The squad is beginning to look strong and I felt on Tuesday that it’s beginning to believe in itself as well as believe in the new management team. Indeed, a result here today against St Albans would, for me, underline a good start for everybody involved since the change and my feeling is that the players efforts certainly deserve that.

The changes we made in order to both have a good look at other players within the squad as well as rest some weary legs worked very well for us. The players who came in on the night all played well and contributed to, as I said earlier, what was for me the most controlled and disciplined 90 minute performances since my arrival. What’s great about this is coming into today’s game, Zema, Nathan and myself have some selection headaches which we are pleased about. The squad is beginning to look strong and I felt on Tuesday that it’s beginning to believe in itself as well as believe in the new management team. We, the management team, came away from Tuesdays game feeling positive and whilst the recent run of games that we have had have all been tough fixtures, overall I am pleased with how we have come through them in terms of our overall team performance the way we have gone about our business and the determination shown by individuals.

Tuesday night’s performance against Corby was a pleasing one. Unfortunately those of you who may have watched the England game instead will have missed what was our most controlled and disciplined 90 minute performances since my arrival at St Neots. Zema, Nathan and myself were all delighted in the way in which we won this game. A very solid performance which limited Corby to very few efforts; indeed, their first attempt on goal came after 32 minutes. Whilst being solid and assured at the back, our build up play was patient and over the course of 90 minutes we scored 3 as well as hitting the woodwork on 3 occasions.

St Neots recorded their biggest ever Southern League victory and their best home tally since hitting ten goals past Desborough thirteen months ago. Chertsey were the other side promoted to the Central Division this season and they arrived at St Neots as the third highest aggregate scorers in the Division but they never looked like adding to their tally in what was a very one sided contest. The final score could have been even greater but for some great goalkeeping by Chertsey stopper Nathan Silver and some disappointing finishing late in the game. St Neots had to make two enforced changes at full back due to injury and suspension and they must have been delighted with 17 years old Max Avory making his full league debut and new signing Michael Ricketts. The result propelled St Neots back up to fourth place in the table with matches in hand of the three sides ahead of them. St Neots made a slow start with David Johnston clipping the crossbar with Chertsey’s first effort on goal. However once St Neots settled into their rhythm their attacking play was awesome. After nine minutes a sweet through pass split the visiting defence and Stefan Moore finishing with a low angled drive and two minutes later another Moore effort was only parried and Dan Jacob was on hand for St Neots second goal. Within sixty seconds it was 3-0 with Lewis Hilliard crossing to the unmarked Shane Tolley at the far post and the visitors looked in complete disarray. After 21 minutes Moore and Tolley combined with some short one touch passing and the ball was squared for Lewis Hilliard to score meaning all four front St Neots players were on the score sheet. Moore could have added to the tally but his chip beat both the keeper and the crossbar and then

still before the break Hilliard brought an outstanding save from the busy Silver. A storming start to the second half brought three more St Neots goals in a magic seven minutes spell. After 48 minutes Shane Tolley took his season’s league and cup goal tally to ten set up unselfishly by Hilliard and then two minutes later in almost a carbon copy of his first half goal Dan Jacob netted again after a Moore effort was parried by Silver. After 55 minutes Stefan Moore nipped in at the near post to convert a Tolley cross and maintain his leading scorer’s tag with his twelfth goal of the campaign and it looked certain that more goals would follow. However the introduction of substitutes Neil Mackenzie, Lewis Webb and Pearson Mwanyongo saw a reshuffle of the side and the momentum dropped for a spell. Then towards the end of the match Michael Duggan distinguished himself with a brilliant save to deny Ian Selley and Chertsey a consolation goal whilst Moore, Tolley and the impressive Mwanyongo should all have further increased the lead. However the consolation (apart from the three points) was that St Neots showed that when in the right mood they can create scoring chances at will. St Neots returned pointless after a fours hours trip to Poole but gave a reasonable team performance against an improving side that has only been beaten in the league once this season. The host side was well organised and very competitive especially in defence where they seemed able to block most of St Neots shots on goal. St Neots made two changes from their midweek match at home to Biggleswade bringing in Arthur Lee and recent signing Ryan Frater in defence and reshaping their side with the versatile Ben Ford given a wide midfield berth. However the changes made little difference with both of the Poole goals coming from avoidable defensive errors. Too many St Neots attacking moves broke down on the edge of their opponents penalty area and they also found it difficult to deal defensively with the ‘route one’ attacking approach of their hosts. The victory lifted Poole into the play off places in the Premier Division and they look well placed at present for a fourth promotion up the pyramid in just five seasons. Next up in the league for St Neots is a visit from St Albans who captured some of the weekend headlines as they defeated Conference outfit Chelmsford in the FA Trophy away from home. Ford had the first direct shot at goal with an effort that went across the face of goal but it was the home side who looked livelier in attack with Niall Conroy have to save from Michael

