Frequently Asked Questions Q. What is your refund/cancellation policy? A. If programs are canceled by San Anselmo Recreation due to State or County COVID-19 guidelines, you will receive a full refund. If you register for a program and would like to request a refund, you must request it at least 10 business days before the start of the program. Each program registered for will incur a refund processing fee of $25 (per participant). Q. My child is on the waitlist, will they get in? A. We cannot make any guarantees regarding waitlisted participants, however, we will do our best to offer spots to as many children as possible. Open spots are filled in order from the waitlist depending on registration date and time. Q. Why only 14 participants per camp or class? A. San Anselmo Recreation is following all State and County guidelines for safely re-opening youth activity programs. The guidelines currently limit cohort size to 14 participants. Q. Is there before care or after care for the programs? A. At this time we are not offering before or after care for any of our summer programs, which falls in line with the state and county guidelines and not mixing cohorts. Q. Can you guarantee my child will be placed in a cohort with a friend or sibling if we request it? A. If your child is enrolled with a sibling in the same age group, yes they will be paired with their sibling in the same cohort. If you have requested a child be paired with a friend we will do our best to accommodate your request. However, please keep in mind numbers are limited and there is only so much we can do. Worst comes to worst it’s a chance for them to make new friends!! Q. What cleaning and safety protocols are the camps and programs following? A. All participants and instructors will be required to wear masks and social distance at all times. Hand-washing and equipment sanitization is also required. Please note safety protocols are subject to change based on state and county protocols. The State of California and Marin County have provided guidelines for safely reopening youth activity programs as part of its response to the COVID-19 emergency. As the Town of San Anselmo works to develop and operate its recreation programs in compliance with these guidelines, some programs may be restructured or cancelled. The Department will implement social distancing and mask wearing in all of our programs. Please check the San Anselmo Recreation Department website (https://www.townofsananselmo.org/305/ Recreation) for the most up-to-date information about our programs. Thank you!

Resiliency is something that Town of San Anselmo Recreation department knows about firsthand, especially when it comes to balancing health and safety, resources, and creativity to make a difference in the lives of our community members that we serve every day. This past year has been challenging for everyone, however, we made certain that open space, parks, sports, childcare and camps remained accessible to families and children who needed an outlet for restoring their physical and mental health. As we close the book on 2020 and look forward to 2021, we would like to share the exciting Progress we are making on the Memorial Park repairs and restoration. Memorial Park was initially developed as a baseball facility. Over the years, components were added such as, the picnic areas, the tennis courts, the playground, the Elder’s Garden and most recently the basketball court and skate plaza. The park is a beloved community hub for social gatherings, family activities, sports leagues, and many other activities, and has served the community well for many generations.

Playing Fields & Meadow The largest component of Memorial Park is the playing fields. These facilities include three baseball/ softball fields with dirt infields and a large natural turf area that is used for the baseball, softball, soccer, and for the many camps, classes and activities offered by the Recreation Department. The playing fields and meadow receive by far the greatest usage in the park and need substantial improvements to protect the health and safety of our users. The repairs to the fields and meadow will include improved drainage, a new irrigation system, and new turf with some grading. The new irrigation system will improve the maintenance of the turf and soil and will have a life expectancy of 30 to 50 years. The new turf will also make the fields and meadow safer for a wide variety of activities. This project has been approved by Town Council and will begin mid-August 2021 and is scheduled to be completed at the end of March 2022. The Recreation Department will continue to offer our annual fall camps, soccer league, and other sports by relocating all activities to local fields.

Millennium Playground Community Advisory Committee (MPCAC) Due to its constant use and the fact that many of the playground elements are made of wood, the playground needs repair. Town Council approved the formation of a Millennium Playground Community Advisory Committee (MPCAC). This committee will include two Town Council liaisons, three Parks and Recreation Commissioners and up to seven (7) residents. Staff is currently working with a playground safety inspector and any repairs needing immediate attention will be fixed. In addition to making the repairs, the Town is exploring potential opportunities to make improvements within the playground footprint with the intent of improving the playground for use by the community for the next twenty years. It our intention is to preserve the existing playground structures and layout. Any suggested improvements would be designed to enhance and complement the existing playground.

Skate Park Lastly, we are excited to announce that there will be a rehabilitation and rebuild of the Skate Park at Memorial Park. Skateparks foster a strong sense of community, build camaraderie among kids and families, and help keep our children active and healthy in a safe, secure environment. The project will meet the safety and standards for the latest skatepark design principles for skateboarders and scooters to develop their skills. The design will integrate with the existing skate park elements and will be designed for all age groups and ability levels. Thank you for all your support over the past year. We are looking forward to reopening many of our programs as the State and County COVID guidelines allow. San Anselmo has so many great things to offer, and you don’t want to miss out. Visit us at www.sananselmorecreation.org to create some great memories.

Arts Commission SPOTLIGHT During this pandemic year the Arts Commission has been gratified to be able to pivot to a focus on visual arts. They sponsored the PaintBox Public Art project along with community donations, which included eleven local artists, two of them being high school students. The painted utility boxes in a fantastic variety of designs using back, white and one color. Their interest in enlivening the downtown business district inspired them to create Art on the Avenue, filling at least one vacant storefront with a monthly art exhibit of local artists. They are currently outlining a plan for mural projects in the future, and continuing research and discussions on possible crosswalk art projects. Scholarships have been awarded to our local high-school aspiring artists, as well continuing their support of the non-profit Youth in Arts. Later this year they plan to continue their partnership with Cedars by working with them on this summer's Harmony art exhibit.

Back 2 Basics Summer Camp is a place where children will have the opportunity to make new friends, or sign-up with their current friends and make new memories. We offer a safe and welcoming space for children to interact with one another in a non-virtual world. Most importantly, our campers will have the ability to have fun and just be kids! Our days will be filled with everything from arts & crafts to outdoor sports and games. We will be following all state and county guidelines related to Covid-19.
