It Starts Today Gary King Good Afternoon everyone and welcome to our opponents today, Hemel Hempstead FC. Congratulations on your fine start to the season.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Iain Parr for everything he has done to make this transition both smooth and amicable and I look forward to continuing to working with and building my relationship with Iain.

Of course, it’s not our games against the likes of the Hemels that will determine the outcome of our season, this will be sorted out against the teams in the lower half of table, so I see the next few games where we play Hemel, Biggleswade, Poole and St Albans as an ideal opportunity to lay the foundations for a batch of games against teams which are in and around us in the league. I note that Hemel, themselves, were technically relegated from this division just one and a half seasons ago. From that point it has taken until

League Leaders Hemel come to us today top of the league, having scored 19 goals in the last two games conceding 1 (I know!). The way I see it is every team in our league will lose games, therefore, every team in our league are beatable. A very important ingredient in achieving the turnaround required this season is that everyone involved at the club; players, management, supporters and staff believe that from the 1st minute to the 95th minute, we can win, irrespective of who we play.

Saints bounced back from their FA Cup exit with an emphatic win at Cogenhoe which has normally not been a happy hunting ground for the visitors. Despite the scoreline Cogenhoe never gave up and striker Zac Nedimovic was always a threat in the air. Bas Belgrave after suspension and Nathan Buckland made welcome returns to the side and were the stars of the Saints display although everybody played their part. Saints started brightly and Mark Franklin produced two dangerous crosses from the second of which Ryan Francis hit the post. After nine minutes Bas Belgrave was allowed to run at the home defence and he put the Saints in front with a low right footed shot. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Franklin and Francis worked the ball down the right before Francis crossed for Belgrave put away his second goal of the game. St Neots continued to press with Fehmi playing well down the left and his free kick saw Kuhne set up a chance for Francis which went just over the bar. The twenty third minute saw Belgrave complete his hat trick following an astute pass by Ivan Finch. His first shot hit the keeper and looped up into the air but following up he headed into the net. Franklin and Deverall then had further attempts on goal as St Neots appeared to ease off a little allowing Cogenhoe back into the game. Roy Bloxham had to gather a Nedimovic header at the far post and was then forced to tip the ball round for a corner as the same player went close again after thirty four minutes. The visiting defence however continued to stand firm with Jon Hoggett making two timely interventions as the half came to a close.

Fehmi started the second half off with a good run for the visitors but Cogenhoe were soon pressing with Russell making an important block and Bloxham another useful save. Saints seemed to be defending a bit carelessly but they nearly added a fourth goal after fifty eight minutes when Steve Kuhne was just unable to get enough contact on a free kick to divert it into the net. Francis then broke into the box but his effort landed on the roof of the net. Bloxham was forced into action again and the ever influential Buckland made a great tackle followed by a clearing header from under the bar. St Neots passing game then clicked into gear when Deverall broke from midfield and fed substitute Jamie Osborne. He should have scored but his effort rebounded from the keeper to Deverall who tricked his way around several defenders before seeing his final shot roll over the line for the fourth goal on eighty seven minutes. On the stroke of full time Saints went one better as Steve Kuhne notched his first goal of the season and the visitors fifth of the game. Osborne fed Franklin and his cross was neatly put away to end the match in the best possible way. It was without doubt the Saints best performance of the season. St Neots were outclassed in this match by a Corby side still basking in the glow of their FA Cup giant killing feat away at Colwyn Bay that has put them in the First Round Proper. been scored and sixteen conceded it is at both ends that St Neots must soon find some redemption.

They controlled the match from midfield where former Aston Villa star Lee Hendrie totally ran the show. St Neots were without the injured pair Adrian Sear and Mark Ducket and this let Ben Ford and Jhai Dhillon into the starting line up with Dan Crowie preferred to Alasan Ann in defence and Lewis Wilson starting for the first time. However the changes probably had little direct effect on the outcome of the match because St Neots were out thought and outplayed by a team they had been unlucky not to beat earlier in the season. With three strikers in their line up St Neots certainly created more chances than of late but that is only significant when those chances result in goals and now with five successive league defeats in which two goals have

