Joy is LOVE on display.... If you think about it, every time we experience overwhelming joy in our lives it's usually because we are focused on something, someone, or some memory that we love. Joy is defined as a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. What we love deeply always brings us great joy. We love the Christmas season because it surrounds us with GREAT LOVE that we wish would last year round.
Every card, carol, smile and gift is about the great love we have and share with one another and all of it brings us GREAT JOY! That babe in the manger - He is responsible for all of it. He paid the ultimate price for the greatest gift ever given to mankind.

Christmas light displays bring us GREAT JOY! CLICK HERE to watch the video.
Perhaps God himself created old St. Nick, it wouldn't surprise me at all. The lights, the music, the gifts and the food make it our largest and longest celebration of the year. And we put HIM in the center of the spotlight every year. I don't think that has occurred by accident. Celebrating anything brings us joy as a general rule, but celebrating our faith... that is the ultimate celebration. Christmas allows us the opportunity to practice loving one another publicly, freely and lavishly. We are expected to be kind, generous and full of love and joy, the season requires it. How great is that? As we love each other this Christmas season like we are supposed to please SHARE your JOY with those who may be running short of it this year. Joy is always FREE to share ... won't you be a carrier of it today?
If you live in the area, you can see it all LIVE on the corner of Beriton & Cark in Santa Fe, Texas. This wonderful display is put up every year courtesy of Jake Linkey. He's done it for over 30 years and it brings us GREAT JOY! Many thanks to Mr. Linkey, we appreciate all your effort every year!
You can't remove sorrow from the world, but you can choose to live in JOY.

“Are we there yet?”
It was the 20-something-th time I had heard that oh-so-common road trip question asked by my 5-year-old son. By this time, I was bound and determined to distract him from whether we were there or not by pointing outside the car window and saying, “Look, honey! Isn’t the snow on the trees pretty?”
He wasn’t particularly amused, but it did get his mind off the long drive for a moment or two. We were heading to Priest Lake, Idaho. It was the second time for our “occasional tradition” to head to the lake for Christmas. We were meeting my family at a cabin on the lake. The wild beauty in which we would become enveloped was worth the long drive. There was snow everywhere, and the magical hush that only snowcovered fields and partially-frozen lakes bring took my breath away. That Christmas trip was particularly special. My sister had arranged a surprise for us - a group Christmas present that we’d all remember for years to come. We were going on a sleigh ride. As we slowly pulled into the icy parking lot, we could see the horses pawing at the frozen ground, neighing quietly in anticipation. In the covered area, a bright, blazing fire crackled, beckoning our travel-weary bodies to its warmth, and a festive, welcoming table was covered with a bright red table cloth and oodles of cookies and cocoa - the perfect way to relax while waiting to board the sleigh. Of course, the cookies were what caught my son’s attention. I grabbed him just as he was trying to bound out of the van, wrapped him in a scarf and hat, and tossed him his coat and mittens as he bolted to the goodies. Laughing, my husband quickly joined him, and I

followed soon, carrying our 14-month old, sufficiently-bundled daughter. My family was there, waiting for us, playfully teasing us about dawdling, as if we had a choice when trying to bundle little kids! With cocoa cups in hand, we boarded the sleigh. I had to laugh to myself when I saw the overjoyed smiles on everyone’s faces, and knew that my smile was just as big. This was a dream-come-true! I/WE were getting to ride in a sleigh - JUST LIKE SANTA! It was truly a magical moment. The driver didn’t say a whole lot, but gently eased the horses and sleigh into motion. At first, we went slowly. The snowflakes were giant and well-defined as they softly drifted all around us. We could see the individual patterns of each one that landed on our scarves. The bells on the horses’ harnesses made a gentle chiming sound with the slow walking pace the horses were taking. Gradually, we began to pick up speed. The bells got louder, and the horses let out an occasional whinny of delight at being able to go a bit faster. Everyone giggled like children, even the adults, and then, as if on cue, we all began to sing “Jingle Bells”.
by Cresta Ogle
For the first time, we all really understood exactly what the songwriter, James Lord Pierpont, meant to convey in his song - what dashing meant, why everyone was laughing all the way, why the bells made everyone’s spirits bright, and how FUN it is to ride in a sleigh!
All the Way! 9 Santa Fe Good News
Our raucous rendition of “Jingle Bells” came to a close just as the horses were pulling back towards the covered area. We all sighed with contentment, and, just then my 5-year-old son turned to me and said, “Mommy, this is the best Christmas ever.” I agreed.

