s we wave goodbye to August (we´ll miss you Starlite and people gazing at the Polo) rather than getting too nostalgic at Marbella Rocks Towers we are celebrating calmness over chaos as we roll into September! No ridiculous supermarket queues, driving through the San Pedro tunnel at more than 5 km/ph and us ladies, glowing not sweating! There´s still lots of fun to be had this month, however. Just take the launch of new nightclub Mosaic, a mammoth 24-hour charity DJ set at Puro Beach and an all year round ice-skating rink in San Pedro. Who´d have thought it?! If some of you are feeling the over excesses of summer, we are pleased to provide answers to your health and exercise conundrums in the Key to Fat Loss by columnist Peet and a guide to Conditioning your Core Strength by Jojo. Following on the fitness theme, we give you the ultimate guide to the Rugby World Cup 2015, where we´ve left no stone unturned. Who are the main contenders, matches to watch, who is in with a fighting chance? Hopefully England as they are playing on home ground! Plus, we have an overview of the World Cup from professional rugby player, Martin “Chariots” Offiah, all round rugby legend. Elsewhere, we have an exclusive fashion shoot with the immensely talented designer Antonio Mac. He´s already taken Italy and the US by storm and, you heard it here first… the acclaimed fashionista will be coming to Marbella next year to launch his designs here. Watch this space… If you´re a fan of the Best of the Web page, you have to read one of our favourite entries yet… two Florida residents duped people into buying golden tickets to heaven for $99? We don´t know what´s more worrying the ticket touts or the nutcases buying them. The story unfolds even more with hilarious Facebook replies, read page 114 to find out more. Enjoy your September, we will!

everyone’s talking about... JEN & JUSTIN TIE THE KNOT
Jennifer Aniston has finally got her happy fairytale ending, marrying her long-term The actual wedding was a low-key affair with only close friends and family invited. To avoid the prying eyes of the media the nuptuals were conduct partner Justin Theroux. Jennifer, 46, and Justin, 44, met on the set of hippy comedy flick Wanderlust in 2012. Justin proposed less than a year later in the South Pacific island of Bora Bora where the couple have recently spent their honeymoon with a barrage of “Friends” including Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow and Jen´s Horrible Bosses costar Jason Bateman. The couple wed in absolute secrecy
CILLA DIES IN MARBELLA Tributes have been pouring in for British national treasure Cilla Black who died from a stroke in her Marbella holiday home last month. Cilla, presenter of hit TV shows including Blind Date and Surprise Surprise was found dead in her home on Saturday 1st August by her eldest son and manager Robert. An autopsy concluded that Cilla died of a subarachnoid haemorrhage - a rare form of stroke caused by bleeding on the surface of the brain. Cilla spent most summers in Marbella with good friends, among them celebs including singer Cliff Richard and PR guru Max Clifford. She used to eat out at popular nearby restaurants including Villa Tiberio and La Fiorentina. “Sandro Morelli, owner of Villa Tiberio, said, “Cilla was lovely. A really warm, kind and special person. She used to come here regularly with Cliff Richard.” Brigitte Pagini, owner of La Fiorentina, added, “I was touched to have known Cilla Black. She was an amazing person and used to light up the restaurant when she was here.” Cilla received her first ever number one the day after her funeral with her Very Best Of compilation.

at Justin and Jen´s palatial $22m Bel-Air mansion. Cox, 51, was Jen´s maid of honour. The wedding was even more poignant as many believed Jen wouldn´t walk down the aisle again after a traumatic divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005 amid rumours he cheated on her with Angelina Jolie. While Brad and Angelina have been the picture perfect happy family with 5 children, Jen has had a series of failed relationships including Vince Vaughan, Paul Sculfor, Bradley Cooper and John Mayer. Friends say that they have never seen Jen this happy. “It´s what was meant to be,” one said.
ZAYN & PERRIE SPLIT
Former One Direction star Zayn Malik has called time on his 3 year relationship with Little Mix´s Perrie Edwards. The couple, both 22, who have been engaged for 2 years have been hitting media headlines in recent months with rumours that their relationship was on the rocks. Zayn was also recently pictured holding hands with a stunning blonde after announcing he was leaving the band, putting the already strained relationship under the spotlight. Now it´s officially over (a text from LA apparently, nice) Zayn hasn´t wasted time enjoying his newly single party lifestyle, heading out on regular trips to a host of LA nightclubs. He has also been checking out
Keeping Up With The Kardashians star Kylie Jenner on Twitter. Ok that doesn´t seem bad but in his entire social media lifespan Zayn has only ever favourited 10 things, and Kylie in a see through black dress was one of them!
NEWS BEATRICE RACKS UP 17 HOLIDAYS Princess Beatrice is used to the finer things in life and is often spotted on holiday here in Marbella. However, the lucky Princess has notched up an impressive 17 holidays in less than 8 months, since quitting her job at Sony at the end of last year. She has taken four skiing breaks, two trips to the Caribbean, two to New York and two to
Italy. In between those immense holidays she has also managed to squeeze in (!) trips to Greece, Florida, Bahrain, the Bahamas, China, United Arab Emirates and Ibiza. She is expected in Sotogrande later this month for a bout of polo watching at the Gold Cup. Mind you if you could, you probably would!
GWEN ENDS 13 YEAR MARRIAGE BOBBI KRISTINA TRAGEDY Whitney Houston´s only child Bobbi Kristina was finally laid to rest last month after relatives realised there was little hope of survival for the 22-year-old. Bobbi Kristina had been in a medically induced coma since January 31, when she was discovered unconscious in her bathtub. In June, as hope for her recovery faded, her family decided to move her to the endof-life care facility in Georgia. She finally passed away on July 26. Since her passing there has been uproar in both the Houston and Brown families, with accusations of pictures sold of Bobbi Kristina on her deathbed. The National Enquirer put the final image of the star on their front (pictured here with obscured images). Bobby Brown’s sister,
Leolah Brown, wrote on Facebook, “Please know that, that picture that was taken of my niece, Bobbi Kristina, was taken when no other Brown was around her. My brothers know this and we have already determined who we are sure it was - and believe me - IT WAS NOT A BROWN!” Bobbi Kristina was finally laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Westfeld beside her mother Whitney Houston, who died from a drug overdose in the bath three years previously.
One of the tightest marriages in Lala land (yes there was such a thing!) ended last month amidst rumours of cheating. No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani filed for divorce from Bush frontman hubby Gavin Rossdale after 13 years citing “irreconcilable differences”. TMZ has reported that it was Gwen´s decision as she believed Gavin has been cheating on her. “It´s been a long time coming,” Gwen said to the celeb website. The couple, who have three sons together Kingston (9), Zuma (6) and 17 month old Apollo, are thought both to be seeking joint custody of their children. They have shared homes in both LA and Primrose Hill in London. It is believed that neither signed a prenuptial agreement in 2002 when they married meaning that chief breadwinner Gwen could be forced to split a large percentage of her $80m fortune with her husband. Gavin has amassed $35m in comparison.

RECIPE
If you’re anything like the Marbella Rocks team to really appreciate your nights out there’s nothing quite like a relaxing night in. Cue DVD, dinner and a good bottle of wine. Here’s a rundown and recipe for a quality night in.
SUPER HEALTHY QUINOA SALAD This light and healthy salad is the perfect meal choice for summer. It is quick and easy to make, only taking 20 minutes and is ideal for maintaining your bikini body. Jam packed with veg this is a delicious way to get your five a day. The salad is a complete meal on its own but if you want to make it more substantial add some grilled chicken strips or prawns.
INGREDIENTS ● 300g of quinoa ● 1 chili ● 100g of rocket ● 4 spring onions ●1 bunch each of coriander and mint
● 1 large mango ● 2 limes ● 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil ● 1 avocado ●H andful of halved cherry tomatoes
● 50g feta cheese DIRECTIONS 1. Cook quinoa as per packet instructions.
2. Process the chili, rocket,
trimmed spring onions, mint and the coriander (reserving some leaves) in a food processor until finely chopped. 3. Cut peppers into strips and fry them with one tablespoon of olive oil. 4. Drain and rinse the quinoa, then place on a serving platter. 5. Mix it together with the rocket mixture, lime juice and olive oil then season to taste. 6. Cut the mango and avocado into chunks and sprinkle over the quinoa with the cooked peppers. 7. Crumble over the feta and the cherry tomatoes, then garnish with the coriander leaves.
WINE MATCH What to quaff with quinoa?! It´s not always a difficult decision as with rice, couscous and pasta I always recommend stronger flavours as the background nuttiness taste of dishes like these go well with more powerful wines. I would highly recommend a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc like Oyster Bay that brings out the lime and zingy flavour of this dish while complimenting the avocado and cherry tomatoes. An Italian white, especially very slightly off-dry versions like Gavi, Vernaccia or Premiuim Suave are a good option too. They tend to be a bit lighter but with firm acidity to suit the mango and vegetables. However, If in doubt a sparkling wine, cava or prosecco is always a good choice with a light summer dish like this.