Early Chances Ironically it was St Neots who created the first two chances of the game as visiting keeper Paul Walker was called upon to save efforts from Matt Nolan and Jay Davies. Then after 14 minutes with their first real chance the visitors went ahead as a Tommy Wright shot rebounded off a defender to the feet of Nathan Rooney and his fierce shot from ten yards gave Niall Conroy no chance. The home keeper then saved well from a rising shot by Tommy Berwick after clever play by Lee Hendrie but after 27 minutes it was brother Stuart Hendrie who broke clear down the right flank to cross for Tommy Wright to sweep the ball in at the far post from close range. Walker made a rare mistake fumbling a Davies shot but he made up for that lapse with a good save to deny the same St Neots player whilst at the other end Conroy did well to push a fierce shot by Berwick over the cross bar. However with the first half completed Corby were good value for their two goals advantage.

4-4-2 St Neots sent on Bobby-Joe Taylor and reverted to a 4-4-2 formation after the break resulting in them competing far better. However the Hendrie brothers continued to torment them with Stuart cutting in to force Conroy to claw his shot away and Lee sending over the perfect corner to find the unmarked Paul Malone who glanced his effort wide of the far post. Leon Hibbert headed over from a Taylor cross and substitute Lewis Hilliard made an instant impact coming on to bring the sae of the match from Walker. Dashed With Corby happy to play deep in midfield to preserve their advantage it was against the run of play when after 72 minutes any outside hopes of a St Neots comeback were dashed. Stuart Hendrie timed his run to perfection to beat the offside trap and cross for Rooney to sidestep his marker and produce a fierce shot that beat the unfortunate Conroy at his near post. Berwick then also beat the keeper but saw his shot rebound from the bar but to their credit St Neots persevered with success as Dhillon and Hilliard twice went close to claiming a consolation goal. With both Corby and Truro winning on the night St Neots now find themselves seven points away from climbing out of the relegation zone.

Lee Hendrie A match to forget, the saints never gained control of the midfield and ex Aston Villa and England midfield player Lee Hendry showed all of his class and ran the game for Corby.

Lee Hendry. Experience showed and no more than Lee in this match. Even though he looked a little unfit he still had the class to put on a match winning performance.

Iain Parr’s final match in charge of St Neots ended in an FA Trophy defeat at the hands of Northern Premier League side Matlock Town in the Peak District. This brought to an end St Neots’ interest in National competition this season but it came as Parr was forced to field a largely experimental line up with half a dozen of his first team squad either injured or unavailable. However the side were unlucky not to have at least brought Matlock back to St Neots for a replay for they had much the better of the second half and their defeat was only confirmed by a goal against the run of play two minutes from time. This was defeat from which there were so many positives to be gained. Jake Woolley leading the line with determination and skill was unlucky not to have featured on the score sheet and Alasan Ann already utilised as a striker and central defender was slotted in at full back to give an almost faultless performance. Elsewhere the first time midfield pairing of Dave Deeney and loanee Liam Hurst were more than adequate and the return to the starting line up of Lewis Hilliard saw him almost back to his best. The new Manager due to be named early in the week will start his tenure with selection problems as the missing players return to the squad for next week’s league visit of title favourites Hemel Hempstead.

Heavy rain just prior to the match ensured a difficult slippery surface and both sides took some time to find a rhythm. There were just two early shots on goal from Liam Needham and Micky Harcourt dealt with comfortably by Niall Conroy and then after 18 minutes Matlock went ahead with the first real chance of the match. Corey Gregory went over an inswinging corner to a packed six yards box where St Neots goalkeeper was crowded out and the unmarked Micky Harcourt rose to head firmly into the net. St Neots were unlucky not to level three minutes later when Jay Davies was fouled 25 yards from goal and Lewis Hilliard’s perfectly placed free kick had to be acrobatically turned over the bar by home keeper Jon Kennedy. Conroy did have to make one important save from Lavell White but St Neots were gradually beginning to dominate the game with Kennedy doing well to block a narrow angled shot from Woolley and Jay Davies playing just behind the striker bringing two saves from the keeper as he sought to keep his goal intact. After half time the pattern of play continued with St Neots dominating possession but they lacked a cutting edge up front. From a Woolley cross

