ELEMENTARY ACTIVITIES & ATHLETICS
Registration Process & Policies – PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY • After-school program will be available online on November 23, 2015. • Students may register on-line (www.sas.edu.sg/easa) for up to 3 classes. • Online registration for First choice class opens November 30 at 10 a.m. • Online registration for Second & Third choice classes open from December 2nd (midnight of December 1) to January 8. • Registrations received on January 4 onwards will be subjected to a $15.00 late fee. • Late registrations will not be accepted after January 8, 2015. • Minimum and maximum student enrollments are listed with each class description. • There will be no refunds after you have paid and registered your child in a class (once you have received the receipt from PayPal). • There will be no switches (transfers to a different after-school class) after your registration is confirmed (once you have received the receipt from PayPal).
• After registration is completed, parents can access the “registered activities” link on after-school registration system to view receipts and registration confirmation.
General Information when After-school classes start: • All children must report to the K-2 or 3-5 cafeteria directly after school at 3 pm. • Cafeteria supervision is provided until 3:15 when the after-school classes begin. • Primary School students may be picked up at 4:15 pm or ride the 4:25 pm K-2 AfterSchool Bus Service (Registration online), or walk home if written parental permission is given via easinfo@sas.edu.sg. • 3-5 School students may walk home, be picked up or ride a 4:25 pm Student Activity Bus (YOU must contact the Bus Office @ 6360-6770 to arrange for the Activity Bus) after confirmed enrollment in an after-school class. • Please notify the Elementary Activities & Athletics office (room P-101) or at easainfo@ sas.edu.sg if your child will be absent from their after-school class.

Language Mandarin Out-of-the-box! - KG/1st/2nd/3rd grade Open to new and returning students! This program provides opportunities for SAS Elementary students to learn Mandarin in a fun-playing environment. Students will be engaged in activities that are rich in visual cues and focus on developing communicative enjoyment and confidence. The main focus will be speech. We will be using lots of exciting hands-on activities. The program has been designed as a continuous three-term curriculum and students are encouraged to participate for the entire three terms to get maximum benefit from the program.

Recreation Activities Soccer First Skills – Preschool / PreK The Coerver® First Skills soccer trainning program is for children aged between 4-6. Fun is the cornerstone of the curriculum with an introduction to basic skills and a positive experience in the game featuring individual and team contests and small sided games. The atmosphere is energetic and joyful as we encourage all soccer players to learn to love the game.

Kinder Swim Lessons – KG This class is designed for students who are already water safe (who are able to go underwater and dogpaddle) and need to start to work on basic stroke development. In case of rain, please bring sports shoes to every swim class as we will not cancel class but will offer an alternate activity.
Kinder Climb – KG Welcome to introductory climbing. Various climbing activities, safety and simple techniques will be covered in this class designed to challenge all levels of climbers. A good pair of athletic training shoes and a positive attitude is all that is needed for this fun activity!

Recreation Activities Yoga for Children – KG Yoga for young ones requires a lot of energy and a little bit of imagination. Rather than focusing on precise poses and long sequences, children develop a love of yoga by practicing asana-s in stories, games, and short sequences. In addition to strength, balance, and flexibility, a foundation for mindfulness is created. Relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and visualization will help your young ones develop along the path of yoga. Taught by Laura Fitzpatrick RYT500.

Futsal (indoor soccer) – 2nd grade Are you ready to play some Futsal? Futsal is widely viewed as the ideal skill-building sport for producing technically exciting soccer players. It is a low contact indoor sport, fast-paced and the kids can play it rain or shine. With particular emphasis on the skills of passing, dribbling, close control & shooting. Discover Synchronized Swim - 2nd/3rd grade (Open to new and returning students) Synchronized Swimming is an Olympic Sport that combines ballet, gymnastics and swimming. This is a great sport for a creative child that likes music, choreography and swim. The coach is the former Captain of the Singapore’s Synchronized Swim Team. All participants must be able to swim at least one length of the pool (any stroke) and be comfortable when fully submerged in deeper water. An athletic swimming suit, swim cap and a yoga mat is all that is needed for this class! At the end of the term, parents will be invited to watch a performance.

