his wedding is dreamy – everything about it! From that gorgeous Grace Love Laces gown to the DIY elements and personal touches. In fact, almost every detail and decoration was created by the bride, Sarah and her lovely wedding helpers. With 12 bridesmaids in white, plenty of sunshine and some rather cool tipis, this wedding is bound to inspire your very own celebration. Captured by one of our faves, Rosie Kelly Photography, Sarah and Sam are here to tell us more… “We decided on our theme pretty much straight away. Feathered wings have always been an obsession of mine along with all-things nature and outdoors. Sam and I have known each other since we were 12, the day I walked back into his family home as his girlfriend a mere 12 years later, I had a single white feather attached to my back. Sadly, in the time we had been out of each other’s lives Sam’s dad Kimbo passed away and my lovely mother in law always says he is a white feather and visits us all whenever we see one. She said she knew the day she saw me with that feather on my back, that I was the one, he

7

S AV E

approved of Sam’s choice! She told me this after we got engaged and the wedding theme was settled. Feathers everywhere! The combination of our love of nature, being outdoors and our chosen theme meant there was no other choice but to have a tipi. This could only be set in my favourite place in the whole world; my childhood home. It works perfectly as the church is over the road, and we could walk straight from the church with all our wonderful guests to the reception. I could not be happier with my choice of photographer! Rosie & Kye captured the day so beautifully and I will treasure those memories forever. I am pretty awkward in front of the camera and they managed to catch all the natural moments and all the details. Thomas the Caterer is a culinary genius. From our first meeting, where we filled in a questionnaire about our lives and favourite food, I knew we would get along! After filling in the questionnaire we told him what we wanted on our menu and he kindly pointed out that we hadn’t put any of your favourite foods on the menu! He was right, so we changed our menu to all our favourites! It is your day so eat everything that you love! When it came to the cake I knew I was in safe hands and didn’t give it a second thought. Liz Kelly, baker extraordinaire (otherwise known as mum), had my back and would create the most wild and whimsical cake beyond my imagination! The cake incorporated every bit of the theme, tipis, sugar feathers, flowers, long grass, twigs, leaves and butterflies. I might add she just whipped this up alongside a thousand other things I asked her to help. We had one crazy party! All thanks to Bahookie. They are a rock Ceildh band and they got everyone on the dancefloor! There was only ever one dress maker in my mind. I first heard of Grace Loves Lace when living in Sydney. I wanted a beautiful, unique and comfortable dress. That is exactly what Grace Loves Lace have achieved. I wore the Hollie 2.0 dress, I tried this on in front of my best friend, mum and sister and there was no turning back! Obviously, I then tried on the longest veil in the shop and fell in love with the whole package and made the purchase then and there in the most gorgeous, relaxing showroom in London. It is safe to say I had a ‘flock’ of bridesmaids, made up of 12 of my nearest and dearest friends that I couldn’t have done the day without. After asking all the girls to join the flock came the realisation I needed

8

to dress 12 girls! I asked my Aussie bridesmaid to do some dress hunting for me as she always looks incredible. Low and behold, a couple of days later she sent me pictures of this beautiful, white lace dress, with an open back, in the sale at £40. As ever, the groom had one job! To sort the suits...naturally this was left until 3 weeks before the wedding! Luckily, Hockerty were able to whip up some custom-made suits for the 12 men that needed them! Racing green knitted ties were bought from M&S and the boys all looked extremely handsome! For the flower girls, I bought lots of fawny coloured tulle and made some rather over the top (but in my eyes perfect tutus)! To finish off the outfit, I thought every girl needs a crown, so I whipped up some little feather headdresses. The Flower Plant prepared the most incredible wild bouquets, buttonholes and flower crown that fitted the theme beautifully, full of all things green and feathery. My flower crown was ivy, eucalyptus and feathers, it even withstood the dog jumping on my head! My mum, sister and I got up at 4am a couple days before the wedding and went to Birmingham Flower Market to buy lots of foliage. We supplemented this with foraged foliage from the garden and fields at my parent’s house. My mum used the foraged foliage and market flowers to make a wild flower arch at the church as well. My mum liked to call our wedding ‘the wedding made from a ball of string’ and it really was! I always dreamed of creating a whimsical and wild feel to our day and that is what I set out to do. I started early so not to overwhelm myself with the task I had undertaken and to enjoy each creation and the memories I made with my family and friends who I called upon to join the creative flock! I decided I wanted my tipi to smell great, so in my teeny tiny kitchen wedding favours in the form of candles were conjured up. I made 10 or so each weekend, so I didn’t bore myself, all made from soy wax and mint and lemon essential oils. To personalise the candles I stuck our wedding logo that I designed on to the jar. At the same time I began to grow wild mint and bought tiny terracotta pots which I eventually planted the home grown mint in and also gave as favours.