ALBUM REVIEW
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD
LANA DEL RAY – HONEYMOON
The fourth installment in George Miller’s apocalyptic Mad Max saga returns viewers to the familiar world of desert landscapes, complete chaos and the plight of desperate survivors and maniacal murderers. And it´s everything Mad Max fans hoped it would be.
Lana Del Ray´s third studio album returns to the similar sexy, noirish feel of her debut album Born to Die and follow up EP Paradise. Praise the Lord, as this is exactly what fans have been crying out for!
The ever stoic Max Rockatansky, a man of action and few words (played by the gorgeous Tom Hardy) tries to exist on the fringes of this dangerous world, but manages to again be captured and tortured by its denizens. The catalyst to Max’s survival is a woman called Furiosa, who gets sidetracked while on a journey to find her childhood home. Charlize Theron plays this heroine role perfectly, a little scary too we may add, not unlike her Oscar winning role in Monster. There are several terrifying obstacles that stand in both Max’s and Furiosa’s way including old and new enemies. Mad Max: Fury Road has won over the hearts of critics and is a great modern day action film with 90% of the stunts performed by the actors and stuntmen rather than given the usual CGI treatment.
ROCKS RATING:
To show exactly what she meant, Lana revealed the title tracks lyrics (“There are violets in your eyes, there are guns that blaze around you, there are roses in between my thighs and a fire that surrounds you”) in booklets for sale at her Endless Summer tour. Del Rey’s Ultraviolence became her first No. 1 Album upon its June 2014 release and this latest album is tipped for bigger things according to music industry insiders. Ultraviolence sold 182,000 copies during its first week, making for the largest debut sales week for a female artist since Beyonce’s 2013 self-titled album.
BOOK REVIEW
THE SUNRISE A moving tale of love, marriage, community, deception and betrayal. The Sunrise is set in Cyprus putting across fascinating historical and political aspects without being overbearing. The story starts with an ambitious couple who are about to open a spectacular hotel in Cyprus, where Greek and Turkish Cypriots work in harmony. Two neighbouring families, the Georgious and the Özkans, are among many who have moved to Famagusta to escape the years of unrest and ethnic violence elsewhere on the island. But beneath the city’s façade of glamour and success, tension is building. When a Greek coup plunges the island into chaos, Cyprus faces a disastrous conflict. Turkey invades to protect the Turkish Cypriot minority and Famagusta is shelled. Forty thousand people seize their most precious possessions and flee from the advancing soldiers. In the deserted city, just two families remain. This is their story.
Honeymoon has some very big shoes to fill but pundits are expecting Lana´s new romantic ´noir´ themed album to do just that.
The Sunrise was written by acclaimed author Victoria Hislop, wife of Private Eye´s Ian Hislop. Victoria has had great commercial success with The Island and The Thread and this much anticipated third book about life on a Greek island is a sure fired summer hit.

Q: So Stacey, how´s your summer been? STACEY: Fantastic. We have just
released a track called North Miami Beach, which has been really well received and my new track Ghetto Love is out soon too. I have also been sharing the Aqwa booth with tonnes of great artists this year including Martinez Brothers, Wally Lopez, Miguel Campbell, 99 Souls

Blonde, Clean Bandit and many more to come.
Q: What´s the best thing about DJing with this calibre of artists? STACEY: The best thing is about
to Tanger Club 555. Great hospitality, great people and great venue. Big thanks to Tete and all his staff. Check out the video on You Tube.
Q: Did you not make it to the Island this year? STACEY: This year was crazy
DJing with these artists is the advice and experience you gain. Also I get to hear all their new bootlegs (and them mine) so it´s great because we are always swapping tunes that no one else has.
busy here in Marbella but future plans are definitely Ibiza so we are on a mission to get some good tech house out before the end of the year.
Q: Have you been anywhere else this summer? STACEY: Had a great trip
Q: What´s next on your agenda? STACEY: I have started 2 new
NEWS brands called Deep Down N Dirty and Deep Down N Even Dirtier the first session is on my website www.djstaceyjames.com this represents the style we will be playing and producing.
Q: Are you working with any other big acts or singers on your upcoming tracks? STACEY: I have met so many
artists this year like Taboo from the Black Eyed Peas, Kid Ink and loads of great house DJ´s and producers and we all had a great time. It´s great, so its only the case of making some nice remixes and if they like them then we go from there. I’m really concentrating on my DJ sets and my own personal remixes and bootlegs…that´s what the crowd love, banging remixes.
Q: Any plans to launch an album? STACEY: A bit early for that yet,
but as soon as I find some serious vocalists I will get right on it.
Q: Are there any surprises up your sleeve for your Marbella fanbase? STACEY: I have been going
to piano lessons in the 40 degree heat to expand my musical capabilities! Plus, most excitingly, I´m experimenting with Augmented Reality through new technology by iPlayar. I´ll be getting a tattoo that you can scan with your phone and see me playing my sets live. It´s going to be frigging awesome. Excuse my French!
Q: How have you been growing as a DJ? STACEY: I have been mostly
concentrating on my DJ sets and how to improve every minute with tools, loops and accapellas. I believe in personal development so I am always trying to learn and better myself as a person and musician. I have been studying marketing, photoshop and final cut for the last 6 months. I think as a DJ you are a brand so my advice is if you can do all these and market your product you´re half way there.
Q: What are your plans when Aqwa closes in October? STACEY: This winter I am going
to hibernate in my music studio till Aqwa opening in May next
year because I have learnt summer is for DJing and having fun while winters are for producing and preparing for the next summer.
Q: You´ve done quite a bit of work alongside Vital Emotion including releasing two tracks last year as well as Nick Hussey, are there any more collaborations in store? STACEY: Vital Emotion are
working hard on some great Nu Disco remixes originals and bootlegs. Big thanks to my boys Simon C and Israel Perez (Doneyck). I have also been working hard with Nick Hussey in the studio. He is about to open a new club in Sheffield called Arch 9 where I´ll also be playing some sets this winter.
Big thank you to my family and manager Ian for all their support. Big up to Ian, Claire, Steve, Charlie, Jo, Phil, Dom, Igor, Justin, Sara, Rocio, DJ Scott Strutten, DJ Sai, Paul, Adrian, Security Team, Dancers, Aqwa Crew, Kay, Silver Fox & the Rock & Roller, and thanks Sam for this interview. wen Stefani is more often in the news for showcasing a new line of her fashion label L.A.M.B., releasing an album or being pictured with her Bush frontman hubby Gavin Rossdale and their 3 beautiful children. However, this summer Gwen has sadly announced her 13year marriage to Gavin is over, amidst reports of him cheating. Gwen announced the split publicly on August 3rd, after filing for divorce citing “irreconcilable differences.” Media reports claim that Gavin has been unfaithful although these have yet to be confirmed by either singer at the time of going to press. The news has come as a shock to most as many regarded Gwen and Gavin as Hollywood´s unshakeable golden couple. They married at St Paul´s Cathedral in 2002 and have gone on to have three boys together; Kingston (9), Zuma (6) and 17 month old Apollo. It is thought they are both seeking joint custody of the children and with no pre-nup signed Gwen, the more successful of the couple, could be forced to split a large percentage of her $80 million fortune with Gavin. Although Gwen is devastated by the break-up it´s not the first time she has had to get over a major love in her life. In 1994 No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal broke up with her after 7 years together. Gwen was beside herself and the heartache led her to write some of the band´s most successful ever tracks including Don´t Speak and Hey You. Many think the newly single Gwen will channel her heartache into her new soon-to-bereleased album.
heartbreak. The Hollaback Girl singer is now due to release her much anticipated third solo album at the end of this year. “I’ve been working on it,” Stefani said in a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest. “I feel excited now because when I first started working on it, I was like, ‘I’m gonna put it out this year!’ I was very kind of rushed about it. Now I feel settled in, I had the baby - I feel like now I’m going to go back in and do some more writing and be a little more relaxed about it.” New tracks from the album include lead single Baby Don´t Lie (many believe now is a snub to Gavin) and

Gwen has also reportedly been working with Latino songstress Shakira on a new track for the album called Confection. It is unclear whether they will release separate versions of the track or whether it will be a duet. It’s crazy that she brought me in to collaborate with her and create some good energy. She’s amazing. This new album is like a new Gwen and a taste of what we love from her.”
FASHION DARLING
Stefani had always made in-roads in the fashion stakes – regularly receiving praise for her kitch and cool outfits she wore on stage with No Doubt and during her solo career. In 2003 her stylist Andrea Lieberman introduced her to haute couture clothing, which led to Stefani launching a fashion line named L.A.M.B. in 2004. The line takes influence from a variety of fashions, including Guatemalan, Japanese, and Jamaican styles. L.A.M.B achieved popularity among celebrities and is worn by stars such as Teri Hatcher, Nicole Kidman, Cameron Diaz and Stella McCartney. In June 2005, she expanded her collection with the less expensive Harajuku Lovers line, which she referred to as “a glorified merchandise line”, with varied products including a camera, mobile phone charms, and underwear. In late 2006, Stefani released a limited edition line of dolls called “Love. Angel. Music. Baby. Fashion dolls”. The dolls are inspired by the various costumes that Stefani and the Harajuku Girls wore while touring for the album. She also has a perfume collection and regularly showcases her fashion at New York Fashion Week, where she even presents and models her latest collections. It´s certainly been an uneventful year for Gwen but with a strong friendship group around her and a close knit family (she has three siblings she´s very close to) and a stint as a judge on The Voice US it won´t take long for her to bounce back on top.

