he bohemian, folk like wedding of Oktavia and Ruben blew us away. We think you’ll feel the same … here’s the fabulous bride Oktavia; “Our ceremony was held in a forest on the Thoresby Hall Estate. Growing up in Germany I would spend a lot of time in the woods, we both love forests and knew we wanted a woodland ceremony. We wanted our ceremony setting to be outside, unusual and romantic. We looked around a lot of options, Thoresby Hall was available and happy to help us bring our idea to life. Teresa the wedding coordinator at Thoresby was so helpful in creating our vision and helping us in providing the hay bails, which completed the look. Our reception venue was held at the Tudor Barn at Warsop; We loved the rustic, countryside feel of the barn which matched perfectly with our style and theme for the day. The style of our wedding was overall a relaxed, non traditional (we wanted desperately to avoid the elegant/traditional wedding look), down to earth, village-wedding-feel and folk like party. The ceremony theme was very bohemian with dream catchers and hail bails for décor to really reflect our love of nature and the outdoors. The barn reception then had a more rustic, country feel with tables lined with wild flowers and a touch of an industrial style, with the bulb lights hanging over our top table. It was important to us to have a photographer whose style matched ours. We had seen ‘Grace Elizabeth Photography’ photograph friends of our weddings and we knew right from the start that we wanted them to photograph and film our wedding day and were so thrilled when they were able to! We loved their relaxed, natural and boho style.

They really supported and understood us and our style and were amazing on the day. I wore a dress by Katya Katya Shehurina and a bespoke flower crown. I wanted a dress that would look like it belonged in the polish countryside, to have a Slavic/Eastern European look, as my parents are originally from Poland and I love this style. The bridesmaids dresses I made myself, I wanted a relaxed look and a design that really suited everyone one of the girls. The Groomsmen wore braces, bowties and flat caps using the colour grey to match with the bridesmaid’s dresses. Ruben wanted to go for a brown tweed rustic suit and the bow tie he wore I had found in a charity shop a few years ago and I had given to him as a gift, so it had a sentimental meaning to us both. For us food was not a big fuss, it was kindly made for us by my friend and colleague from the café I work at and we just had a classic Sunday roast and in the evening we had cheese platters. Our wedding cake was homemade by one of my bridesmaids.

A big thing for us was coffee! We are big coffee lovers, in fact Ruben proposed to me in the best coffee/barista shop in Britain – so incorporating this was really important to us. When we found The Split Screen Coffee Co. we knew they would be perfect! Jen was an absolute dream, her coffee was so yummy and she also made us amazing muffins, cupcakes and macaroons! Her and her husband were so supportive and helpful to us, communications with them were great and they were so kind to us, even letting us use their own private car as our wedding car (the VW campervan), which her husband drove us in on the day! The fact that our wedding was all DIY made our wedding stand out, we did all the organising and sourcing (except for the tables and chairs which we hired). Our friends and us did everything; it was a real team effort. There was so much thought and love put into it everything, which made the whole thing so personal and unique to us. Our flowers were completely home grown by our florist Becky which made it really special, we love supporting small local businesses and a lot of thought and effort was put in to our beautiful flowers. Our bridal party organised some games during the evening; one of these was a German wedding tradition (as we are both German), the Veil Dance – every woman or man who wants to dance with the groom or bride, has to pay for it and then dances with them under the veil – our bridal party asked people to put money to contribute towards our honeymoon – which was a lovely, thoughtful sentiment. For future brides, I would say try to time your wedding well, do it at a time when you don’t have lots of other big things going on in life. Also don’t over think the little things, sometimes it really doesn’t matter that much in the end. I am a perfectionist, but at times I made myself take a step back and asked myself does it really matter if this bit isn’t 100% perfect? Relax and enjoy the process, don’t put lots of pressure on the small things.”

e enjoy working with the team at Premier. They’re professional, hard working and know a thing or two about how to style a wedding with their endless props and decor items to hire. Here, we chat to their wedding co-ordinator Libbie; So, tell me Libbie, what do you do at Premier Events and how would you sum up your role? As Premier’s Wedding Co-ordinator, I am the first point of contact for most of our couples. I typically respond to their initial phone call or email to discuss their ideas and requirements. From there, I offer advice and support on the couples requirements, typically this includes suggested timings plus any venue specific points we can advise on, such as what works well and where to position things. Also in a lot of cases, I will also set up a meeting to go into more depth as to what the bride and groom want and try and come up with creative ways in which we can achieve their ideas.