Charles and Carl Preston in the first nine minutes. After 13 minutes Poole forged ahead as Preston showed fleet of foot down the left flank and although his cross was met by a defensive header the ball fell to Dan Cann and he netted from ten yards. Matt Nolan saw home keeper Nick Hutchings save a volley and then the same St Neots player was brought down on the edge of the box near the bye line but the free kick was wasted. St Neots tried hard to set up attacking movements but they found the Poole central defenders in dominating form both in the air and on the ground and the nearest St Neots got was a run by Jake Woolley that ended with him being booked for allegedly diving. So there was little to choose between the sides at the break although Poole had shaded possession. St Neots were upset two minutes after the restart when skipper Gavin Hoyte was booked for what looked a very innocuous 50/50 challenge in midfield and when Conroy failed to hold the ball four minutes later Marvin Brooks nipped behind the defence to make it 2-0. Now St Neots play became ragged for a spell although a Ford free kick from 25 yards clipped the cross bar with Hutchings beaten. Ed Adjei replaced

Ford and his added pace seemed to inspire St Neots as Nolan shot across goal after good work by Woolley. Poole got the ball in the net a third time from a Steve Devlin cross to the far post but Will Petch’s effort was ruled out for a push on a defender. Conroy redeemed himself for his earlier mistake as he produced the save of the match to deny Cann but St Neots was running out of ideas and picked up two more bookings for frustrated challenges. It was overall a disappointing result but with the two new defenders bedding in better as the match progressed there is optimism that competing well with one of the best sides they have faced this season is another step in the right direction. after thirty two minutes but Conroy was equal to the strike from Nathan Fox and pushed the ball away for a corner. Corby created the first chance of the second half as Chris Carruthers and Nathan Fox combined but Arthur Lee cleared the danger from inside his own six yard box. The first goal of the night came from Jay Davies, who forced the ball home after Ed Adjeiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s cross from the left had been headed back across goal by Lewis Hilliard. Hilliard was central as Saints continued to create further goal scoring chances, firstly being denied by Carpenterâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s feet after Ryan Sharman and Jay Davies had combined to create the opportunity, then hitting the woodwork for the second time in the match from a full thirty yards. Saints doubled their lead after seventy one minutes after turning defence in to attack. A Corby corner was cleared from the edge of his own box by Hilliard, who found Adjei with his clearance and he made ground down the left flank before laying a perfectly weighted ball across goal for Lewis Hilliard who had sprinted the length of the field to strike the ball past Carpenter. Kaine Felix replaced Hilliard immediately after the goal and just three minutes later he dispossessed captain

Gareth Jellyman to create a chance for Lewis Wilson, and although Carpenter got a hand to his shot he could not prevent the ball crossing the line for Saints third goal. Tom Wood was introduced to the game in place of Saints captain Gavin Hoyte after seventy five minutes but the new look central defence of Dan Crowie, who had earlier replaced Ryan Frater, and Arthur Lee who moved from left back, never looked troubled and Saints nearly added a fourth three minutes from time when Adjei once again beat his full back but his cross just evaded Wilson as it flew across the face of the goal. On a bitterly cold evening, St Neots started the better of the two sides and created the opening chances with Lewis Wilson just missing the target after meeting a Lewis Hilliard cross, and then Hilliard himself forcing a finger tip save from keeper Josh Carpenter who kept his goal bound effort out with the aid of his right hand post. Lewis Wilson was presented with a further chance after twenty minutes but only managed to find the side netting from a tight angle after a defensive slip, and as St Neots continued to press Ryan Frater met a Ben Ford corner but his effort just cleared the bar. Corby failed to test Niall Conroy in the opening half an hour, with Gavin Hoyte and Ryan Frater at the heart of the Saints defence dealing effectively with the Corby strikers and their only goal bound effort from Nathan Fox was easily gathered by the Saints keeper. Ben Ford was instrumental in St Neots coming out on top in the midfield battle winning numerous 50-50 challenges and St Neots always looked the more likely side to score with Hilliard again testing Carpenter from outside the box and then Gavin Hoyte having a header cleared off the line by Charlie Binns after another Ford corner. Assured Performances Mike Green Good afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen and welcome to Rowley Park – The Cozy Stadium, for today’s Calor League Premier Division game.