COUGARS C
WORDS BY: Matilda Keywood
ourtney Cox is 50, her fiancé is 38; Tina Turner is 75, her boyfriend is 59; Katy Price is 36, her boyfriend is 28; Mariah Carey is 45 and her boyfriend is 34… Still single? Relax, your boyfriend might not have been born yet. Today these older women have been labelled as ‘cougars’ in relation to the mountain lion, as though they are wild animals with no self-control. But this is not true; today women like Madonna and Courtney Cox have actually developed long and loving relationships with their younger partners. Madonna’s most former ex, Timor Steffens, was 30 years younger than her at the time. In an interview at the time, Mr
Steffens revealed that the age gap did not affect them, “There is an age gap between me and Madonna but I don’t notice it. My girlfriends have always been older than me and that’s how I like it. I learn a lot.” Although I am certain Mr Steffens is aware that learning isn’t the only plus side of dating an older woman. Chances are she is not new to the dating scene and will wow you with her knowledge, experience and confidence. Maybe this is why cougar relationships are becoming so regular today. Courtney Cox, Mariah Carey and Tina Turner have even married their younger men. So unless mountain lions are known to settle down in loving monogamous relationships, I don’t think the name ‘cougar’ sufficiently applies to these women. Plus if women from any age have the confidence to get out there and embrace their sexuality then why shouldn’t they? It has been argued that it is even empowering for females to see that age does not stop you from being beautiful and appreciated.
GOING THE DISTANCE But the question
is, does the dramatic age difference end in disaster? Unfortunately, for many couples it all did end in tears. For instance, Madonna has had three failed relationships with men at least 20 years younger than her. These include Jesus Luz, Brahim Zaibit and Timor Steffens. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have to be the most talked about ‘cougar’ relationship known yet. At the age of 51, Demi married the 35-year-old star Ashton Kutcher

in 2005. Ashton even converted to Kabbalah, the form of Judaism that Demi practiced (how romantic). Nonetheless, eight years later it also ended in divorce. “I will forever cherish the time I spent with Demi,” Kutcher posted on Twitter at the time. “Marriage is one of the most difficult things in the world, and unfortunately sometimes they fail.” It can be seen as very telling that Kutcher moved onto someone his own age after the divorce. In 2012 he married Mila Kunis - at the age of 31 she is a whopping six years younger than Kutcher. So what makes some cougar relationships so unsuccessful? Askmen.com has said it is the baggage of an older women: ex-husbands, children, business pressures and debts. Also the judgement men receive from people such as their bosses and family for dating much older women. This was definitely the case
FEATURES for One Direction´s Harry Styles, who was getting loads of bad press for dating older women such as TV presenter Caroline Flack and U.S. comedian Erin Foster. He was even given the name ‘cougar catcher’ by Hollywood Life in 2014. On the plus side, I’m sure Harry has upped his sales with hopeful housewives since his interest in older women has been revealed. In fact, when interviewed for an online gossip magazine, Harry admitted that he’s seen daughters bury their heads into their hands in humiliation, whilst the mothers try and flirt with him at concerts. But what about MOUGARS?! Yes that’s right! Male cougars are out there in force too nowadays. In fact, this February Stephen Fry (aged 57) got married to the 27-year-old Elliot Spencer. “We’re very much in the honeymoon stage still.
I’m dizzy with delirium and ditzy with dippiness,” Mr Fry said in February. “It’s really thrilling; in Chaucerian English I’m bathing in a bath of bliss, it’s just great.” At 45 years old, Jay Z is 12 years older than his beautiful wife Beyoncé. David Hasselhoff is 27 years older than his girlfriend Hayley Roberts - she is almost half his age. But people barely blink an eye at these relationships. It is definitely a one-way street of judgement when it comes to ‘cougaring’. Even on TV today we see ‘cougars’ presented as wild, uncontrollable predators. Take Cougar Town for example, the series that Courtney Cox stars in. She plays an older mother with a teenage son, and is shown to ruthlessly search for younger men as sexual conquests. At one point she even eyes up a young man with the words, “I’d love to lick his body”. Unfairly women are perceived as doing something wrong in the media when in actual fact they are just enjoying normal, healthy relationships, with men that happen to be a bit younger than them.
mothers and older women. Now there are dating sites specifically aimed towards ‘cougars’. After researching I can even provide you with a top five. First we have OlderWomenDating.com - yes I’m serious. Followed by AgeMatch. com, KissCougar.com, CougarLife. com and finally Cougared.com. On most of these sites you will find that the men are named ‘cubs’, which I’m sure implies sweet, innocent and vulnerable…? Over all I think it is very clear that there are two types of cougars today. We have seen those who have actually fallen into a committed loving relationships. So I don’t see why they should be judged in anyway. Then the others are just after one night flings, and don’t see why they should settle for the old if they can get the new. Fair enough, right?
THE ORIGINAL COUGAR
However it seems men’s interest in older women officially began after Finch landed Stiffler’s mum, Jeanine, on top of a pool table in the film American Pie. Finch was congratulated afterwards, as though it was an achievement of some sort. In addition, the phrase MILF (standing for ‘mother I’d like to f***’), also became well known after its frequent use in the hit film. Therefore, it could be argued that the American Pie franchise is what kicked-started men’s obsession with

FEVER PITCH RUGBY WORLD CUP 2015
T
he time has come for the 8th Rob Ellis Rugby World Cup and this time rugby is coming home with the twenty best national rugby sides in the world competing between the 21st of September until the final at the end of October in England and Wales. 4 groups of 5 teams will play each other to decide the top two sides to go through to the quarter finals. Winning the group will become vital as coming second in your group will plunge your team into a tough quarter final against the winner from the other groups. As rugby is such a physical sport the team to stand victorious will be the team that has taken the easiest route possible. With so many tough sides and the newer countries to the sport proving they can battle with the best teams as well, this year should make the greatest rugby World Cup ever.
34 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 14
The sport of rugby compares to that of classic wartime battles with size, strength and speed being so crucial but moulding these features around a tactic that best suits your team and hinders the opposition and their style. The English mastered the kicking tactic in 2003 with help from Johnny Wilkinson, making them nearly invincible. The Springboks then beat England twice in the 2007 World Cup with their total power rugby provided by their strength in the pack and the lightening speed from Bryan Habana, the man to convert their kicks. Percy Montgomery certainly aided this team to World Cup glory. The last World Cup 2011 was the most one sided tournament yet with New Zealand playing at home with the strongest team in every area, this left little doubt in people’s mind who
was going to win. This year the All Blacks are being taken out of their home comforts which they relished last time round and that advantage has been given to two of the only teams in the tournament that on their day could beat them - England and Wales. Ireland are just a ferry journey away as well and they have shot out of O’Driscoll’s shadow into the limelight for this 2015 World Cup. Australia after beating New Zealand in their recent warm up game will also be in with a shot. The strongest pack in the tournament belongs to South Africa, this Springbok team although just losing to Argentina in their warm up game, will be hungry for a repeat of their World Cup glory in France. With so many sides playing at the top level of the game it is sure to be an intense month of rugby.
FEATURES GROUP A
The group of death in this World Cup stands out as England, Australia, Wales and Fiji all in together with Uruguay as the bottom seeded nation. This is due to no top 3 seeded teams in this group so ends up with seeds 4, 5 and 6 all together, this however does not take into account the home advantage which give England and Wales an extra boost as well as Australia’s current form. It could be said that England are second favourites and Australia and Wales are only just behind them making this group twice as tough as any other. The last day will see England playing Uruguay with a clear target of what points they need to qualify - which is a nice position for any team.
GROUP B
South Africa will fly through this group bar a few big knocks against the physical Samoans and might even concede a try against the US speedsters however the Scotland game will be the toughest test for the Springboks squad. Japan,
THE FAVOURITES New Zealand after winning just about every trophy possible in the last 4 years are undoubtedly the team to beat. With world class talent filling their ranks with strength and speed players like Dan Carters, Richie Mccaw and Nonu who are all hugely experienced players in those key positions and will help keep the stability and reduce any errors. New Zealand always play on the edge of offside giving their opposition little time with the ball. This could prove their undoing if the Northern Hemisphere referees pull them up on this. Official second favourites Ireland after winning the Six Nations in March have earned this spot with special thanks to Jonathan Sexton. With the best tactical kicking, remarkable hands and lines of running Sexton is now the most influential player in Europe. Ireland also poses great strength upfront and in the midfield allowing for their
precise up and under tactic that seems to be the hardest to defend against in the modern game. England have had a few problems to their squad with injuries and a few bad boys being taken out the squad. Tuilangi was the main issue however England do posses the best depth in numbers with so many players coming through the ranks; JJ, Slade and Burgess. The latter has more than proved his worth as the new midfield weapon and players like Mike Brown and Ben Youngs are some of the best readers of the game. As the tournament progresses England should be the team to get better and with all their tough group games taking part at home venues. If coach Lancaster can get the team right - they are in with a great chance.
ranked 14th in the world, are an improved team and are the final side in this group that will be a scramble for second place qualification.
GROUP C
The most neatly divided group with few surprises expected in qualifying teams, New Zealand will want to play well against Argentina who are capable of punishing any of the big sides on an off day as they proved against the Springboks in their World Cup warm up game. Other than these two Tonga and Georgia are the closest paired with Namibia, the lowest ranked in the tournament.
GROUP D
The European group with Canada should prove interesting as Ireland one of the favourites will have to play against France on the last game to decide who tops the group. The loser might even have to say “arrive derci” to the cup as the Italian’s will be hoping to rack up enough points against Romania to put them in with a chance. African Springboks have the most aggressive pack that no team will want to play against. However, they will be disappointed by their form recently loosing to Argentina in their warm up game has certainly left their confidence a bit shaken and with their captain Davilliars breaking his jaw, he will be unlikely to participate in this World Cup. Eben Etzebeth the young lock known as “The Enforcer” for his phenomenal strength helps keep South Africa the most physical side in the tournament. But will this be enough to win rugby’s greatest prize? The Australian Wallabies are coming into the World Cup in fine form with a great win over