THE

DAT E

What do you love most about working for Premier Weddings? Premier is a family, and that’s the best thing. We are not the biggest events company (yet), but this means we can be really flexible and spend time with our clients to ensure we deliver the best service and advice. The team are also great, we all get on so well, which is why I think we are growing so quickly, because its not just a job for all of us here, we really do love what we do and the job satisfaction from a brilliantly executed wedding with amazing feedback, is what drives us to go above and beyond for our clients. So, there you have it. You really can be assured of exceptional customer service with Premier.

What is your favourite product/service you supply for weddings? People love a photo, especially at weddings but the traditional booths can look a bit out of place against all the pretty décor. This is why I love our new Magic Selfie Mirror because unlike a booth, it’s pretty in its own right. With its beautiful ornate frame, it looks just like a boutique floor length mirror, making it the perfect way to capture those special moments, while ensuring your décor remains classy and stylish, what’s not to love!? Talk us through your most popular requests and what seems to be trending for this year? Our most popular request has always been dance floors and LED uplighting because that’s how Ben, our MD, started to build the business along with mobile discos. Our white starlit dance floor and LED uplighters never seems to go out of fashion, and are still top of the list when it comes to wedding reception décor.

hen it comes to wedding trends in the world of flowers, Sarah at Mrs Umbels knows a thing or two … here she is to tell us what to expect; “Foliage…something we see all the time but maybe not something we really look at. There are so many shades of green from the acid limes right through to the soft silvers of Eucalyptus. And so many different shapes, round leaves, palmate leaves, spiky olive leaves and then the soft delicate fronds of ferns. This year I decided I would like to become a foliagist, I don’t think this term exists but I think it should. Flowers are beautiful and being a florist and getting to work with them every day is a joy and a privilege, but foliage also has lots to offer and sometimes something simple can more effective. The pantone colour of the year 2017 is green and for good reason… green is the background colour which gardeners and florists and indeed anyone working with plants and flowers use as a foil for the more dramatic colours of flowers…green foliage is like white walls for us flowery people, it’s a blank canvas for all those glorious colours…but I’m championing green as the new trend for this season. I was lucky enough to do a few fabulous weddings with open minded brides who trusted me to use foliage where you would normally see flowers…the effects were stunning. This year my mission is to do a wedding or event that only uses foliage….any takers? Green has a lot to offer so take a leaf (!) out of my book and start looking at foliage with new eyes, a whole new world will appear.

eciding on your photographer is tough. There are lots to choose from and it’s a field not many of us are all that familiar with. That’s why we feel it’s important for you to get to know the photographers we work with as much as possible; as they say, knowledge is power! Here, we introduce Ed Godden who we have worked with for many years. His images are timeless and quirky and he delivers a fantastic service to all his brides: So, Ed, how long have you been shooting weddings for? I shot my first wedding when I was just 19… which was nearly 20 years ago!

THE

DAT E

I tell all my couples that if they like what they see on my website, then great, lets chat! Being blown away with a great first impression of a photographer's work is very important. As well as making sure that you’ll get on well with your photographer too. When you’re not behind a camera, what are your favourite things to do? Running. I like long distance running, and have taken part in lots of half marathons, as well as two full marathons. I’m currently about to start training for my third marathon that I’ll be running in 2017.

