‘Under 16s” are the society, sport and ‑ of course ‑ golf of tomorrow. As president of the Italian Golf Federation and long time university lecturer I wish to say, without being paternalistic, that they are in charge of the future of all of us. They are our children and grandchildren. That is why I have two wishes for this international male championship: I wish you all the best both on the course and in your life out of the course. Golf is a traditional pedagogic sport: it implies self control and, at the same time, the knowledge and respect of rules, as well as fair play towards both opponents and the environment. That is why golf needs to become more and more popular in our country in order to give our contribution in making fairness, sportsmanship and human society grow. Before the degeneration of other sports fed by violence and corruption, golf can be both an antidote and a set off. The fact that after having finished their professional career many football players start practicing our sport in full contact with nature cannot be just a mere coincidence. Also the 2012 edition of the international “under 16” Championship, held in the wonderful Golf Club of Biella, will put against each other the young and promising hopes of many countries. This will be the opportunity for many players to challenge others players of the same age coming from different golf schools and to grow up together both as athletes and as people. In other words, a sport and life experience to prepare you all for the great challenges of your adult life. I wish to thank the president of the Club, together with its Members and staff for hosting this event, aware of the fact that Biella’s course is becoming every year a great international “showcase” of new talents. “Under 16s”, and in general all young people, boys and girls, represent our future, and of course ‑ the future perspectives of our sport.

The Golf Club President’s Welcome
Dear Golfers, Companions, International and National Golf Association members, Authorities, Ladies and Gentlemen. On behalf of all the Biella Golf Club members, I would like to give you all my warmest welcome on the occasion of the 6th Italian International Individual Championship ‑ Under 16. We all feel fully committed to the success of this competition, and so once again we have the immense pleasure of hosting the Championship and all of you at our Club. Biella, overthe years, has become known worldwide for its wool textile industries, and not only, it is also the location of one of the more discreet and renowned golf courses in Italy, which according to a qualified committee, rated as the best. The architectural design of the course blends with the beauty of the landscape and terrain to form the most spectacular scenery that was just made for golf. The value of the shots and the balance of the design give the course that special added flavour, which I am sure will no doubt be appreciated by the players during this week. Our staff have prepared the course, Club house and facilities in the best possible way. The rules and regulations are the same as those of the previous successful Championships: after the ist and 2nd round a cut will be made and two additional rounds will take place on the 3rd day of the competition. To all foreign guests, we sincerely hope that you will have a pleasant and enjoyable stay in our country. To all the golfers, our best wishes to you all that you may experience together a great and memorable competition week. My sincere thanks to you all for being here with us, and I truly hope that this event will be the springboard to success for new and future champions.