Our support has been back to it’s vocal best recently so let’s carry this on today and really get behind the boys. Today we extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of St Albans City FC and we hope you all enjoy your brief stay with us before making a safe journey back into Hertfordshire this evening. Two games for us to look back on this week starting with our trip down to the Dorset coast as we looked to end Poole Town’s unbeaten home run this season. Unfortunately, we came away on the end of a 2-0 defeat but we made our hosts work very hard for the three points. A reasonable sized travelling support watched on and I’m sure the majority would agree that they were probably one of the best sides we’ve faced

this season behind Chesham United. Saturday marked Arthur Lee’s debut in his second spell with the Saints and of course, it was Ryan Frater’s full debut too after his transfer from Arlesey Town last week so please join me in welcoming the Big Man to the Club and hope you enjoy a successful spell here with us. Tuesday evening saw us progress into the third round of the Red Insure Cup (Southern League Cup), as we gained revenge for our recent 3-0 home league defeat at the hands of Corby Town by beating the Steelmen by the same scoreline at a very chilly Rowley Park. I’m pretty sure that most of the 93

hardly souls who braved the cold will have been warmed up by what was a very good performance by what was a greatly changed team with Nolan, Woolley and Deeney all being rested and Brett Longden making his debut at right back with a very assured performance. Lewis Wilson would go on to lead the line superbly and notch his first goal at The Cozy Stadium for the Saints with Jay Davies and Lewis Hilliard scoring the other two goals. It was nice to see us keep a clean sheet too and a big well done to the defence and Niall in between the sticks for almost faultless showings. Finally a big well done to Ryan Sharman who played the full 90 minutes in his preferred centre mid role and he actually ended the game wearing the skipper’s armband after Gavin was rested late on. A nice home draw in the next round would be lovely, fingers crossed for that. Last Thursday saw the Under 18’s play Thurlow Nunn Youth League Western Division whipping boys Blackstones here at The Cozy Stadium and the lads put them to the sword with a 6-1 win with Jordan Brown (2), Luke Day(2), Blake Rivers and Sam Williams scoring the goals. Monday evening saw their scheduled game at Huntingdon Town postponed due to deteriorating pitch conditions so their next game should be here next Thursday when they play Huntingdon Town. Ok then, on to today’s game and it’s sure to be a cracker. Our support has been back to it’s vocal best recently so let’s carry this on today and really get behind the boys. World Cup Semi-Final, La Pontaise Stadium, Lausanne, June 30, 1954 The 1954 World Cup final between Hungary and West Germany has been dubbed the Miracle of Berne and is a milestone in the history of post-war Germany. But the semi-final between Hungary, the best team in the world at that time, and defending champions Uruguay was the most exciting game of the tournament. And this despite both teams being without a key player – Ferenc Puskas for Hungary, Obdulio Varela for Uruguay. Uruguay came from 2-0 down to take the game into extratime. Hungary scored early through left-winger Zoltan Czibor’s volley, then Nandor Hidegkuti added another with a diving header. Juan Hohberg, a naturalised Argentinian, then hit back twice, though he was knocked unconscious as teammates celebrated his second goal. Juan Schiaffino hit a post for Uruguay in extra-time and the South Americans were to experience further bad luck when defender Victor Andrade was injured and forced to the sidelines for treatment. A BLAST FROM THE PAST

Denis Law Date of birth: 24/02/1940 Denis Law was born on February 24th 1940 in Aberdeen, Scotland, to parents Robina and George. He was the son of a fisherman and youngest of seven brothers. The family was so poor that all his shoes had been handed down and his first pair of boots were a second-hand gift from a neighbour. From a young age he was obsessed with football, spending all his money on watching Aberdeen or smaller local teams play. He disappointed his parents when he turned down a place at a grammar school, as they would have had him playing rugby rather than his beloved sport. He played for his school and showed excellent promise from a young age, soon being picked up by the Scottish Schoolboy’s team. He moved on to play for Huddersfield Town relatively soon after and went on to play for a string of internationally recognised clubs. His achievements and following were such, that the parents of Dutch star, Dennis Bergkamp, named their child after Law. He eventually retired after a glorious career when a recurring knee injury hindered his play to the extent that no club were prepared to take him on for the price tag requested by his final team, Manchester United. He is now recognised as one of the greatest Scottish players in the history of football. Career Overview Law was signed to Huddersfield Town in 1955 after a rather uninspiring trial where he was mocked for his small build and poor eyesight that forced him to squint. He underwent correctional surgery that allowed him to play with both eyes open and this not only improved his skills on the ball but also gave him the self-confidence to shine as one of the team’s most inventive young players. He was the youngest player to be signed for the team at