S A V E T H E D A T E M A G A Z I N E .CO.UK

The table plan was a family masterpiece! Mum and I spent hours together creating a papier-mâché tree! We made it as life-like as we could adding moss and plants to the structure. We then hung all the names of the guests on the branches. We also made a hole in the tree so people could post cards on the day. I made a large canvas sign to hang on the wall where guests arrived that said, ‘Come with me where dreams are made and time is never planned’. I decided to take the DIY a step further and even made the napkins! After seeing how much they were, we just bought a roll of fabric, cut it into squares and distributed them to all family and friends to fray the edges! The list goes on, we made fine macramé nets with feathers and flowers to flank the walkway to the patio where canapés were served. We also created a gin bar from a horse box; my dad and now husband spent hours on it and it was worth it and a lot of gin was consumed! Bride and Groom thrones and a wooden tipi from odd pieces of wood we found for the photobooth background. We could go on forever…

Plan early, get all your friends and family involved; it is a great excuse to get everyone together! Decide on a theme you are passionate about and roll with it throughout all your planning!

pring has finally arrived and it's got us busy daydreaming about beautiful blooms here at Save the Date Magazine HQ and in this edition, we're focusing on fabulous floral installations. We're having a natter with some of our wonderful florists (you'll find them all over on our Cream of the Crop Wedding Directory), and they're offering their expert advice on how floral installations and displays can transform your wedding day. From ceremony archways to raised centrepieces, it's time to get your dose of floral inspiration...

Laura & Scott at Avant Garden Weddings love nothing more than a floral installation or two! “Make the most of the areas of your venue that you love and make displays from the key focal areas, such as your ceremony space, guest tables, top table and cake table. They are viewed throughout the day and will make the most impact.”

When it comes to wild, rambling blooms for your big day, look no further than Elder & Wild. Becky says, “Large floral installations make bold statements. Use bigger floral pieces to draw the eye to important points, for instance at the end of the aisle to frame the ceremony or above the dance floor to fill the space.”

Rachel of Catkin Flowers calls installations a bespoke piece of floral art. “They help to create atmosphere for your guests. Mine are full, abundant and botanical – perfect if you have a love of nature!”

Tineke Floral Designs

The lovely team at Jo Beth Floral Design know a thing or two about beautiful blooms and told us, “When thinking about your floral installations, consider changes in the height of designs to make the room look bigger. If you have a limited budget, focus on one wow factor design and move it from the ceremony room to the reception.”

We adore working with Kerry at Tineke Floral Designs, a multi award-winning florist in Derbyshire. “We used lots of foliage for Ellen & Ben’s floral wedding installation. With an abundance of trailing foliage garlands, from the church archway to suspended chandeliers. The eucalyptus scent filled the marquee!”.

Where Bees Meet

Instagram Handle: @wherebeesmeet

Charlotte of Frond & Bloom says, “This floral installation is a fresh take on an archway. It can be used to dress a fireplace, at the end of an aisle or anywhere that needs the wow factor at your wedding.”

Established in 2011, Sophie’s Flower Company uses nature to inspire her floral designs. “I seem to be drawn to create installations that are natural in styling, suitable to the seasons. I used mainly British flowers for this archway, with beautiful four-foot fox gloves.”