Bobby-Joe Taylor fired over the bar and Hilliard carved out two further openings bringing a good save from Kennedy but then seeing a fierce shot blocked with the keeper beaten following a Taylor corner that was not cleared. Matlock sent on a couple of substitutes hoping to capture more of the play but with St Neots growing in confidence much of the play was towards the home goal. A lengthy effort from Dave Deeney passed the wrong side of a post and St Neots then sent on two attacking substitutes Lewis Wilson and Joe N’Guessan to try to find the equaliser they deserved. As often happens when a side is dominating the opposite effect happens and two minutes from time in a very rare Matlock visit to the St Neots penalty area a James Ashmore cross eluded the back peddling defence and the ball fell kindly for Danny Holland who wrapped up his sides’ place in the third round draw with a crisp finish. St Neots had the last word deep in added time as substitute Lewis Wilson brought the save of the match from Kennedy who pushed the ball over the bar but by then it would not have mattered.

Having started his career at Luton Town his last club was Kettering Town where he was very impressive in the games against us. A very strong center half, Dan impressed in pre-season and seems to have made the position his own.

GREENIES GREETINGS

Thank You and Good Luck Iain Mike Green Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen and welcome to Rowley Park – The Cozy Stadium, for today’s Calor League Premier Division.

I’d just like to publicly thank Iain for everything he has helped the Club achieve in the past 18 months and wish him Good Luck for all the things he will be looking to push on over the coming months. Today we extend a very warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of Hemel Hempstead Town FC and we hope you have an enjoyable, if brief, stay with us this afternoon, before embarking on a safe journey home after the game. I’m sure you’re all aware by now that Manager Iain Parr has stepped down from the First Team Manager’s post to concentrate on the Youth and Development side of things here at the Club and has taken up the offer of a place on the Board of Directors, so I’d just like to publicly thank Iain for everything he has helped the Club achieve in the past 18 months and wish him Good Luck for all the things he will be looking to push on over the coming months.

At the time of writing, the new management team has not yet been unveiled but whoever comes in, they will no doubt be in charge for today’s game so please join me in giving them a fantastic reception and wishing them all the very best for the future here at The Cozy Stadium. Saturday saw the Lads put in a much improved performance up at Matlock Town in the FA Trophy and I personally think they were very unlucky not to have got something out of the game. After going behind early on, we managed to get a foot hold in the game and for a period in the second half, had our hosts on the rack as we went in search of the equaliser. The game effectively ended however when, as we pushed

forward, Matlock stole in and struck the killer blow and that was the end of our Trophy run for this season. Just got to mention the views around their ground too, pretty amazing, even though the weather was, shall we say, indifferent, to say the least and it’s not every day you have a castle overlooking one end of the ground. On to today’s game and Hemel Hempstead, The Tudors, arrive here in fine form and find themselves sitting in second place in the league table, just three points behind Chesham United, having played two games less than the Generals and having beaten North Greenford United 9-1 in the FA Trophy last Saturday and Premier Division basement side Bashley United 10-0 in league action on Tuesday evening. We say hello to two Ex Saints today too in the shape of Ollie Thorne and of course striker Ben Mackey. Hopefully both players will have off days today and who knows, teams on long runs of form have to de-rail at some stage, why not today? What a story that would make what with it being the new manager’s first game etc. As Christmas looms around the corner, don’t forget we have a range of stocking fillers including mugs, scarves and hats and also the range of official team clothing, so if you’re stuck thinking what to get your loved ones this festive season, have a look in our Merchandise Kiosk for the ideal gift. World Cup Final, Wembley Stadium, July 30, 1966 Wembley stadium provided the setting for the match that is for ever remembered for Geoff Hurst’s extra-time heroics and the histrionics of Soviet Union linesman Tofik Bakhramov. England could – and should – have won the match in regular time. They had recovered from conceding an early German goal from Helmut Haller, Hurst heading the equaliser from Bobby Moore’s quickly taken free-kick. But the German defence gave little away in the second half and only 13 minutes remained when Martin Peters scored to give England a 2-1 lead. As England hung on for the final whistle, Jack Charlton was adjudged, harshly, to have fouled on the edge of the box. The free-kick, blasted at the wall by Lothar Emmerich, fell to Wolfgang Weber, who shot past Gordon Banks’ desperate lunge. “You’ve won it once, now go and win it again,” England manager Alf Ramsey famously urged during the break before extra-time. “Look at them,” he said, pointing at the prostrate Germans, “they’re finished!”. England were fitter and