fifteen. The team were relegated to the second division and he made his début aged sixteen on Christmas Eve 1956, in a 2-0 win against Notts County. Various offers were made for him during his early years and when his manager left to go to Liverpool, the team could not afford his rising transfer fee. In 1958 he made his international début, scoring against Wales and was signed to Manchester City for a record breaking £55,000 in 1960. Law played an important part in City retaining their place in the First Division, and many thought that he had perhaps made the wrong decision in moving to Manchester City. His performance in international fixtures was slightly less inspiring, and Scotland suffered some massive defeats in the early 60s. Disappointed by the way his career in England was progressing, he transferred to the Italian team Torino, in the hope of earning more. He struggled to adapt to the style of play on the Continent and as pay was adjusted according to how many goals were scored, he did not reap financial rewards he had hoped for either. After suffering minor injuries in a car accident with fellow footballer Joe Baker, who came off far worse, Law returned to Manchester. He was signed for another record sum, this

time a staggering £115,000 on 18th August 1962. It was with Manchester United that his career really picked up and he began to achieve what he had always hoped for. He created and scored countless goals, his speed and agility and strength in the air soon making him a keen favourite of the fans. He scored in the FA Cup Final in 1963 against Leicester City. The following season Law scored 28 goals for Manchester United, making him the top scorer in the league. His career was dotted with pay disputes with managers, but these were mostly dealt with amicably, in order to maintain club stability and appease the press. His international career never reached the same heights as his achievements at Manchester United, but he scored several important goals against Scotland’s closest rival, England. Law played his final league games with Manchester City, and famously scored his final goal for them which relegated Manchester United, his previous club. Mike Kearns Welcome to the Officials, Players and Supporters of St Albans City FC. (the other Saints) I hope you enjoy your stay with us. The last four games have shown much improvement but with differing results. That is to be expected when you have a whole new management team come in. They have their own ways of doing things and ideas of the players they will need to improve our squad.

That’s what we are aiming for strength in depth.

We have this week signed a new Goalkeeper in our Assistant Manager Nathan Abbey. Many have asked just why Nathan has not played for us yet, well the answer is that we had a very delicate situation with Arlesey Town, and had to negotiate the release of his playing contract from Arlesey of which after many discussions between myself and the Arlesey Chairman we finally came to an agreement on a transfer /

After todays game we then move onto matches against teams around us in the league and hopefully start moving up the league table. We will do this and have plenty of points to play for until the end of the season. I was looking at the teams around us and just whom they have played in the top five. Well I can see that we have played most games against those teams so maybe things will start to take shape a little for us in the league table. As always it seems in this league that any team on its day can beat any other team so we will give it all we have in each game and start to climb the table. Lastly I say to all of our current players who ever you may be. Believe me as I have got to know our new management team very well; you are all playing for your place in the squad. And once you have achieved that you will be doing the same all over again every week. We have real ambition, we always have, and I firmly believe that the

structure of our club is now complete right through the club. It’s all there now and it’s just a matter of reaping the rewards of all our efforts this past few seasons. Time will tell but I now feel very comfortable with our club for the first time since I took ownership of it. I look at our last away match against Poole Town and was speaking to their chairman about the home gates they were getting considering their facilities are probably the worst in the league. He said ‘I know but with the following we have and the revenue that creates we have a real chance to improve our facilities, and coupled with our wonderful support will give us every chance to move us up the leagues.” I said to him “I would like to think that St Neots are a little nearer to that as everything is in place, we just need more supporters through the turnstiles”. So I say again, “Bring a mate and double the gate”. Now is that not an incentive for every one of us.