Christmas...
It’s almost here!
I know this time of year we get to bustling about. Trying to find one more gift, get everything wrapped, get any last minute groceries we need in anticipation of Christmas morning. But a long time ago, on that very first Christmas, the earth grew silent in the middle of the night as a star rose in the sky and angels appeared to shepherds to tell them the glorious news. "Hi, my name is Christy Jordan and I like to feed people."
It was a silent night a holy night all was calm. Rather than rush about, the earth stilled. And a multitude of angels began praising God singing “Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.” Each time I think about that I find myself stopping, my breath catching in my throat as I think about that night and what it meant for all of mankind.
CLICK HERE! If you missed this in last month's issue of the Good News it's not too late to still get some of them accomplished!
On Christmas Eve, make sure you take a moment to go outside in the stillness of the evening, look up at the sky, and imagine that star appearing to you. Imagine what it must have been like for the shepherds to suddenly see an angel and hear his voice declare “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord…” Take a moment to still your heart, still your spirit, and feel the reverence of the silent and holy night. 10 Santa Fe Good News

Chocolate Chip Cloud Cookies Ingredients •2 Egg Whites •Pinch Cream of Tartar •¾ cup sugar •24 ounces chocolate chips •¼ teaspoon salt •Colored sugar sprinkles (optional)
No matter how much I love cooking, there is always a special thrill when I make something that I know people are going to get excited about. That’s why I love these cloud cookies so much :). They got their name from my nephew, Austin about eight years ago. I’ve always been a fan of meringue cookies and I whipped up a batch when Austin was over at my house and decided to stir some chocolate chips into them before baking. Austin waited patiently while they cooked and then took one bite and declared them just like clouds – with the added bonus of chocolate chips! So if you want to be the cool aunt/mama/ grandmama/daddy/uncle who knows how to bake chocolate chips into clouds…I got ya covered today!
Instructions 1. In a small mixing bowl, beat egg whites, cream of tartar, and salt until soft peaks form. 2. Add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. 3. Gently fold in chocolate chips. 4. Drop by level tablespoonful onto greased baking sheets. Sprinkle lightly with sugar, if desired. 5. Bake at 300 for 20-25 minutes or until meringues are dry and crisp. 6. Cool on baking sheets for two minutes, then remove to wire racks to cool completely. 7. Store in airtight container. *Be sure you grease your cookie sheets!
Last Minute Gifts From The Kitchen Gingerbread Scented Play Dough is at the top of my list because it has been such a big hit for us this year. I keep turning out batches and the requests keep pouring it. This is simple and inexpensive to make, but the reactions are priceless. Pair it with a few cookie cutters for play dough fun and you’ve got a gift that will still be played with long after the decorations have been put away. Snowman Soup Kits are actually hot chocolate made with my recipe for homemade hot chocolate mix, which I received from my first grade teacher (Thank you, Mrs. Menotti!). But you can just as easily assemble the kits with purchased packets of hot chocolate mix. S’Mores Kits are great as a little thoughtful gift for coworkers too. Holly Jollies are simple chocolate candy with limitless options. I make them in mini muffin papers and package them in party favor bags, mason jars, or even decorative Christmas tins. Tiger Butter – THIS is my absolute go to candy for Christmas gifts due to: 1. How good it tastes, 2. It is my kids favorite 3. How quick it is to throw together. Each year I lose track of how much Tiger Butter I make and this year is no different. Continued on page 13.

