Rezydencja w Graphic Studio Serhiy Savchenko
Od 16.04 do 30.04.2024 roku w Dublinie odbyła się rezydencja artystyczna zainicjowana przez Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform i Graphic Studio Dublin, z udziałem artysty Serhiy’a Savchenko. Rezydencja otrzymała wsparcie od GDAŃSKIEGO STYPENDIUM KULTURALNEGO „FUNDUSZ MOBILNOŚCI”.
«…Podczas mojego pobytu w Dublinie udało mi się szybko nawiązać świetne relacje z kolektywem Graphic Studio Dublin. Już w pierwszych dniach miałem okazję poznać większość artystów będących członkami tego graficznego stowarzyszenia. W tym celu została zorganizowana moja prezentacja przed kolegami, podczas której udało mi się opowiedzieć o swojej twórczości oraz zainteresować dublińskich artystów technikami graficznego druku, o których wcześniej nie mieli pojęcia.
Podczas mojej pracy w pracowniach centrum, udało mi się nie tylko owocnie pracować, ale również poznać i nauczyć się nowych technik graficznych, w szczególności techniki druku Carborundum. Za pomocą tej techniki stworzyłem podczas rezydencji 16 nowych prac, wykorzystując swoje wcześniejsze umiejętności. Ponadto odwiedziłem najważniejsze muzea Irlandii, takie jak National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin City Gallery oraz Irish Museum of Modern Art. Odnowiłem również kontakty z muzyczną wspólnotą Dublina na festiwalu New Music Dublin. Szczególnie miłym akcentem było to, że na jednym z koncertów zaprezentowano płytę z etykietą wykorzystującą jedno z moich malarskich dzieł.
Podczas rezydencji przeprowadziłem kolejne spotkanie z artystami i zaprezentowałem swoje prace stworzone podczas pobytu.
Jednym z ważnych celów rezydencji było nawiązanie nowych kontaktów z irlandzkimi artystami. Bardzo się cieszę, że udało się osiągnąć takie porozumienia i już zaplanowaliśmy w najbliższych miesiącach wystawę irlandzkich grafików w Savchenko Gallery w Gdańsku….»

Residency at Graphic Studio Dublin 2024
From April 16th to April 30th, 2024, an artistic residency took place in Dublin initiated by the Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform and Graphic Studio Dublin, with the participation of the artist Serhiy Savchenko. The residency received support from the Gdańsk Cultural Scholarship „Mobility Fund.”
„...During my stay in Dublin, I was quickly able to establish great relationships with the collective at Graphic Studio Dublin. In the first few days, I had the opportunity to meet most of the artists who are members of this graphic association. For this purpose, my presentation was organized before my colleagues, during which I was able to talk about my work and interest Dublin artists in graphic printing techniques they were previously unaware of.
During my work in the studio center, I not only worked productively but also got to know and learn new graphic techniques, especially the Carborundum printing technique. Using this technique, I created 16 new works during the residency, utilizing my previous skills. Additionally, I visited Ireland’s major museums, such as the National Gallery of Ireland, Dublin City Gallery, and the Irish Museum of Modern Art. I also renewed contacts with Dublin’s music community at the New Music Dublin festival. It was especially gratifying that one of the concerts featured a record label using one of my paintings.
During the residency, I conducted another meeting with artists and presented my works created during the stay.
One of the important goals of the residency was to establish new contacts with Irish artists. I am very pleased that we were able to achieve such agreements, and we have already planned an exhibition of Irish graphic artists at the Savchenko Gallery in Gdańsk in the coming months....”

Moje miejsce myślenia i pracy na 4 m piętrze Studia. Za oknem czyjeś apartamenty i cały czas kros żyje, pije, śpi, albo marzy.
„My place of thinking and working is on the 4th floor of the Studio. Outside the window are someone’s apartments, and all the time the city is alive, drinking, sleeping, or dreaming.”
W pracowni nie brakowało różnych materiałów, a szczególnie farb. Nigdy wcześniej nie spotkałem się z taką gamą farb do druku. Szczególnie podobał mi się sposób ich przechowywania – w tubkach do klejów budowlanych i silikonów. Jest to niezwykle wygodne i zapobiega wysychaniu farby, która zazwyczaj jest bardzo kosztowna...
„In the studio, there was no shortage of various materials, especially paints. I had never before encountered such a range of printing inks. I particularly liked the way they were stored - in tubes similar to those used for construction adhesives and silicones. This is extremely convenient and prevents the ink from drying out, which is usually very costly...”
To jest ulica St. Ignasio Avenue, na której mieszkałem przez pierwszy tydzień rezydencji. W Dublinie mieszkanie jest bardzo drogie, więc moja stypendia wystarczyła tylko na połowę czasu mojego pobytu w Dublinie oraz na bilety lotnicze.
Jednak moja rezydencja była również wspierana przez przyjaciół z Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform, dzięki czemu pozostałe dni spędziłem pod ich opieką.
„This is St. Ignasio Avenue, where I lived during the first week of the residency. Accommodation in Dublin is very expensive, so my scholarship covered only half of my stay in Dublin and the plane tickets. However, my residency was also supported by friends from the Ukrainian-Irish Cultural Platform, which allowed me to spend the remaining days under their care.”
To są Nick i Olesya. Olesya jest założycielką Irish Cultural Platform i inicjatorką mojej podróży do Irlandii. Olesya i Nick to wspaniali i bardzo utalentowani muzycy. Olesya jest przekonana, że Nick jest muzycznym geniuszem. Całkowicie się z nią zgadzam.
Jesteśmy przyjaciółmi i współpracujemy od wielu lat w wielu wspólnych projektach.