As Gary said to me a couple of weeks ago before we played Hemel, Biggleswade and Poole what would I take from those three games. Well I said three draws and three points would give us a nice start after all the changes we have gone through. Well that’s just what we got three points, it does not matter how you get them as long as you do. This was followed by a very good win in the Red Insure Cup match against Corby Town a reverse from the score line of a couple of weeks ago. Yes of course we would have liked to have league points on the board but it does show the progress being made.

Welcome to our visitors this afternoon for our next engagement in the Calor Southern League Premier Division. They are the players, Directors and supporters of St Albans City and we extend to them our usual warm Cozy Stadium welcome. St Albans were in ninth place in the table when these notes were penned with an away league record that showed two wins, two defeats and two losses and last Saturday they were due to be in National Cup action again with a testing Third Round Qualifying trip to Chelmsford City of

the Conference South. We hope they were successful and have reached a further tie in the First Round Proper. This afternoon our lads will be looking to extend a 100% record in matches against our visitors whom we beat twice in last season’s league encounters. That was only one of three league ‘doubles’ recorded by us last season although none of the four scorers of our goals then are still with the club.

The punishment was handed down to City chairman John Gibson and then vice chairman Alasdair McMillin during a Regulatory Hearing at the Association’s offices at Wembley, and was in relation to alleged illegal payments to players, described by the FA as financial irregularities, by the club during the 2008–09 season. St. Albans appealed, but the original decision was upheld. St. Albans were relegated on 9 April 2011 after losing 4–0 to Ebbsfleet United, they played in the Southern League Premier Division in season 2011/12 where they finished eighth and eleventh the following season. St Albans has groomed several well known characters in football for their distinguished careers amongst them Barry Fry, Ian Dowie, Dave Bassett and Craig Mackail-Smith. City’s most famous match was on 22 November 1922 in a first round FA Cup match. Having been held by Dulwich Hamlet to a 1–1 draw at Clarence Park on 18 November, the replay drew a gate of 4,060. City’s New Zealand-born goalkeeper W. Tennant did not appear, his place taken by Alf Fearn who was usually a half-back with the reserves. Dulwich put eight goals past him, the winning goal coming in near darkness at the end of extra time. What put the game in the record books was that City scored seven times, with all seven goals being scored by Wilfred Minter. His feat remains the highest tally by a player on the losing side of an FA Cup tie.

A move to the Athenian League heralded the start of the Saints halcyon days as that championship was won twice in three years paving the way for election to the Isthmian League. St Albans City won the Isthmian at the first attempt and followed it with two further successes before the decade was out. City remained in the Isthmian League until 2003 but never again did the title return to Clarence Park. Despite finishing just three points clear of relegation from the Premier Division of the Isthmian League in 2003–04, the Saints secured a place in the Conference South on the back of remarkable 4–3 and 5–4 Play-Off victories at Heybridge Swifts and Bedford Town respectively. The 2005–06 Conference South season then kicked off with two consecutive defeats but they went on to finish as runners up but successfully claimed a place in the Conference by overcoming Histon in the Play-Off final in front of 3,175 spectators at Stevenage. St Albans started the second half of the 2006-07 season just one place off the relegation zone. On 9 April 2007 (Easter Monday), a 1–1 draw with Tamworth guaranteed St Albans relegation from the Conference and the team finished bottom of the table. Who calls the shots?... Graham Golds & James Gray Joint first Team Managers The pair impressed as caretaker managers following the sacking of David Howell. Back-to-back wins over Leamington and Bedworth United strengthened their case and earned them the chance to take over on a permanent basis. James and Graham have formed a great working partnership and have proved popular and successful managers of the St Albans City Under-18 mid-week youth team. Gray is also club captain while Golds has played for the Reserves in the past.

Experienced midfielder who has returned to football following a spell out of the game. Signed for the Saints in the close season, having impressed with his eye for goal. Best known for his time at Wealdstone, he has also appeared for Hayes, Hemel Hempstead Town, Northwood and Flackwell Heath.

Returned to Clarence Park for a second spell in December 2012 after an injury hit first half of the season with Kettering Town. Previously with Crystal Palace, where he made six First team appearances, and Canvey Island.