A contemporary and creative wedding florist, Gillian of Where Bees Meet recommends to look at the way you can use statement floral installations in more than one setting. “This can include tall statement arrangements at the top of your aisle and either side of your ceremony table. You can then move these details into the room for your wedding breakfast.”

f you want on-the-day stationery and signage that’s romantic, free-spirited and completely bespoke to you, you will adore Wild Calligraphy. We’re so excited to introduce you to the owner, Faye, who creates hand calligraphy and illustrations for the rule-breaking bride and groom. So, dive into some serious stationery indulgence and get to know Wild Calligraphy… Faye, please could you tell us about your business and how you started Wild Calligraphy? Wild Calligraphy is a Custom Calligraphy Studio specialising in on-theday Wedding Stationery. I've always loved hand-writing. I was the go-to bubble writer throughout GCSE group tasks turned flip-chart master at Uni. My mum encouraged me to create our signage when I couldn't find the perfect fit for our venue, heaps of training and practise later and it has evolved into my lovely business.

16

W W W.

What stationery / products do you offer couples? Wild offer all on-the-day Stationery from Place Cards to Signage – Essentially, fancy writing on any surface! All goods are personalised as standard which is my favourite thing about Wild. How does the process work? When you get in touch, I'll recommend options for each item you would like, of different materials at different price points. I encourage clients to chop and change until they're happy. Once the final items and quantities are decided you'll be sent an invoice. You may either: pay in full and receive items soon after OR pay a 50% deposit with the final payment due 8 weeks prior to the wedding date. Your items will be sent at least 4 weeks before your wedding.

What inspires you with your design work? So many different factors! But mostly the initial chats I have with clients. I try to get as much information from you as possible, the venue you've chosen and details that are important to you about your day and your plans including flowers you might love and colours you want in the wedding. I'll then make suggestions and we'll go from there; you can have as much or as little input as you like. What do you love most about working in the wedding industry? I love reliving the excitement of getting engaged and hearing people's stories, but my favourite has to be feedback when clients have received their items. I work so hard to produce next level work that will WOW your guests and make great keepsakes for years to come, so I love it when clients are over the moon with their custom items.

Stationery Indulgence

Who would be your dream client? I love stripped back, intimate weddings but equally huge outdoor parties! Your wedding is a reflection of you and we're all so different. I'd say one thing that connects my clients is that they're detail orientated people who appreciate the skill in what I do. You can keep up to date with all things WILD on Instagram @wildcalligraphygb and I'd love to hear from you. I'm excited to announce my first Calligraphy Workshops in collaboration with The Knot Bridal (Hockley, Nottingham City) | April 26th 6-8pm and April 27th 12-2pm | Full details available on www.wildcalligraphygb.com/shop

he doors of Frances Day Bridal have been open since January 2017 and Julia, the owner has been welcoming brides into this stylish yet relaxed boutique ever since. Located in the quaint market town of Southwell in Nottinghamshire, you will find the dreamiest collection of handpicked wedding dresses from some of the best bridal designers out there. The experience itself is wonderful, from the second you step into the studio to the moment you walk down the aisle in your gown. Sounds like perfection, right? We’re having a natter with Julia to find out the latest #weddinggossip at Frances Day Bridal… What is the process when booking an appointment at Frances Day Bridal? We often start our first communications with our clients on Instagram. We like to get a feel for where our brides are in their bridal journey, what styles they feel drawn to and detailing what they love prior to their first appointment with us.

