T

aking inspiration from the fantasy novel, The Chronicles of Narnia, this edition’s styled photo shoot is simply magical.

With stunning images by the talented Dottie Photography, our team of stylists including the incredibly creative Michele Gledhill set about transforming the Guardroom within the incredible Belvoir Castle into a Narnia inspired wonderland. Our models were supplied by Blake Models and did a fabulous job of creating a mystical, magical mood for the shots and their outfits were simply amazing with the dress supplied by Ian Stuart and tweed menswear by Tweedmans.

Complete with stag heads, flaming candelabras, frost capped flowers, fur throws and lanterns, the end result was breathtaking and in perfect synergy with the feel of the venue. With romantic candlelight and roaring log fires, luxurious fabrics and furs, there is something truly beautiful about Belvoir Castle during the winter months and it makes the perfect choice for your wedding.Â

io & Peter, owners of Dennisson Classic Cars are two of the most genuinely lovely people we at Save the Date Magazine have had the pleasure of meeting. Not only are they passionate about what they do, their customer service is second to none and their wedding cars simply gleam. When assessing various wedding suppliers and bringing them to you, we always feel that the proof is in the pudding. No matter how impressive a supplier’s website or sales spiel is, it’s the feedback from their paying customers which really counts. And Dennisson Classic Save The Date | Issue Seventeen

In 2011, they were announced the ‘National Winner’ at the Wedding Industry Awards and have been shortlisted for this prestigious award for a second year running for 2013 too. Gary & Sarah – Saturday 9th June 2012 “We were delighted with the service you gave us and couldn’t recommend you more highly. Thanks again”

Eleanor & Ian - Saturday 24th March 2012 “Just wanted to say a massive thank you for providing us with ‘Charles’ as our wedding car, on our big day back in March. We were made to feel very special on our drive between the church and Trent Bridge. We felt like royalty for a moment with all the football fans waving at us! I have attached some photos for you, of us with Charles. Our absolute favourite of the whole day, is us sat inside the car.” www.mirrorimaging.co.uk

Alistair & Laura – Friday 8th June 2012 “Many, many thanks for making our wedding so special. Your kindness and attention to detail made our wedding day perfect! Your cars are absolutely stunning and it was so special to arrive at Chatsworth in such style”

Donna & Matt – 6th October 2012

“Dear Jo, Thank you so much for the part you played in the day. Right from the off-set, you have been a joy to work with, not only thoroughly professional but a lovely, lovely person. To be honest, initially Matt and I had not placed much importance on the transport to and from the church but we are SO glad we changed our minds and decided to use yourselves, as it turned out to be one of the highlights of our day. Being driven around with Matt after our service, sharing our first hour together as a married couple away from all our guests was really special. We really treasured having this time together. And what a beautiful car, it looks truly fabulous in the photos. Well, the very best of luck in the competition, we really hope you win, you deserve to! I wish we could think of another reason to use you again but we don’t plan on getting married again anytime soon! Maybe for our first anniversary!" It’s A Nice Day For A White Wedding

with Gemma Morgan at The Wedding of my Dreams

For a timeless wedding, you can't go wrong with classic white. Keeping everything white, clean and crisp will create a sophisticated, elegant and peaceful atmosphere at your wedding. Here's Gemma from 'The Wedding of my Dreams' with her top tips to create a whimsical white wedding:

Save The Date | Issue Seventeen

25

Within the venue, keep to white linen on the tables, white bunting from the ceiling and white florals. A sprinkling of white flakes over the table cloth with a mix of white votives and candle sticks will create a romantic glow throughout the room.

Babb Photo

At The Wedding of my Dreams we have a range of cake toppers to jazz up plain cakes, 'It's A Nice Day For A White Wedding' or 'Mr & Mrs' would be perfect for this look.Or, a dessert table all in white would look oh so elegant, a beautiful white tiered cake surrounded by cupcakes, white macaroons and white bon bons and cotton in footed sweet jars.

There has been a growing trend towards white weddings over the past year with couples choosing an off white or neutral colour pallet for their bridal party.

When thinking about white décor at your reception, don’t forget the outside spaces. Simply hanging lengths of white ribbon from trees can make a beautiful entrance and backdrop for photos.

You don’t have to stick to pure white, your colour pallet can include nude, off white and soft peach tones. Almost all venues will work for a sophisticated white wedding, a country manor house or stately home would be enhanced by pure white décor or a more rustic style venue with wooden beams would make a lovely contrast with the white details.

For favours, perhaps a white lovebird on each guests place setting, a scrabble heart on favour boxes or a sprig of gypsophilia on guests napkins.

Keeping to all white florals is always a stunning look even if you choose to add colour in other areas. You could keep to all one flower throughout the day or mix the textures of different blooms whilst keeping the colour pallet neutral. There are a wide choice of beautiful blooms available in white‌ peonies, hydrangeas, roses, gypsophilia, astilbe, ranunculus or even cotton.