I set out to write the one cookbook that I myself would use the most when it came to planning suppers for my family- I hope you'll find it as useful as I intended it to be. Please keep in mind, though, that the recipes in this book and the meals you and I make are really just a tool to bring our families and friends together. Because at the end of the day, the supper table is where we teach our families where they came from and they let us know where they hope to go. Values, heritage, history, dreams, and encouragement are passed around with the serving platters and roots grow a little deeper with each bite. We may have high hopes and aspirations when we set off into the world each morning, but if you really want to make the world a better place, end the day by coming home to supper.

Last Minute Gifts From The Kitchen
Continued from page 11. Red Velvet Cake (Or green, in our case.) The recipe we use is a family favorite that was given to us by a dear friend. We use green food coloring because my grandmother was allergic to red. Even though Grandmama is no longer with us, the green velvet is still made in memory of her. My recipe for this absolutely delicious homemade velvet cake I wrote out for cupcakes, but when I make it as a cake I just bake it in a sheet pan or two 8 or 9 inch round layer pans and bake at the same temperature until it springs back when lightly touched in the middle, about 10 minutes longer than the cupcakes. Velvet cakes make a wonderful Christmas gift. A few nights ago I made four of them in an evening. Sugar and Spice Pecans are great gifts if you are blessed with an affordable (or free) source of pecans. Nothing beats a small tin of these cinnamon spiced sugar coated beauties. If you have peanuts but not pecans – they work too. Place in a treat bag and tie with curling ribbon for an economical way to give them. Don’t forget Cream Cheese Divinity and Cream Cheese Mints! Both of these candies only require mixing a few simple ingredients together in a mixing bowl and are no fail perfection. Quick Breads make excellent gifts as well. You can purchase large bread bags to put them in on the same aisle as the ziplock bags. They come with twist ties or you can use curling ribbon for them. My top suggestions would be Banana Bread or Amazing Apple Bread. When I have a lot of people to bake for, I make mini loaves rather than full size. Each full size loaf recipe will make about 4 mini loaves, but if you have larger mini loaf pans it will make fewer, of course. Mini loaves can be packaged in the little party treat bags. All of these recipes as well as many more can be found on my website at one link - right here. 13 Santa Fe Good News

It's Christmas ... Do I have to put up with them again?
I will never forget what he did to me or how she talked to me, but I can't write them off.
I'd like to, but I can't.
There are a few people, (more than I would like to admit,) that I would love to just write off. I'd like to erect a large thick wall and tell them not to even think about trying to re-enter my life. They have done something awful. Either they treated me or someone else badly or have spoken unkindly or have done any number of things that I consider unforgivable or at the very least ungodly. But yes, I do have to put up with them again this year and every year for that matter. Why? Because God never wrote me off. He hung in there and stood by me. God never gave up on me even all those times I gave up on myself. He never shut me out of his life just because I behaved awfully. Who do I think I am that I have the right to give up on others? I'm not saying I'm gonna make them my BFF (best friend forever), but I don't have the right to shut them out and then call myself a follower of Christ. I don't believe we are required to stay in abusive situations, although Jesus did. I believe that God will always provide for us a way to love the unlovely, even if it sometimes requires some new boundaries being established. I don't think we should ever completely give up on people. What if one day God changes them just like he changed me? They are free to walk away, but we are not... not if we want to call ourselves Christians.