Recreation Activities Touch Rugby Skills (boys & girls) - 3rd grade Touch rugby is a fast moving, minimal contact, evasive game that is played throughout the world by boys and girls. The game is similar to rugby but without tackling, scrumming, mauling, lineouts and kicking. This fast, simple and exciting game promotes the fundamentals skills of running, handling, evasion and support play, whilst developing basic principles of attack and defense. It is a great social game too! SAS offers a select Touch (girls) or Rugby (boys) in 4th & 5th grade so, get a head start and learn to play now!
Dodgeball - 3rd/4th grade Come join us in this fast paced, fun filled, competitive game that is popular with students everywhere! Emphasis will be on developing throwing and catching skills, then using these skills in a number of versions of dodge ball.
Recreational Soccer - 4th/5th grade This is a recreational soccer activity where the primary objective is for the players to develop skills, learn good sportsmanship and above all, have fun. The emphasis will be on playing games! Both, beginners and experienced soccer players are welcome to sign up.
Cricket Skills - 3rd/4th/5th grade Cricket Skills gives upper elementary children the opportunity to play cricket. They will learn and work on fundamental cricket skills, and be active in a fun environment. With the emphasis on fun, children will get a safe introduction to cricket, develop lots of basic bowling, batting and fielding skills.

Recreation Activities Net-Sports - 3rd/4th/5th grade Come try you hands at Pickleball- a fast fun game played like short paddled tennis, Volleyball with the higher net and more team players and, the all popular Badminton. This Nets activity is for those who like a net to aim over and friends to play with. It helps develop eye hand coordination, agility, aim and team work. We will explore all net sports and play our favorites for the last few classes.
Badminton - 3rd/4th/5th grade Learn how to play this exciting and challenging Olympic sport. Students will learn badminton skills and drills while playing a variety of games, which includes individual, doubles and team based activities and challenges. Come and join the fun with this popular sport in Singapore and Asia.
Yoga - 3rd/4th/5th grade Yoga is a perfect activity to help our maturing upper elementary students. It will encourage a deeper sense of body awareness, self-exploration stretches and interpersonal skills. Students will experience yoga’s flowing sequences, balancing poses, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques. This activity will inspire a positive attitude that will sure be carried into students’ everyday lives.

Recreation Activities Girls Touch Rugby Skills 4th/5th grade This class is suitable for both beginners and experienced players. Touch Rugby is easy to learn and is great to improve your child’s fitness. Our girls touch rugby program has the goal to teach girls specific touch rugby skills such as running with the ball, finding space, kicking, catching, scoring a try and most importantly, teamwork. SAS Under 11 team is the current Silver & Bronze medal holders for ACSIS so, learn to play before the tryouts.

Martial Arts Karate for little ones – PreK Karate is a traditional Japanese martial art, which teaches students how to use hands, elbows, knees and legs for self-defense. It teaches children good discipline, healthy lifestyle, good morals and also helps them to make new friends. This class aims to build a solid foundation for children to understand and enjoy Karate. Students will learn how use the strength of their upper body and hips and add it into punches or kicks. Martial Arts Taekwondo (Beginner Belts) – KG/1st/2nd grade Taekwondo foster strong values and beliefs such as respect, determination, modesty, perseverance and self control. It is a systematic and progressive training that seeks to polish and maximize student’s ability in self-defense together with improving their self confidence and motor skills. Performing Arts Ballet Fairies – PreK A fun-filled opportunity for your child to learn ballet and dance to classical music or should we say to the “music of the fairies”. Tap Dance for Beginners – 3rd/4th/5th grade (Beginners & returning Dancers) Tap dancing is all about rhythm, musicality and timing. Fire, Clay and Fun – 3rd/4th/5th grade We will work in the High School Visual Arts suite with variety of clay to create jewelry, bowls, ornaments and many other items using stoneware, earthenware and porcelaine. These spectacular creations will be finished off using paint, glazes and a special firing process called Raku. This process involves firing clay in our cool Raku kiln with fire and smoke and a fabulous finish.

Music Guitar for Beginners – 4th/5th grade Students will learn to play guitar from square one! They will learn about posture, handpositioning and get familiar with various parts of the instrument. Using the guitar chords - G major, C major, E minor and D major - students will begin ‘jamming’ as soon as possible. We will work on finger and scale exercises, strumming and other practice techniques and in no time they will start playing simple 3-string songs. Students will also learn basic guitar tuning and the notes of the musical staff. All students will need to bring a NYLON STRING CLASSICALSTYLE guitar to the class. This guitar can be purchased at many music stores around the city.
Guitar for Beginners (For returning Term 1 students only) – 4th/5th grade Students will continue to learn and practice various guitar techniques. We will increase our knowledge of notes and rhythms and continue building our cord vocabulary so that we can strum along to simple songs. Computer and Technology Programming Pioneers – 2nd/3rd/4th/5th grade Have you ever wondered about how things work? Maybe you wanted to program a robot, or create your very own game. If any of these things describe you, then Programming Pioneers is for you! Programming Pioneers will begin by learning the basics of computer programming. All pioneers will start by using the Blockly programming language to write their first computer program.
