bbi & Ash married on 1st September in what can only be described as a whimsical, wanderlust wonder with meticulous attention to detail and a breath taking array of inspiration. With Abbi being one half of Save the Date Magazine, some would say she was in the most fortunate position to plan her dream wedding. However, being inundated with a constant stream of inspiring wedding pretty on a daily basis, it became a challenge to stay focused and true to her style. Needless to say, she (along with Ash) pulled it off and created a wedding weekend to remember. Along with a dream team of wedding suppliers, Abbi & Ash worked tirelessly to create a Boho Luxe festival inspired wedding complete with tipis, an outdoor ceremony, hay bales, a glamping village for their camping guests, food trucks, prosecco vans, flower crowns and a constant flow of amazing entertainment. All of this combined with the most incredible styling and personal touches ensured that this wedfest gave guests plenty to talk about. Abbi wore a dress by Margaux Tardits from The Mews of Notting Hill for the ceremony; its feminine and romantic look was in perfect keeping with their unique, personal ceremony under the skies. Channelling her inner Florence (and the machine) she then changed into a bohemian, ethereal style dress by Grace loves Lace; always wearing her beautiful flower crown by Number 27 Floral Design. Her 13, yes that’s 13 bridesmaids wore white dresses by Mango and carried foliage bouquets completing the look with their eucalyptus flower crowns. Ash and his groomsmen looked the part wearing suits by Reiss and bow ties by LV Made in England. Entertainment came in the form of a string quartet for the ceremony playing significant songs for the couple followed by an amazing brass band after the speeches and a brilliant band who filled the dance floor in the evening. All topped off with a silent disco which went down a storm. The next day guests were treated to more entertainment with DJ sets from three of their friends, an acoustic performance and a duo in the evening who again, filled the dancefloor. There was certainly no time for a lull (a list of entertainment in the suppliers credits at the end). 7

Guests were treated to food by Black Peppermint with amazing canapés and sharing platters to the table. Heidi the food truck served up the food in the evening and the next day too. With a blank canvas, Abbi’s imagination could run wild and she envisaged a festival village, similar to that of Glastonbury which both her and Ash have loved over the years. So she and her army of suppliers set to work transforming the field. Peaktipis provided their incredible structures as the focal point with festoon lighting by Fabric Theatre and beautiful blooms every way you turned courtesy of the talented Michele Gledhill. The Little Lending Company provided lots of vintage props, furniture, signs and seating together with creating an outdoor dancefloor complete with Moroccan rugs. Abbi & Ash worked hard making those all important little touches stand out with Abbi collecting glass bottles for the ladies and tankards for the men and personalising them with the guest’s name in calligraphy (thanks to Kayleigh Tarrant) plus a flower crown bar for the guests to get into the festival spirit, a jam jar bar (made by Ash’s dad) and provided a collection of ridiculous hats pegged on a washing line for guests to wear on the dancefloor! Instead of an ‘order of the day’ the couple commissioned Made by Wood & Wood to create a bespoke newspaper letting all the guests know what to expect with a few funny tales about the bride and groom thrown in too! From start to finish, every little detail had been thought through which lead to gasps of amazement and pure delight from the guests throughout the entire weekend. Abbi & Ash created a day all about them – at every corner was an element of the day which epitomised the two of them as a couple and together, they pulled off a weekend which their guests will never forget. Truly Epic. 8

FOR AN AUTUMN WEDDING BE INSPIRED

T

his season offers so much beautiful inspiration and Autumn weddings are always going to be utterly gorgeous. It is no wonder it’s becoming such a popular time of year for couples to say ‘We Do’.

