idden within the idyllic Nottinghamshire countryside, Swancar Farm was the perfect setting for this stunning styled shoot. With a wonderful team of talented suppliers, the shoot took place on a picturesque Summer’s day and the results were just beautiful. Styled by Save the Date Event Stylists, the shoot was inspired by greenery, beautiful blooms and luxe details with a dash of elegance. Amy Bailey Designs created botanical-style stationery for the tables, which looked stunning alongside neutral table decorations and metallic cutlery. The scrumptious cake was created by The Confetti Cakery, and it was adorned with handmade sugar succulents and foliage. Our bridal model rocked show-stopping gowns by Haarlem bridal, teamed with a beautiful bohemian flower crown and pastel pink peony bouquet put together by Tineke Floral Design. This fabulous florist also created the most incredible hanging chandelier flowers above the tables in the Oak Hall – so on-trend! Hair and make-up by James White Hair and Josephine Way MUA was kept understated, soft and romantic in keeping with the style of the shoot. Our groom model rocked a handsome suit by Reiss. Grace and Mitch of Grace Elizabeth Photography were on hand to capture this spectacular shoot on camera – so keep your eyes peeled for more on the Save the Date blog! A PERSONAL & MEANINGFUL WEDDING WELCOME TO THE WEDDING OF SARAH & TIM HAVE A NOSEY

hen it came to their wedding day, Sarah and Tim wanted to make it as personal and as meaningful as possible. They opted for a charming village hall wedding venue with lots of handmade decorations, eclectic details and delicious food. Here, Sarah tells us about their utterly romantic wedding day‌ “We wanted our wedding to really reflect us, for people to walk in and say "this is so you". So for us as a couple who just love the outdoors, countryside, twee styling and the simple pleasures in life we opted for a wedding venue where we could really put our stamp on it and make it our own. The wedding itself was at the beautiful Lambley Church, a small but very special church where we invited around 60 of our family members and closest friends to join us for the ceremony. The venue was a very unassuming little village hall in the beautiful Nottinghamshire village of Thurgarton. We fell in love with it at first sight and it suited us perfectly! We decorated our reception with hay bales, copious amounts of bunting and as many fairy lights as possible. Decorations were painstakingly handmade by ourselves with help from our friends and family. Our wedding style was very relaxed and a perfect reflection of us individually; I am animal and afternoon tea mad so I made sure both bases were well covered on the day whilst Tim is a really keen and very skilled cyclist. To incorporate this we sprayed old bike wheels and used them to display some of our favourite photos on as well as including a vintage bike prop. Tim is also a curry connoisseur so that was important to him and therefore our evening food was a dream for us both. We had a completely veggie afternoon tea for the wedding breakfast and then an array of scrumptious curries, dahl's and Indian inspired street food for the evening. Our cute vintage van mobile bar provided a talking point as well as a selection of cocktails and Ales. Tim made a fantastic DIY hanging ladder from silver birch that was gathered on several countryside walks including our engagement shoot (we were always on the lookout for free material), this was displayed above the top table with foliage and hanging jam jars with some of our beautiful country flowers.

19

Each of our Mum's also knitted flowers that were put on the pews in church for people to wear as a gift. The Alpacas were our surprise for all of our guests and we had been fit to burst wanting to tell people but it worked out a treat on the day, with some fantastic reactions from our friends and family as they walked out to meet our special guests, they added a really playful element to the day and were impeccably behaved!

The kids were entertained with lots of Easter themed crafts and an Easter bag for Church. Our Alpacas were the main source of entertainment though for kids and adults alike, everyone loved them! We also bought a vintage polaroid camera and lots of film. Tim had made a huge wooden frame which we hung envelopes with guest’s names on and they took their photo, placed it back in the envelope and we got a fantastic record of the day from other people.

My dress took a long, long while to find but my final visit was to Ally at Alexandra Anne Bridal on the Chatsworth Estate. Ally and her stunning shop stood out an absolute mile; she greeted me like an old friend and made me feel at ease from the very beginning. I felt that nothing was too much trouble and the experience was what dreams are made of - I loved every minute and finding my beautiful Charlie Brear two-piece made it extra special; the top and skirt were actually from different collections but I just loved them together. Tim was slightly more straightforward as generally he only gets excited about new cycling kit so he had a clearer idea of what he wanted and his suit was the first he tried on. He bought the same dusky pink tie for the best man and male family members on both sides but we didn't go for matching suits. I was determined that I wanted to get something that my four beautiful bridesmaids were comfortable and happy in and I ended up finding their dresses on ASOS and they looked gorgeous.

