Currajong Claims Forbes’ Special Sports Day Currajong Disability Services claimed the 38th Forbes Special Sports Day winners title last Wednesday at Red Bend Catholic College. Despite losing the marching section, Currajong rallied to take honours in walking races, musical chairs and a dance-off. With Donna Apps, Thomas Davis and Jye Jeffrey dominating the walking races and Wade Cannon taking home the chocolates in musical chairs, it came down to the dance-off to decide the ultimate winner and right on cue, Patty Nolan waltzed onto the dance floor and lit up the large friendly crowd at the Red Bend College Hall. Patty’s repertoire of flips, handstands, moonwalks, foxtrots and lido shuffles stole the show in front of an enthusiastic gathering. More important than the winning, was that participants had a tremendous time and that the iconic event was another outstanding success which again brought the disability community throughout the region together. “The day isn’t so much about who won as it is about that everyone’s a winner here,”
TEAMWORK CAN MAKE A DREAM WORK… The 38th Forbes Special Sports Day win was claimed by the Currajong Disability Services group. The very successful event held annually brings the disability community of the region together.
said Thomas Davis from Currajong Disability Services. “Today is a celebration and a special day on the Forbes and disability calendar. We can’t thank everyone enough from the other providers to Red Bend for having us here
today,” he said. “Can’t wait to come back next year!” “Congratulations to everyone involved for putting on a great day and participating in this flagship event,” said Thomas. By Dane Millerd

MAYORAL NOTES How good was Vanfest for the town? Congratulations to Matt Clifton and Secret Sounds for a fabulous music festival production. The weather on Friday night was a bit chilly but Saturday was absolutely fantastic. I spoke with many people from all over Australia and they absolutely loved Forbes and the hospitality they received here. On Saturday morning the CBD was very busy and we have information from businesses that the festival is a wonderful boost to the local economy and one that the community desperately needed during the tough period they are having due to the drought. Our farmers are still waiting for the much needed rain, sooner rather than later to help the newly sown crops well on their way for the season. I ask everyone to keep their thoughts and prayers in the front of their minds for our very important farming community. May Council meeting was held on Thursday and there was a lot on the agenda. Most importantly we will adopt our 2019/20

SNIPPETS... 68 people on NSW roads in 2018, accounting for nearly one in five road deaths, including 55 lives lost on country roads. Fatalities from crashes involving a drug driver accounted for similar numbers of deaths. Minister for Transport and Roads, Andrew Constance said this reform makes it clear if you break the law, you will pay the price. “We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to drink and drug driving,” said Andrew. “Drivers who have an illegal level of alcohol in their blood or have used illegal drugs have no place on the road.”

What a Country Music Muster!: Veva MacCullagh was our very lucky winner of a double pass to the Country Music Muster held at Condobolin recently. The event was run by Phil and Chris Coad. “This was a fantastic well-run event and featured many walk-up opportunities for singers of country music and a great line-up of professional artists over the weekend,” said Veva.” Many thanks to the Forbes Phoenix and the Coad’s for running this competition,” she said. Drink-driving in NSW: From May, drink drivers who are first-time, lower range offenders will receive an immediate threemonth licence suspension and a fine of $561. Under the new laws, simpler and more certain penalties will also apply for drug drivers. Offenders who drive with the presence of illicit drugs for the first time will receive a $561 fine and a threemonth licence suspension if the offence is confirmed by laboratory analysis. Pink Night Shows Trundle At Its Best For the past four years, Carolyn Keep and Debbie Veale have successfully been organising The Pink Night. However, this year the event held at the Trundle Service and Citizens Club on 3rd May surpassed all expectations after raising an astonishing $20,458 for women’s cancer. Almost immediately after securing celebrity sports presenter, Michael Cain from Channel 10, Carolyn and Debbie knew it would be a great night!
Celebrity sports presenter, Michael Cain from Channel 10 at the hugely successful Pink Night event held at the Trundle Service and Citizens Club.
“Michael managed to gather up some amazing sporting memorabilia, including NRL premium grand final tickets. This was the highest bid item for the evening, going for $1,275 to a lovely lady from Forbes who lost her husband to cancer,” said Carolyn. “That’s how the rest of the night continued with so many other beautiful people, all having a story of their own. We laughed a lot and we cried a lot.” “It’s always a night filled with emotion, compassion and determination to help in any way we can to end all the loss from this horrid thing called cancer,” she continued. Carolyn feels incredibly lucky to live in Trundle. “Ït’s a tiny town with the biggest heart on the planet! We don’t ask for any donations or advertise for helpers, it just comes! Everything in the auction is dropped off in the weeks leading up to this extraordinary event and our tireless helpers work all night after they have finished work,” said Carolyn. This year’s raffle had over 36 prizes and the auction about the same, live music played in the car park arena and the dance floor remained packed. “We would like to say a massive ‘thank you’ to each and every person that helped make the evening such a phenomenal success,” said Carolyn.