One of the best things about Autumn weddings is the fact that they suit any style of celebration. Whether you’re dreaming of a truly rustic affair with warm, orange tones or a luxurious and lavish celebration with a rich and vibrant colour scheme, it’ll fit in beautifully with the Autumnal surroundings. Wrap up warm, grab a cosy cup of coffee and discover three of the most popular colour palettes for the season ahead…

raditionally, Autumn conjures up thoughts of cosy browns, burnt oranges and deep reds. We’ve given this gorgeous colour scheme a modern makeover. Inspired by fine art weddings, we’re swooning over the thought of a pale Autumn palette using light peach, delicate green and dusty blue hues. This wedding theme is all about elegance, and it’s a wonderful choice if you’re a self-confessed romantic at heart. It should be soft and delicate, using materials such as embroidered lace and layer upon layer of tulle. Have you ever considered rocking a subtly coloured gown on your big day? Gowns in blush pink, dusty rose or barely-there peach are a beautiful choice for this colour palette. Alternatively, you could incorporate your colour scheme into your aisle style by donning a pretty bridal flower crown. When it comes to your wedding stationery, opt for watercolour invitations with frayed edges and hand-written calligraphy. We recommend keeping the same style of stationery throughout your special day so that it looks totally coordinated. This really is such a romantic option for your Autumn wedding, don’t you think?

f a rustic woodland affair sounds right up your street, listen up folks! A colour palette consisting of dark, forest green and lots of wooden details will create an enchanting theme for an Autumn affair. This would look particularly magical if you’re tying the knot in a forest setting, or simply if you want to bring the outdoors in. The perfect fit for a country barn wedding, we suggest decorating your wedding venue with lots of long wooden trestle tables lined with wild foliage and greenery. Consider adorning your tables with lots of tea lights and candles for a warm glow as the evening draws in – you could even hang dainty fairy lights across the trees. Just think of all of the magical photographs! Weathered wooden ladders decorated with your favourite trinkets will add a personal touch to your big day, while rustic wooden pallets can be used as part of your seating plan or for woodland signs.

luxurious jewel-toned colour palette is guaranteed to capture your heart. Opt for rich purple, burgundy red, emerald green and plush navy. You could even add a splash of mustard yellow for a vibrant touch. This heavenly colour palette works perfectly with ultra-divine materials such as velvet, satin and silk. Set the scene with your wedding invitations, a garnet red ribbon will add a fabulous finishing touch to your stationery and it’ll let your guests know what to expect on the big day. Why not tie your theme in together by wrapping a long velvet ribbon in various colours around the stems of your bouquet? We love the idea of a sumptuous lounge area at your venue for your guests to enjoy a signature cocktail or two. We suggest hiring a couple of vintage armchairs and decadent couches, with an antique-style rug and coffee table. Metallic vases overflowing with deep red roses and trailing greenery will make statement centrepieces for your tables, while tall candles in various jewel hues will give your venue a romantic ambience. Work in luxe metallic such as gold and copper for a hint of understated glamour.

e love working with passionate people in the wedding industry. People who really care about their couples and want them to have the best day ever. Robyn, Wedding Planner at The Kedleston is one of those people. Here, she talks to us about her job and why you should be considering The Kedleston as the setting for your big day; "As a Wedding Planner I’m always excited to meet new couples, find out how they got engaged (subtle hints to my partner are imminent after every meeting) and what plans and wonderful ideas they have for their wedding. As a venue that doesn’t offer set packages it’s really important to me to find out as much as possible about each couple so that I can tailor a wedding to suit their needs and wants. I think that’s the best way to do it! No two weddings are the same and that’s how we treat ours, all entirely unique to each wonderful couple who walk through our doors. With that in mind, we offer entirely personalised menus with a one on one meeting with our fabulous Head Chef to talk through your ideas, your favourite food and exactly what it is you’d like to serve on your wonderful day with us! As all of our food is locally sourced produce (some of it even grown on site) it’s important to us to make sure the food reflects the amazing quality our farmers, butchers and other suppliers bring us. Being part of Derby Brewing Co we’re all about a good tipple to keep your guests merry! Whether that be a glass of fizz from a local English vineyard or a personalised cocktail designed by you and your fiancé. We even offer you the chance to create your own brew, pop down to our brewery and cook up a batch of ale with our ever so talented brewers, complete with personalised bottles and pump clips to serve. Get in touch, I’d love to show you around our gorgeous Georgian hotel and chat with you about your wedding!"

