What is happiness except the simple harmony between a man and the life he leads? ~Albert Camus

Oh Lord Thank You That I Am Broken... I am so glad that I am faulty though that you cast me aside and count too unworthy to be fixed Master's hand.

not so would me as by the

The ones who deem themselves so perfect as to not need a savior are the ones in real trouble. It is only the broken who are redeemable. The Master chooses everyone of us to be redeemed, however many of us do not choose to allow the redemption so freely offerred. Love only works if the street is travelled in both directions and never by force. Broken people are ready and willing to accept help. Until you know you are broken, most of us choose to run our own lives without any interference from God or anyone else. Will you give the Master permission to work on your redemption today? As you can see - He is capable of creating beauty so jawdroppingly amazing that we can barely take it all in. Wonder what He could do with you if you let Him?

GOOD FOOD

Banjo Pickers – The sandwich that’ll make you sing! I normally don’t care for sandwiches for supper because when we were little, sandwiches were what we had when we didn’t have anything “good” to eat. Sandwiches were a backup plan or a budget fall back.

This is not one of those sandwiches. “A little background on the Banjo Picker:

"Hi, my name is Christy Jordan and I like to feed people."

There is this restaurant in Decatur, Alabama called “The Brick” that I hardly ever get to go to. It is a sandwich place in a brownstone building downtown and everything they serve is wonderful. My favorite sandwich on the menu is the “5 Finger Banjo Picker”. Since I don’t get to go there as often as I’d like (I’m doing good to make it out once a year!) I have to make my own version at home. While my Banjo Picker is a little different, it’s every bit as good to me and I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. So I hope you get to make this at home soon and next time you find yourself around Decatur, Alabama you can stop in at The Brick and compare!

There are over 1000 recipes with step by step photos on SouthernPlate.com right this very minute and they are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, free of charge.

Instructions 1. Cut your sausage into two inch segments and cut each segment in half lengthwise. Place these in a large skillet over medium high heat and cook, turning as needed, until lightly browned on both sides. 2. Slice bread open lengthwise and lay open on baking sheet. Spread one side with mayo and one side with mustard. Arrange 5 cheese slices over bread. Top one side of bread with sauerkraut and pepper slices. Place browned kielbasa slices on bottom half of bread loaf. 3. Place in oven at 350 for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and bread is toasted. Remove from oven. Close sandwich and cut into four smaller sandwiches. Serve warm with kettle potato chips or a nice bowl of white beans. Makes 4 generous sandwiches.

Step by step instructions, photos and sometimes even videos can be found for all of Christy's recipes at www. southernplate.com

I set out to write the one cookbook that I myself would use the most when it came to planning suppers for my family- I hope you'll find it as useful as I intended it to be. Please keep in mind, though, that the recipes in this book and the meals you and I make are really just a tool to bring our families and friends together. Because at the end of the day, the supper table is where we teach our families where they came from and they let us know where they hope to go. Values, heritage, history, dreams, and encouragement are passed around with the serving platters and roots grow a little deeper with each bite. We may have high hopes and aspirations when we set off into the world each morning, but if you really want to make the world a better place, end the day by coming home to supper.

GOOD ADVICE

The Door We Forget To Open We often lose sight of the incredible blessings we have because the small hitches and drawbacks of life tend to overshadow them in the daily requirement to deal with them. (When we have a problem we must address over and over, we can’t help but keep it at the forefront of our thoughts.) That is why it is important to actively call out our blessings each day. To pull them from the back of our minds, from that area we don’t think about because it hums steadily along without much need for attention. We have to make being grateful a verb (or verb phrase, as Katy and I learned a few weeks back ;) ). I am grateful that I have a family. I am so very grateful for each precious life that lives beneath this roof. I am grateful for this roof. After visiting people who live in houses with walls of black plastic and roofs of the same, I know that my home is a sanctuary and a palace to most folks in this world. I am grateful for my wonderful dogs and my sweet cats. I am grateful that my children don’t have to go to bed at night hungry. I am grateful for a blue sky that will come after this beautiful moon slips back into the horizon. I am grateful for my Mama and for the opportunity I have to know her as a person and to call her friend. I am grateful for a world that has compassionate and fierce hearts that will stand up to in justice. I am grateful for God’s word and wisdom and I am grateful that He answers when I call…and I’m grateful that I don’t *always* wait ten forevers until I realize I need to call on Him. The blessings are there. It is like a door that we keep shut but if we open it, they tumble out like the stuff in my bedroom closet when I was a teenager and Mama threatened to make me stay home if my room didn’t get clean ;) Don’t forget to open the door today!