fresher, and Alan Ball found the energy to run on to a pass from Nobby Stiles. From his cross, Hurst’s shot on the turn hit the underside of the bar and bounced past keeper Hans Tilkowski. The goal was disputed by the Germans and Swiss referee Gottfried Dienst consulted Bakhramov, who pointed to the centre-spot. Hurst completed his hat-trick with virtually the final kick of the game. By then, there were people on the pitch, and England were world champions. Bakhramov went on to become general secretary of the newly formed Azerbaijan federation on the break-up of the Soviet Union. The Azeris’ national stadium, in the capital, Baku,

A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Gary Lineker Full name: Gary Winston Lineker   Date of birth: 30/11/1960 Like him or love him, there are few people who would say they don’t have a soft spot for Gary Linekar. He is not only a football legend but a national English treasure and the face of football on the BBC. Making Leicester famous for more than just crisps… Gary was spotted playing football by local team Leicester City when playing at 13 and he was invited to play for their youth team. When he was 16 Gary started playing full-time. At 18 he started playing for the first team and within a couple of professional years he was already starting to make a prolific name for himself, finishing each season with enough goals to place him up there with the other leading goal scorers in the then Division One. In 1984/85 season Gary finished as top goal-scorer with 24 and this prompted attention from the England international team. Ferry across to the Mersey Gary moved to Everton in 1985 and didn’t stop scoring for them either. He bagged a staggering 38 goals in only 52 games for The Toffees and finished top goal scorer again. During this period though it was when the rest of Europe started to become very tempted by such a deadly match-winner as Lineker and the skinny lad from Leicester soon fell onto the radar of the big boys from Spain. Big-ears goes to big club Barcelona called and Gary answered and in 1986 Lineker moved to Spanish giants Barcelona. In the same year Gary played in the Mexican World Cup and won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in the competition.

The Spaniards were rubbing their hands at the prospect of a repeat performance at the Nou Camp. Gary did it again and he netted 21 goals for Barca in only 41 games, including a hat-trick against arch rivals Real Madrid, which led him to cult status amongst the fans. He was becoming prolific and an absolute nightmare to defend against. With Lineker up-front Barcelona went on to win the UEFA Cup and the Copa del Rev but a fall out with Dutch legend Johan Cruiff, when he was suddenly moved out of position to the right-wing, spelt time at the Barca for golden-boot-Gary. Tottenham Hot-stuff Lineker passed on Manchester United’s generous offers and decided his return to English football would be with north London’s Tottenham Hotspur. It was here that Gary entered the peak of his form. From 105 games Gary scored in over half of them with a whopping 67 goals. He helped them win the FA Cup and, playing alongside Paul Gascoigne for most of it, he made Spurs a force to be reckoned with. Gary was voted third in the first ever FIFA World Player of the Year awards in 1991.

The Setting Sun of Japan One of the most unexpected transfer moves of all time came when Gary Lineker decided to move to Japan to play for Nagoya Grampus Eight. He was loved in Japan and, although he only played 23 games in the two seasons he was there, he still couldn’t resist scoring 9 more goals to add to his huge tally. Gary finished his club football career having never received a yellow or red card. He was the ultimate sportsman and the ultimate gentleman. He was one of the greatest examples of an England player we have ever seen and his goals for his country were some of the most crucial in history. We’re singing for England…. It began in 1984 against Scotland. It ended with 80 appearances and a staggering (but expected from Gary) 48 goals. There came a somewhat sad end to his England career when, in the Euro 92 tournament, new coach Graham Taylor subbed Lineker and prevented him from trying to beat Bobby Charton’s top goal scoring record. He was upset and didn’t play for England again.

Its always very difficult trying to find the right balance right through the club not only in players but in management as well, everyone has to have the same commitment and ambition otherwise it just cannot work.

like welcome our new Joint First Team managers Gary King and Zema Abbey and their Assistant manager Nathan Abbey to the club. Gary, Zema and Nathan have plenty of experience of football and players at this level and have worked as a team up until the end of last season for over 5 years, Where they took Arlesey Town from the Southern league central division to the brink of the play offs last season in the Premier Division. Unfortunately it was Gosport who secured that vital play off place by 1 point when beating us in that Final game of the season.