FEATURES the All Blacks last month. They may have lost the second warm up game but Australia have the most dangerous player in the tournament, Israel Falou, who has tormented all the top sides with his size and speed. With Giteau and Cooper providing the spark from midfield all help make this side an exciting running team that few defences will be able to stop on
their day. There scrummaging has let the Australians down recently but is their only weakness and a lot of work has gone into this with their new scrum coach Ledesma, the former Argentina Hooker, and the difference can be seen. Unfortunatly for Wales, George North their talisman will be out with concussion gained from the Six Nations battle with England. This puts a lot of pressure on Leigh Halfpenny and Jamie Roberts who together can make one of the most potent attacks in the game. Captain Sam Warburton is also one of the best in the game but with such high effort levels will he be able to stay consistant throughout the whole tournament? Unless they can pull
out an amazing performance early on, they will be chasing the top two from the group of death. France have the potential to beat the top sides, however, the other side would have to be having a bad day! Counter attacks and breaks from the loose have always been their strength but this World Cup will see a different style for them. The effect of the French league being so diluted with Southern Hemisphere players has had a knock on effect to their international side. Gael Fickou is one of their few back that will create some moments of brilliance but expect them to be more of a forwards team, who will kick most of their points.
underdogs to keep an eye on The last three in the top ten are unlikely to win but they are certainly likely to cause a stir among fans. Argentina have become a force to be reckoned with as South Africa learnt. They went as high as third in the world rankings after the 2007 World Cup after reaching the semi finals. This team has a strong pack who all play for top clubs around the

world. There magic is provided from their amazing winger Juan Imhoff. However their fly half, Juan Martin Hernandez, is their biggest strength and will look to control games with versatile kicking and is recognised as one of the best number 10’s ever. Fiji are also one of my outside favourites after beating Wales in the previous World Cup they are capable of beating top sides. Having such a small pool of players 7s rugby is more suited to Fiji and this can be seen in their style of 15’s rugby. Fast running,

offloading out of tackles keeps their matches full of excitement however being in the group of death will prove to be a tougher test for this years qualifications even with their 6ft 5 kicking winger, Namani Nadolo. The last team to keep an eye on this World Cup is actually a surprise with US. Their 15s team has never proved itself on the world level, however their sevens side won the last tournament of the season at Twickenham in style. No team could touch their pace outside and raw strength in the pack, it will be very interesting to see how they can convert this to 15s against the strong rugby nations of Scotland and Samoa who are in their group. History would tell us these are far stronger sides than the US. With their winning mentality and athletic nature the US could qualify even though ranked 16 in the world.
IN SUMMARY Whatever the outcome maybe it is certain that it will be the must see sporting event of the year. With so many teams in contention as the divide between the top and bottom sides has been reduced greatly thanks to the modern era of the professional game and many of the games greatest ever players to grace a rugby pitch, Who will stand out as the strongest fastest and ultimately best side to be crowned world champions 2015? So to finish in the words of rugby champion Jean Pierre Rives: “The whole point of rugby is that it is, first and foremost, a state of mind, a spirit. The winning side will be that to posses the most heart and passion for the game.” So good luck to all teams and may the best side win.

MARTIN OFFIAH´S VIEW Martin Offiah is an English professional rugby league player. A Great Britain and England national representative winger, due to his running speed he is nicknamed “Chariots” Offiah after the film Chariots of Fire. Offiah played for Wigan and Salford, and in Australia for Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. He scored 501 tries during his rugby career, making him the thirdhighest try scorer of all time. Since retiring Offiah has also provided commentary for Sky Sports rugby league coverage and worked as a player agent. Q: SO MARTIN WHAT DO YOU THINK OF ENGLAND´S CHANCES IN THE WORLD CUP? I think England have a great chance of winning the World Cup after narrowly losing the 6 Nations to Ireland on points difference. England will feel with the comp on home soil - the odds must be stacked in their favour to progress from pool A into the knockout stages. Australia and Wales will be their toughest opponents while Fiji and Uruguay will be game opposition. The last time this competition was held solely in this country in 1991 England made the finals so let’s hope they can go one better this time and regain the Webb Ellis trophy they won in

Australia back in 2003. Q: WHO ARE YOU TIPPING TO WIN? New Zealand were and still probably are the bookies favourite but their recent loss to Australia in the Southern Hemisphere rugby Championship showed that nothing can be taken for granted. Q: WHICH GROUP GAMES ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING? The pool games that stand out for me are Pool A England v Australia and England v Wales will be tense nail biting affairs. Pool B South Africa v Somoa is being billed as the most physical game in the whole competition. South Africa will be looking to bounce back from a terrible Rugby Championship. Pool C - New Zealand v Argentina Big opportunity for Argentina to show the world their win over South Africa recently was no fluke and they are making strides to become a huge rugby powerhouse. Pool D - France v Ireland The 6 Nations champs probably view themselves as Europe’s best hope for World Cup glory but must beat France first. Q: WHO IS THE PLAYER (OR
PLAYERS) TO WATCH THIS WORLD CUP? The squads aren´t fully selected yet but I’m hoping Sam Burgess gets the nod as he is a player the nation is dying to see on the big Union stage. Some say the World Cup has come to soon for slamming Sam but I don’t agree. You never bet against quality. Australia’s Israel Falau is a super human athlete who northern hemisphere fans saw during the Lions tour of 2013. The Warratah’s full back is world class. New Zealand’s Sonny Bill Williams is another man mountain with World Cup winning experience - expect to see some brilliance from him. Q: IN YOUR OPINION DOES PLAYING ON HOME GROUND HELP THAT MUCH? Playing at home with a nation behind you is a tremendous advantage. C’mon England bring me my Chariot Of Fire baby! Q: WHAT´S YOUR BEST EVER WORLD CUP MOMENT AND WHY? My best World Cup memory has to be watching Johnny Wilkinson stopping that drop goal in 2003 that won England the cup and made rugby a major sport in this country.

DRESSING THE PART W
e love getting dressed up for a date night, but we must admit - they’re so much better in the summer. Summer Fridays, weekend trips to the beach and extended travels mean all the more extra time to get dressed up for a fun day or night on the town.
Wear white right in the summer
White is such a strong colour to wear during the summer, but wearing white comes with rules. Summer also means a lot of weddings to attend, and when attending a wedding the No. 1 rule is to not to wear a white dress. This rule is where most people seem to agree. The only woman who should be wearing white to a wedding is the bride. Another rule to remember is the difference between white and off white. Some people tend to really love white and the way it compliments their skin. Off white is a colour that can be worn all year round, but when it comes to regular white it should only be worn head to toe in spring and summer when our tans carry it off better. However, if you are in a tropical environment in the winter, white clothing seems to be necessary. If your days are full of sunshine weather in the winter then you
FASHION can pull off a cute summer white dress in the winter. When wearing white, you want to make sure you wear the right shoes. Black pumps paired with a lightweight white dress could turn into an odd combination. When wearing a white dress in the spring and summer pairing neutral toned wedges or sandals looks best. If you have a busy day ahead and a lot of stops to make wearing white might not be the best idea. White may look great on you, but once it gets dirty it is not that great anymore. Nothing screams summer like white, which is why you need to embrace the white and enjoy the summer. For a cool summer night, a great-fitting pair of white jeans is a summer staple item. When wearing those white jeans, you can go any style from dressy to casual. White lace is another excellent buy for the summer because it never seems to go out of style. The white lace dress can be worn to a dressy event or a night out. Since it is summer the white bikini is a popular buy. It makes you look extremely tanned even if you have fair skin. Wearing white is a must this summer and is definitely a chance to make a statement.
For the Beach
The sun will be shining and yes that means throwing on your bathing suit! If baring it all isn’t on the cards just yet, then a cover up is always a chic way to go. Pick a suit that emphasises your favourite part on your body.” A tropical one piece exaggerates the waist but still gives you full coverage. Adding a sophisticated lace up sandal helps this look transition effortlessly from the sand to the sidewalk.
Picnic in the Park
For a picnic in the park, and the potential activities that come along with the event, shorts and sneakers are a must. Instead of a casual T-shirt, take your look one step further by opting for a PJ style button-down and mirrored aviators.
Outdoor Concert
Outdoor concerts are the best excuse to slip into a romper or playsuit. Dressier than traditional shorts, the versatile one-piece is better than a dress at cutting down on wardrobe malfunctions when dancing. It even leaves the door open for a little crowd surfing!
Engagement Party
For summer engagement parties,
easy glamour is the name of the game. A printed dress will do most of the styling work for you so you can focus on celebrating the happy couple. Slip into a pair of high-heeled sandals, grab a matching clutch, and it’s time to hit the dance floor.
Something Ruffled
Ruffles are the epitome of feminine charm, but you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a bad ‘80s prom dress. Wear ruffles with simple hemlines, understated peplums, and tiny accenting trims. Don’t go for anything too structured or stiff with this trend—it’s all about movement.
Barbecue With Friends
When your friends invite you over for a barbecue, use it as an excuse to break out that preppy summer shirtdress and ballet flats. Reach for a cross-body bag to keep your hands free for the hamburgers and fries you’re already salivating over. Last but not least? Have a bit of fun and top the look off with a floppy, summer hat.