complimentary and last for an hour and a half. During our highly anticipated designer collection events there is an appointment fee of £20 which is fully redeemable against the purchase of any dress with us. How would you describe the Frances Day experience? First and foremost, we want all our clients to feel super relaxed and at ease both in the space and with us. We like to really get to know you and have a good old giggle along the way whilst creating you the most divine luxury couture gown. We are a small and personable team and pride ourselves in the tiniest details to achieve sheer bridal style perfection - this is what gives us kicks! Which designers do you stock? We are proud to present some of the bridal industries leading couturiers including Suzanne Neville, Jenny Packham, Jesus Peiro and Stephanie Allin. We are also thrilled to work with I Am Florence shoes and Miss Clemmie Bridal Accessories to polish those bridal looks to perfection! How many people would you advise to bring along to an appointment? We strongly recommend keeping your tribe to a minimum during your appointment (max 3 people). Although the thought of having all of your nearest and dearest with you is appealing, in reality it is an overwhelming time as it is and too many opinions can prove to be counterproductive for the bride. You will be with us on many occasions to try your dress on in the run up to your wedding so plenty of opportunity to bring along different people with you. What is the most popular choice of wedding dress? We pride ourselves in dressing our clients to their personalities rather than their body shapes. The most important thing when choosing your wedding dress is to go with a style that you feel the ultimate version of yourself in. The shape will naturally fall in line with this. What is your number one tip for brides about to embark on the search for 'The One'? Find a boutique that you identify with and that you have a rapport with. You need to feel 100% confident that they understand your needs and wishes in your dress. Be open minded to their suggestions - you have put the research into finding this boutique and they have in depth knowledge of their collections as well as other bridal designers that may be of interest to you.

Not only are they embarking on their 10th year in business this year, they are also excited to be adding a new and rather gorgeous wedding venue to their curated collection of East Midlands wedding venues – The Kedleston Country House. We have a chat with the sisters behind this successful business, Helen & Sally; “It has always been a dream of ours to have our very own 'Honeysuckle & Castle' venue and as we enter our 10th year of business and our dream looks to be turning a reality, we couldn't help but widely open our portfolio doors to the much loved Kedleston Country House. It seemed like the perfect time for us to not only add a new venue to our portfolio, but to put the 'Honeysuckle & Castle' stamp on a wedding venue that was already established within the area”, says Helen.

She continues, “The Kedleston Country House is just a stone's throw away from the historic Kedleston Hall; a venue which we also currently have the pleasure of coordinating weddings at. However, the National Trust have plans and projects here that have meant we have put a pause to the wedding bookings. This doesn't stop us from using the breathtaking grounds of Kedleston Hall for photos though, which is something we are offering our Kedleston Country House couples in our wedding packages*." The Kedleston Country House is a stunning Georgian-Adams property and has been transformed into a modern country house with rolling countryside views. The house was originally designed in 1760, as the coaching inn for Kedleston Hall, and it was reopened in 2015 by Derby Brewing Company. Lovingly refurbished with unique touches from local craftsmen, the house is cosy yet inviting, with hidden nooks nestled in every corner.

C R E AT I V E PERFECTION

AT THE PUMPING HOUSE H AV E A N O S E Y

T

he Pumping House is an effortlessly stylish wedding venue with modern industrial vibes, set in the heart of Sherwood Forest. Their lovely team promise to make every aspect of your wedding day (and the planning process) stress-free; ensuring making sure your day is everything you have always wanted. Emma & James tied the knot at this beautiful red brick building and it provided the perfect backdrop to their love story. We’re handing you over to Ellie, the Wedding & Events Manager at The Pumping House so you can find out a little more… “Emma and James were married here at the Pumping House on Friday 4th January. We first met the couple back in Spring 2018, their love for each other and their families was so clear and naturally, was the centre of their day. Emma arrived on Thursday with her Mum, relaxed and excited. Our bride had purchased many of their table decorations (including the fabulous grey tablecloths) from H&M home. The decorations were further complimented by the most-subtle yet dreamy details such as leather ties around the napkins and beautifully printed menu cards.

