Social/Mentorship Event Recap: Career Panel By Stephanie Lee, PharmD Candidate 2022, Social Affairs Co-Chair

On 4/15/2021 SBLBSHP hosted a Career Panel featuring SBLBSHP members from a variety of practice settings. Twelve students from various pharmacy schools attended this event. During this event, students had the opportunity to have one on one interaction with each pharmacist, ask specific questions regarding the pharmacist’s career path, and receive focused advice on pursuing that specific path. Dr. Lauren Alfano shared her perspective on inpatient pharmacy working as a clinical pharmacist in a cardiac step-down unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Tim Chou shared his managerial perspective and discussed his journey in becoming the outpatient pharmacy manager at the Coastline pharmacy at Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center. Dr. Pin Xiang offered strategies on selecting between fellowship and residency and provided advice on pursuing a career with a focus in research. Lastly, Dr. Michelle Ding provided insights on both psychiatric pharmacy and her new journey as a medical science liaison. This event was well received and the students were able to further understand the various pharmacist career pathways.