When it comes to advice for other brides and grooms, always have a day that is really meaningful to you both, make sure it reflects you as a couple and don't do things just because you feel you should. Ask friends and family to help out as there will be lots of skills and talent they can put to good use.”

atural, emotive and timeless, you can count on Ian Bursill Wedding Photography to capture your special day. An awardwinning documentary wedding photographer, Ian can effortlessly capture the emotive moments of your wedding, telling your love story. Ian recently photographed Claire and Daniel’s beautiful big day, so read on to find out about their gorgeous wedding at Prestwold Hall… Claire explains, “We focused on making each part of the wedding personal to us and memorable for our guests. We only had 100 guests as we wanted to keep it intimate. I always wanted a Spring wedding as it is my favourite time of the year, so that’s where it started. We married at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough as the venue and its grounds are truly stunning. We did visit other venues but we fell in love straightaway with Prestwold Hall – we both looked at each other and said 'this is the one'! I wanted lots of flowers by florist Michele Gledhill as the main styling. My styling started with our invitations - our wedding stationery was pastel floral watercolour with rose gold and a hint of German style, as Daniel is German. Overall, our colour scheme was pastel Spring colours with rose gold and glass details. Our wedding was floral, romantic and elegant with a touch of German. We decorated our venue with lots of flowers in classic tall, glass vases along our tables in every room and even outside. Our wedding favours were a rose gold key bottle openers which also featured on our wedding stationery. The kids had a little goody bag with disposable cameras in and a list of what photos to get. We also offered the ladies roll-up pumps for tired feet in the evening and we gave our guests pamper boxes in the toilets. Daniel and I exchanged gifts on the day – I bought Dan a watch and he bought me and Ruby, my daughter, a puzzle that we made together and it revealed a special message. I also got an engraved mirror. A massive personal touch was Dan giving Ruby a ring in the ceremony to show his love and commitment to her as well as to me. The ring is engraved with the date and a message. We also wrote our own vows for the ceremony. My shoes were Charlotte Mills, and they were my Something Old and Something New. They contained a lucky sixpence and had engraved writing on the bottom. Dan also had the same sixpence as his cufflinks. My wedding dress was by Mori Lee bought in Dressplace Nottingham and it was a fitted mermaid gown featuring lots of beading, an illusion back and layers of ruffle at the bottom. Dan wore a light blue tailor-

made suit by Reiss. The best man, ushers and page boy wore navy suits with braces while the bridesmaids wore blush pink Alfred Sung long dresses. Ruby had her ivory dress and bouquet made to look just like mine. For our wedding breakfast, we enjoyed pea and mint soup with sourdough croutons for starters, 20-hour ale braised blade of beef with celeriac and potato gratin for the main, followed by dark chocolate delice and honeycomb for dessert. Our evening buffet was a mixture of German food. We had Bellini for our drinks reception along with champagne and wine throughout the day. We had a band called The Indie Killers, they were great and got everyone dancing! We always said we wanted a really good indie band. We also had a harpist for our ceremony which was very romantic. Our advice would be try and find time together and talk about your decisions about your big day – it should be both what you want for your special day. Dan and I made all the decisions together, it really helps and takes the pressure off the bride. Also on the day spend as much time together as possible it really does go so quickly.” The fab suppliers involved: Photographer : Ian Bursill Wedding Photography | Venue : Prestwold Hall | Dress : Mori Lee at Dressplace Nottingham | Shoes : Charlotte Mills | Bridal : MUA | Ali Gunn : Make-Up | Bridal Hair : Alison Jenner Hair | Flower Girl Dress : Truly Bridal | Bridesmaid : Alfred Sung | Groom’s Suit : Reiss | Groomsen Suits: Slaters | Flowers: Michele Gledhill Florist | Stationery & Styling: Mad Philomena | Wedding Cake: Julia’s Kitchen | Dessert Table: Jo Newby | Band: Indie Killers | Harpist: Soraya Vermeulen