31

Emma stayed that night in our Mulberry Suite and we closed the doors to our venue knowing that the following day was going to be one to remember... The day of the wedding was a crisp, January morning, our beautiful Bride was preparing for her day in the Bridal Suite, assisted by the incredible Amy George Make-Up Artist. Just as we thought the room dressing couldn't get any better, the lovely Tracey from Campbells Flowers arrived. Emma was keen to show a combination of her love of British wildflowers and her South African heritage and of course the ladies at Campbells Flowers delivered! The colours were something we had never seen before together and were so refreshing to see for a winter wedding! To accompany the stunning table flowers, Tracey had fashioned a hanging flower bomb to sit over the top table. Next to arrive was Henry Lowther, so lovely and a photographer we had worked with before and has always been one of our favourites. As the guests began to take their seats in the Ollerton Room, Emma arrived into our Bridal Boutique looking simply stunning in her Charlie Brear gown. The ceremony was personal and full of romance; friends and family read readings chosen by the couple and the Buzztones (an A Capella group the groom was a part of - cool right?!) sang throughout the signing of the register. Whilst Henry took the bride and groom off for their woodland shots, their guests enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception complete with a self-serve gin bar and acapella music. For the wedding breakfast, Emma & James opted for a tapas menu by our incredibly talented in-house caterers - Gail Dandy Catering. Starters were anti-pasti boards filled with a selection of breads, cheese, meat and olives and their main course included meatballs, garlic and chilli prawns plus some incredible vegetarian dishes for their vegetarian and vegan friends! Guests finished their meal with a tempting choice between Tiramisu and Lemon Sorbet. As the best man put down the microphone following his speech, the evening reception began with music from our in-house DJ and a pizza menu catered for by Gail Dandy Catering.â€?

SPRING HAS SPRUNG

W

e’ve worked with the Walled Garden for longer than we can remember and have a real soft spot for this quaint, pretty and stylish wedding venue. It ticks so many boxes and they always ensure they stay ahead of the trends with innovative ideas and a team who really care. So imagine our delight when we met with them recently and they told us all about their head gardener who they’d taken on purely to ensure the garden was kept in constant tip-top shape. We had the pleasure of meeting with Mel their gardener and we all agreed that she really does have the dream job - surrounded by the beauty of this walled garden every day, breathing in the fresh air and soaking up the delights of each season. We managed to have a catch up with Mel to find out a bit more; So Mel, how long have you been working at the Walled Garden for?

What is your primary role? My Primary role is to ensure the Garden is looking beautiful and event ready no matter the season, from maintaining and redesigning the flowers beds to sourcing interesting vintage items to add further character to the venue. What do you love about your job? I love working in a historic garden, knowing that there is over 100 years of History within the walls! I have creative freedom to ensure each element of our space is on trend and really enjoy inspiration trips and Nursery visits where I am able to bring new and fresh ideas to our space. What do you find the most challenging aspect of your job? Ensuring year round interest and colour is every gardeners task and as our garden is used for events year round, working with maximising the seasons is more important than ever. Describe the gardens and the setting and how this creates the perfect backdrop for a wedding day. Our garden is a secret oasis - you are surrounded by Victorian brick walls which gives our venue a private and intimate setting. We have many of the garden's original features on display, from the wrought iron frame of the old greenhouses to the rustic wooden doors leading to Victorian out buildings. The garden gets the sun all day which means our lawns are perfect for sitting back and relaxing! We have special features within the garden which act as a perfect backdrop for your wedding photos, such as the Bramley apple arch draped in festoon lights, the Rust Rose Obelisks and the Wisteria framing an old Victorian door. As we are placed next to a golf course we are surrounded by trees and fields on the outer walls, creating a peaceful and idyllic atmosphere for your wedding day.

From stylish copper to elegant calligraphy, you can count on Rose Press to provide you with stationery that will leave you and your guests swooning. This boutique design and letterpress studio specialise in bespoke designs, offering a personal touch to your celebration. We’ve had a natter with Nicola about how you can use stationery to style your wedding day. “When planning your wedding, the theme and style of the day will be one of the first things to think about and your invitations will give your guests the first glimpse of everything that is to come on the big day. But that’s not where it ends for stationery. To continue the theme running throughout your wedding, well-chosen on the day stationery will combine with your flowers and other styling elements to keep guests informed and (more importantly!) keep everything looking pretty. We’ve rounded up some of our favourite on the day stationery items from past couples to give you some inspiration for styling your special day.

1

A Statement Welcome Welcome signs will often be the first thing your guests will see when they arrive at your wedding, so you’ll want to make a big statement about what is to come. Easels or A-frames are a great way to welcome your guests and when combined with flowers can really set the scene for your day.

