Rotary exchange student Beyond the Stage loving Young’s lifestyle Rotary Club exchange student Emily Berentin says she has loved her time on exchange in Young since she arrived in August last year. Ms Berentin, 18 and from Berlin, Germany, is in Young on an 11 month Rotary Club International exchange program to Australia, and has one month to go before jetting back home to Berlin. Each year the Rotary Club, which is based in more than 200 countries world wide, offers exchanges to students still studying in high school with connections to the club. Ms Berentin is still too young to be a Rotarian in Germany, but with her father being a member of the club, this made her eligible for the exchange program. While she said she had always wanted to do an exchange, she never really planned one until her father hosted two exchange students in their family home. “In Germany we learn English from year three, but I really wanted to improve my English, and I really love nature, so I chose to go to Australia,â€? she said. The engine powers a two range hydrostatic transmission featuring heel and toe operation that is ideally suited to loader and mowing operations. The BX range transmission also comes standard with four wheel drive and rear differential lock enabling it to perform in any conditions. The BX range is equipped with hydrostatic power steering to make steering effortless, even with a full loader bucket. A comfortable wellpadded seat with a swivel base to reverse the seat direction for backhoe operations is also standard. A large uncluttered metal operating platform and metal fenders ensures all pedals and operating levers are within easy reach of the operator, enhancing the comfort level of the BX25. The main frame of the BX range is reinforced to ensure its total ability to undertake front-end loader and backhoe operations. This added strength permits more powerful and stable front-end loader and backhoe operations than with conventional means of mounting loaders and backhoes. $ .XERWD %7 EDFNKRH LV ÀWWHG VWDQGDUG WR WKH %; This backhoe features a curved designed boom. The arched design of the boom allows the operator to dig deeper, keeping the boom out of the way of the edges of the excavation area. It also gives a better lifting height to clear obstacles. A 20 degree angle of departure of the backhoe allows for easy loading and unloading from trucks or trailers.

Rural Roundup Reliable steel service a credit to MA Steel MA Steel owner and operator John Coulter says his reliable staff, service and supportive clients are what have kept his business one of the best in steel services. MA Steel is an authorised dealer of Fair Dinkum Sheds and Homes, but what makes them stand out above the rest is the sheer number of services they offer. Besides providing retail steel supplies for local farmers, builders and handymen, they provide kit building with the full service from gaining council approvals, laying down slabs, and installing structures through their reliable subcontractors. On top of this, they supply rural and domestic fencing materials, water tanks, garden sheds and industrial buildings. They also stock a large range of sheep, cattle and horse panels, as well as a full range of Arrow Farmquip cattle crushers and horse stable panels. They can even handle complete round yard and cattle yard systems. We live in a connected world. The internet and social media allow us to see and hear what is happening not only in our community but in the world around us. And for Young High School, ensuring their students become global citizens and develop the skills to engage in caring for and about their community, both locally and globally is a top priority. The journey to developing these empathy and engagement skills begins early with students in Year 7 English tackling a confronting picture book called Dust. The author created the book to highlight the devastating humaniWDULDQ GLVDVWHU WKDW RFFXUUHG LQ 1LJHU $IULFD LQ 2005. All proceeds from the sale of the book go to Save the Children to help fund programs WKDW WDFNOH NH\ FKLOGUHQ¡V ULJKWV LVVXHV Mrs Schiller, the Head Teacher of the English Faculty at the school, was cautiously optimistic about introducing the students to the book. “The story is very sad and covers in illustrations and limited words the death of a mother and child through starvation in Africa. In the end I was so impressed with how the students engaged in the story and were able to connect with a global issue.â€? “The students were so inspired that they asked the principal if they could do some fundraising to help those in need. They raised money and collected goods that were passed onto Save the Children.â€? Expanding on their work on humanitarian issues the Year 7 students also learn about the slums in India. They watch a documentary titled “Slumming Inâ€? which tells the story of people living in the slums and how despite the impoverished circumstances in which they live they are able to show gratitude. “We want our students to be global citizens and be aware of these issues and know that they can do something to help,â€? said Mrs Schiller.

DID YOU KNOW

VOTING RULES HAVE CHANGED?

Make your vote count this federal election Saturday 2 July At this year’s federal election, the way you vote for the Senate has changed and it’s important that you understand how to vote correctly. On the large white Senate ballot paper, you can choose to vote either above or below the line. If you choose to vote above the line, you now need to number at least 6 boxes. Put the number ‘1’ in the box for the party or group that is your first choice, a ‘2’ for your second choice and so on until you’ve numbered at least 6 boxes.

If you choose to vote below the line, you need to number at least 12 boxes, from 1 to 12, for individual candidates in the order of your choice. Voting for the House of Representatives has not changed. On the green ballot paper, you need to number every box, starting with the number ‘1’ for your first choice, ‘2’ for your second choice and so on until you have numbered every box. ‘How to vote’ instructions will be clearly displayed on your ballot paper. Don’t worry if you make a mistake — just ask for another ballot paper.

Your vote will help shape Australia.