INTRODUCING

THE CONFETTI CAKERY

36

S AV E

THE

DAT E

The Confetti Cakery certainly knows a thing or two about wedding cakes, tasty treats and delicious desserts. From the latest wedding trends to cake table styling ideas, read on to find out more… How did you start The Confetti Cakery? One of my close friends was due to emigrate to Australia, and I asked her what kind of leaving present she wanted. She asked if instead of a present I could make her a cake for her leaving party. I hadn’t baked since school, but that didn’t deter me and I embarked on an iced three tiered lemon cake, covered in simple cut out sugar flowers. It was a steep learning curve but I loved it, and so started the cake obsession! Where do you get your wedding inspiration from? I find that nature, flowers and art always offer me great ideas for colour, shape and texture. I love a pattern whether it’s free style hand painting, structured geometrics or polka dots. Recently I’ve been inspired by textiles and interiors, and have found lots of creative ways to incorporate them in to cake decorating.

a piece of cake... What is your most popular style of wedding cake? The semi-naked wedding cakes seem to be the most asked for style at the moment, and I think their simplicity is what makes them so popular. They are so easy to dress up, whether it is with doughnuts, metallic drips, macarons or simply with fresh flowers.

How do you recommend that couples go about choosing their wedding cake, design and flavours? Meeting your wedding cake designer for a consultation is always the best place to start working on a design. Then together you can look at your inspirations, and think about how to create a design that fits in with all the other parts of your wedding. A simple place to start is to think about colour, shape and style. My clients often find deciding on flavours the hardest part; they end up wanting one of everything! My advice is to each pick a flavour and then perhaps pick another that is a guaranteed guest pleaser – you’ve got the best of both worlds then!

THE

How would you style a wedding dessert or cake table? When styling the cake table it’s really important to make sure that it fits in with the table decor, flowers, colour palette and overall styling. Often I will get in touch with a couple’s Wedding Stylist to make sure everything blends together. For example, it may be as simple as using a table runner that coordinates with the top table, and adding some fresh flowers and votives. What’s the most extravagant wedding cake you’ve ever created? I once made a super tall, elegant six tiered wedding cake and it was covered with hundreds of delicate sugar roses and hydrangea petals. The flowers alone took days to make, but it was a real show stopper and worth every moment! If you could design and make a wedding cake for anyone, who would it be and why? My dream client would be Katy Perry, she is so quirky, bright and fun. I imagine she would have something vivid and 100% non-traditional! I’m also a big fan of Elsie Larson, the founder of A Beautiful Mess. Her love of bold colours and textiles would serve as perfect inspiration for an amazing contemporary wedding cake design!

cake trends...

Finally, what are your predicted wedding cake trends for 2017 & 2018? Expect cake tiers to be super tall, with modern sharp edges and lots of clean simple lines, giving a stylish and minimalist look. The trend for different height tiers will continue, offering couples a really bespoke look. Bright colours will take the place of more subdued tones, with touches of metallic in the way of gold and silver leaf, and edible metallic paint. Hand-painting has been a key trend in wedding cakes for a while, but it will be presented in a more abstract way inspired by textiles and fashion. I think there are some key trends this year that will also carry on through to next year including marble, greenery and macramé, and I expect semi-naked drip cakes to still be very popular!

nown as Newark’s premier wedding venue, Kelham House is the perfect host for your special day. Boasting a beautiful countryside setting, picturesque woodlands and manicured gardens, this enchanting house can be all yours for the day. Newlyweds, Ashley and Natalie, got married at Kelham House on 5th May 2017, and their wedding day was just as magical as they had always imagined. Here, we talk to Ashley about their big day; “To anyone looking for a wedding venue - just get this placed booked, you absolutely won't regret it. During the preparations, Fran & Alicja have been brilliant with us; timely in responding to all questions, efficient in answers (make it very clear on what can and can't be done - a god send when trying to plan things), and superbly organised in making sure we've covered all bases. It genuinely made the preparations an enjoyable experience!! As far as the event goes, with Lucy (Food & Beverage manager) we had someone running the show who obviously takes A LOT of pride in what she does. She must have pulled in a 14+ hour shift, and right at the bitter end of the night, she's still there dealing with any requests me & the bride had - literally nothing feels like too much hassle. I'm a self-confessed detail freak, but knew I had nothing to worry about when I spotted her 20+ pages of notes for the day. For the rest of the staff, they're all a credit to the venue - give them a smile and basic manners, and they'll all move mountains for you, simple as that. Venue, food, drinks prices, staff, everything - it all far, far exceeded our already high expectations. Give yourselves a pat on the back guys, because you've delivered a truly exceptional experience from start to finish for me, Mrs Thurman, and our guests.” The highly experienced wedding planning team will offer you as much support as you need to pull off the perfect day, while the chef will create a delicious menu to suit your theme and requirements. It’s your chance to create some magical memories at Kelham House.