What a week we have had, just another day at the office I would say but as typical with me I was having a short break when Lee and Iain had a meeting about the development side of the club of which they both decided that more time and effort was needed on that side, and Iain trying to do that and manage the first team was going to be just too much for him.

Welcome to our visitors this afternoon for our next engagement in the Calor Southern League Premier Division.. They are the players, Directors and supporters of Hemel Hempstead Town FC and we extend to them our usual warm Cozy Stadium welcome. Our two sides have met five times in league and cup over the past dozen years and those five matches have produced no less than 28 goals. However by virtue of their victory over our lads at Vauxhall Road earlier this season Hemel lead 3-2 in the head to head count. Last season St Neots completed only three league ‘doubles’ in our first season at Step Three and one of our ‘victims’ was Hemel whom we defeated 6-1 at

home and 4-2 away. Ben Mackey who is likely to be in the Hemel side today will remember our double over his new side because he scored for St Neots at home in the 4-2 victory and followed that up with a hat trick at Hemel.

Club History Of the clubs that merged over the years to form the club as we know it today, the history of Apsley FC goes furthest back. Formed in 1885 as Apsley End FC, the club was based at Salmon Meadow and played

in a claret and blue strip. The first record of competitive football was in 1889, when the club entered the Herts Senior Cup. Apsley End were then one of the founding member clubs of the West Herts Football Association and entered their first league competition in 1891/92. Immediately following the second World War, the club showed a great improvement in form and consistency at this time but again only had a couple of runners up spots to show for it but the clubs name changed to Hemel Hempstead Town.

Did you know?... The history of Hemel Hempstead Town FC is a complex past, with mergers between local clubs and numerous name changes before finally settling as the club as it is known today. Of the clubs that merged over the years to form the club as we know it today, the history of Apsley FC goes furthest back. Formed in 1885 as Apsley End FC,

Hemel were quickly relegated to the Southern Western Division. A nail biting end to the 2005/6 season saw Hemel beat Brackley Town in the play-off final to secure promotion back to the Southern Premier Division at the first attempt. In 2006/2007, saw Hemel achieve a play-off position which could have seen the club promoted to the Conference South. However, the play-off semi-final away to Team Bath resulted in defeat. In the 2009/10 season Hemel ended up in a relegation position but were spared going down by the requirement of restructuring. During the summer of 2010, Hitchin manager Colin Payne was appointed the new Tudors manager in time for the 2010/11 season which saw the Tudors celebrate their 125 years in existence. The season started well but inconsistent form saw Hemel finish 15th in the league but last season they reached the play off final only to be beaten by Gosport Borough on penalties.

The last ten years has been very eventful for Hemel with various ground improvements, 2 league championships, a play-off final win, two automatic promotions, promotion through restructuring, and a relegation, not to mention seven changes of manager. The first task of the new Committee which

gained control of the club in 1997 were to change the name back to Hemel Hempstead Town FC By 2001 various ground improvements had led to a “B” grading for Vauxhall Road which made the club eligible for promotion. In 2004 following another 6th place finish, restructuring saw Hemel leave the Isthmian after nearly 30 years of competing in that league and for the first time Hemel started a season in the Southern League, competing in the Premier division.

Hemel didn’t set the Delphian League alight, finishing in the bottom two of the division on five occasions during eleven seasons. The clubs best finish in the Delphian League was as runners up in 1961/62. The Delphian League disbanded once the season finished in 1963 and the clubs formed Division Two of the Athenian League. In their opening season in the Athenian League, Hemel finished fifth in Division Two and were subsequently promoted to Division One due to restructuring. In 1964-65 Hemel finished as runners up in Division One, winning promotion to the Premier Division. Hemel only lasted three seasons in the Premier with a best finish of ninth in 1966 before two consecutive relegations saw Hemel start the 1969/70 season in Division Two, a level which Hemel remained for nearly 30 years! In the summer of 1972, Hemel Hempstead Town merged with Hemel Hempstead United, the new club took the simple name of Hemel Hempstead and made United’s Vauxhall Road ground as its home. In 1977, Hemel left the Athenian League to join the rapidly expanding Isthmian League, who boasted to be the south of England’s premier football league.