Modern Lace Dress Lace is back and edgier than ever. Whether in a bright colour, as a layering piece, or in a thicker cut out texture, the trend is taking a step away from its delicate nature. Rock some lace in a more casual setting, or go classic and wear a lacy dress to a cocktail party.
CELEB STYLE Here are some lessons we learned about summer dressing from some daringly-dressed stars. 1. MAKE SURE YOUR ACCESSORIES MATCH YOUR LOOK. We give two thumbs up to Khloe Kardashian’s choice of a casual tube dress for the summer. But pairing such a laid-back dress with fancy Giuseppe Zanotti heels? That’s just confusing. 2. WEAR APPROPRIATE COLOURS. There’s nothing wrong with a light summer suit, but Julie Bowen picked the wrong colour. Bright green is a tough colour that might work better in the spring... or not at all! 3. KEEP YOUR NEON LOOKS CLASSY. Chrissy Teigen usually looks great, but she made this neon yellow outfit a little too sultry with her see-through shirt and noticeable black bra. 4. WORKOUT BRAS ARE NOT CROP TOPS. This has to be one of Miley Cyrus’ most perplexing outfits this summer (and trust us, there were a lot). Her pants and sandal combination is already awkward enough, but then she decided to just throw on a workout bra on top. And we’re pretty sure she wasn’t headed to the gym... 5. MAKE SURE YOUR DRESS FITS. During the summer, you’re tempted to just throw on something light and easy. But make sure you still have a figure underneath that fabric. Ginnifer Goodwin’s body got completely lost in this white ensemble.

BACK TO WORK MAKE-UP TIPS
W
ell, ladies it is almost time for us to say goodbye to summer and to resume our work life or classes. Stumped for a great beauty look? From lipgloss to cool cat eyes, these easy make-up ideas will keep your skin beautiful, so you can let your true beauty shine even when you’re in a rush.
Preparation
Always make sure to properly cleanse your face to remove dead cells and to purify pores. Remember not to forget the primer. Primer reduces the need for touch-ups and pores will be protected from your make-up. However try and stick to powder primer, save the cream and gel primers for very dry skin as they can clog pores and cause blackheads.
Conceal imperfections
Use concealer to cover any under eye bags, spots or scars. First, be sure that you have a concealer to match your skin tone, when concealing under the eyes try to find a peach based concealer as opposed to a yellow base. Peach will bring warmth to the area. When covering dark spots you need the heavy coverage of a cream concealer to ensure the dark pigment is completely erased. Cream concealers have a thicker texture with less oil than liquid, so they last longer. A great tip is to finish by running a sponge under water. Squeeze the water out, dip into loose powder, then dab over the area to set the concealer. A great sponge to use is the beauty blender.

have very oily skin. Be sure to use a kabuki brush to apply the mineral foundation in circular motions.
Let your eyes take centre stage
Layer Foundation
It’s easier to add than to take away, a little foundation goes a long way. It’s better to start with less and to build it up to the coverage you want. It’s easier to add product slowly than it is to take it away. The right foundation will even out your skin tone and give you a flawless complexion. If you have young skin without many blemishes, you probably need just a very lightweight liquid foundation, remember to apply liquid foundation with downward strokes and go with the “grain of the hair”. Setting powder will also help to absorb facial oil and keep your make up long lasting, throughout your busy day. Mineral foundation works best for those who already have an even skin tone and don’t need much correction. It can also be a lot better to use in hotter weather or if you
Rim your eyes in thick kohl for black bold eyes but a surprisingly daytime friendly look. The best part about it is that though it will turn heads and only takes a second to apply. Simply smudge on and go. However, if you want to step out of your comfort zone, then try applying a vibrant colour like blue or purple across your lower lid. To make coloured eyeliner work, you need to pick a colour that compliments (not matches) your eye colour. For example, brown eyes look best with richer, more saturated colours. Blue eyes are incredible when paired with bronze, orange or rust and green eyes look wonderful with purple, gold or a dark turquoise but remember to keep the rest of your look simple. If you’re looking for a simpler look then apply sleek black liner in the corners of your lids to draw attention to your eyes. A very sharp pencil works, but liquid liner is your best bet for getting a cool, catty style.
of balm before swiping on any lip colour. If you’ve decided to keep your eyes natural and simple then choose a lipstick with a soft pink hue for feminine attention-grabbing lips. A candy-coloured hue brightens your face and makes a subtle statement. Gloss always wins in our book. So even layering a clear lipgloss over your lipstick, or just swiping it on your lips to enhance your natural colour. Just a single dash adds a touch of glam to an entire look and is a great easy style that works for anyone, any age.
Lips
A simple nude lip is the perfect compliment to heavier eye make-up and glowing skin. The key to nude lips is a moisturised pucker, so buff your lips with a brush and apply lots

Eyebrows
The best accessory to this look is softly shaped eyebrows. Groomed eyebrows are important to your beauty regime because they can instantly transform the look of your face. The right eyebrow shape for you can give an instant face lift or enhance the frame of your face. A great tip is to spray hairspray directly onto a mascara applicator brush, then brush onto your eyebrows to keep them set in place!
Finish Up
Adding just a bit of blush to your cheeks will add a flirty, youthful flush. So sweep on some blush before leaving the house. Don’t forget to set If you participate in a lot of activities but still want to look gorgeous then try a setting spray to finish off your morning makeup regime. This keeps all of your make-up in place, no matter how busy you are all day. A great setting spray is Model in a Bottle Original Setting Spray. It’s a lightweight mist you spray on over your make-up to help it stay on for up to 8 hours.

#BEARDPORN In my opinion beards can make even distinctly average looking people look interesting. Maybe it´s the guts it takes to grow a beard or the time it can take to maintain one but these guys are passionate about their facial hair and that gets a thumbs up from me and my barbers. So in the spirit of the new Barber Club Marbella hashtag #Beardporn I have rounded up the best beard trends so if you´re thinking of sporting one this summer you´ll know which one will look good on you.
5 O´CLOCK SHADOW
FOUNDER OF THE BARBER CLUB MARBELLA JON HAS TRAVELLED THE WORLD EXTENSIVELY AND IS ON POINT WITH THE LATEST TRENDS. HE HAS COME UP WITH THE UNIQUE CONCEPT OF COMBINING A LUXURY BARBERSHOP, HIGH-END COFFEE & COCKTAIL LOUNGE AND MALE GROOMING SPA. THIS INNOVATIVE CONCEPT, WHERE EXCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP IS PARAMOUNT, MEANS MEMBERS CAN HAVE UNLIMITED USE OF THE BARBER CLUB PRODUCTS AND SERVICES WITH VARIOUS TAILORED PACKAGES. A NEW GENERATION OF MALE GROOMING HAS BEEN BORN.
72 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 14
If you want to look rugged but you think you´re too good looking to grow a proper beard then the 5 o´clock shadows the one for you. Also good for balancing a broad upper face and narrowing or covering a pointy chin. Think David Beckham and you´re spot on.
THE EXTENDED GOATEE
This one is extremely popular nowadays as its not a goatee (which has zero street cred) but gives you an in-between beard look that’s not taking the plunge as much as a full beard would do. A great look for rectangular faces as it disguises your right angles.
SCRUFFY BEARD
Great for lazy boys that don´t want the hassle of maintaining their beards. Also hides any distinguishing facial marks and blemishes. Celeb fans of scruffy beards include Brad Pitt and Joaquin Phoenix.
“With great beard comes great responsibility”. ZZ TOP
Anything longer than a full beard I call a ZZ Top. While not exactly the most sought after beard on the market, shorter, darker versions of this 70´s classic are making a resurgence these days. Does make you look a lot older so if you´re 50 plus I would advise you not to try this trend.
THINGS NOT TO DO WITH YOUR BEARD
THE FULL BEARD
Big, bold and brave, the full beard is not for the faint hearted. It gives a really macho look and will undoubtedly turn a lot of heads. This should not be attempted on anyone with a small face as it dwarfs your features even more making your face look smaller.
● DON´T treat it like a topiary. ● DON´T grow a horseshoe moustache like Hulk Hogan, ever. ● DON´T grow a goatee like US director Andrew Jarecki. ● DON´T leave food in your beard. ● DON´T trim into a point.
● DON´T shave a hard line into your neckline. ● DON´T bleach your beard. ● DON´T do a John Travolta, that is not a goatee or a beard, it´s a monstrosity. ● DON´T twist the sides unless you are really crazy enough to carry it off.