Elliott Bailey A free-scoring striker with St Albans City Youth who has also scored for the Reserves and senior side. Previously with Boreham Wood Youth, Harvesters (a St Albans youth team) and played for the AFA representative side. Paul Bastock Goalkeeper who needs little introduction, ‘Bazza’ rejoined the club this summer to commence his third spell at Clarence Park. A veteran of over 1000 appearances for 9 different clubs he began his career at Coventry City and was a member of their FA Youth Cup winning side in 1987. After being released he signed for Cambridge United but it was when he joined Boston United in 1992 that the legend began and he went on to make 674 appearances for them in two spells. Lee Chappell Cultured left back who moved to Clarence Park from Wealdstone during the close season having made 361 appearances for the Middlesex club. Made the Ryman League Team of the Year last season and has also appeared for Ware.

Tom Coulton Goalkeeper who was with Arsenal and Barnet as a youngster and spent most of 2012-13 with Leverstock Green. Made his City debut with an excellent display in the Herts Charity Cup final win over Bishop’s Stortford in April 2013. Layne Eadie A product of the club’s academy scheme and one-time member of a successful St Albans City Midweek Youth side, he spent a season at St Neots Town before rejoining the Saints prior to the start of last season. A left-sided defender who likes to attack and has genuine pace. Richard Graham Left-sided midfielder who joined St Albans City during the summer of 2012 from Conference South side Dartford. Born in Newry he made two appearances for Queens Park Rangers before moving into the non-league game with Chesham United, Billericay Town, Kettering Town, Barnet (49 Football League appearances), Dagenham & Redbridge, Grays Athletic and Eastleigh. Voted Supporters Club Player of the Season last year. Danny Green Signed for the Saints in the close season after impressing at full-back

Groundhog Day Ade Roberts We all know that as fans we are prohibited from encroaching onto the playing area and risk arrest should we dare to do so. t’s normally during or after a big match that we’re tempted to jump over and celebrate with the players, to feel that lush turf under our feet. Obviously the best pitches belong to the bigger clubs and the lower down the football pyramid you go, the less chance you have of seeing the perfectly pruned pitch. Having said that, there are pitches outside of the football league which wouldn’t look out of place right up there with those of the big boys. Groundsmen up and down the country do a sterling job to maintain our pitches but sometimes mother-nature can be cruel and make their job an unenviable task. What was refreshing to see recently in the ‘Metro’ newspaper was a full page spread advertisement for Capital One, offering readers the chance to upload photos of a football pitch in their local area that needs some TLC and the chance to win £75,000 to improve their nominated pitch. Now, if like me, you thought about nominating your local rivals for their ‘dump’ of a ground just for a laugh, before you do it, think again, if they were to win the 75k you’d be well miffed to see them getting a cash injection as a result of your little prank. It’s great to see a company wanting to give something back to football isn’t it? Imagine if each of the Premiership clubs gave a tiny fraction of money to clubs at grass-roots level each season, what a difference that would make to the smaller clubs. Capital One are already heavily involved in football sponsorship with the league cup having previously been club sponsors of Nottingham Forest in the past. They forked out over 20 million pounds for their 4 year sponsorship deal of the league cup but still want to do more with

Obviously, their ultimate aim with the sponsorship and these adverts is to sign up more of us for credit cards, that’s their business after all, but it’s good to see them trying to help out the minnows rather than pump a wedge of cash into clubs that are already well-off. Most of us have played on a dodgy pitch at some point. I don’t just mean a sloping uneven, rutted puddle ridden swamp. I’m talking about a pitch strewn in broken glass, dog muck, syringes and bricks! This is where the pitch inspection is not just to check if it’s waterlogged, this is to ensure you won’t end the game with a doe of Hepatitis! Did you see the recent news about Soudley AFC whose pitch is on the edge of the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire? Their pitch has been ruined recently, but not by mother-natures cruel British weather, this quagmire of a pitch has been caused by wild boars digging up their playing surface! The wild boars leave the Forest nearby, break through the fences around the ground and dig it up looking for bugs and worms to eat

leaving it looking like a ploughed field. Fortunately, Soudley have been offered help from other local teams until their pitch is restored so at least they can continue to compete in their league. The Capital One money on offer would certainly be

a welcome boost to Soudley AFC right now! Perhaps they could use the money to fix the pitch and then possibly they could invest some in a spit-roast oven, some apple sauce and stuffing?? Thankfully, our pitch is playable today……so let’s make ourselves heard…….let the fun begin!

