It was the first educational tour of the Bachelor of Arts in English 4 and Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts 3 and 4. However, there‟s a second thought on his mind whether we will join or not because of financial problem which happened to some of us before we get included in the list for those who will join the tour. It started on November 28 and lasted until December 2, 2010. The tour participants visited different companies; National Broadcasting Network (NBN-4), Greater Manila Area (GMA-7), Manila Bulletin, Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC), and Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research and Development (PCARRD)

“First Educational Tour” by: Dessane Jalotjot, AB Eng 4 (Applied Communication Department). These companies gave different insights, exposure and awareness for respective field of specialization of students so that they would be ready for work. The five-day educational tour for me was worth it and interesting. We were lucky because everybody enjoyed the tour and we were happy because we met the main objectives; 1.) to conduct study tour and exposure tour for 41 AB Communication students and 20 AB English students in UP LB and Metro Manila for (5) days, 2.) to promote awareness on the relevance of the places visited to their

course and add inputs on generals ideas already acquired, 3.) to promote camaraderie among 58 students and learned to val-

specialization, 5.) prepare for their internship. Even though the itinerary was not followed and there were little arguments, the trip was very safe

ue of harmony during their tour, 4.) expose the students on the recent learning in their respective spe-

and successful. And for the students, it was a good experience and enjoyable for everybody

“Money cannot buy the experience” There are many probabilities- water comes back to shore, not necessarily the same water, not necessarily the same shore, belonging

anything. Some said that they can go there whenever they wanted to go but come to think of it, they cannot experience the very same

to one same set.” Just like the experience we had in our first ever Educational Tour, the happiness we felt cannot be replaced by money or

feelings that we had. - Charmaine F. Jandusay/ AbEnglish4

Waking up early at November 29, Monday, was very unusual for me. It is like a tricky test on how fast I can move! I got irritated because the other students who were with us in the

room, they were so slow that Bujoy, Bujhei and I had to be together in the shower room. After fixing ourselves we went down stairs for breakfast. Around 8:00 o‟clock in the morning we went to Manila Cathedral to offer some prayers and took pictures. Other students rode on “kalesa”. Finally after waiting for them we have to move on to our next destination which is the PBB House, but unexpectedly we were trapped at the park

near the park to wait for ate Jelaine because she is going to give money to Zalyn for her allowance. After a small conversation with the policeman we moved on. Even though we were late, our driver gave us a trip in front of

“4C” (Four Contemporary Plays in one)

Nowadays, many people believe that love does not exist in our contemporary world. However, the Philippines Stagers Foundation showed that love cannot be disregarded. It

they end up on an eye ball. She fell in love easily with Romeo and shows who she really is. She never hesitates to show her real feelings towards Romeo. At that time Juliet thinks that Romeo is the one, her true

a joke. The message of the play is that before we love others, we should love our self first. The third story is a different kind of love. It is the love for our country. It is

The Inside Scoop: NBN-4 One of the TV stations that I feel accommodated us very well during our study tour is the NBN-4. National Broadcasting Network or NBN-4 is a government station which basically

fied regarding what happens inside the station As a Marinduqueño, we are lucky because one of the “bosses” of NBN-4 came from Marinduque and she gave us access to have an OJT on

focuses on national issues unlike other TV stations which focus more on entertainment and commercials. When I step out of our service van, as I look at the building of the NBN-4 I didn‟t see it as a TV station otherwise it looks like a

their station. It‟s good news for our fellow 3rd year Communication Arts student that will undergo training this coming summer. As I remember the tour facilitator said some of the student who has undergone training in their station landed jobs in different big

hospital or a college building. As we go inside, we‟re grouped into two because the studio can‟t accommodate us all at once. I belong to second batch where we wait for about an hour. The lengthy wait was worth it

station in the country. How I wish, we, A.B Communication -4 students could also have an OJT or experience working on NBN-4 so we can apply our knowledge about our field of specialization and hopefully land a job related to our

because of the knowledge that our tour facilitator shared with us, and also my burning curiosity was satis-

day 2: nov. 30/ tuesday Tuesday, we went to NBN channel4. This time we were wearing our uniforms. That time I wanted to escape. But, I did not do that. NBN is faced to the BAI compound and the way inside is heading to my auntie‟s house. Nothing, I just want to go there but there is no time. We entered inside by group because the studio couldn‟t accommodate us all. The studios are not that big for all of us. It was great. One thing I learned is their tran-

sition of works. Next to it we went to GMA7. We were expecting to see their artist and talents but we did not. We took pictures again because we could take nothing but pictures. We went on their studios from the smallest (studio1) to the biggest (studio7). According to our guide studio 7 is the largest studio in the Philippines. After of the sight on their studios, we realized that the studios were not really beautiful unless they were all set up, decorated and given designated lights.

Then, from the network we went to Trinoma and we ate our dinner. We modeled our uniforms. According to those who greeted us our uniform is cute in the eyes and it looks sexy. Gle, Nest,

aries for my brother and sister. Then, Gle and I made fun on the elevator. We rode there just from 3rd floor to 2nd floor. The guide inside of it asked us where to go but we went outside of

Ana and I went to the Sky Garden. We took pictures while imitating the pose of the fairy displayed there. We went to the book store. They bought Bob Ong’s book. I bought two diction-