arbohydrates are generally regarded by a majority of the population as the “Enemy”! Those who have read my column before might already know that I whole heartedly disagree and actually recommend a high, regulated intake of carbs for fat loss. However, if the no carb route is more favourable there are ways to do it and even more importantly, ways to NOT do it. Now I’m going to explain a few facts about how to keep your body happy with your new ”Zero Carb” lifestyle. Until I was around 28 years old I actually didn’t know what a carbohydrate was or what it did, so I’m fully aware that a lot of you don’t aswell. So let’s start here! Carbohydrates are Sugars that the body converts into Glucose, this is then transported stored inside the muscles as Glycogen and used as energy for Cognitive (Brain) and Motor (Brain/Muscle) Functions. It is a good thing. But too much of a good thing can often be bad, so when too much Glucose is abundant in the body it will be stored for a later time as Fat! This is when carbs are bad, when you’re shovelling too many in all day long - haha. So if we take away this essential source of energy from our diets how can our Cognitive and Motor functions still.... well function? The solution is something we call Keytones. One thing the body will do when there is a lack of energy source is to break down your muscle tissue back into its core components (amino acids) to use as fuel. This is called Catabolism and for muscle building this is the worst case scenario. So simply cutting out carbs doesn’t cut it, we need an alternative power source. Another process the body will go through in search of energy is to break down Lipids (fat) in the liver into what we call Ketones. This is ultimately a better solution. Think of this as what diesel is to petrol. Both can be used as fuel very well so what we now need to do is change our vehicle (body) from a petrol car to a diesel. Without diesel or petrol your car just isn’t gonna run and if you mix the 2 fuels together it’s gonna cause all sorts of problems and it just isn’t gonna run right!! So what I’m trying to say is that when it comes to Ketosis or carbohydrates for energy, in this instance it’s one or the other. While it’s recommended while on a carbohydrate diet to consume around 20% of fats (We can’t survive without protein and fats. We can function perfectly without carbs.) When it comes to a Ketogenic diet, carbs can actually block the transportation of Ketones as energy and drives up your insulin levels, both of which will cause any fat you eat to be stored immediately. So for this we are cutting them out completely. Another common mistake for novice dieters is to cut out carbs AND avoid fats as it’s a popular misconception that foods containing fat are “Fattening”. NO!! This will lead to
HEALTH & FITNESS
metabolic disaster as the body will find itself in a state of panic as to how it is going to fuel your body and KEEP YOU ALIVE. It will react by putting you in a Catabolic state and make the decision to store as much reserve energy from the foods you are eating and by now we know it will store this as body fat. If we are going to remove carbs it is essential to provide enough fat lipids for Ketone production in the Liver. So in a nutshell.....EAT LOTS OF FAT YAY
To show how important fat is here are some Fatty Facts:
● Fat provides a highly concentrated form of energy. One gram of fat gives you nine calories of energy, which is over twice that provided by carbohydrates or protein. ● Fat enables your body to transport, store and absorb the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K. An absence of fat may mean a deficiency in these vitamins. Fat soluble vitamins help to regulate blood pressure, heart rate, blood vessel constriction, blood clotting and the nervous system. ● Fat provides insulation and a protective cover for vital organs. In an average adult, as much as 9 lbs of fat is found around the liver, heart, kidneys and other
organs. ● Essential fatty acids from omega-3 and omega-6 fats cannot be made by your body, and therefore they must be supplied through your diet. Dull, lifeless hair and dry skin can be a sign that you may not be getting enough of these fats. So now we know that fats are our friend we can go ahead and separate the good from the bad - ready to convert our vehicle to a keto powered Ferrari!
PEETS TIP
WATER! DRINK IT! DRINK AROUND 2 LITRES PER DAY, MORE IF YOU’RE THIRSTY. WATER MATTERS BECAUSE IT HELPS YOUR ORGANS TO FILTER OUT THE EXTRA KETONES THAT YOU DON’T USE. IT HELPS YOUR LIVER AND KIDNEYS GET RID OF WASTE AND TOXINS AND CARRIES VITAL NUTRIENTS TO YOUR CELLS. DRINKING WATER ALSO HELPS TO REDUCE BLOATING, SO WHILE 2 LITRES OF WATER WEIGHS AROUND 2 KG, THE ACT OF DRINKING IT WILL HELP YOUR BODY TO RELEASE WATER THAT YOU HAVE RETAINED IN YOUR CELLS. OH AND LASTLY, IT HELPS TO KEEP YOU FULL, SO JUST DRINK IT! ISSUE 14 | MARBELLAROCKS

What type of Fat should I eat or avoid in my Keto diet? GOOD VS. BAD Polyunsaturated fat Type: GOOD You can find polyunsaturated fats in Nuts, Seeds, vegetable oils such as Corn and Sunflower oil, and Fatty Fish. This category encompasses omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, which are known as essential fatty acids because our bodies don’t make them—we have to get them from food. Saturated fat Type: NOT SO GOOD Saturated fat increases total cholesterol and LDL and may boost your type 2 diabetes risk. Meat, Seafood, and Dairy products are sources of saturated fat. Some plant foods, like palm and coconut oil, also contain it. Animal or vegetable, saturated fat carries the same risks. When on a high fat diet we need to limit our saturated fat intake. Unsaturated fat Type: GOOD Unsaturated fats are mostly good guys— although trans fat is technically an unsaturated fat. However, healthy unsaturated fats are liquid at room temperature, while trans and saturated fats are solid. To increase your unsaturated fat, replace solids, like butter, with olive and vegetable oils, and swap red meat for Seafood or unsalted Nuts. (Seafood and nuts also contain saturated fat, but usually less than red meat.) Monounsaturated fats Type: GOOOOOOD Monounsaturated fats raise HDL (good cholesterol) and lower LDL. Canola oil, Olive oil, Peanut oil, Nuts, Seeds, and Avocados are good sources. Trade sour cream dip for hummus (which is rich in olive oil) or guacamole; use veggies or whole-wheat chips to dip. Try peanut oil in a stir-fry to jazz up your diet while helping your heart! Omega-3 fatty acids Type: BEST In the world of good fats, omega3s are superstars. They fight inflammation, help control blood clotting, and lower blood pressure and triglycerides. Fatty fish like albacore Tuna, Salmon, Mackerel and Sardines are good sources. Vegetable sources include Soy, Walnuts, and some Vegetable Oils. There are no specifics on how much you should consume, but the American Heart Association suggests eating at least two 3.5-ounce servings of fish each week. Trans fat Type: TERRIBLE/AVOID Trans fats are liquid oils bombarded with hydrogen so they stay solid at room temperature. They’re found in
80 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 14
many Processed and Fried Foods. Trans fats increase total cholesterol and LDL (bad cholesterol) and lower HDL (good cholesterol). Food manufacturers can say a product is trans fat free if it contains less than half a gram per serving. These can add up. Check a product’s ingredient list. If you see the words hydrogenated, partially hydrogenated, or shortening, it contains trans fat; you’re better off leaving it on the shelf. Now as mentioned earlier to place yourself in a state of Ketosis you have to cut out ALL carbohydrates, this will then in time force the liver to produce ketones and start to burn fat instead of carbs for energy. This process can take days if not weeks to fully adjust so expect to feel pretty groggy and fatigued in the beginning but stick through it and you will start to feel the benefits including: Freedom from hypoglycaemia (food fixations and sugar cravings) ● Lack of hunger ● Lower blood pressure ● Drop in cholesterol ● Weight loss ● Heartburn relief ● Improved sleep pattern
So what is the best ratio of Macronutrients (Protein, Carbs, and Fat) to consume to reach Ketosis?
As mentioned above, we now know that carbohydrates are going to ruin any attempt to go Keto so they are off the list. Protein should be kept minimal to fuel Protein Synthesis and this baby is all about the fats! I recommend a split of: ● 30% Protein ● 5% Carbs ● 65% Fat So in a 2,000 calorie diet you would be aiming at ● 600 Calories from Protein (150g) ● 100 Calories from Carbs (25g) ● 1,300 Calories from Fat (144g)
Bottom line
Simply cutting out carbs without consideration for your other Macros (Carbs and Fats) is a recipe for disaster and can actually make you hold more body fat. Today we have explained how important it is for you to add good essential fats into the mix to sustain a healthy, lean and energetic “No Carb” lifestyle. Give it a go and sweat out the cold turkey transition and by all accounts you will never look back.
HEALTH & FITNESS
WHAT IS
CORE STRENGTH?
P
eople often approach me for personal training saying they want to strengthen their core, and what they really mean is the want to firm up their stomach muscles. The stomach muscles only make up a small percentage of all the muscles that make up the core. The core is used in every single movement that we make. Having a balanced, strong core can improve how we move and how we look, it can reduce injuries and improve posture….so improving your core should be high on your list when you hit the gym. Basically, from the bottom of your ribs, to the top of the knee are all the muscles included in your core, the big ones being: OBLIQUE’S (SIDE OF YOUR WAIST)
ALL THE ABDOMINALS: the rectus (the top ones, or aka 6 pack, transverse, the deep ones or the ones that actually flatten the belly and protect the spine) HIP FLEXORS: in front of the hip bone GLUTEUS MAXIMUMS AND MINIMUS (bum muscles) HAMSTRINGS AND QUAD: (the big leg muscles at the front and back of the thighs.) ABDUCTORS AND ADDUCTORS: (inside and outside of the thighs.) SPINAL ERECTOR: (all the muscles that run up and down the spine)
82 MARBELLAROCKS | ISSUE 14
Plus, there are ther smaller muscles in-between. So when checking the core, there is a lot to look at, does someone lean to one side when walking, do their abdominals protrude giving them a pregnant look, are the quads stronger than their hamstrings, does someone have backache due to poor glute strength. Is someone’s body stronger on front muscles than on their back muscles? All the above and many, many more would indicate there was an imbalance, and a corrective plan could help improve the functional movement of the core. So, I have selected an exercise that shows whether someone’s core is working perfectly. I see this exercise done frequently in gyms and more often than not – it is done incorrectly.
Plank
I think all gym goers at some point do plank, it is quite a difficult exercise to master, done correctly it is a fab exercise for strengthening the following areas: shoulders, back, the entire ab section, glutes, quads and
PICTURE 1
all the back muscles. BUT, done incorrectly it can cause back, neck, hips and knee problems. PICTURE 1 is incorrect. The feet are not together, the hips have dropped, the bottom is not squeezed so the abs are not drawn in tight… all the pressure is in the shoulders back and knees. PICTURE 2 is also incorrect, the bottom is in the air and the head is dropped, again putting pressure on the neck and knees. PICTURE 3 is correct, the feet and thighs are squeezed firmly together, the bum is tight, the back flat and the shoulder retracted. Check the feet and the heels are pushed back, this is a total activation of all the major core muscle. To perfect plank you have to squeeze, and I mean squeeze everything, from gripping your hands, push down with your elbows, tense everything tight, draw the abs tight to you, tense your quads and