2

Please beSeated

Perhaps second only to the cake, the table plan forms one of the main styling elements of your wedding breakfast. It’s the first thing your guests will gravitate to on entering your venue so you don’t want to miss the chance for some extra wow factor. We love to be creative here; think crystal clear suspended acrylic, luxurious fabric drapes, individual name cards with the perfect rustic backdrop or large boards bursting with flowers and foliage.

Lets Eat

Place settings give a great opportunity to add extra style to your wedding tables. Once again, table stationery is key to continuing your theme. Get creative with place names whether you opt for simple tent cards with hot foil details, calligraphy tags or individual laser cut names the options are endless. Personalised menus are a great way to remind your guests of their choices and can include guest names or be combined with tags to give an extra personal touch.” GET IN TOUCH www.rosepress.co.uk e: hello@rosepress.co.uk Fb - facebook.com/rosepressdesign | Insta - instagram.com/rosepress Photography Credits | Left Page: Twig and Vine Photography | Right Page: Image 1 & 3: Lee Garland Photography, Image 2: Rachael Connerton Photography W W W.

WEDDING GOSSIP

W

e’ve been following the work of Sarah Salotti for years and she has carved a hugely-respected reputation in the wedding industry as a leading photographer. One of the things we love most about Sarah is her ability to put couples at ease. Many brides and grooms don’t feel comfortable in front of the lens, but the lovely Sarah is offering her top tips to help you get camera-ready for your wedding day. “Find and choose your ideal photographer, one that you feel comfortable with and most importantly will be able to trust. Trust is one the biggest things you can give to your photographer. Trust and the relationship you build with your photographer will put you at ease and help to create natural looking pictures. Don’t forget that it’s equally important to love the pictures that they produce and see their passion for what they do. Don’t compromise.

54

S AV E

THE

Always do a pre-wedding shoot! We suggest that all of our couples do one of these before the day. This will give you the chance to be in front of the camera, to spot that first 15 mins of awkwardness and to know that it will pass. What’s left is just an easy natural time with having a bit of a laugh capturing really gorgeous images of the two of you for probably the last time before you become Mr + Mrs. It’s a great way to get to know your photographer too. Don’t forget, to help with confidence in front of a camera, stick to wearing an outfit that you feel comfortable in. Wear something you that you love, and your confidence will shine through so much more. Feel happy in yourself and have fun on the actual day of your wedding. Try not to worry about all those things that you have organised and planned for months; remember you planned and organised them for months so that on your big day you don’t have to! Remember to switch off now and again from everything going on around you and be in the moment with your partner, your photographs will show that connection. Don’t worry about how the pictures will turn out. You’ve gone with that photographer for a reason, remember to trust them, have FUN and your amazing photographer will do the rest!”

THE CUSP OF SPRING

luxury wedding planner with a flair for design, we can always count on Natalie Hewitt to provide us with plenty of gorgeous inspiration to make our hearts flutter, and this styled shoot is certainly no exception. With beautiful imagery by Anna at Pear & Bear Photography and inspired by nature, In The Stix was the perfect setting. We’ll let Natalie tell you all about the day… “Picture the scene; the sun is shining without a cloud in the sky, we’re surrounded by trees and grass fields and there is a babbling brook which the sun light dances off. We are close to Stamford and the A1 but you wouldn’t know it – we feel completely immersed in nature and can only hear the birds overhead! In the Stix is a trendy glamping site, with four luxury domes; each with a log burner inside for cosy nights, an adjacent kitchen with gas hob for a more rustic camping experience, woodfire pizza ovens on the porch and a wooden hot tub to relax in.