Why did you decide to become a wedding photographer? Because I loved the thought that my hobby/passion could actually be my job too! Photographing couples in love, and meeting such amazing people every week makes me very happy. And if I can take a whole heap of cool images along the way… even better! How would you describe your style of wedding photography? Fun, different, creative, and colourful! What do you enjoy the most about being a wedding photographer? Seeing how happy couples are when they receive their wedding photos. Knowing that I’ve captured a collection of special moments that they’ll cherish forever is very fulfilling. What advice would you give to brides and grooms currently searching for their wedding photographer? Go with your gut feeling! There are so many photographers around nowadays that making the decision of who to choose is tough.

eddings are becoming more and more a case of ‘Your day, your way’ and brides and grooms are not feeling the need to conform to tradition. However, when it comes to planning your wedding, there are a lot of question marks for brides who aren’t sure which route to take. Here are just a few of the questions we’ve seen crop up;

6

How should I announce my engagement?

Traditionally announcing your upcoming nuptials in the local newspaper is a romantic old fashioned keepsake. More modern brides are choosing to spread the news almost instantly across social media. How should I word my invitations? Your invitations are the first taster your guests receive of what's to come and whether they're traditional or contemporary, it's easy to get carried away with the design and forget the vital details. Depending on your family situation, the invitations can either come the traditional way from the bride’s parents or more modern, directly from the bride and groom themselves. Is it ok to ask for money instead of gifts?

Traditionally the Father of the bride makes the first speech followed by the groom and best man. Speeches are best when short and sincere. Some brides opt for the speeches before the meal so the nerves are gone and the speakers can enjoy their meal but others choose to wait until afterwards as it’s the perfect ‘sit back and relax with a coffee’ for the guests after dinner whilst enjoying the speeches. It just depends on the people who are making the speeches really.

7 8

Most couples are set up in their own homes before tying the knot and simply don't require a set of saucepans or tea towels. Your guests will understand this and giving money as an alternative is the norm. Alternatively, you could set up a honeymoon account with a travel agent where your guests contribute towards this by using a unique code. Where do I start with my seating plan? Do I need a top table?

Who should make a speech? What order? When should speeches take place?

It's always good to strike a balance between mixing people up and seating family together for a good atmosphere. A traditional 'top table' is not always possible with modern families so don’t feel you have to do anything you don’t feel comfortable with.

Weddings and social media … should I have a wedding website/hash tag? So easily now weddings can be a social media extravaganza with personalised websites, pages and hash tags for guests to upload snaps throughout the day. It totally depends on your personal outlook on this – do what you feel is right and reflects your personalities. Wedding party attire. Should my groomsmen and groom be in the same suits? Dressing your official wedding party such as your groomsmen and parents in the same suits can create a sense of occasion and responsibility and is a good way of making family members feel included. Traditionally, the ushers wear the same as the father of the bride/groom whilst the groom and best man wear something slightly different but complimenting the others in the wedding party.

Should I invite children? Sometimes your guests can relax and enjoy themselves more without the responsibility of children however, there are loads of ways to include children and keep them entertained should you opt to involve them in your big day (plus they offer the cute factor in the wedding pictures!)

ee Garland has such a talent when it comes to his photography. Not only is he creative and original but he gets such a great rapport with his brides and grooms that the results are always amazing. And this super stylish wedding of Stephanie and Aaron is no exception – here Stephanie tells us all about it; “We married at Natural Retreats and fell in love the moment we arrived, the breathtaking views, luxury lodges and the fact that we were able to put our own stamp on our wedding, which was particularly important to us. The venue was relaxed, rustic and we had the freedom to create the wedding we wanted. We wanted our wedding to be a little different, and most of all have good food and be fun! We were lucky to have friends help us decorate the dining room the day before, cut out a world map outline for the table plan and create the most beautiful, digital geometric print stationery for us. We had a unicorn piñata and a disco ball in the dance room, a vintage photo booth and a pizza van in the evening. The bridal car was an old vintage beetle, with a soft top - which certainly allowed us to make an entrance! The bridesmaids travelled in a vintage VW campervan. We also had light up S&A letters, which I loved! I wore the Sassi Holford, Lindsay dress. I wanted a bold vintage lace dress with a beautiful back and a bit of a trail and this dress really ticked the boxes. It was important to me that the dress was relaxed, had movement and I would be able to dance all night! Aaron wore a Made to Measure suit, from Doherty Evans and Stott, a tailors in Manchester. The bridesmaids wore different dresses, with the majority being embellished. My little sister who is 6 fell in love with an ivory full skirted dress, with a pink sash... she didn't really want to consider any other dress as soon as she had tried that on and fell in love with 'big skirt'. Food and drink was of particular importance to us! The caterers we used for the wedding breakfast were very flexible and allowed us to create our perfect menu. The canapés were flowing during the drinks reception with mini sausage and mash, mini grilled cheese and truffle sandwiches, Manchester egg and bean quesadilla.

