42011 Gift Guide

Best family we’ve seen this year. Easy set-up, no little parts, range of questions that anyone with a TV will understand. Not at all cut-throat—important when playing with competitive siblings. The best thing? Constant play; you don’t have to wait for your turn - great for the little ones with no patience. Finally, a kids game that lasts more than one day! We enjoyed seeing our favorite characters come to life and work together. The challenges that aren’t overly easy or frustrating. Low level of violence. The best thing? Multiplayer function allows up to 4 members of family to play at one time! We LOVE Zoobies®! You probably haven’t heard of them.... but every parent should! All the ingredients for a perfect nap all in one sweet and soft toy. Curious George™ and Cordury™ are additions to the collection. The quality impressed us the most, AND the entire Zoobies® is machine washable. The best thing? Convenient allin-one design makes them perfect for sleep overs, road trips, or nap-time at day-care.

Excellent idea... MyWrap is not just a great gift for kids — it turns wrapping paper into works of art. Too cute to throw away. Quality materials and great themes and graphics sparked our little artists’ creativity. Grandparents will love getting gifts wrapped in special paper crafted just for them. The message component makes each creation unique and personal. The best thing? MyWrap kits got kids invested in the gift giving process and kept them entertained for hours.

A + Gifts for Teachers A great gift for your child’s teacher doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Teachers agree, the most important thing is the thoughtfulness and care behind the gift, which shows the teacher that you appreciate everything they do. Teachers do one of the most important jobs around, yet they generally don’t receive a lot of prestige. A little recognition for their efforts is always appreciated. Many retired teachers we know have kept the gifts they’ve received over the years and proudly display them as evidence of the many lives they’ve touched. To be sure, these collections are full of Christmas tree ornaments, bath sets, gift baskets, coffee mugs, and a host of apple themed knick-knacks. The fact that you probably don’t know much about your child’s teacher limits the type of gift you can give. Although there is nothing wrong with any of the classic choices, it doesn’t take a lot of creativity to think a little outside of the apple shaped box.

Books—Most teachers love to read. I Remember My Teacher by David Shribman is a good choice. Photo Gifts—Print a photo of the class on a coffee cup or a mouse pad. Craft Kits and Supplies—Teachers of younger grades do lots of craft projects and often re-stock their supplies out of their own money. Gourmet Cookie Tray—Teachers like to share. A nice cookie tray for the teacher’s lounge will brighten the day of a whole team of educators. Gift Certificates—Treat the teach’ a night on the town. A fancy dinner at a local restaurant and tickets to a show can provide a much needed treat. A Day at the Spa—A trip to the spa is a luxury that few teachers can afford on their own. What teacher doesn’t need the gift of relaxation? Home made gifts—Student and parent made gifts top the list of teacher’s favorites. The time and effort you put in will guarantee your message of appreciation is received.

Light Up The Night...

by sherrii brentari

Hassel-Free Ourdoor Lighting by Chirstmas Decor It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Soon, the streets will be lined with bright twinkling lights and neighborhoods will be magically transformed into winter wonderlands. Busy schedules become even busier as the holiday tasks of shopping, baking, cooking, cleaning, and decorating creep in to steal what little free time we have. Hanging the outdoor lights is a huge task that demands not only a good deal of patience, and a giant chunk of time; but often nerves of steel as well. It’s dangerous, and unless you have a love of heights it can be down right scary! For many, the dream of having a perfectly decorated home equipped with full-roof lighting and perfectly hung twinklers seems is just that. . . a dream. “Often people don’t have the time, equipment, or skills needed to complete such a large project,” says Shawn Ferrie, CEO of Christmas Decor by Fresh Cut. “But mostly, the issue of safety is the biggest problem. That’s the biggest reason people call us. It just makes sense. Most of our technicians have been with us for over ten years and they are all expertly trained. As far as safety is concerned, it’s just not worth the risk” Christmas Decor is the nation’s largest professional holiday decorating firm and they are equipped to handle your entire outdoor decorating project including professional design, custom installation, scheduled and pro-active maintenance, and removal. As an added bonus all products are included in the service so you don’t have to worry

34

about replacing lights, decorations, or storage. “We provide everything you need to enjoy a hassel free holiday display,” says Shawn. “People want to be able to enjoy the holidays and spend time with their families without having to worry about the outside of there house.” The whole effect of outdoor lighting can be totally ruined by just a few feet of inactive lights. In addition to scheduled maintenance, Christmas Decor has 3 crews of “Elves” who routinely inspect for just such a problem. If one of the “Elves” notice a bulb is out or anything is out of place they either fix it on the spot or arrange to have it repaired within 24 hours. Christmas Decor by Fresh Cut has been professionally decorating homes in South Jersey for the past 14 years. They provide free, no-obligation estimates with an all inclusive price for installation, maintenance, removal and storage. They use stateof-the-art hardware and non-invasive fasteners that protect your home or business and display lights with straight perfection. “The lights we use are specifically manufactured for Chrismas Decor,” explains Shawn. “The environmently-friendly, energy-efficient LED (light emitting diode) lights are more true to color.” For a free estimate and to reserve a holiday lighting installation, call Christmas Decor by Fresh Cut at 609-653-2197 or visit www.freshcutlawncare.com for more information.

Fitting in fitness

by sherrii brentari

There is no question, family life is hectic. Soccer practice, dance lessons, doctors appointments, grocery shopping and a million other parental jobs often make exercise seem like a luxury. Everyone knows the benefits of exercise, but not everyone knows how to squeeze it into an already jammed schedule. We reached out to a two Jersey Shore moms who are committed to fitting in fitness, and we found they had one thing in common. Can you guess what it is? “I like to have fun,” says Nance Piazza, a Richland resident and mother of 3 boys. “I always tell everybody ‘Get out there and live.’” Nance stresses that she doesn’t need a fancy gym membership or special “work-out” clothes; when she finds a little time between commitments she throws on her sneakers and takes the dog for a quick walk. Sometimes she just turns on some music and gets moving. “I don’t even use

videos,” says Nance. “You need to be in a room with a TV and you have to work out for the specified time. With no video, a person can go to any free room in the house. You just need music and 15 minutes.” “I have always loved sports. Having three boys has been a blast,” says Nance. “I don’t sit home. I’m right out there with them. We go roller skating, play street hockey, or just run around in the yard.” Doing active things as a family is the perfect opportunity to get in a work out, enjoy the company of your kids, and have some fun. Lisa McGowen, a mother of 3, recently relocated to the Jersey Shore. “When I first moved here, I felt a little lost,” said Lisa. “I got caught up setting up the house and helping the kids get adjusted. Before I knew it, 6 months had passed and I still hadn’t joined a local gym.”