Sara and Rocky Photography

Personalise your details by creating large signs around the venue, you could have white cut outs of your initials, welcome signs or LOVE dotted around the venue.

Group a range of white photo frames together for a DIY table plan. Follow this through by displaying your table names in white photo frames on the tables.

the wedding tree company Q&A

Tell us about The Wedding Tree Company and what your service offers to brides and grooms on their wedding day: The Wedding Tree Company offers brides and grooms bespoke and totally personalised wooden wedding products, props, venue accessories and keep sakes. Venue accessories and props include items such as menu boards, directional sign posts and signs for photographs, rustic wishing wells for guests to leave cards and gifts and oak frames to surround table plans. Smaller items include uniquely crafted wedding favours such as willow dragon flies, engraved coasters and personalised wooden key rings or name tags. Our personal favourite and very popular with the public, is the ‘Oak Wedding Guest Book Plank’ a quirky alternative to the traditional paper guest books which tend to live in a box after the wedding day and gather dust on a shelf. The Guest planks are personalised with the couples own initials, date, venue, and any other unique drawings or details they choose and are then sent out ready for guests to write well wishes on. Supplied fixings then enable the plank to be hung in the home, on display as an everlasting reminder of the special day. What do you feel your products bring to a wedding? Personalisation, quirkiness, creativity and an insight into the couple who are tying the knot. Due to the personal nature of The Wedding Tree Companies products, couples have the opportunity to create something that is totally personal to them. With both our joinery skills and artistic flare all we need is the ideas given by the couple to make their items unique Save The Date | Issue Seventeen

31 and totally bespoke to them, giving their guests a talking point and making it a day to remember. Why did you decide to start The Wedding Tree Company? Richard has been successfully running his own joinery business for the last 7 years, carrying out bespoke furniture commissions and domestic joinery. On the lead up to our own wedding, this August, I kept Richard busy making wooden props to personalise our own special day, as I was having very little luck sourcing the items I had conjured up in my head. This is when the light bulb went on in Richard’s head, ‘this is a business’ he chirped down the phone to me. And so it began, after a relaxing honeymoon it was time to hit the ground running, we were now branching out in the world of weddings and The Wedding Tree Company was born.

What are your plans for The Wedding Tree Company? As the first couple of months have been busy testing the waters at local wedding fayres, feedback from the public has been more than welcoming. In 2013 we plan to go nationwide as we begin a string of magazine editorials and adverts, more wedding fayres and a large stand exhibiting at the National Wedding Show at the NEC in March. Can you let us know what costs are involved? All of The Wedding Tree Company products are 100% bespoke. Our two most popular products at the moment are the Wedding Guest Book Planks retailing at £220 inc P&P and the wedding sign post props starting at £55 up to £75. The best thing to do is get in touch and we’d be more than happy to send you our price list. A Winners Story! Jess Petrie Photography & Jenn Edwards Bridal MUA teamed up and hosted a competition with Save the Date Magazine in March 2012. The prize was for 3 winning couples to have a set of engagement/pre-wedding photographs taken, with their hair & make-up done in a really relaxed and fun way in a natural setting. Rosie & Chris were one of the lucky couples to win: Rosie says “Jess contacted us to congratulate us both in winning; we couldn’t believe we had actually won! We both really enjoyed the shoot and felt it was a great practice run for the big day. Jess made us both feel at ease and worked with our personalities, which definitely came across in the images. Jenn was fantastic - my hair and make-up looked great, but I still felt like 'me' which made me feel a lot more comfortable and confident in front of the camera! I am so pleased with the final pictures, I really feel like Jess captured our personalities and interpreted the setting in such a unique way - I can't wait to share the images with our friends and family! We're looking forward to Jess capturing our wedding day!'

A vintage

country

wedding -at the Priesthouse

"

T

im and I got married on 13th October 2012 at The Priest House, Castle Donnington. As Christians, we wanted to get married at my church, Charnwood Road Baptist Church, and wanted a reception venue near to it. We fell in love when we discovered the Priest House; it was so picturesque, could fit all our guests in and had somewhere for them to stay, not to mention they offered a great winter package which meant we could afford to invite all the guests we wanted and the menu looked great!

T

he theme was vintage country and we used indigo and cream with accents of pink and gunmetal to give it a modern edge. We carried the colours through from the indigo bridesmaids’ dress, to the stationery, which I made myself, and to the stunning flowers which my mum and some of her friends did. We named all our tables after different cakes as I love baking and Tim loves eating them! For the wedding favours, the guests were served the same cake as their table name with their coffee. In the evening we had lanterns lit in the garden so our guests would still feel included in the party even when using the garden. For our evening guests, we had a sweetie bar and we scoured everywhere for large sweetie jars, ordered way too many sweets (we are still eating them two months later) and paper bags for the guests to have their own pick and mix.