GREEN KITCHEN CAKES

S

o, if you’re stuck for ideas for your wedding cake, grab a cosy cup of tea and prepare to have those taste buds tantalised as we get to know more about Green Kitchen Cakes… What inspired you to start a wedding cake business, and have you always wanted to design and create cakes? I’ve always loved baking but didn’t start baking seriously until after university. Since then I haven’t looked back! I love being a small part of such a happy occasion and it’s always a privilege to help create a cake that’s personal to a couple. Do you offer your couples cupcake-style cakes, as well as traditional wedding cakes? We mainly offer tiered wedding cakes; however, cupcakes are a popular choice too. Often couples like the ease with which cupcakes can be served to guests. They can also be a great addition to a wedding cake, they can be used as wedding favours or even edible place names. We’ve also created cupcake decorating stations, where guests can add whatever toppings they want. A fun activity to help keep guests entertained with a tasty end result! What is your favourite style / design of cake to create for couples? Over the years our style has evolved and we mainly create less formal wedding cakes, usually involving buttercream rather than traditional icing, or the popular naked and semi-naked cakes. This attracts couples who have the same vision for their wedding and wedding cake. I love incorporating flowers onto wedding cakes, whether coordinating with the rest of the venue, or especially edible flowers and leaves. A pretty way to add colour that you can also eat! It’s great when couples also want to add a personal touch to their cake. Either something as simple as picking their favourite flavour or a meaningful cake topper, to adding elements to the design that’s unique to them. Do you see any upcoming wedding cake trends for weddings in 2018? Semi-naked cakes continue to be really popular with a few new twists on how to decorate them. Foliage is another big trend. You don’t necessarily have to include lots of flowers into your wedding decor, you

W W W.

THE

can create impact using greenery. This can also be incorporated as part of the cake design to create an organic, natural look. But the beauty of doing your wedding your way, is that you can choose whatever style you love, regardless of trends. Which are your most popular flavours? Or do you have any recommended flavour combinations? Classic flavours such as vanilla, lemon and chocolate are always popular and are usually a crowd pleaser. Couples this year have also been choosing some more unusual flavour combinations such as white chocolate and prosecco cake with strawberry buttercream and earl grey cake with vanilla buttercream. If you’re having a tiered cake you can have a different flavour for each tier which means you don’t have to narrow down your choice to just one type of cake! My main advice would be to choose flavours that you enjoy and don’t feel like you have to have any traditional fruit cake if you’re not a fan. How would you recommend couples choose a style of cake, where should they start? E.g colour schemes, Pinterest etc Think about what kind of wedding are you having. Do you want your cake to match the style of your venue? E.g. naked cakes for a barn/ festival wedding. Start looking at inspiration pictures either in magazines or on websites such as Pinterest. Are you drawn to any particular styles of cake? Or any specific elements from cakes that you’ve seen? Come along to a consultation. We’ll talk about what ideas you have for your wedding cake. But don’t worry if you’re not sure what you want as I can offer as much guidance/inspiration as you’d like.

or those of you just starting out on that all important wedding dress hunt, it’s crucial to find boutiques who really care about you and your journey to finding ‘the one’. The passion and dedication Alexandra Anne shows to her craft is amazing and we love working with her. Take it from us, her boutique is utterly gorgeous and we know you won’t be disappointed if you pay her a visit … here we put her in the hot seat … Ally, how long has Alexandra Anne been open for now? Over three years now – although having dreamt about it for over 10 years it seems like we’ve been doing it forever! Living the dream as they say... How would you describe the ‘Alexandra Anne’ experience? First and foremost, fun! Personally, we think it’s important to get the right balance between a luxurious experience and one that you feel you can just ‘be you’, relax and enjoy. This normally begins with some refreshments – there are always plenty of Jammie Dodgers & bottomless cups of tea here to keep the energy levels up! Our two hour appointments allow time for brides to really indulge in the dress buying experience. It’s such a special and exciting time that shouldn’t be rushed. We are not waiting to roll our eyes at the first sight of your finest and trusty grey underwear! With a luxuriously spacious, comfortable and private changing room all to yourself, you can feel calm in the knowledge that we deal with any body worries discreetly. There are no limits to what can be achieved – let your creative bridal imagination run wild – we love it!