57

Opening their doors to marquee and tent weddings from spring 2019, In the Stix is the perfect location for celebrating your marriage in a relaxed, fun and unique setting. Our beautiful shoot introduces you to the stunning setting, as well as inspiring you for an elegant, yet relaxed styled wedding, at one with nature. Imagine having a personal ceremony outdoors, conducted by a celebrant in front of the most beautiful floral arch, surrounded by your closest friends and family. The most luxurious outdoor lounge area to relax and enjoy a glass of champagne after and an alfresco wedding breakfast to follow. Partying the night away in a Teepee or Sperry tent and at the end of the night, curling up in your dome, in front of the log burner, reminiscing on the day you have just had! As a wedding planner and designer, I am passionate about creating not only a perfectly planned day, with the best supplier team, but also to design a bespoke look for my couples that truly reflects their style and taste. Attention to detail is just as important as the overall look. Luxurious bohemian styling is my signature look; classic, timeless, relaxed and fun is the essence of our weddings and events. And In the Stix creates a perfect location for our couples wanting a beautiful, yet fun celebration. I loved designing and planning this shoot – it’s really made me want to plan my wedding again! The flowers were inspired by the garden and hedgerows during the changing seasons. The sumptuous bouquet combined the best of the British seasonal flowers such as floating cosmos, Japanese anemones and cafe au lait dahlias with cappuccino and blush nude roses. The bouquet is stunning; with earthy tones and soft muted pinks finished off with the luxurious silk ribbon from Silk and Purl, which the wind caught so effortlessly. For me, florals always form the main focus to the styling, they set the colour palette, the feel and mood of a wedding or event. But the next key styling element was the furniture. Wedhead provided the crossback chairs and Farmhouse trestle table for the intricate tablescape; which featured Ester and Erik tapered candles, gorgeous florals and modern crystal stemware. Simple, yet beautiful! The striking crisp white cake by Katie Sanderson with real flowers looks so fresh and the subtle patterned tier to add texture and detail which I love.

So, Kirsty how long have you been a fitness coach and what’s your background? I’ve been a fitness coach (in person and online) for nearly three years - I actually used to be a lawyer! I’m not one of those people that has always been into fitness or a gym bunny - I got into it as I was approaching my 30th birthday, and previously had absolutely no interest in fitness - you could not have paid me to go to the gym! I started off going to a couple of fitness classes and as my interest grew, I decided I wanted to learn about weights. It was when I started weight training that I saw the biggest changes physically to my body. I also realised I’d found something I was so passionate about that I wanted to make it my career…so here we are! Why do you specialise in working with brides? It actually stems back to the first bride I worked with, who was the most rewarding client in terms of her story.

W E TA L K F I T N E S S & GOAL SETTING

KIRSTY V I C TO R I A G E T T I N G TO K N OW

When she first made contact with me she was overwhelmed by wedding planning and at rock bottom. She had ordered her dress a size too small (like many brides do) and 12 weeks out from her wedding day it wouldn’t even zip up. Her family weren’t overly supportive and kept telling her she’d never be able to fit into the dress. She worked with me and lost a total of 13 inches, with her dress fitting her perfectly two weeks before her wedding day. The physical weight loss was amazing, but what was even better and more rewarding for me was seeing her change along the way. She was more confident, she was happier, her skin cleared up and it was obvious from her wedding photos just how good she felt. She made me realise that brides need a fitness coach who can not only help them lose weight, but they also need someone who understands the stresses of wedding planning and how that can impact on a bride’s weight loss journey - I mean, you want to be able to eat cake without worrying and not exist on chicken and broccoli, right? Why should a bride choose to work with you over other coaches out there? A lot of fitness coaches don’t truly understand how different working

with brides is, and as a result they treat them the same as any other client. Wedding planning is stressful. Worrying about whether you’ll fit in your wedding dress is stressful. Feeling anxious over how you will look in photos on your wedding day is stressful. You don’t need the added stress of trying to lose weight by following an unrealistic and complicated food or fitness plan, given to you by someone who doesn’t understand that you want to be able to sample wedding cakes without feeling guilty. This is where I come in. I get results with my brides because I understand what they need - a simple way to lose weight without having to cut out foods they enjoy, and my support and guidance to make sure that they don’t need to worry about fitting into their wedding dress. What coaching options do you offer to brides to help them get in the best shape for their wedding? I provide online fitness coaching for my brides and I have three online fitness programmes to choose from. Online coaching is huge and growing in popularity because it is more flexible around your lifestyle for example, you haven’t got to worry about losing a session if you can’t make it - and it is also a lot more cost effective than in person coaching. My Bridal PT Membership is ideal for you if you want access to monthly workouts and food plans, as well as a supportive community, but don’t necessarily need ongoing support from me.