Olesia i drzwi do domku, w którym gościłem drugi tydzień mojego pobytu w Dublinie, u Olesi i Nicka. To prawdziwe miejsce muzyki i sztuki. Na drugim piętrze domu znajduje się pokój wypełniony instrumentami muzycznymi. Tam mieliśmy przyjemność kilkakrotnie wspólnie grać muzykę z innymi muzykami. A w ostatni wieczór, na pożegnanie, Nick podłączył czujniki do płótna i podczas malowania tworzyłem swoje artystyczne dźwięki, które wplatały się w melodie wykonywane przez Nicka. To był początek naszego projektu – marzenia, z którym bardzo chcielibyśmy odbyć podróż do Meksyku...

Olesia and the door to the little house where I stayed for the second week of my stay in Dublin, at Olesia and Nick’s. It’s a true haven of music and art. On the second floor of the house, there is a room filled with musical instruments. There, we had the pleasure of playing music together several times with other musicians. And on the last evening, as a farewell, Nick connected sensors to the canvas, and while I painted, I created my artistic sounds that intertwined with the melodies performed by Nick. It was the beginning of our project - a dream with which we would love to embark on a journey to Mexico...

A to jest pracownia słynnej legendy malarstwa, Francisa Bacona. Chociaż Bacon był Brytyjczykiem z pochodzenia, ogromną część swojego życia spędził w Irlandii. Jego pracownia została z najmniejszymi detalami przeniesiona do Hugh Lane Gallery i miałem szczęście odwiedzić to legendarne miejsce.
Dublin to prawdziwe miejsce kultury. Są tu wspaniałe muzea z bardzo interesującymi ekspozycjami na różne tematy i z różnych epok. Do wszystkich muzeów wstęp jest całkowicie bezpłatny. Miałem nieocenioną okazję odwiedzić prawie wszystkie aktualne wystawy, ponieważ prawie wszystkie najważniejsze instytucje znajdują się dość blisko siebie.
Dublin is a true cultural hub. There are wonderful museums with very interesting exhibitions on various topics and from different eras. Entry to all museums is completely free. I had the invaluable opportunity to visit almost all current exhibitions because almost all the major institutions are quite close to each other.
Graphic Studio Dublin to prawdziwy raj dla artystów, którzy kochają techniki graficzne i twórczość. Absolutnie wszystko, co potrzebne do pracy, jest tutaj dostępne. Różnorodne prasy do akwaforty i mezzotinty, suchej igły, druku wklęsłego, drzeworytu czy linorytu... po prostu wszystko, czego dusza zapragnie. Każdy dzień spędzony tutaj to nowe i bardzo ciekawe doświadczenie. Wspolnota Studia liczy około 80 osób. Są to ludzie w różnym wieku i z różnych kategorii zawodowych. Wszyscy rezerwują sobie czas na pracę i każdy pracuje nad swoim projektem, nigdy sobie nawzajem nie przeszkadzając.
Graphic Studio Dublin is a true haven for artists who love graphic techniques and creativity. Absolutely everything needed for work is available here. Various presses for etching and mezzotint, drypoint, intaglio printing, woodcut, or linocut... simply everything one could desire. Every day spent here is a new and very interesting experience.
The Studio community consists of about 80 people. They are individuals of different ages and professional backgrounds. Everyone reserves time for work, and each works on their project, never disturbing one another.
Każdy dzień w studiu przynosił nowe odkrycia i znajomości. Prowadziłem prezentacje i warsztaty. Wszyscy mieli wiele pytań, szczególnie dotyczących techniki płaskiego druku na płytach offsetowych. Z kolei odkryłem dla siebie technikę karborundum, w której wykonałem większość swoich prac podczas rezydencji.
Each day in the studio brought new discoveries and acquaintances. I conducted presentations and workshops. Everyone had many questions, especially regarding the flat printing technique on offset plates. Meanwhile, I discovered the technique of carborundum for myself, in which I created the majority of my works during the residency.
To są moi nowi przyjaciele z Graphic Studio Dublin. Wszyscy bez wyjątku są wspaniałymi artystami, którzy pracują niestrudzenie w różnych technikach.
Po prawej stronie jest Robert Russel, kierownik i dyrektor Studia. Jest niesamowitym artystą w dziedzinie grafiki, rzeźby i nie tylko. Na pożegnanie wymieniliśmy się pracami, i teraz w mojej kolekcji znajduje się jedna z jego najbardziej znanych prac wykonanych w technice mezzotinty. Robert jest bardzo skromnym i spokojnym człowiekiem. Pomagał mi we wszystkim, podobnie jak każdy, kto tam pracował. Na tym zdjęciu nie ma wszystkich artystów, których poznałem podczas rezydencji. Było ich naprawdę dużo więcej. To cudowni ludzie i artyści, i wielką radością było ich wszystkich poznać.
These are my new friends from Graphic Studio Dublin. Without exception, they are all wonderful artists who work tirelessly in various techniques. On the right is Robert Russel, the manager and director of the Studio. He is an amazing artist in the field of printmaking, sculpture, and beyond. As a farewell gesture, we exchanged works, and now one of his most famous works in the mezzotint technique is in my collection. Robert is a very modest and calm person. He helped me in everything, just like everyone else who worked there. This photo doesn’t show all the artists I met during the residency. There were really many more of them. They are wonderful people and artists, and it was a great joy to get to know them all.