push the heels back and contract your leg muscles so that the knees push upwards and don’t go soft or buckled. Now stay still….see how long you can last…BUT remember to breath. Try and breathe without pushing the belly out, even panting can help, but remember to keep everything tight. This exercise requires practice, time each attempt, aim for 1 min, keeping your form strict, once you can do 1 min, aim for a total of 5 mins 4 times a week, you can break down your 5 mins into groups of manageable times. Do it at the beginning of your workout when your core is fresh, don’t do them at the end of the workout. The body will be tired so keeping strict form is extra difficult. Don’t continue if you lose form, stop, reset your form and start again. Remember….Consult with your GP before starting any new exercise regime, warm up, mobilise before each workout and cool down afterwards. bamboo RESTAURANT REVIEW O ne of the tastiest Thai and Sushi restaurants on the coast. You can´t beat Bamboo´s Tempura Prawns with a sweet sticky glaze - they are the best our reviewers have tried in over 6 years of living in Marbella. The prawns are large and tempura batter so light, fluffy yet crunchy - they literally melt in your mouth. Devine. Besides the prawns, one of the greatest things about Bamboo is its incredibly diverse menu incorporating the best of Thai, Japanese and Lebanese cuisine. There is literally something for everyone on this extraordinary menu. The Thai Red Curry is a must try, laden with tender chunks of chicken and a tangy but not too spicy sauce with diced, fresh vegetables. The Chicken Satay with Peanut

Dipping Sauce is a great option and if you order a selection of Thai Appetisers it makes an interesting selection to pick and share with a group of friends. The Salted Edamame and Gyoza in prawn, chicken or vegetable with soy dipping sauce are superb too. Another plus for this Marbella gem is that it employs various chefs for each different cuisine. The head sushi chef, Pietro, has a great reputation for being one of the best on the Costa del Sol, having worked at Fashion Sushi in Marbella and London. He highly recommends the Steak Tetaki or the Sushi Jumbo Roll, which has tempura prawns, salmon, tuna, wakame, cucumber and cream cheese is a firm favourite. Plus, the Salmon Deluxe with salmon, cream cheese, avocado, cucumber is another must
GASTRONOMY try. Bamboo has also just introduced new rolls with tomato, carrot and ginger paper for a twist on your normal sushi classics. If you fancy ordering from the Lebanese menu, the Kibbeh and Hummus are always popular or the Hamburgers on the lunchtime menu are a favourite among guests. Bamboo has standed the test of time with 8 years on the coast now, thanks to its ability to move with the times and consistently adding new events and delectable dishes to its menu. This year alone Bamboo has introduced Deep Sushi Parties every Saturday night where the best house DJ´s play deep house music to guests who are encouraged to stay and enjoy the party atmosphere. The restaurant also hosts regular fashion shows by top Marbella brands including Eline Collection, which is a Spanish based brand designed by the stunning Bamboo owner, Eline Keijer Aboutaka. The brand even has an on site boutique which showcases the latest collection of cashmere pashminas, scarves and handbags in beautiful dark wood mahogany cabinets. There are also regular live singing acts and a host of celebrity guests, including sports stars, footballers, singers and DJ´s. It may help the restaurant is located a stone´s throw from the fabulous Olivia Valere Nightclub opposite the Puente Romano Beach Club. Another great reason to come here if you´re looking for a good meal out with friends before hitting the town. Location, location, location! Plus there´s free parking just outside the restaurant. In summary, if you haven´t been to Bamboo it can be safely said you are missing out! The ambience, service, décor, food - not to mention those tempura prawns again - are fantastic. Be sure to pay a visit. Bamboo Restaurant is located on the Carretera de Istan km. 1 in the popular Centro Commercial Le Village, next to the Dynamic Gym. It is open Monday to Saturday from midday till 1am for lunch and dinner. Visit www.bamboomarbella. com or tel: 952 906 674 for reservations or to order a takeaway.

WELCOME TO DISMALAND
B
anksy, the world´s most famous street artist is at it again. Instead of his anarchic city graffiti, Banksy has taken over an entire disused lido in the British seaside town of WestonSuper-Mare to create an apocalyptic theme park. Dismaland, billed as “the UK´s most disappointing new visitor attraction” is a darkly comic snub at Disney World….featuring fun for all the family? No! A submerssive art experience that you will never see anything like again? Yes! Entrance to the park costs only £3 a person. The brochure describing the event sums up the experience: “Bring the whole family to come and enjoy the latest addition to our chronic leisure surplus—a bemusement park. A theme park who’s big theme is: theme parks should have bigger themes…
“This event contains adult themes, distressing imagery, extended use of strobe lighting, smoke effects and swearing. The following items are strictly prohibited: knives, spraycans, illegal drugs, and lawyers from the Walt Disney corporation.” As well as a shocking array of Disney-turnednasty attractions including a Cinderella crash sculpture, a boat full of refugees and a killer whale diving through a hoop into a paddling pool, staff have been appointed with “dismal” high vis jackets to hand out “I am an Imbecile” balloons to guests! There’s also a series of events including a show by Pussy Riot and Massive Attack on September 25th. As well as Banksy´s artwork, there are over 50 artists supplying material for Dismaland including Damien Hirst and Bill Barminski. The pop-up exhibition launched on August 22 and will run for 5 weeks.

The Art of True Success
M
oney matters. It enables possibility, wonderful experiences, opportunities for our children, and the objects of our desire. It can buy products and procedures to enhance beauty and transform appearance. It can attract acquaintances, popularity and attention. It gives the very best health care, and allows for stunning vistas and beautiful homes. But, in pursuit of crafting a masterpiece of financial success, there is one question that must be kept in mind: ‘What matters the most?’ When the outer appearance is not on show, when the business of our work and the addictive adrenalin buzz comes to a halt, in this moment of stillness and silence, when there is just the inner you; the truth so often ignored and hidden behind a guise of wealth, status and success, behind the masterpiece you have crafted and put on show to the world, what is there? If money matters the most, and all our energy has been given to this, if our self-value, happiness, faith, joy and love is built on this, if lost, we lose everything. This can lead to fatality, or living a life, a very wealthy and successful life, in fear of loss. There is no happiness here. It is my experience that secret to true success is to be able to go into the stillness and silence and find
PSYCHOLOGY
happiness. To achieve this means that we give the same energy, focus and dedication to cultivating a canvas of happiness as we do to our other creations. I have learnt that what makes my heart sing is simple; it is awareness and the choice to put my mind on the thoughts or vistas that bring serenity to my heart and a smile to my face and to hold onto these moments, and feel them. This can be enhanced by a fond memory or painting a wondrous dream on the canvas of my mind, full of faith on what can be, even when the fears are dancing in the shadows or events around me make me feel sad. I can retreat to my mountain, I can paint a wall of flowers and dancing butterflies on rocky walls, I can breathe in a sunset or choose to hold faith in my dreams. I can make time for gratitude or choose to accept the moment, to feel it, not fear it, be in it, embracing what is and choosing to create an upsurge of happiness using the power of my own mind. This art requires practice. I forget it a lot! But I know that it is the secret and that it is the way to true lasting success. Cultivating this awareness is a beautiful thing because all that it truly requires is practicing acts of love; holding kind thoughts and doing what makes you feel truly happy. I always knew money didn’t matter because I was brought up around miserable, angry and addictive
millionaires. I was not happy in that world and so I went in pursuit of happiness. It didn’t bring me much money to be honest, but eventually it did save my soul. Now I choose to develop a vision of wealth because I already know how to cultivate happiness, and I would like to build something that costs a lot of money, but if I don’t achieve it, I will be happy, and when I do, I will be happy with my beautiful dream. It is easy to be captivated by one painting, to give all the time in the world to forming a masterpiece, but no canvas can capture the fullness of life. What do you want your creations to evoke within you? Make time for them all. Paint many canvases in your life and colour them with all of your inspirations. Why limit yourself to a masterpiece when you can own a gallery of many great works of art. If when you go into the silence and the stillness the canvas before you does not bring you happiness, love and peace, perhaps a new canvas is awaiting your creation to enhance your collection. What is the most important thing, to you? If you are interested to enhance your life and embrace a more enriched kind of success, private coaching sessions are available with Antonia Behan in Guadalmina and Gibraltar: +34 620 741 361 www.antoniabehan.com.