THE

Whereabouts are you? We are very fortunate to be hidden away in a beautiful barn on the Chatsworth Country Estate in Derbyshire. The views are just incredible here with all the fresh air and time out a bride could want! That and a cheeky slice of cake from the farm shop just over the road... Which designers do you stock? We can’t tell you how in love we are with our designers at the moment, the collections are just getting more and more amazing! Without a doubt the ‘Jesus Peiro’ collection has something everyone will love and designs that just have that wonderful twist on tradition. We also stock ‘Charlie Brear’, a design goddess in our minds – one for the super creative, seperates loving bride. ‘Rembo Styling’ is one of our absolute favourites with their boho, relaxed vibes and contemporary lace work. To top it off we have the stunning ‘San Patrick’ gowns alongside the truly glamorous ‘Eliza Jane Howell’ who is now a finalist for the 2017 Best British Bridalwear Designer in the Bridal Awards. So much to enjoy! What do you love most about working in the bridal industry? Where do we start?! In general I just love being totally absorbed in this creative industry. There are so many wonderful and clever people conceiving all kinds of amazing ideas for couples. To be swept up in dresses designed by people I have admired for years is just a pure pleasure. Seeing the smiles and confidence this gives to our brides and their families is honestly priceless.

What can brides expect when they come and see you for an appointment? Diversity. We pride ourselves on having a contemporary and eclectic collection here at Alexandra Anne, but if that isn’t to your taste there is a beautiful and equally extensive selection of more romantic and classic styles too. You can rely on adding that little extra twist though, we do love a creative curveball! We source exquisite little handmade extras from all over the world so you can accessorize until your heart’s content.

THE SOULJERS

32

W W W. S

A V E T H E D A T E M A G A Z I N E .CO.UK

S AV E

S

o, Sarah, for anyone that hasn't seen The Souljers in action, can you describe your style of entertainment?

I'd say Jersey Boys meets Bruno Mars with a sprinkling of Five (yes Five) along the way! I think the thing that gets commented on the most (after the ridiculous amount of energy that goes into the performance) is that it feels like two separate shows; a slick and stylish first half which is really visual and is a brilliant sing-along and then a second half that is more like a live disco - it's just so much fun, the entire audience always joins in and has a blast! What do you think makes your band different to the others?

THE

DAT E

- it's so special! We then encourage everyone onto the dancefloor at the halfway point of the first dance and, with a full floor, this is where we sneakily set up our mic stands behind everyone else, ready to start our first set as soon as the song ends. This means that we start off with a full dancefloor and it's then simply our job to keep them there! What’s the criteria to become a souljer!? Talented and energetic but, mostly, you need to just love to perform and do whatever is best for that bride and groom and their guests. The whole reason you're there is for them and, with the show we have, it's in your hands to give them the best night of their lives.

We purposely tried very hard to create a show that isn't like anything else out there today and, whilst bands and DJ's might even play the same or similar songs to us, they won't be delivered in the same way, that's for sure! Most other bands and acts tend to think from a musician's point of view, whilst we are all from a production and stage show background - having spent many years between us on cruise ships, touring European theatres, managing our own dance crews and so on - so our experience in these fields allows us to create a spectacle, a "show" and something that people won't forget. We are probably the only band out there today that is aimed exclusively at weddings and so our set list is geared towards pleasing all ages of audiences. Our superstar DJ, Matty of Rockafella DJ's, is included in every package and continues in the same thread as the show too, so it's a flawless transition.

The Souljer style

What songs do the band enjoy the most?