Who calls the shots?... Dean Brennan First Team Manager At the age of 29, Dean was appointed interim manager of Hemel Hempstead in March 2010 in a bid to avoid relegation after the sacking of previous incumbent Gary Phillips. Together with asst manager and Watford legend Luther Blissett, Dean went on to amass enough points in the remaining nine games that eventually saw Hemel Hempstead earn a reprieve to stay in the Premier Division as well as win the Hertfordshire Senior Cup and St Mary’s Cup.

GOALKEEPERS ALEX TOKARCZYK: Alex began his career with Hayes & Yeading Utd in 2008 at the age of 16 as part of the Football Education Development scheme, studying sports science at East Berkshire College. He also played for Crystal Palace Reserves at Loftus Road at the end of the 2008/09 season and for the Middlesex U18 side. LAURIE WALKER: Bedford born, Laurie began his footballing career with MK Dons before moving to Millwall and then Cambridge United. Laurie then joined Morecambe in 2010, making his debut against Macclesfield Town in the Football League Trophy. DEFENDERS KYLE CONNOLLY: Young left back, formerly with Arsenal and Boreham Wood. Joined Watford’s Academy in December 2011. Trailist with Hemel in pre-season and subsequently signed by Dean Brennan for the 2013/14 season. MOUSSA DIARRA: Tall central defender moved from France in the summer of 2011 and had trials with Tooting & Mitcham United before signing for Horley Town. Moussa then joined St Albans, scoring in his Southern League debut against Stourbridge in March 2012, and also scored a hat-trick against Barwell in October 2012. DAVID KING: Versatile player who can play centre midfield, centre back or right back. Signed professional forms for MK Dons in the summer of 2009 after graduating from the club’s academy where he had

captained the U18s in his final season as a trainee. Made his senior debut for the Dons when he came on as a substitute in the Carling Cup tie against Cardiff City in August 2008. Regarded as a tenacious and committed midfield/defensive player with good energy and passing ability. ANTHONY MAISIATT: Tall athletic centre-half began his career at Beaune Youth, before joining Ligue 2 Dijon FCO and then Ligue 1 club Evian-Thonon-Gaillard. Joins fellow Frenchman Moussa Diarra in the centre of defence. DANNY MAY: Signed for the Tudors in 2009. The popular right back made the most appearances last season for the Tudors playing no less than 54 games and scoring an impressive 5 goals. He was players’ player of the year for the 2011/2012 season and supporters’ player of the year in 2010/2011. His previous clubs include Wivenhoe & Enfield. He was also at Northampton Town for 3 yrs and Watford for 8 yrs. Danny signed a one year contract extension in May 2012. KIERAN MURPHY: Kingston-born Kieran started his career at MK Dons, where he made a handful of first team appearances, before quitting the professional game in 2008 to study at Loughborough University. During his studies he joined Conference North side Ilkeston Town, where he was promptly made club captain and awarded player of the year in his first season with the club as they won promotion to the Blue Square North. Kieran subsequently turned down an offer the following season

from David Holdsworth (who had originally signed Kieran for Ilkeston), manager of Blue Square Premier side Mansfield Town, to stay with Ilkeston. Has since featured for Boston United, Carshalton Athletic and Kingstonian. Kieran recently captained GBR to the World University Games final in July 2013, narrowly 2-3 losing to France. Kieran has also been capped by the Republic of Ireland at U21 level. RYAN PARSONS: Ryan Parsons has returned for a 2nd spell at the Tudors after spending just over a year at Windsor FC. The left back came through the youth setup at Wycombe Wanderers. Played in over 100 games in 2 spells for Windsor & Eton, also playing for Maidenhead United in between. Joined Hemel originally for the 2010/11 season before returning to newly formed Windsor FC as their captain. OLLIE THORNE: The tall and powerful defensive central defender/ midfielder started his career as a youth team player at MK Dons before being snapped up by Blue Square Bet Premier side Forest Green Rovers, who signed him up on a one year deal. He then moved on to Newport County before joining Kidderminster Harriers and then went on loan to Rushden & Diamonds before signing for Braintree Town. Ollie then joined Southern League Premier side Bedford Town in August 2011and last season played for St Neots and Arlesey Town, picking up a few goals in the process.