ou’ve found the perfect man, now it’s time to find the perfect dress… Here at Save the Date Magazine, we know that finding your dream wedding dress is one of the most exciting parts of planning your special day. It’s the moment you’ve always dreamed of, and we bet you can’t wait to find ‘The One’. Nestled in the heart of Sherwood Forest, you’ll find Iconic Bride, a boutique with a range of beautiful gowns for your big day. Let’s find out a little more about this wonderful bridal boutique in Nottinghamshire… What can brides expect from an Iconic Bride experience? When you visit us you can expect to have exclusive-use of our beautiful boutique with a dedicated style consultant on hand to wait on you and your bridal party, ensuring you all have a first class experience. We are a mother and daughter team that takes pride in offering a thoughtful and eclectic collection of the finest bridal gowns and accessories ensuring our brides are both standout and stylish. Which Bridal Designers do you currently stock at Iconic Bride? We stock Sophia Tolli, WattersWtoo, Catherine Parry, Nicola Anne and TwoBirds Bridesmaids. We are also excited to exclusively announce that from October onwards, we will be stocking Caroline Castigliano. Accessories are from Ivory and Co, Richard Designs and Benjamin Adams bridal shoes. Which is the most popular style of gown for 2017? We have definitely seen a shift towards A line styles. Cut-out back details are still incredibly in fashion and they look so stunning it is hardly surprising brides are coveting such looks. We secretly like a "Pippa bum" here at Iconic Bride and still love the fitted styles which accentuate the female figure. What are your top tips for brides when shopping for their dress? Enjoy it! Seems a simple thing but we've seen so many brides either nervous or unsure that they can be at risk of missing out on the most important thing of being a bride and that is to enjoy the experience! Limit the number of people you bring as it can be overwhelming when so many people have an opinion about what you should or shouldn't wear for your special day. We advise to keep to those you trust and have a maximum of 2-3 people at your appointment. Also be open to the idea that what you thought you wanted may not turn out to be your dream dress. Our last tip would be to go with your gut. Your wedding dress or "lady" as we affectionately call ours, will make herself known to you. There can be a big pressure on brides today to have

W W W.

THE

DAT E

the "moment" where everyone should be crying and overcome with emotion and brides can feel unsure and even cheated if they don’t have that response. We are here to reassure you that whilst some brides can have this reaction to finding their dress most don't and that's ok. Your lady will let you know in her own way she is "your one" as she will be the one that will stick in your mind and you can’t stop thinking about her no matter how many gowns you try. Do you have a favourite celebrity wedding, or a celebrity wedding dress that you admire? When coming up with our name Iconic Bride and our strapline of ‘creating a bride people will remember’ we took our inspiration from celebrity and royal weddings. For a beach wedding we absolutely loved Megan Fox's Armani Prive gown that she wore back in 2010 and it is still on style point today. However top marks to celebrity heiress Nicky Hilton on her custom made Maison Valentino gown with the illusion high neck and laser cut floral lace. Do you have any upcoming trunk shows for brides to visit? Of course! We love trunkshow weekends. They provide us with the ideal excuse to get out the bubbly and cupcakes, bring in lots of styles from a chosen design. Our next confirmed Trunk Show is for the showstopping collection from WattersWtoo on Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th August 2017. We are also holding a Sophia Tolli Trunk Show on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th September 2017. Plus, keep your eyes peeled for the October Launch of Caroline Castigliano. Tell us a little more about your upcoming video advert? We wanted to show that our mission is to provide brides with the ultimate luxurious bridal experience which focuses on quality, personalisation and style at its core. Being visible to our bride is very important to us and we hope that brides can feel reassured through our advert that approachability, honesty and integrity are of utmost importance. We are super excited about its launch (to be announced soon) and hope our brides like it.

hris and Kate said ‘We Do’ at Hargate Hall in Buxton, with a colourful and vibrant wedding theme bursting with kitsch details and bright decorations. Here, we chat to the bride and groom about the inspiration behind their big day… “We wanted our wedding day to be totally unique with a colourful fiesta of Mexican kitsch, full of handmade decorations and lots of personal touches to truly reflect our characters. It was important to us that our guests felt relaxed, had plenty to entertain them and had lots of crazy, wonderful backdrops for photos.

WANT TO SEE M OF TH IS AMA ORE ZING WEDD ING? Make su re y our ‘Rea ou have a nose y at l Weddin our web g site for m s’ page on ore wed ding eye can dy!