MAN CAVE Greetings fellow gun aficionados, I normally do NOT trade in my guns or sell them for that matter, but for some time I’ve had two Glock Model 19 pistols in my little armory. One wears aftermarket ghost ring night sights and the other one is stone stock. I use the one with the ghost ring sights as a duty weapon, and it stays close to the bed in case someone or something goes bump in the night. The other one is not used for anything, so I decided to trade it off for a Glock 26, which is simply a smaller Glock 9mm. What led me to this choice? Several years ago, I had a baby Glock 27 in .40 caliber that I carried as an off duty gun for several years and I really liked it. I qualified with it numerous times and it was lightweight and easy to shoot. One caveat to that statement is that it’s easy to shoot, if you’re in your prime and are used to shooting handguns all of the time. Now that I’ve gotten significantly older, I carry nothing but 9mm handguns for serious business and occasionally I carry a S & W .380 Body Guard where proper etiquette in a social setting and hot Texas weather dictates you carry a small well concealed firearm. I gave this Glock Model #27 .40 caliber to my baby daughter when she graduated from the police academy to compliment her issue service weapon, a .40 caliber Glock #22 a few years ago. However, some low life miscreant broke into her home and stole it. Since it remains unrecovered, I'm doubting I'll ever see it again. So I loaded up my excess Glock 19 and headed off to Shooters Corner gun shop in Texas City with the intention of trading it off for a Glock 26 that I had seen in their gun case several days before. I was a day late and a dollar short though. Just as I walked

A GLOCK in a BOX LE Glock 26, Gen I ! II

in the door I saw a gentleman filling out his federal 4473 form for his new Glock 26. No problems though. The store owner, Jerry Tkac said he could order me a Law Enforcement Version Glock #26 and it would arrive in a few days. Four days later, I had my new Glock in hand and I headed home a happy camper. The LE Glock 26, Gen III model, doesn’t appear to be any different than a civilian version. I assume the primary difference is that Glock discounts their prices for the LE version because you have to prove you are a police officer to buy one at that price. Continued on page 24.

GOOD FOOD = GOOD TIMES!

Wed. - Sun. 11:00 am - 9:00 pm Lunch, Dinner and Drinks Any time you can order a steak cooked medium well and have  it not come out burnt it's always a good sign We got a lead on this place, followed it up one Sunday afternoon and we are happy to report that it passed with flying colors. It's a great family place with a whole lot of character, plenty of good food and full of people visiting and laughing after church. It's situated right off the railroad tracks in downtown Danbury in a century old building, complete with a stage for entertainers and antique covered walls. We ordered the hand breaded chicken fried chicken breast with broccoli and rice casserole and a squash medley. They have real vegetables on the menu and fried shrimp on a child's plate. Both are worth mentioning since most places don't bother with either anymore.

We also ordered the ribeye steak as you can see. And yes, it was as perfect as it looks and the onion rings are homemade. The steak was tender, flavorful and not drowned in any sort of marinade. Just delicious 100% beef and a pretty good baked potato too. The third plate is a chicken fried steak sandwich that actually made the grade. It was tender and well seasoned. Overall - this is a great place to bring your family if you're looking for real home cooked food. The Galloping Foodie is always looking for new places to try within a 100 mile radius of Houston, Texas. If you know of a Mom and Pop that serves up GOOD FOOD and needs some free advertising - let us know by email at lynn@santafegoodnews.com and maybe we can feature them in an upcoming issue of the Good News.

The pistol came with two 10 round magazines. I noticed that the inside of the magazines have a steel lining. This is new to me because all of my other Glocks are Gen I models and they don't have that. There is also a magazine loader which makes loading the tenth round a little easier. After loading ten rounds, I pointed the muzzle in a safe direction, racked the slide back and loaded up a round.

designed to ensure the pistol cannot fire unintentionally due to inertia or any impact. The trigger must be moved completely to the rear to deactivate these safeties. Once released, all 3 safety features reengage and the pistol is automatically secured again. Having explained this, what it all comes down to is having the mental capacity to always - KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO FIRE SAFELY.

I like to carry my off duty pistol on my left hip, gun butt forward in what they call the “Calvary Style”. I went to my computer and looked up the website for the holster system called Clip draw at www.clipdraw.com. This unique metal clip allows you to tuck your pistol into your waist band and have it remain where your place it. I had one of these on my previous Glock #27 and it worked great.