O

ne of the biggest hits at our wedding was the first dance - YMCA. In the build up to the wedding we were offered dance lessons but our ideas of gracing Strictly were quickly shattered when we found out we couldn’t dance. It was looking like we would have to invoke the default first dance plan of getting our guests to form a circle while we stood in the middle gently swaying, that was until unlikely inspiration came whilst we danced to YMCA by The Village People at a friend’s wedding. We roped in some of the ushers, bought some hats and moustaches and practiced, although never all together. It definitely wasn’t perfect, but it was fun, got people in the mood for a dance and when you have the mother of the bride standing on a chair to watch it, it has to be a winner.” Save SaveThe TheDate Date| |Issue IssueSeventeen Fifteen

Top Tips

Top tips for winter wedding photography TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE.

Find space in your schedule earlier rather than later for your couple/any group shots.

IT’S NIPPY OUT.

Older relatives and younger kids are more likely to look happy if you make sure any photos they’re needed in are ticked off first. Is it possible to combine any of your groups shots?

BOOTS WERE MADE FOR WALKING.

Winter landscapes are often stunning. However, they’re unkind to wedding shoes. Bring boots (or be carried).

DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK.

You might be planning your wedding during spring and summertime, but remember come winter, a lot of your day will be dark. Embrace this, and build your inspiration board accordingly.

LET THERE BE LIGHT.

Recce your venue with your photographer to get their opinion on how the spaces available are likely to photograph once the sun has set.

Don’t let the sun go down on me.... Here, Save the Date Magazine contributor, Lee Garland talks about the contradicting seasons and the effect a winter versus summer wedding can have on your photography results: “The question I'm most commonly asked is "what if it rains?". Unfortunately, there's not a great deal you can do about that, at any time of year. Look on the positive side; brolly shots are cute, big trees give a surprising amount of shelter and stately homes, churches and hotels often have generous doorways that mean even if your photographer is out getting wet, you needn't be. What you do have control over is how much daylight you are going to have. On the longest day in June next year, the sun goes down at 9:21pm. On the shortest, in December, it will set at 3:53pm. A winter and a summer wedding are two very different things. What you lose in terms Save The Date | Issue Seventeen

of long, balmy evenings with slow burning sunsets out on the lawns in summer, you make up for with roaring fires, a candlelit dining room, the smell of roasting chestnuts and Christmas trees in winter. Winter wedding photographs are the dramatic, moodier (in a good way), intimate cousins to the light, bright, high-key summer shots. There is less light to work with, less luxury of time and less margin for error. More emphasis on fast lenses and more challenges for your photographer, it is as crucial as ever that you have full confidence in their abilities. Don't worry about the things you can't control. If it rains, we'll revert to the wet weather plan. What you can do is make sure your schedule is set up with one eye on the sunset time, so that you don't have all of your photographs taken after dark. To help, I've put together some tips to help you get the most out of your photography on your winter wedding day.” visit: weddings.leegarland.co.uk

Sarah Matt’s

Big Day With Rachael Connerton

Save The Date | Issue Seventeen

51

Following their gorgeous pre-wedding shoot which we featured in issue 14, we were so excited when Rachael Connerton got in touch with Sarah and Matt’s wedding pictures. We were totally blown away and couldn’t wait to share with you. So, here’s the lovely Rachael Connerton to tell you about Sarah and Matt’s big day:

"A

fter a pre-wedding shoot combining a gorgeous old book shop with styled theming from the incredibly talented Michele Gledhill, we knew that Sarah and Matt’s big day was going to be something just a little bit special. Michele and I met with Sarah to discuss ideas at an early stage - this was one incredibly creative bride and her ideas and inspiration were right up my street.

The frivolity definitely continued with Sarah on their journey to church – the pale green campervan conjured up a perfect ‘school trip’ feel and there was lots of giggling when they all arrived which even the bit of drizzle couldn’t dampen. The ceremony, completely heartfelt, also had the same lovely relaxed, happy feel to it with lots of laughter from guests and bride and groom.

I entered Kilworth House on the morning of the wedding to be greeted by an absolutely exquisite dress hanging on the wardrobe (courtesy of ‘The Little White Dress’) and a serenely beautiful bride having the finishing touches applied. It was a picture of perfect wedding morning preparation.

As soon as we all reached Kilworth House, the happy party atmosphere really kicked in. We were over the moon to be able to spend a few minutes outside with Sarah and Matt, the fabulous campervan and THAT dress. What an absolute dream to shoot. Sarah and I both got very excited about seeing how Michele Gledhill had worked her magic in the Orangery and we were certainly not disappointed! Again, I couldn’t wait to start shooting while Ian was busy catching some lovely moments of guests enjoying themselves over a glass or two of bubbly.

