JRV Hosts Its Own Mock Royal Wedding

Excited residents at the Jemalong Residential Village (JRV) had front-row seats at their own mock wedding to celebrate the royal marriage. Residents of JRV were keen to celebrate the recent royal wedding in style. Residents helped staff plan and stage a fictitious ceremony that brought the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to life at JRV on the eve of the royal marriage. Invitations were distributed to all residents asking that they wear their best attire for the occasion. The bride and groom remained anonymous until the day, causing lots of speculation as to the identity of the mystery couple. Residents assisted in various capacities, including the floral arrangements and bridal bouquets. Staff and residents played various

parts in the marriage ceremony concluding with the bride, portrayed by JRV resident Gladys Johnson, and the groom portrayed by another resident Paul Hanbury, being pronounced as “besties”. The bridal waltz was replaced by the “chicken dance” and the celebrations also recognised those present who were having a birthday! The JRV Opal Room venue was packed with residents, staff, family and friends along with lots of fun and laughter. The Queen and Prince Philip were also present and graciously helped staff and volunteers to serve some afternoon tea. Staff members Rose Carroll and Brian Dunn depicted these roles. For all who attended, the event was greatly enjoyed and one to remember.

Through the well read pages of your paper, may I please appeal to the parents and mates of the people who allow their children and teenagers to ride their unregistered motorbikes on the vacant block off Farnell and Belah Street. Whilst doing so, without wearing any helmets and sometimes with two or three riders on a bike. Someone is going to get hurt! The local police are doing their best but they often experience abuse from the parents, children and those they are trying to protect. Kind regards, Dianne Decker

OUR Gal ‘Renewable Energy Index - April’ shows a spike of 56% in the rate of rooftop solar capacity installations across the nation this year. Climate Councillor and energy expert Professor Andrew Stock said: “More and more Australian homeowners and businesses are turning to clean, affordable and reliable renewables like solar, harnessing the power of the sun and taking control of their power bills. We’ve got a never-ending and widely available power source at our fingertips, which can cut the nation’s rising greenhouse gas pollution and combined with storage, can provide cheap power across Australia on demand, 24/7.” Sow crops safely near poles and wires: Essential Energy is urging farm machinery operators to stay safe when sowing crops near the electricity network following warmer than average autumn conditions across NSW. Prolonged heat can cause powerlines to sag and reduce line clearance heights from the ground. If machinery does contact overhead powerlines, operators are advised to stay in the cabin of their vehicle and contact Essential Energy immediately on 13 20 80.” Electricity can arc or ‘jump’ across open spaces, so bystanders should remain at least eight metres away and treat powerlines as if they are ‘live’.

There isn’t a lot of down time with farming but I love to spend time with my family, watching their sports or relaxing with friends whenever I can. What are you really good at? I like to try a lot of things, but not sure if I’m good at any of them. I’m always willing to give things a try. If you could have a super power, what would it be? To be able to control the weather. What is your pet hate? Laziness. Tell us about your best holiday ever. Every holiday has been great. Central NSW Joint Organisation’s Inaugural Meeting Councillor John Medcalf looks forward to a bright new future working collaboratively with the State in the interests of our communities. “Central NSW Joint Organisation is the first to meet in the State. It was such a good opportunity to meet here in Parliament House today so we have pulled out all the stops as a demonstration of how we can get things done!” said John. “We welcome the opportunity to work with all levels of government and other key stakeholders like Regional Development Australia to get better results for our communities.” “In Central NSW we have a long and proud history of collaboration and see this opportunity as the next step.” Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro and Local Government Minister Gabrielle Upton addressed member councils at Parliament House last week and congratulated Central NSW for being

the first Joint Organisation in the State to hold its inaugural board meeting. “Central NSW councils are passionate advocates for their local communities and the new Joint Organisation will give them an even greater voice to win funding and support to deliver important regional initiatives,” John said. “Joint Organisations are the foundation of the Government taking a new approach to doing business in regional NSW.” Gabrielle said the Government is pleased to support the establishment of the Central NSW Joint Organisation with $300,000 in seed funding and ongoing advice and guidance from the office of Local Government. “Central NSW Joint Organisation is already moving ahead in leaps and bounds to become fully operational and deliver the full benefits these new regional bodies will bring to the local community,” said Gabrielle.

The Lachlan Valley Caravan Club has been on the move as usual with a bush camp at Kiacatoo Hall which also included hosting a Biggest Morning Tea event last Friday. Twenty three caravans and 42 members attended the week-long bush camp at Kiacatoo. Approximately 30 day visitors from Forbes and the surrounding district attended the Biggest Morning Tea. We may not be the biggest caravan club, however members and guests sure dug deep to make it one of the most successful Biggest Morning Tea events ever, raising over $1,600 for cancer research. The day commenced with a welcoming by club president John Apps, followed by the Master of Ceremonies explaining the day’s activities. There were quizzes, jokes, skits and raffles taking place during the day. We were also serenaded by our club musicians, The Lachlan Valley Very Little Big Band, with vocals by local Bill Dolle. Thank you to everyone that attended and contributed to this worthwhile cause. By Pat Barnes

The office telephone number will be 6862 4560. “I am really delighted to have created a full-time job in Parkes and to have supported local trades in the outfitting of the building,” Michael said. An official opening of the office will be held today at 5pm.

“From about 4.30pm I will take a walk through the central business district and would love to catch up with as many people as possible for a quick hello.” Parkes Mayor, Councillor Ken Keith, welcomed the decision to open the new office. “We are delighted the Federal Member has decided to locate his office in Parkes in the northern part of the electorate to make it easier and more convenient for his constituents to meet with him and to discuss their issues,” the Mayor said.

Also on Sunday, 19 players from Forbes travelled to West Wyalong for their 18-hole Open. There were also players from Temora, Grenfell, Condobolin, Wagga, Young, Lake Cargelligo and more. The top prize, the West Wyalong Open Champion and A-grade scratch winner, went to Dan Bayley of Forbes, with a scratch score of 72. He found many different places on the course but always managed to score well. Other Forbes players among the prize winners were: Greg Webb C-grade runnerup; Peter Nixon A-grade NTP and Steve Grallelis C-grade NTP. On Sunday, there will be a junior golf event run by Simon Houston. This will showcase some of the best junior talent around the regional areas. By Short Putt

Croquet News Week ending 26th May A big effort made by some of our members who joined the Seniors u3A team to take part in the Relay for Life event. Our monthly birthday luncheon will again be held on 5th June at the Forbes Services Club at 12pm. There were five winners of three games on the 22nd May. These winners were Kevin Rubie, Libby Smart, Merv Langfield, Veva MacCullagh and Robin Pols. Congratulations to all these players! Once again Aussie croquet was played on Saturday, 26th August. A small group of players attended but it was still very enjoyable. Our croquet grounds are in first class condition. A big thank you to the small group who help to maintain them. Once again congratulations must go to all who won three games in Aussie croquet. The winners were Kevin Rubie, Bill Scott and Libby Smart. Our very popular member Joan Littlejohn who had a very nasty fall, is now out of hospital and recuperating at home. We all wish Joan a speedy recovery. By Elvy Quirk