THE

What benefits do brides experience through working with you? The obvious one is that they don’t stress about fitting into their wedding dress and they feel amazing when they are wearing it! But the weight loss is just one aspect of it, and are plenty of other benefits - physically and internally - which brides experience but don’t always expect. Your skin gets clearer through having better food choices and being hydrated, nails and hair are stronger (hair growth is a common benefit!), your energy levels are increased, you sleep better and your mood is greatly improved. Who doesn’t want that? How far in advance would you recommend brides to start preparing themselves physically for their big day? If weight loss is your goal, give yourself as long as possible, or at least from the time you order your dress - so approximately 10 months on average. It isn’t the end of the world if you have less time than that before your wedding - that is part of the reason why I created my 8 Week Wedding Dress Transformation - but it is important to manage your expectations. What are your best 3 tips to get fit and feel the best version of yourself? Find a form of exercise you enjoy! Maybe it’s lifting weights, doing a dance class or cycling - what’s the point in doing something you hate?

My 8 Week Wedding Dress Transformation is perfect if you want to kickstart your weight loss journey or if you have less than 12 weeks to lose weight before your wedding.

Avoid fad diets which tell you to take pills or shakes, and don’t do diets that are restrictive or that tell you to completely cut out food groups they aren’t sustainable.

For those that want to work with me individually, my Bespoke One to One Coaching is for you. I only work with a limited number of brides at this level and for a minimum 3 month commitment - if you want to give yourself time to lose weight, get results and make life as easy for yourself as possible, you need this coaching.

Remember, you don’t “have” to change anything about yourself for your wedding - your partner wants to marry you. Similarly, there is no shame in using your wedding as your motivation to get fit and feel your best. Do what makes you happy!

All of my programmes give the option of gym or home workouts, so you don’t need to worry about being in a gym if that isn’t for you. If you aren’t sure which one will be better for you, get in contact and I’ll help you decide!

Having arrived around 10am on a crisp, cold but beautifully bright and sunny December day, we were given the warmest welcome and shown around the lovely facilities. Having enjoyed a hot chocolate in the relaxing café, we popped our dressing gown and slippers on and began our spa experience.

After this, we headed to the spa area and meandered around the various rooms from saunas to jacuzzi’s, steam rooms to Turkish baths. There are also 6 pools so we enjoyed a relaxing swim and loved the experience – truly tranquil and perfectly laid out.

Our first stop was the new rooftop infinity pool – a cascading infinity pool with the most spectacular views across the countryside. Here, we relaxed and chatted and soaked up the gorgeous winter weather (it’s so

It was then lunch time so we headed to the beautiful dining room (still in our dressing gown and slippers!) and enjoyed the most amazing 3 course lunch. A buffet was set out in front of us with so much incredible food from salads to curry dishes, cut meats to delicious desserts.

The service was impeccable and we ate so much! We also enjoyed a cheeky glass of prosecco (it would be rude not to!) and sat surrounded by lots of groups of giggling women (the perfect place for a pre wedding get together!) as well as couples enjoying some ‘me’ time. Following this, it was treatment time! The most amazing facial with such a lovely therapist – just what the doctor ordered. There is a huge, extensive menu of treatments on offer, you are literally spoilt for choice and all the therapists are just so warm and friendly. Around 3.30pm, it was just starting to get dark so we decided to head up to the rooftop pool just one more time to enjoy the dusk and soak up a few more minutes of the peace and tranquillity this amazing space offers. Home time and we got dressed in the huge changing rooms with power showers, mirrors, hair straighteners. They really have thought of everything. We met with a few other ladies who are regulars to Ragdale Hall Spa and we can see why – the perfect place to unwind and recharge your batteries. So, if you’re planning your wedding and in need of a destress or if you fancy getting your best girls together for a pre wedding pamper or maybe even you and your hubby to be fancy some precious time together, whatever the reason, find an excuse and head to Ragdale Hall Spa. You won’t be disappointed.