Back at home, Ian had met with ‘the boys’ and had an absolute whale of a time capturing Matt opening Sarah’s present (the brilliant idea of a different ‘date night’ for each month of the year!)

The attention to detail with the styling and beautiful ideas were stunning and I had a complete field day with my camera! To top off what was already an incredible day, Ian and I had so much fun downstairs in the Cellar Bar for the evening reception. After a beautiful first dance, everyone immediately piled onto the dancefloor and the band then did a brilliant job of keeping them there! We had so much fun with Sarah and Matt and there was more than a fair share of laughter all day – not only were they the perfect couple to work with, we now view them as good friends too!"

getting to know..

Save the Date meet Nadia from Nadia Di Tullio Flowers: “I have always loved flowers, right from an early age when my parents’ business was located next to a florist shop. After years working in a non - creative industry I have finally returned to my early creative roots and retrained as a florist at Broomfield Hall. In the last 2 years, I have worked on many weddings across Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Yorkshire and have learnt a lot. One of the most interesting leaning curves has been moving away from the standard 'model' of floristry and developing a style that suits the modern bride and groom to be! Couples tend to be more eclectic and more knowledgeable than maybe they were 5 years ago, and with the development of sites such as Pinterest and Facebook, where people can collect and share images they love in an instant, it gives us in the wedding industry a huge spectrum of styles, flowers, props and materials to inspire us and work with. My style is mostly informal and my personal passion for roses is really quite apparent in most of my designs! I love what are

mostly thought of as being 'cottage garden flowers' and I like to design with gathered and foraged materials too! I do like to try and incorporate handmade items into my designs too to give a full unique look. As I don't operate from a shop (I have a little workshop tucked away in Ashbourne) my consultations are very flexible and relaxed. I often meet couples for coffee on the weekend and spend a good chunk of time thumbing through their notes and mood boards and getting a feel for their vision this is a really good time to know all about the people I'm going to be working with over the coming months, preparing for the wedding. I’m really looking forward to 2013 - I have 30 brides booked in already and lots of exciting projects waiting to come into fruition, plus my first contribution to the prestigious Wedding Flowers Magazine will be published in February, which is really exciting plus of course lots of Save The Date wedding events to look forward to!”

“Whyte Weddings and Events was established in 2010, by me, Emily Whyte, after helping friends and family create their perfect wedding Working with friends and family on their weddings made me realise that the modern bride and groom want high quality products with unique fantastic design at a fair price. From those weddings, things spiralled for Whyte Weddings & Events (so much that we were turning down orders) so I took the plunge last year and gave up employment to concentrate on Whyte Weddings & Events and haven’t looked back since!! Every couple is different so I offer individual services for each individual customer; I think your wedding is so personal so the service needs to be too! I often visit couples at their homes to design their stationery, or to discuss how to make existing designs more personal to them. I am currently working on a Formula 1 ticket style design on a lanyard for a customer and have just finished a 1950’s tattoo inspired vintage pocket fold range. I love it when customers set me the challenge of designing new and unique stationery for their wedding, especially quirky ranges like the village fete ticket style invitation which has become our best seller! We have great quirky ranges as well as beautiful contemporary wedding stationery which work in a huge range of colours. We also specialise in high end event and venue dressing and styling, offering advice on design and layout to couples. We hire perfectly pressed chair covers and create beautiful centrepieces; working with a local florist we can now create fresh floral centrepieces and offer full floral packages. All venue dressing can be matched to all your ‘on the day items’ - table plan, name cards, favours, post boxes, menus and more.”

Getting the Party Started! Richie Muir is a big favourite of Save the Date Magazine. If you've attended any of our wedding event with a difference events, chances are you will have seen him, guitar in hand, belting out a tune and getting everyone tapping their feet. From walking down the aisle accompanied by a live acoustic guitar or piano and then during the champagne reception or wedding breakfast and then onto the evening and partying away into the night to the Richie Muir Band and DJ set, the options with Richie are simply endless. Having played professionally for over 15 years, Richie works tirelessly at every wedding to give the bride and groom a perfect soundtrack to their day. The memory of themselves, family and friends in a big circle dancing at the end of the evening is something that lasts forever.

"The finest acoustic artist this fair city has to offer."

I asked Richie for a bit more information on the service he provides: "The music I perform is a take on classics and contemporary music in in a live lounge type of way. This can be a solo acoustic performance (acoustic guitar and vocal) or full band performance (acoustic guitar, bass guitar, drums, 3 vocals) depending on the budget. We work very hard on getting the set list and volume just perfect to have a great evening and keep the dance floor full, which is ultimately the main goal. Above all I can guarantee the finest upbeat and happy live music for your wedding and my constant desire to give the bride and groom everything they want musically for their big day.If a couple is interested in booking myself they should visit my website at www.richiemuir.com.