He who laughs so nice, he who makes us laugh, he who throws corny jokes, he who entertains and he who plays our requested songs --who is he? He is Mr. DJ. We were on our third day

the country. We got a chance to talk to the DJs of Yes FM and Love Radio of Manila Broadcasting Company. Of course, there were aspiring DJs in our group who asked: “What are the

of educational tour when we met famous Disc Jockeys of well known FM stations in

characteristics a DJ must posses?” I am sure you know

Totoy Bato and Maria Maldita of Yes FM. How about Rico Panyero of Love Radio? They told us that the following are the qualifications to be a Disc Jockey: • Observant. A DJ should

tention. He should assume things that his listeners may think. • Sharp voice will do. Being a DJ does not require to have a baritone voice. Sharp voice will get the

observe things around him so that he can tell something interesting in his adlib. • Naughty mind. A DJ should explore his imagination to get his listeners‟ at-

attention of the listeners. Nicoleyala has a sharp voice that makes her program alive. • Unique character. Everyone has its own character to

be emphasized. He maybe a talkative one, serious, humorous or the combination of the said characters. It is also important that a DJ has a punchline that the listeners would hear everytime he talks on air. Mr. Fu has “Meganon?” Maybe some of you aspire to be one. So start to develop these characters and entertain us. Hope to hear you on air, soon! - Rhoeline Melendez, Ab Comm4.

Routines in the morning and today we‟re in our society shirts. The mobilization for the budget cut happened this day. We went to Manila Bulletin and our guide was Mr. Rey Pacheco. We watched a video clip about the history of Manila Bulletin and then entered the place where the process of printing and packaging happen. I am amazed with the huge machine that can make hundred fifty copies over an hour. It is a Mitsubishi machine from Japan and it costs million dollars. Mr. Nobleza was not with us because he went to the National Library to get International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) for the newsletter but he lend me his digital camera to take pictures inside while he‟s away. We had our lunch in the fast

food chain near Star City. After eating, we stayed in the parking lot and waited for out time to visit Manila Broadcasting Company. Mr. Nobleza

back and resumed the discussion. We decided to visit the Cultural Center of the Philippines because we‟re bored waiting for the other group to come out of MBC. I had a

tour inside MBC came. We just visited different radio stations namely Love Radio, Yes Fm, Easy Rock, DZRH and Radyo Natin. We learned few history and information about the sta-

gave us a lecture about literary techniques that we could use in our writing class. I am aware that today is the mobilization of different state universities and colleges protesting about the budget cut in the education. It‟s a big threat in our

terrible headache but I just ignored it and enjoyed the visit in CCP because only elite person have the privilege to enter and have passes in the complex so I considered myself lucky to see what‟s inside. I obtained Yo Cards for free

tion and then we took pictures. We are supposed to be in Star City and Mall of Asia but since misunderstandings happened with some glitches in the itinerary, we just head back to the dormitory to have our dinner and

education fund and in our future that‟s why they come up with a protest. It happened around 1pm in the Senate hearing on the 2011 budget. I received a text message from the president of CEGP Southern Tagalog

and got some for Ms. Osacdin as a souvenir. At long last, our turn to have a tour

Roge Gonzales but unfortunately we didn‟t participate in this protest because we‟re not allowed and we just can‟t. I just ran in the street where they made their way going to Congress and took pictures. We went

day 4: dec. 2/ thursday This is the last day of our tour. Bye bye Manila. We left the dormitory early, around 5:00 in the morning. We travelled without any foods in our stomach, neither coffee nor bread. But our tour adviser gave us bread to eat… I shared to them my „Cheese Whiz‟ spread…and then I realized there is no bread left for Sir… fortunately, I also have bread. We stopped in Petron (drive-thru) in San Pablo to buy foods for our lunch. I bought coffee in Starbucks. The cashier asked for my name so I answered her question saying I am Glecery. But she found it so hard to understand. She asked me 6 more times about my name. What‟s wrong about my name? Asking me same questions many times shortened my long patience. So annoying. Then, she asked, “How do you spell it ba Ma‟am?”. Nobody is perfect,

so I spelled it right away. We went to PCARRD in Los Baños. As what I‟ve seen outside the van, Laguna is endowed with abundant natural resources. There are many beautiful types of scenery we can see while we‟re in our trip. So, in PCARDD, I am really amazed in the beauty of nature I can see here. It really captured my heart. It is really so beautiful in my eyes. How I wished, I could see beautiful sceneries like that not only in Laguna but all over the country. The staff of PCARDD informed us its importance in our society and they also shared their knowledge about PCARDD. Next route? We went to UP Los Baños. The souvenirs along the way caught my eyes. I bought many souvenirs because it is not only beautiful but also cheep and anyone could afford to buy those souvenirs. We watched their video about our environment

and we also stroll around the campus and took pictures. Nature is really refreshing. There is a falls inside the campus and a river. The cold fresh air can be heard as if whispering that it is the time to save mother earth from hazardous elements. Subsequently, we went to UP Natural History Museums where consists of maintained biological and zoological specimens, wood samples; by-products of microorganism, and also thousands of living plants and trees preserved in a separate location. There are also preserved fetuses of different living things but the most eye -catchy thing there is the fetuses of human, fetus of a child – from 1month old up to 8 months old. Based on what I‟ve read above the fetus

Lucena. Too early for the departure of the ship, we went to SM Lucena to window shop. Afterwards, we went to Talao-talao port to ride on a ship. I did not sleep in the ship. I just chatted with my friends there. And I also talked to some policemen based in the province. I met them long time ago that‟s why I know them. Sir Chavez asked me if I can still remember what he taught me about studying. Yes! I can still remember it „cause it already stucked in my mind. It is the 3 techniques in study --- haba ng leeg, talas ng mata at bilis ng pagsulat. ^_^ . Don‟t take it seriously, it‟s just a joke. =) And now, I‟m home!!! My home is a place where my life begins. - glecery molbog, ab eng4