Golden ticket to heaven anyone?
married couple in Florida, Tito and Amanda Watts, were arrested a few days ago for selling “golden tickets to heaven” to hundreds of people. They sold the tickets on the street for $99.99 per ticket, told buyers the tickets were made from solid gold, and that each ticket reserved the buyer a spot in heaven — simply present the ticket at the pearly gates and you’re in. Tito Watts said in his police statement: “I don’t care what the police say. The tickets are solid gold… And it was Jesus who give them to me behind the KFC and said to sell them so I could get me some money to go to outer space. I met an alien named Stevie who said if I got the cash together he’d take me and my wife on his flying saucer to his planet that’s made entirely of drugs. You should arrest Jesus because he’s the one that gave me the golden tickets and said to sell them. I’m willing to wear a wire and set Jesus up....” Amanda Watts said in her police statement: “We just wanted to leave earth and go to space and do drugs. I didn’t do nothing. Tito sold the golden tickets to heaven. I just watched.” Police said they confiscated over $10,000 in cash, drug paraphernalia, and a baby alligator.
JIMMY KUBON So they were arrested for taking advantage of stupid people??? BRIAN JONES Are we going to ignore this??? Why did they have a baby alligator?! SAMANTHA MCBRIDE Can´t believe he was gunna wear a wire and set Jesus up, the grassing bastard, Judas all over again ROGER MOORE I want to get high with them… CJ Cooper Who actually reported them to the police? A person who bought their ticket, got to heaven and it didn´t work so they rang the police? JL KATO My fear is that 1000 people who bought tickets are loose in the world. ALEX MCGUINNESS People are so stupid to buy a golden ticket to heaven…………don´t they know it’s the silver ones that get you in. PRINGLE MCBRUCE Lost my ticket!!!! I´m fucking devastated REBECCA RUTLAND Hey, I went to KFC and Jesus ain´t there. Jerry Garcia was there though…. He is selling time travel and Woodstock tickets. Can´t wait!!!!

ASTROLOGY
MARBELLA ROCKS ASTROLOGY FORECAST SEPTEMBER 2015
Aries
Gemini
Leo
Reality bites this month in that if you have been deluding yourself or living in a dream world - especially when it comes to lovers, then you are about to come down to earth with a bump. People will be revealed for exactly what they are - not what you would like them to be. The upside of this is of course that you either discover you have the real deal - or else this sets you free to go find just that. There’s nothing worse than labouring under an illusion or having the wool pulled over your eyes. Everything that occurs this month is likely to seem extremely personal but whatever you do, avoid a victim mentality. Fate has not singled you out for special treatment except to ensure that you don’t delay better prospects either in business or your personal life by blocking your path with timewasters. Enjoy the clarity of 20/20 vision in all relationships this month.
You could feel you have encountered that elusive soul that captures your heart and your mind this month - especially if you have been feeling that someone hit the ‘pause’ button on romance recently. Things may have looked promising but failed to go the distance, leaving you confused and uncertain as to why. All that could change now. However, when it comes to matters close to home as opposed to your heart, disruption and upheaval may loom with either people you live with apparently determined to do things that grate or demanding family members or guests who out-stay their welcome. If you’re moving however you’ve got the energy and focus to get things done but aside from that - discourage visitors or better yet - absent yourself completely. The beach is calling.
Have you been feeling “but what about me?!” Have you become the invisible lion? It’s not normal for you to be overlooked but the good news is that this month brings any oversights to an end. You may have to wait a little longer for the results and recognition you crave, but an increased flurry of communications alerts you that you are back on everyone’s radar again. That includes the romantic radar as well. Romance and partnerships start to take on a ‘fated’ quality with you being in exactly the right place at the right time as if guided to that spot. For those of you already involved it is time to either take your love to the next level or let it go. The same goes for work and professional opportunities. It’s not just about what you know - it’s who you know who is in a position to help you. There’s a soul contract going on with all of these scenarios. That’s not just amore - that’s karma.

A new love could beckon and may be found at a gathering or special event. Don’t be surprised if the two of you collide on the red carpet or in the spotlight in some way. Time also to think about turning that passion into a profession if you’re bold enough to take advantage of the many people and opportunities to strut your stuff that are coming your way. As regards to love and partnership matters - if you’re single we could be looking at you attracting the lasting kind. This is no time to keep to the sidelines or be shy. It’s time to sell yourself in on every level as whatever it is you have to offer, there is someone out there looking for just that right now. All it takes is confidence and you’re set to attract it. It’s not whether or not others believe in you, it’s whether or not you believe in yourself this month.
Are you afraid that if you go away or turn your back on events for even a short time you’ll be powerless to affect the outcome? Here’s the news - you’re powerless to affect the outcome - so no matter what changes may be going on this month. Staying home to keep a watchful eye on events won’t have any effect and you may as well heed any urging from your intuition that getting away from it all is the best course of action - even if it’s only for a day. Whatever changes are going on - especially if they revolve around your career or how you feel other people see you - in other words your reputation, it’s now out of your hands as circumstances now gain momentum. Let go and live in the moment and understand that what will be, will be.
I shouldn’t need to tell you that this month puts you on the cusp of a deep change or transformation Virgo as most probably you already know something is ‘up’. This could affect you on a very deep level and not only mark the start of a new, positive cycle for you but also affect how others see you - and how you see yourself. How we meet change always says a lot about who we are and this month shows just how capable you can be. Don’t shy away if offered a position of greater responsibility or power as you have earned it now. If you are single you could be drawn in by someone who you find mesmerising and may in fact not be your usual ‘type’ - but you find yourself powerless to resist. If so, consider this your change arriving in human form as it doesn’t matter whether the connection lasts or not - you will be changed by the encounter. If change doesn’t occur nothing can improve. Remember that no matter what form the change comes in.

There’s nothing sadder than someone born under the sign of partnerships who isn’t coupled up in some way. A lonely Libran somehow goes against nature. Most of you will try out every variant of a two-some during your lives - from that romantic one to a business partnership, a collaboration, an activity partner or that friend who just feels like a part of you. With your birthday comes an opportunity to get ‘coupled up’ in some way now so you no longer feel there’s something missing. Be warned however that room may need to be made for this person’s entry as something you may not like about an existing connection could be exposed. Think of this as leaving you unencumbered to enter into something new and better. You need to step forward into a new cycle with those who can support you, not someone who secretly holds you back. Don’t be afraid to ditch what doesn’t work and temporarily step into an unknown future. You won’t be solo long.
Romance and travel plans head back into high gear this month as your desire just to experience more passion overrides any restrictions. Love may not need to be lasting the now is what matters to you at present. Work and business matters demand your attention and you may finally see that overnight results just aren’t possible. Success comes from staying the course and working diligently. Commit to a career path or business idea to the long term and understand it needs nurturing to bear fruit. The final results may be two and a half years away but believe me - the will be worth it. It’s time to take yourself and your skills more seriously. Play hard in your down time but when it comes to being professional, show the world just how determined you can be. You may then just find all the support from those in positions of influence and the universe - that you need.
Will your friendships and connections stand the test of time? Over the next couple of years these are either going to be let go of or get locked in for the long term. New connections in positions of power or authority can be made now and these may have a big impact on you attaining those career goals. Don’t however be afraid to let go of those who no longer resonate or who you now see are on a different path. If you’ve been stuck in a love stalemate or Sahara, things move forward again now with you looking at a new beginning on some level either a fresh start for those coupled up or what could well turn out to be a significant and deeply mesmerising connection with someone new. Love can take you to places you never imagined you would journey now - in more ways than one.

If you’re looking for love this month friends and social situations offer you that romantic entrée. You’re determined to have more fun than usual now but don’t let that desire to party get out of hand as you may nurse more than one kind of hangover as a result! When it comes to your goals it’s time to apply some realism - and some action. Are you just dreaming and/or talking about what you intend to achieve or are you actually taking steps to turn the vision into a reality? You have what it takes now in the form of inspiration and that inventive pizzazz necessary. Don’t let this go to waste as you’ll regret it later as you look back and see you missed an opportunity. When it comes to romance too, make sure you’re not living in a dream world and if you connect with someone other than through friends who know them well, ensure that this person is everything they claim to be. A little caution and fact checking may not seem romantic - but it prevents heartbreak.
Who or what is working for you or against you may be the issue now as you suddenly discover where the true barriers to success lie. This could revolve around someone who you thought was on your side but it turns out they weren’t, or you could be hit with sudden clarity as you see where you have been holding yourself back. Use this insight. Big decisions could be made this month which stem from you seeing the overall benefits of change. If you’ve dug yourself into a rut, you now have the chance to get yourself out of it. Singles could meet their Mr. or Ms. Darcy who is not only ticking all those boxes but boosts their image and collateral. Is s/he really going out with him/her? You bet! You may feel you’ve known this person before and if so, consider the fact that many astrologers believe we have been with over 90% of the people in your lives at least once. Long live love.
Your passions may be stirred like never before as you encounter that lover like no other. Get ready for that big, no holds barred romance. You’re wearing your heart on your sleeve and leave the other party in no doubt as to your feelings but the great thing is that they reciprocate. This could be the start of that life and love-defining affair which has all the potential to last a lifetime. Any kind of two-some togetherness is favoured now and this includes business partnerships - or finding that ‘other half’ to collaborate with on something. If you’re 30 or over look back 12 years as to what was happening with partnerships and relationships back then. This will give you a clue as to what to expect now. You’ve changed in 12 years however so expect things to unfold slightly differently this time. One thing’s for certain however - you’ll benefit in some way by teaming up with another. Two’s company for the next 12 months.