Signs Kids are Struggling with Entitlement...
I finally wrapped a couple of gifts and put them under the tree. I don’t know about your house, but the minute I do this every year, my kids get really interested in what’s happening under the tree. Curiosity kills my kids. And the cat. “Mom, when are you taking us shopping to buy gifts for you and Dad?” one of my kids asked. “Do you have money to buy gifts?” I asked. Eery silence. “Well, I was thinking you could give us money. Um, to buy your gifts with,” came the answer. Every month we give our kids money and it’s up to them to buy things they want (we provide things they need and also many wants). When I reminded my daughter of this, she said, “Oh, I wanted to buy a cute Christmas shirt with my money.” Ah, choices.
Hi, I'm Kristen.
and what to do about it!
Money For Christmas Gift List" and stuck it on our family memo board. I mentioned it once and waited to see who really wanted to give gifts this season. In our culture, it’s hard not to let entitlement creep into our homes and lives. It’s especially challenging not to fuel the expectations of our kids by our own parenting choices to make life easy for them and give them everything they want. We struggle with the “you owe me” mantra in our home. I’m writing about this because it’s an issue we really battle. But the first step is admitting it.
and they are worshipped in our culture. The Present by Spencer Johnson
The gift that makes you happier and more successful at work & in life.
Dr. Johnson, famous for writing "Who Moved My Cheese" has produced yet another very GOOD read and at just 103 pages - it's a quick read too! But don't let the small size fool you, the information in this little jewel is worth your time. If you were taught to multi-task, THIS is the cure for it & he explains why you should stop it now! Without giving away the story, he explains very simply how to get the most out of your life. Just as he did in his first bestseller, you are left wondering why you didn't figure out the truth of what he is saying sooner. And it's a really GOOD DEAL on Amazon at press time - the shipping costs are more than the book!
This book is a most enjoyable read for anyone who has spent a lifetime being married. The candid truth about growing older together is mixed with grand humor and some of the plot twists bring on the waterworks, but it's a real GOOD read. Excerpt: This, our last trip, was appropriately planned at the last minute, the luxury of a retiree. It is one that I'm glad I decided we take, although everybody (doctors, children) forbade us to go. "I strongly, strongly advise against any type of travel, Ella," said Dr. Tomaszewski, one of the seemingly hundreds of physicians currently

What a Wonderful EXAMPLE... a LIFE Well Lived!
What will you be doing on your 99th birthday? Will you be volunteering at a food pantry? Will you be teaching a Sunday School class? Will you be a member of the Salt Water Garden Club? Or a member of Daughters of the American Revolution? Well, H.I.S. Ministries in Santa Fe, Texas boasts of having the oldest active volunteer who turned 99 in August of 2015. Her name is Marian Brick. She is a resident of Bayou Vista and yes she lives upstairs! She attends Faith Community Church, (she goes up the stairs there too), and teaches a Sunday School class. Marian was born August 28, 1916 in Galveston, Texas. Her father was born in Galveston in 1873 . After the birth of her brother who was born in Houston in 1902, they moved back to Galveston. She graduated from Ball High School in 1934. She married in 1936 and had a son in 1938. Marian spent 2 years at a college in Jacksonville, Texas and majored in psychology and education. She and her husband lived in Liberty, Texas and owned a dry goods store. After selling the store, they moved to Baytown where her husband was the manager of the Texas Employment Commission. Her husband served in World War II in 1943-1944. He was a pilot and was shot down and killed over Germany in 1944. She remarried and was working with the Texas Employment Commission in Galveston as a clerk. (At the time they were hiring spouses of employees where she worked at the TEC.) She was hired as a state investigator. Soon she was “grandfathered” in to be a judge because of her knowledge and experience. She traveled all over Texas as the “traveling judge”.
Thank you for your service!

In 1979 she was diagnosed with cancer for the first time. She is a FOUR time cancer survivor. She also had ptomaine poisoning three times. She credits her Lord and her doctor for getting her this far. She says the Lord has her here for a some reason and that’s why she’s still here! She is of course, one of H.I.S. Ministries favorite volunteers. Marian is an active member in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Texas Revolution, Eastern Star, the Salt Water Garden Club, the Texas City Ancestry Society, and the Golden Division of the Chamber of Commerce. She also belongs to a very active genealogy group. So what are YOUR plans for