Lewis Toomey Striker Lewis originally signed for The Tudors from Kings Langley at the start of the 2010/11 campaign, scoring a hat-trick on his debut for the club. Loaned to Chalfont St Peter in March 2012 before signing for local rivals St Albans City in June 2012. Left the Saints to joining Boreham Wood in January 2013. Joined Hitchin Town in March 2013 on a dual registration and scored a hat-trick against his former club Hemel in April 2013. Re-signed for the Tudors in May 2013.

MIDFIELDERS

JAKE GILBERT: Jake signed for the Tudors in the summer of 2009. He is a tough tackling central midfielder who started his football with Aylesbury Youth and has played for Thurrock and Berkhamsted Town.

JORDAN PARKES: Made his league debut for Watford in August 2008 before captaining Watford U20s against Inter Milan with a side that included Hernan Crespo, Adriano, Walter Samuel and Olivier Dacourt. Upon release from Watford in June 2010, Jordan signed for Barnet where he went onto make 51 appearances before his contract expired. He joined Chelmsford City in August 2012 before leaving by mutual consent to join Hemel Hempstead Town FC.

RYAN PLOWRIGHT: Another player who has impressed during pre-season trials with Hemel. Versatile defender/midfielder who was formerly an MK Dons scholar. Signed for Cambridge United for the 2012/13 season before being loaned out to Banbury United in December 2012 and then recalled by Cambridge in April 2013 for the remainder of the season. DANNY TALBOT: Danny signed for the Tudors in November 2012 from local rivals Chesham United, where he was club captain. The midfielder previously played in the Football League for Rushden & Diamonds, and also had spells with Cambridge City and Potters Bar. Danny made 262 appearances for Chesham United over 5 years, scoring 35 goals. Excellent from set-pieces and a cultured left foot. Son of former Arsenal player Brian Talbot. STRIKERS GARETH CHENDLIK: Gareth was part of the youth section, playing for the U18s before going to university to study business, and has impressed in his pre-season

friendlies. He has all the attributes to be a high class striker and this is why the club have invested in his future. OLIVER HAWKINS: Striker who impressed during pre-season and subsequently signed by Dean Brennan and Stuart Maynard. Signs from Northwood FC whom he joined in March 2011 alongside manager Gary Meakin, then from Hillingdon Borough FC. Was named Northwood FC’s Supporters’ Player of the Year 2011/12 and Manager’s Player of the Year 2012/13 during which time he was golden boot winner for both seasons, scoring 19 goals in each season. BEN MACKEY: Began his career with Coventry City where he made 3 first-team appearances. Joined St Neots in December 2011 where his goals played a part in the Cambridgeshire club subsequently securing promotion. Scored 23 times in 2012/13 season before joining Stourbridge in March 2013 where he netted a further 8 times to secure 2nd spot in the Premier Division. CHARLIE MPI: Signed for the Tudors in May 2012. Seems to enjoy playing for former Hemel managers as together with Byron Walton (Beaconsfield), he also played the first part of the 2011/2012 campaign for Steve Bateman’s Slough Town. BEN PATTIE: 17 year old Ben has all the ingredients to make a top striker, he has a good outlook on his own development and if he can make the necessary improvements during the coming season then we can all expect big things of him.

DAVID HUTTON: David is a 23 year old attacking midfield player who began his footballing career with Tottenham Hotspur (2006-2009). On 15 July 2010, David joined Grimsby Town on trial and played in several Pre-Season Friendlies. After a brief spell with St. Albans City he agreed to join the Glenn Hoddle Academy and then signed with Spanish Club Jerez Industrial. David then joined Conference South club Boreham Wood in October 2011 before signing for the Tudors on 15 February 2013.

DAVID PEARCE: Joined Hemel in February 2011 after Windsor & Eton were dissolved. He made an immediate impact, scoring 3 goals in his first 4 games and has since established himself as a regular first team player. Can terrorise defences with his pace and quick feet. The midfield dynamo was the supporters’ player of the year, managers’ player of the year and golden boot winner for 2011/2012. Pearcey signed a year’s contract extension in May 2012.

ALEX CAMPANA: Right winger Alex Campana rejoined the Tudors in July 2012 after completing his studies at university. Alex began his football career at Watford FC Academy where he captained the U18’s and was a regular player in the reserves.