St Neots Town FC in Partnership with Norwich City FC To Identify, Recruit and Develop young footballers. Apprenticeship Programme Educational Partners-Onside Sport-Ernulf-Longsands St Neots Town FC Apprenticeship opportunities is open to 16-18 year old boys and girls Education Partners-Further Educational opportunities We are continuing to look at ways that we can improve the way in which we deliver our Apprenticeship Programme for 2014-2015 and as such we are in the process of putting a partnership in place with Ernulf / Longsand’s with the sole aim of being able to offer extra academic studies for those students who wish to join the Apprenticeship Programme but are looking for a stronger educational curriculum to follow. These studies will be in addition to the apprenticeship Btec/NVQ and not in place off. We also offer the chance to coach Football and to gain you’re coaching Badges at significantly reduced costs and we are also constantly looking at opportunities to work with businesses and individuals who will enhance or add something to what we deliver. The St Neots Town FC Apprenticeship programme is another piece of the jigsaw puzzle that we have been working on for the last 18 months. This together with our Grass Roots and development arm

(St Neots Town Youth/Saints which have teams from U7’s-U21’s) will form the bases of our commitment to develop young footballers and give those that can the opportunity to progress but also being mind full that football should be for all hence the commitment to Grass Roots football as well. We are also looking into other development options for those students that want to take any other path that would benefit from using our great facility in Partnership with Ernulf and Longsands.

We currently have 2 players at the Norwich City C.O.E and 1 player at the Norwich City Academy.

Opportunities

The Apprenticeship Programme football syllabus has been structured to ensure that not only are the footballers being coached to the very highest standards they are also part of a two year educational programme that will, once passed, allow them to go onto University level education. This is a paid apprenticeship, working to a flexible 16hr week based at Rowley Park under our development umbrella.

The Norwich City FC Centre of excellence Hub commenced on the 18th Sept at Rowley Park (Our Home) with the sole aim of developing potential stars of the future. Norwich City FC Head of recruitment Gregg Broughton has been very active in helping us to set up our apprenticeship programme and has a vested interest in how it develops. We are also actively working with Stevenage Town FC, Luton Town FC and Cambridge Utd FC to ensure that we have all the right contacts to help the progression of talented Players.

Not everyone we take into the apprenticeship programme will become the next football superstar so it is important that we as a club insure the individual development of these lads matches the potential they have as people who will embark on careers that may take them away from football. Each apprentice is individual and as such will all be treated in a way that acknowledges this fact. We are not only interested in nurturing footballers we are also interested in nurturing well rounded people.

There’s never a dull moment supporting your favourite team, the beautiful game has been kicking around for years but will always throw up some lunacy! Check these beauties out! Ridiculous? A Record That Will Never Be Beaten? Ex-soccer star Leroy Rosenior was appointed boss of a struggling club - then sacked after ten minutes. The former West Ham and Fulham striker broke the record for English football’s shortest managerial reign after being introduced with a fanfare by Torquay United, reports The Sun. Sports journalists were summoned to a press conference which finished at 3.30pm. Then - at 3.40pm Leroy was told by the chairman that the Devon club had been sold to a business consortium. And that meant he was out. Leroy, 43 said,

‘For it to happen ten minutes after I finished the press conference was a bit of a shock. But we had a good laugh about it afterwards.’ Leroy smashed the previous record for the shortest time as manager - Dave [Harry] Bassett’s 72 hours at Crystal Palace in 1984. He joked, ‘Obviously they thought I had done a fantastic job after ten minutes and let me go.’ The post was Leroy’s second stint at Torquay, who will face next season in the Conference after finishing bottom of the Football League. He was boss between 2002 and 2006 when he left by mutual consent. Since then the club has been in a managerial crisis, with four different bosses in the hot seat. Leroy added, ‘I wish them the very best of luck. They are going to sort me out a bit of compensation.’

Goran Granic Looses His Bite

A Croatian football star says his team are losing matches because he can no longer commit fouls since finding God.

Hajduk Split defender Goran Granic has come in for a storm of criticism for abandoning his trademark hard tackles on opponents. But Granic has now revealed his Catholicism is behind his softer style of play. He told daily newspaper Slobodna Dalmacija, ‘I’m so devoted to God now that I have started to avoid committing fouls during matches. God has created football for fun and relaxation. He would not like players to commit harsh fouls.’ He added, ‘I could probably have saved some key goals during the season, including in the Champions League qualifying games, if I had committed fouls to stop players scoring.’ Hajduk Split are reigning Croatian champions but this season they failed to qualify for the Champions League and are currently fifth in the Croatian league.