Forbes High School student, Emily Gartner, was among 12 other local students who were awarded a scholarship at the Proudly Public! Celebrating Excellence in Public Schools awards night held at the Sydney Town Hall on Wednesday evening. They were among more than 131 public school students and educators from across NSW to receive scholarships as part of the Public Education Foundation (PEF) national awards. Since the launch of Public Education Foundation’s scholarships program 10 years ago, more than 1,000 students have been supported with life-changing scholarships. During that decade the Public Education Foundation has disbursed more than $3 million in scholarship funding. The Secretary of the Department of Education, Mark Scott, thanked the Public Education Foundation for its ongoing support of public education in NSW. He said the scholarships aimed to remove barriers to achievement created by social and economic disadvantage. “These scholarships are about recognising and rewarding student excellence to encourage high-achieving students to continue to maximise their potential,” said Mark. “I congratulate our students, teachers and leaders who have won scholarships - it is their efforts that combine to create the extraordinary public education system we have in NSW.” David Hetherington, Public Education Foundation executive director, said the awards were about celebrating “enduring values of our public education system, a system that provides the greatest of all opportunities for young people to succeed in life”. “It has been an enormous privilege to work with so many inspiring students and educators who recognise the transformational power of education,” said David.

Appeal To Support Red Shield There has been a significant increase in people coming forward needing assistance over the past 12 months. Lt Cameron Lovering of the Parkes and Forbes Salvation Army said at the launch of the annual Red Shield Appeal last week, that they saw the effects of the drought on a daily basis. He said 80 percent of funds raised this year would go straight back into the local community. The target this year is to raise $9,000. Volunteers are needed to help out at two static points in Forbes during the week starting 20th May, and volunteers to help the doorknock campaign on 25th and 26th May. Contact Maryanne Lovering on 0431 731 531 to offer assistance. Cameron said another way to support was to donate items to the Family Store. “The store is our primary source of income. The more donations we get, the more money we can raise.” At the launch community members, who had been offered assistance, delivered testimonials of what it had meant to them. Bill Atkins and Nyomi Pratt encouraged everyone to support “the wonderful cause”. Volunteer supervisor Robyn Hohnberg said it was such a good feeling to give back to the community. By Maggi Barnard

Guarantees Given To A Bank
Guarantor loans have become prevalent in recent times as banks try to spread the liability for loans. These types of loans are usually structured in such a way that the loan is secured by both the property you are buying and the property owned by the guarantor. Here are some types of guarantees: 1. Security guarantee: First time home buyers with an excellent credit history but no deposit will use this type of guarantee. The guarantor, called an ‘equity guarantor’ by some lenders, uses real estate they own as additional security for the mortgage in question. If the guarantor has a loan on their property already, the bank can usually take a second mortgage as security. 2. Security and income guarantee: These guarantors are often parents helping their child who is a student or who has insufficient income to buy a property. The lender will use the parents’ property as additional security and rely on the parents’ income to prove that the loan is affordable. 3. Limited guarantee: The guarantor only guarantees a part of the loan. This is mostly used with security guarantors to reduce the potential liability secured on the guarantor’s property. Guarantees can either be limited or unlimited, depending on both the guarantor’s wants and the lender’s requirements. If you use a limited guarantee, then you are reducing the guarantor’s exposure to your mortgage although you may still be up for interest and charges by the bank in excess of the limit of the loan. Some banks require the customer to obtain independent legal advice from a solicitor. If we at Matthews Williams can help you on any legal matter, feel free to call us.

Low Scores In Stroke Event
Sunny skies and cooler shade welcomed golfers to the course, where some players shot low scores in the Individual Stroke event, sponsored by B&C Autos. But many also had trouble on the greens.
