plan your day. Go to www.sandiegofamily .com/things-to-do/ out-about/san-diegoinsider-tips for info about the Youth Opportunity Pass. Take the trolley to Padres games for minimal hassle getting to and from Petco Park.    Adventure seekers of all ages enjoy a plethora of bikefriendly paths with coastal views and noteworthy stops. Mission Bay Bike Path offers a 12-mile flat, paved loop along the bay. No bike? No problem. Rentals are available at several resorts around the bay. Other scenic bike trails include Bayshore Bikeway, Coastal Rail Trail from Encinitas to Oceanside, and Balboa Park Loop. If relaxation is more appealing, take a ferry ride from downtown (board at Broadway Pier or the Convention Center) for a 15-minute excursion to Coronado Ferry Landing.    Train enthusiasts might consider Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner for a scenic trip up the coast to San Luis Obispo. Or, take the Coaster from downtown San Diego to one of the county’s charming seaside towns like Solana Beach or Carlsbad, where an abundance of art, food and shops await.   However you get around, we wish you sunny skies and smooth sailing!

Of course, there are tons of beautiful beachfront accommodations up and down the coast, from Coronado to Oceanside.

If camping is more your vibe, Silver Strand, Campland on the Bay, San Elijo and South Carlsbad State Beaches are popular waterfront campgrounds, but reservations require advance planning. Or head for Julian, San Diego’s favorite mountain getaway, to enjoy a tent or RV site or rustic cabin at Lake Cuyamaca or William Heise County Park. Read our article Best Family Camping in San Diego for more local campgrounds and resources: www.sandiegofamily.com/ things-to-do/travel/familycamping-in-san-diego. Whether you’re a longtime local eager to explore a new neighborhood or your family is visiting for the first time, we invite you to treat San Diego as your home away from home.

We recommend perusing the map on page 4 to get an overview of the county, flip through the regions to determine what each has to offer, then decide where you’d like to spend the day.