The wedding breakfast was a posh prawn cocktail starter, carve at your table roast beef with LOTS of Yorkshire puddings and the dessert was a trio of our favourite desserts; lemon posset, sticky toffee pudding and salted caramel brownies. The evening food was wood fired pizza. The caterers set up a pizza van and gazebo outside and created several gorgeous pizzas for 3 hours, allowing guests to refuel during the dancing! They also provided the BBQ the next day, down by the lodges. Our bar company did a Mr and Mrs cocktail for us - The Mr cocktail being a whiskey sour and the Mrs cocktail being an espresso martini. There were lots of sore heads the following morning! We had personalised Blackpool sticks of rock for our favours (Aaron is from Blackpool). We had the most amazing band, called The Wandering Hands, who entertained our guests during the drinks reception and over dinner. Everyone said how amazing and fun they were. We also had a piñata, filed with sweets and glitter. We had a vintage photo booth, which was really great printing black and white images, with some amazing props. Then, we had lawn games during the reception (giant jenga, connect four and croquet) and then human hungry hippos for the Sunday, which was hilarious! Remember it’s your day, and although you will feel the need to please everyone, make sure you do what is right for you! It’s a happy and fun occasion, so don't sweat the small stuff! Take time to appreciate all your hard work, step back and see the people you love all in one place having fun and celebrating with you!”

HAND PAINTED SHOES - Here at Anara we specialise in hand painted shoes, these shoes are totally unique and individually designed and will not be found anywhere else. Our Disney inspired shoes are very popular and can be painted in a beautiful subtle white on the ivory satin if you don't want a colourful finish. You can personalise them with names, date or sentiments etc.

At Anara Designs we specialise in bespoke designed pieces made especially for you such as jewellery, hand-painted or embellished shoes, gifts, accessories and many more. We can work from your ideas, to match an outfit, wedding dress, theme or colour scheme, making it personal and totally unique.

What is the cost for this bespoke service?

We believe that attention to detail is especially important. We hand make everything using only the highest quality materials in creating our designs.

The other accessories that we offer are also priced very competitively but still giving you that bespoke versatility.

What is your background and how did Anara Designs begin? When working as a photographer, I saw how the market was sadly lacking a place from where people could get high quality, bespoke pieces of jewellery, shoes and accessories at affordable prices. So when, for personal reasons, we had to stop taking bookings as wedding photographers, it gave a perfect opportunity to turn a love of this craft from a hobby into a career and thus Anara Designs emerged. What are your most popular requests from brides?

All our shoes are priced between £55 - £150. This depends on which shoe you choose and the extent of artwork or design that goes into it.

How far in advance of a wedding day should a bride approach you? We recommend that you come and see us as soon as possible so we can provide you with the best service. Anara isn't a shop it’s an experience, let Sarah use her design talents to give you a bespoke product idea to take away. Sarah will do sketches and costings to send you during the next week or so to make your visit relaxing knowing no final decision has to be made till you are ready. We can do orders in short notice but do ask for a minimum of a month.

Our most popular requests are our bespoke shoes, We are stockist of Rainbow club, Paradox Pink, The Perfect Bridal Company and we also have our own Designed shoe and boot, this gives you over 100 pairs of shoes to choose from and one of the largest collections in the country. HAND EMBELLISHED SHOES - We can design and embellish your shoes to match your wedding dress and jewellery, creating a pair of unique Wedding Shoes personalised especially for you. We use only the highest quality materials such as Swarovski, Crystals, Pearls, Lace and Beads.