We were bowled over by the uniqueness of Hargate Hall and loved that it was a blank canvas so we could decorate it as we wanted to. It was a bonus to have all the apartments too where our guests were able to stay and party for the whole weekend. We were able to have the venue from Friday until Monday so we could spread our wedding over two days - so much fun! Mexican and Kitsch were our main wedding themes, with knitted cacti for the table centrepieces, a Mexican shrine table in the marquee and a vibrant colour scheme. I spent a year crafting all the decorations with the help of my friends and my Mum. We made huge paper chandeliers, painted lampshades and dream-catchers to hang from the trees. Mum made all the bunting in bold, patterned fabric, while I created a talking point of cuddly toys stuffed in jars. Our table names were collages of retro kids TV shows. We decided on ribbon wands instead of confetti which made for brilliant photos! I made handmade flowers from duck tape and had a bouquet made from artificial flowers and ribbon. Lots of our friends volunteered their talents for our wedding. One of my bridesmaids sang us back down the aisle with a beautiful rendition of A Thousand Years, another bridesmaid made the cake and two other friends set up a cocktail stand and did all the DJ-ing. We were also very lucky to have our friend Alex Ashman design our wedding invites. I loved the simplicity and elegance of my Anna Campbell Freja dress. The bridesmaids wore 60s style mini dresses from ASOS with sparkly wedges from Debenhams and fruit-themed straw handbags. The groomsmen wore simple white shirts with tweed waistcoats and blue trousers. My Mum knitted the buttonholes in different colours. We don't like formalwear particularly and wanted our bridesmaids and groomsmen to be comfortable and quirky with colourful touches!

We had canapés in the afternoon and decided on a hot buffet for the wedding breakfast. For dessert my Mum had made a selection of little cakes - carrot cakes, chocolate cupcakes, Bakewell tarts, lemon cakes and coconut macaroons. The wedding cake was 100% vegan and 100% delicious! We also had a free bar where the guests rotated to play the role of barman. On the day of the wedding we had the Quartertones playing a set which got people on the dance floor. We then had a playlist of Guess the 80s Movie and then our friends did consecutive DJ sets until the early hours! Count on your friends as much as you can! We loved having our friends contributing to our big day. It made it all the more special and created so many lovely memories.” The fab suppliers involved in Chris & Kate’s wedding: Venue | Hargate Hall www.hargate-hall.co.uk Photography | Lorna Lovecraft www.lornalovecraft.co.uk Bridal Boutique | Jean Jackson Couture www.jeanjacksoncouture.com Wedding Dress | Anna Campbell www.annacampbell.com.au Wedding Hair | Joe Petrillo www.joepetrillo.co.uk Bridesmaids | ASOS www.asos.com Wedding Band | The Quartertones www.entertainment-nation.co.uk

his stunning outdoor Tipi styled shoot involved a team of fabulously creative East Midland wedding professionals. Set within beautiful natural surroundings, wild flower woodlands and dreamy lakes at Derbyshire’s beautiful Beehive Farm, all in the heart of The National Forest. Heavenly! The shoot encompasses a love of colourful, outdoor weddings, festivals and a sense of playfulness, all captured through the lens of the super talented Kim, of ‘The Gribbons’ duo. Nadia Di Tullio came up with the concept for the shoot, inspired by both the Bloomsbury Garden Fabric design by the infamous Timorous Beasties and L'Occitane's Garden en Provence collection. The shoot tells the wedding story right through from preparation, first look and humanist ceremony to sipping Prosecco together, enjoying

tasty crêpes and picnic food al-fresco style, as well as that all important first dance under the glittering disco ball. The bride wore art-deco inspired separates by True Bride, teamed with a casual denim shirt, a colourful, blooming bouquet and festival face glitter for a whimsical, boho vibe. Her hair was styled with loose tousled waves and a large boho braid. The groom wore a casual crushed white linen shirt and jean combo with a cute, colourful buttonhole and both the bride and groom wore a collection of bohemian, festival style jewellery and accessories. The Tipis were adorned with a colourful explosion of balloons, bunting, fairy lights and silky ribbons galore, along with a giant floral chandelier and foliage with pops of bright florals on a hanging plank feature.

The tablescape centred around an abundance of glass bottles filled with an array of ‘just picked from the garden’ flowers. Delicate watercolour floral place mats featuring place names and the wedding breakfast menu, framed the vibrant and eclectic collection of crockery, cutlery and glassware. Two statement tiered cakes also echoed the watercolour, floral and colourful vibes found under the canvases. The result was a fun, colourful and inspiring outdoor Tipi Wedding shoot.