I recall that when Glock first hit the firearms market, I wrongly believed that they were made out of cheap plastic and probably wouldn’t hold up under rough use. The GLOCK, non-fiberglass reinforced polymer frame helped revolutionize the handgun industry by delivering a new standard in high-impact resistance, durability, and extended life—all while reducing weight by a full 90%. Stronger than most metals, polymer is temperature neutral, requires less maintenance, and most I can leave my shirt tail out of my blue jean shorts, users report substantially less felt recoil than with metal and operate normally with a secure feeling that my gun is frames. not going to run down my pants leg and clatter across the floor. I’ve been using the clip draw for a very long time “The only thing guns have to fear is rust and politicians”. and I can wholeheartedly recommend it as a good way to carry a concealed weapon. However, it must be said that This quote hangs over the gun rack at Shooters it’s not a fast draw holster and if you’re not highly trained Corner and it’s absolutely true. I did hear a story from a deputy sheriff of a neighboring county that said that his Glock pistol jammed on him during a gunfight with some home burglars. I talked to him for a while and I finally got him to admit that he was limp wristing his Glock #21 .45 ACP, and that caused a failure to feed jam. What do I know for sure? There is no one who can save us. Not our parents, our grown kids. doctors, spouses, our friends or the government. No one can save us, but God. In our midnight hour, no one has the power to save us like God does. They might help us and ease or relieve some of our burdens, but they can't save us. You do what you want to, but as for me and my house - we will serve the Lord. I know that it doesn't matter if I'm on a mountain top in Idaho or in the river bed of the San Saba deep in the heart of Texas, God is there with me. I know that life can be hard sometimes, but I never have to face it alone ever. I know that people can be very cruel and that those same people can also be very kind. Sometimes, I can be just like those people. I know that renewing our minds daily is the only way to survive this life very well. One dose of God's word won't heal all of our wounds or carry us through more than one day at a time. One prayer most times won't avail much, but constant prayer will give us all the help we need to be able to share the load with the one who designs our days. I also know that I am much nicer, stronger and more faithful than I appear to be on the surface. I know that I don't know how to love people like God does. I know I'm a total failure at that. I know that if I hadn't had God holding my hand these last 30 years, I know I wouldn't still be here today. And I wish I knew the height, depth and breadth of God's love for me... I bet that would be an awesome thing to know! What do you know for sure? If you would like to share your wisdom you may do so by emailing us at lynn@santafegoodnews.com

Unclaimed Property Tax Refunds According to a Good News! recent search of Texas

r o m

Comptroller Glenn Hegar’s Unclaimed Property Website (ClaimItTexas.org), there are “…more than 25 million properties…about $4 billion in missing money waiting to be claimed” and it is “never too late to make a claim.”

Putting the Genie Back in the Bottle...

The Comptroller is making it easier than ever to find lost items and Galveston County Tax Assessor Collector Cheryl E. Johnson decided to do the same.

How do you teach modesty to a child that has worn bikinis and halter tops since she was 3?

“Our two-tier process will begin with uncashed refund checks and will be followed by property tax refunds we have been unable to determine who to send the funds to,” she stated. According to Texas law, it is the tax collector’s job to determine who is paid a refund. “Often,” Johnson stated, “we receive duplicate payments and when neither payor makes a claim after multiple attempts, it falls on our shoulders to determine who the rightful owner actually is or to simply send or escheat the funds to the State which makes it much harder for the rightful owner to claim the funds. We are taking one additional step with a newly released webpage listing.”

How can you say "NO" to anything to a teenager who acts like he has never heard the word before? Can you reign children back in when you realize they have apparently been given too few boundaries?

About two years ago, Johnson and her team began a mission to identify the proper owner on hundreds of duplicate payments dating back to the 2004 tax year. “After months of research and decision making, we were left with 255 refunds totaling just over $144,000. We were preparing to escheat them, but then decided to make this last ditch effort to lower that number,” she said. Phase One rolled out last weekend with over 600 uncashed refund checks totaling nearly $162,000 that have either been returned or remain uncashed. Only the property address (or legal description) will be posted along with the year the refund was generated. Current and former owners of the listed properties simply need to search the listing by visiting the GCTO website at www.galcotax.com and clicking on the UNCLAIMED REFUNDS button. If you own or owned a property on this list the year the refund occurred, email Refunds@co.galveston.tx.us. Proper identification and proof of ownership (i.e. copy of deed, deed of trust, will, utility bill, voter registration certificate, Texas drivers license or ID or other document that includes the address of the property for the year shown) is required for the refund to be reissued. Those without access to the internet may obtain a listing of the properties at any GCTO office along with an Application for Unclaimed Refund form that may be dropped off at any GCTO location or mailed to: GCTO UNCLAIMED REFUNDS, 722 Moody, Galveston, Texas 77550. Only written requests in the form of application or email with proper documents attached will be accepted. The 2015 tax season is underway and responses will not be immediate. Someone will contact you within a couple of weeks to confirm the status of your claim. Cheryl E. Johnson, RTA

We truly look forward to clearing our books and paying YOU instead of you paying US!

You cannot put some things back in the bottle after they have been let out. It's like trying to get your virginity back, it can't be done. What you can't do is - not give up. Almost all decent people got off track at some point. What you can do is... start wherever you are. When you realize the Genie (or several of them) have escaped - its still not too late. Never ever give up on your children or yourself. There is no pit so deep that anyone can't be saved from. We can do anything that we set our minds to and our children are worth it.

You can't REALLY help someone who doesn't want help. God can't and won't do for me what I have to do for myself. He won't keep throwing money at me just because I'm too lazy to work for it. He won't fix everything in my life for me while I lay around and do nothing. That must be where the saying "God only helps those who help themselves" came from. This is why welfare is abused. You can collect it without ever having to lift a finger to help yourself. There is something about effort that is rewarded and allows for progress.