We always believed that we could create a show that was nothing like anything out there, not a solo singer or an acoustic group nor a full on band or just a DJ, we believed there was an in between; small enough to fit in all venues but scalable for larger venues too. Most importantly though, this was led entirely by a massive desire to be exhaustively entertaining and fantastically fun, through full choreography and dance routines alongside vocal harmonies - only playing songs that fill a dancefloor, we found a perfect mix that now works with all audiences of all ages.

We love Bruno Mars so Uptown Funk and 24k Magic go down incredibly well. Having said that, Five's "Keep On Movin'" is very difficult to top - it is such a floor filler. The Souljers definitely have a thing for Five, I'm telling you! On that note then, what’s your trick for filling a dancefloor? All audiences need a reason to be somewhere and they won't just turn up because you'd like them to, so our top tip for filling the dancefloor is to make sure that they have something to be there for. The first dance is by far the best time to get everyone together, so we created a really lovely intro for the first dance with all of the guests around the dancefloor, perfect background music and amazing lighting to set the scene and Adam brings in the bride and groom to rapturous applause

W W W.

Now this is our area: style! You can see that we're a slick, cool and vibrant bunch and so style is high on our list of priorities. As a wedding band you need to look better than everyone else in the room - except the bride and groom, of course! Finally, Sarah, whose idea was The Souljers and how did it come about? The Souljers was born from a need for Adam to get back to full stage shows. Adam was performing at exclusive weddings as a solo swing singer but missed the energy and fun of larger shows.

he Lace Market Hotel is a beautiful, original setting for a chic, city centre wedding. Here, Dan & Jessi tied the knot and tell us all about their big day: “After being together for 8 years, we both wanted an intimate low key wedding with our families and closest friends. We loved the style of the restaurant and bar at the Lace Market Hotel and knew it would be the ideal place for our celebrations. The head chef at the Lace Market said he would create a menu of our choice. We both thought tapas would be a great idea as it would enhance the informal relaxed feel we wanted for the day and encourage our guests to mingle. Our ceremony was at Bridgford Hall, in West Bridgford. We both know the area well, I (Dan) work close by and we often go to West Bridgford for a coffee or dinner. We had an understated seasonal scheme with the wildflowers of the bouquet acting as a unifying theme. Overall, we wanted a very natural look for the flowers and this carried over to the cake and the way we decorated the reception venue. We used all our own vases of different sizes to arrange the flowers across the tables in the bar and the restaurant. We had a Prosecco reception and the Lace Market Hotel put on a great bar, with a particularly good selection of gins and whiskeys. As for the food, we wanted to try something a bit different. We both love tapas, and the head chef said he could do whatever we wanted, so we thought why not? Everyone thought the food was amazing, which was lovely to hear and it brought everyone together. It also meant with a lot of smaller plates it would ensure that there would be something for everyone. We made our own playlist; a list of our favourite songs that we thought our guests would enjoy. Our philosophy was to keep it simple. If you give people great food, drink and company then they will go home happy."

An absolutely fantastic team.

They make you feel so relaxed, especially if you are wooden and awkward in front of the camera. The photos are so beautiful. Friendly professionalism.

They kept in touch with little surprises through the post and email updates. Their eye for detail is stunning. Discreet, with no request being too much. Calm. Thank you thank you thank you!!

Our wedding album came yesterday, and it’s stunning. If I’m honest I got very emotional and shed a few tears. Oh wow these are amazing!! Photos we will cherish forever.

