The Recreation Department is excited to announce
new programs for toddlers.
Our newest Recreation Coordinator, Veronica Hillard, will be teaching a variety of classes for our littlest Tots. They will play, learn and explore in the park. Veronica has over fifteen years experience designing early childhood curriculum and she is very excited to indroduce these courses to our community. Our two new early childhood classes are designed to build a community of caregivers and create an environment for little ones to socialize, play and learn. Teachers and caregivers will encourage early childhood development by guiding children to explore through stories, songs, sensory and art. Nature explorers will be hunting for bugs, bird watching and exploring the amazing plants and trees that surround Robson Harrington House. “Art in the Park” at Memorial Park will be focusing on sensory play and getting messy with painting, easel art and so much more.

AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT FALL 2022 AFTER SCHOOL HOOPS Grades K-4, 1-5
One on One
YOUTH
After School Hoops® is a weekday afternoon basketball program for aspiring young players. The one hour instructional sessions combine fundamental skills instruction with organized team competition with the goal of providing an enjoyable and educational after school athletic event. Developing players benefit by improving their individual skills such as passing, dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and defending while, at the same time, learning how to work within the framework of a team. Boys and girls of all skill levels are encouraged to join. One of the many merits of After School Hoops® is that it provides school children with an organized after school event at which they can learn, socialize, and most of all, have fun. Parents and teachers often express concern that idle and unsupervised after school hours provide too many negative temptations for their children. Using athletics as the vehicle, After School Hoops® provides children with an opportunity to improve their overall physical fitness, develop sportsmanship and athletic integrity, and gain an understanding of the game of basketball.

More than just a game of winning and losing, we make learning chess fun!
Beth Touchette
This class provides a great introduction to physical science and the senses. First, for the flash, we learn about light, making shadow prints and seeing all the colors of rainbow. Then, we play with reflections and lenses. Then we compare animal eyes and learn how much fun it is when our eyes are tricked. For the zap, we explore static electricity and electrical circuits. For the boom, we will investigate sound, by making spinning buzzy bees and Pan pipes and learning how bats echolocate, and how our own ears work. For the bubble, we create a variety of concoctions, including glow in the dark slime. Through discovery-based science learning, your child will explore the natural world with a fun, credentialed science teacher. Class size is capped at nine students to ensure quality instruction. Beth Touchette is a credentialed science teacher with 25 years’ experience and a local mom.

TEEN LIBRARY COUNCIL MEETS MONTHLY
My name is Jennie Waskey and I am your Youth Service Librarian here at the beautiful and historic San Anselmo Public Library. I serve children and teens in San Anselmo. Recently, in September of 2020 I had a child of my own and Charlie enjoys coming to his mom’s storytimes on Saturdays. I have worked with and for children for most of my work history, spanning from the college daycare to nanny, to teacher assistant to teacher, to Youth Service Librarian. Pairing books and programming together with young people has been a dream come true. I am fascinated by how stories can transport us and alter our universe and I remember this starting to happen for me as a young person. When you do not find me at the library, you can find me with a nose in a book or exploring Marin’s parks, trails and playgrounds. I enjoy walks with my family, finding hidden stairways and walkways, persisting with gardening, listening to records and radio, and snuggling with my cat.
This group has the freedom to decide what they would like to do with their time serving on the Council. Past activities include discussing books, movies, and music, creating library displays, writing book reviews, helping with library events, planning and implementing programs for children and/ or teens, and giving input on library issues related to teens. If you are in 7th-12th grade and interested in joining or have questions please email Jennie at jwaskey@townofsananselmo.org.