Gaffa Grief Ade Roberts It’s probably one of the best jobs you could possibly have, if things are going well. In contrast to that, when things are not going to plan, it must be a chore to get some sleep at night and a real constant worry. Of course, I’m referring to the job of the football manager. As a fan, you couldn’t want for a better job than being involved in the day-to-day running of the football club you hold close to your heart and being paid for your services would be an added bonus. It’s when times are tough, both on and off the field that panic would set in – wondering if you’ll still have that job in a month or so. The job of football manager may have its appeal but when things get ugly, it’s probably one of the loneliest jobs in the world. Not only are the board putting the pressure on you, but the fans [who last season cheered your name] now want your head on a silver platter and a replacement for you ASAP. The head on a platter could well have been the case for the Bulgarian side Levski Sofia’s new boss Ivaylo Petev recently when the Levski fans took it upon themselves to give a public display of their contempt for their clubs’ choice of new boss. During the first press conference involving the new gaffa, the fans humiliated their new coach in front of the cameras by removing the team shirt from his back in defiance of his appointment. They then escorted him out of the press conference, probably with a few choice swear words along the way – and why? – because the Levski fans believed Petev to be a fan of their arch rivals CSKA Sofia! He should have known better really shouldn’t he? Petev, as you imagine, has since left the club. That’s probably the shortest reign for any football manager ever! However,

Leroy Rosenior’s reign as Torquay United’s boss back in 2007 was quite short-lived. He held the post for a matter of minutes as the club was in the process of being taken over by a consortium. The chairman gave him the job initially but the new owners didn’t want Rosenior as gaffa so he was subsequently fired within minutes of taking over due to the take-over! It’s a tough job and broad shoulders should be one of the criteria required if that’s the path you choose in life. The Harry Rednapp comments about Roy Hodgson’s suitability as England manager provided great fodder for the media to make a meal of. We’ve also recently seen the controversial Gus Poyet return to management at Sunderland following his ‘grey cloud’ Brighton sacking last term. Who ultimately decides the fate of the football manager? The Chairmen, the board, and sometimes the fans play a part? However, it does seem that the media are the key players in the demise of the top clubs’ bosses. You only have to read the papers to see the book makers’

odds appearing on the sports pages on “who goes next”. The current favourite within the Premier League to ‘bite-the-bullet’ is Ian Holloway at Crystal Palace. Perhaps by the time you read this, he, along with probably a host of other football managers are now unemployed. It’s the nature of the job I guess. The likes of Ian Holloway may feel under pressure and aggrieved by their current situation but they should take a look further down the pyramid and put themselves in the shoes of Dorchester Town boss Phil Simkin, who at the age of 60, recently considered registering himself as a player in their game against Dover because of the club’s cash problems and their need to put the entire team up for sale in order to reduce the wage bill by 50%. Let’s give it 100% today and get behind the Gaffa and the boys so that we can enjoy the results of their labour.

MANAGING DIRECTOR’S VIEWS

A Little Less Conversation Lee Kearns A little less conversation, a little more action is what’s required I guess. None of this yesterday Man it’s all about the future and how we go about taking the club forward. Oh Boy I hear you say here you go again pretending that it’s all a wonderful world and its all good times with the club. I like to stay positive because that’s the only way to travel along the long and winding road to get back to where we all want to be. Don’t let me down by thinking nothing has been achieved because I feel fine at where we are at the moment (just about) and anyway we all know what it’s like to work eight days a week just to gain a little ground. You try and put things into place to ensure that revenue streams are constant and ongoing (opportunities lets make lots of money for the club) and are not short term. Don’t get me wrong clearly we still have a way to go but if we remain Hungry like the wolf for success and keep pushing, keep on moving and Keep feeling fascination for the club we will get there. You may consider these the sentiments of a rambling man (a fools overture as it were) or someone trying to give you a reason to believe in what we are doing however I’m not one to live in a pastime paradise hence I can only look forward so like me don’t look back in anger. Steppin out onto the pitch is what we have all dreamt of doing at some time of our lives so let’s hear it for the boys when they emerge from the tunnel. You’re the voice that can make the difference so show a little patience and hopefully it won’t take long for the new faces to get into the groove, to all come together. Christmas Parties are booking fast so if you want to come on down and feel the noise please contact Lou on 01480 470012 she still has some dates left.
