports ground in Robingoodfellows Lane. After an unsuccessful spell in the United Counties League, March appointed exNorwich City and Notts County player, Oscar Hold as Manager and after two seasons won the UCL Championship. In the 1955-56 season, March joined the Eastern Counties League and finished runners-up to Peterborough United Reserves. They finished runners-up to Spurs `A’ in the 1960-61 season but had to wait until the 1987-88 season to lift the Championship. March have won the League Cup once, beating Spurs 3-2 in a two-leg final, with the second leg being played at White Hart Lane. The Hares have reached the first-round proper of the FA Cup twice, going out to Brentford 4-0 in the 1956-57 season and more recently losing 2-0 at Swindon (1977-78 season). They have jointly held the East Anglian cup with Barking in 1953-54. March Town now runs three senior sides and a Ladies Team. The 1st team play in the Thurlow Nunn (Eastern) Division One North, whilst the Reserves, A Team and ladies teams play in the Cambridgeshire Leagues March Town also has a thriving Youth set up, with the under 18’s playing in the Thurlow Nunn League.