e’re huge fans of Rachael Connerton Photography here at Save the Date Magazine HQ, and we just knew we had to share Sarah & Luke’s beautiful big day. Let’s hand you over to Rachael, to tell us a little more about the inspiration for this gorgeous wedding celebration at Stapleford Park… "Shooting amongst the fading lavender to replicate the shot I knew Sarah and Luke loved so much from their pre-wedding shoot, I was one very happy photographer. The last of the beautiful October sunshine meant that we meandered happily through the breathtaking grounds at Stapleford Park (It also meant that we were treated to glimpses of heavenly detail on Sarah’s dress as she turned with a huge smile to look back at her new husband!) I was expecting beautiful understated elegance (Sarah and I had chatted excitedly about her love of nudes and neutrals), I was expecting stunning florals, courtesy of the incredible ‘Sophie’s Flower Company’ (and I certainly wasn’t disappointed) and I was expecting lots of beautifully happy close family moments (as I knew there were some extra special family connections). What I wasn’t expecting was how naturally effortless it would all feel – Sarah and Luke just seemed to melt into each other and were so relaxed and happy - it was completely infectious. As I said, family is really important to Sarah and Luke, so much so that when I asked them why they fell in love with Stapleford Park their response was that they wanted to choose a venue which was local to them so that all of their family (and particularly their grandparents) could attend, which was so special to hear. Second only to them seeing each other for the first time as Sarah walked down the aisle. They both explained that one of their favourite moments was when they greeted their guests in the gardens as husband and wife and then having all their friends and family together for the whole day. Over to Sarah for a few more details...‘We wanted our wedding to be very elegant, romantic and classic. We were drawn to the character of not only the building of Stapleford itself, but also the grounds – we joked that if they were to get married it would simply have to be Stapleford and low and behold, our dreams came true! We also wanted our day to be simple and loved the nude tones we chose and the beautiful lanterns – we had our heart set on having a candle light evening.

I had an idea in my head of the dress I thought I really wanted, however when I tried it on it just didn’t suit my petite frame. I tried around 12 dresses on in total and ‘the one’ just completely stood out - as I walked out of the changing room at Annie Laurie everyone just loved it and I felt so sophisticated, classic and elegant in this dress, which is exactly how I hoped I’d feel. I have always had a real love for flowers and white hydrangeas are my favourite. Sophie at Sophie’s Flower Company helped us brilliantly to create the exact look that we were aiming for. Sophie also gave us Rachael’s contact details. I made contact with Rachael really just for an idea on pricing and from the moment we spoke we just clicked, we both loved the same things and I could tell that Rachael had a real passion for her work. We thoroughly enjoyed our pre wedding shoot with Rachael and felt relaxed from the moment we met. Rachael’s husband, Ian is just as lovely as Rachael and we both had so much fun working with them, nothing was too much. To all brides and grooms to-be, I have one word - Relax!!! We were both very nervous on the morning of the big day but there really was no need. Also make sure you enjoy and take in every second - everyone says that the day passes by with a blue, but it really does go so fast!’ I loved delivering Sarah and Matt’s album to them and reminiscing about their incredible day (over a cup of tea or two!). It was so special to hear all their exciting plans and projects for their first year as Mr and Mrs and I’m really looking forward to keeping in touch and hearing more!"

ichie Muir is a big favourite of Save the Date Magazine. If you’ve attended any of our Wedding Event with a Difference events, chances are you will have seen him, guitar in hand, belting out a tune and getting everyone tapping their feet. From walking down the aisle accompanied by a live acoustic guitar and then during the champagne reception or wedding breakfast and then onto the evening and partying away into the night to the Richie Muir Band and DJ set, the options with Richie are simply endless. Having played professionally for over 20 years, Richie works tirelessly at every wedding to give the bride and groom a perfect soundtrack to their day. The memory of themselves, family and friends in a big circle dancing at the end of the evening is something that lasts forever. I asked Richie for a bit more information on the service he provides and here’s his response:

“The music I perform is a take on classics and contemporary music in an upbeat live lounge type of way using acoustic guitar, bass, drums and 3 voices. We work very hard on getting the set list and volume just perfect to have a great evening and keep the dance floor full, which is ultimately the main goal. Above all I can guarantee the finest upbeat and happy live music for your wedding and my constant desire to give the bride and groom everything they want musically for their big day. If a couple is interested in booking myself they should visit my website at www.richiemuir.com." We LOVE Richie and know that you will too.
