publisher’s note Spring conjures up thoughts of new beginnings. New life, new ambitions, new hope, new dreams. I’ve had a long relationship with Jersey Shore Family. I started on the other side of the table myself as an advertiser, then as a writer, an editor and now proudly as a publisher. I have big shoes to fill-and a tough act to follow. Pam Joseph has laid alot of track crisscrossing South Jersey to bring this fun and informative guide to our Jersey Shore families. And now a new chapter begins for both of us.We wish her the very Best on her journey! My personal background in Marketing spans several decades. In recent years I was also an active member on the Board with the Jersey Shore Children’s Museum, providing me with a glimpse into the trends of family dynamics in 2019. I too had children-active in sports, scouts, dance, theatre and a host of other activities as I worked a full time career and managed a Girl Scout Troop. While all of those activities were instrumental in their development, no childhood memories are as precious as the events, shows and bus trips that we took together as a family-quite often with their grandmothers. To have the company of your kids on a new adventure is a gift of time that you will all cherish long after these magical years. In our ‘New & Improved’ Jersey Shore Family you’ll find the following newly added features: POST IT CALENDAR: Events, shows and bustrips

PARENTING 101: Objective guidance on parental challenges

BUCKET LIST: ATTRACTIONS & ADVENTURES Family entertainment in our backyard

BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT: Your opportunity to make their Day EXTRA Special!

DESTINATION DAYCATION: Editor’s pick for best choices in family fun!

KIDS PLACE: Puzzles-coloring pages-crafts & treat ideas

IN THE SPOTLIGHT Featuring an adult Making a Difference in a Kid’s World

JSF FACEBOOK 2.0: More contests, sweepstakes, give-aways & posts than ever before!

WE extend a warm welcome to all of our new advertisers and a special welcome back to our old favorites! Your support is an investment in the residents and visitors of our Jersey Shore communities. Our Spring Fairy Spring couldn’t come soon enough for our Cover Kid! And we couldn’t be happier with the results of her photo shoot with Renee Lynn Photography! At nine years old, this talented young lady has already had her share of gymnastics medals including her most recent position of First Place titleholder! However, although she has been a winner in sports, our ‘Spring Fairy’ excels in more than just gymnastics. She also has a flair for the dramatic, opening up opportunities to sing solo for the public. She has even portrayed Disney’s Princess Sophia in several events for Little Angels Princess Events, where she had been their most dedicated fan! Our Spring Fairy happily serves as a our Cover Girl for this issue of Jersey Shore Family ~

Welcome to the Neighborhood This summer Jersey Shore Family welcomes the Seashore Science Center to South Jersey! The Patcong Creek is a tributary for the Great Egg Harbor River—a National Wild and Scenic River designated by the National Park Service. In addition to the water, that title also encompasses the creeks’ wetlands and forested area. In addition to being a City Councilman for Somers Point, Ron Meischker heads up the Patcong Creek Foundation as founder and president, as well as advisor to the NJ Marine Fisheries Council. Additionally, he is founder of the annual Assault on Patcong Creek crabbing tournament, billed as the largest crabbing tournament in the U.S. The Center is sponsored by the good people of the Patcong Creek Foundation, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to protecting this key waterway in southern New Jersey. “The volunteerism

and support of the community for our efforts has been incredible,” said Meischker. “The people in our region truly care about our coastal rivers and bays.” The community outreach grew out of the annual tournament, as well as the organization’s support to keep the local marine ecosystem healthy through stream and wetland clean ups and ecology field trips. The soon to open facility will provide a hands-on experience for children of all ages. The exhibits currently under construction, are being created with STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math with an education component as their program’s foundation. Follow along as we welcome our new neighbors and report on their further developments. For more information on how you can get involved visit: JerseyShoreFamily.com

PARENTING 101: Raising Proud Americans Teaching kids about the struggle for freedom and what it means to be an American can be a daunting task as a parent. Let your child’s maturity level be your guide when deciding how much information to share. As holidays such as Memorial Day and 4th of July come about, it becomes an ideal time to begin introducing the concept of patriotism. More than just an occasion for summer’s first backyard BBQ or the unofficial start of the summer season, Memorial Day should be regarded as a day that we recognize the sacrifices of our military to preserve our freedoms. The following are some activities to begin the process of raising your proud Americans!

5-8 year olds • Dress in red, white and blue • Learn patriotic songs such as “You’re a Grand Old Flag” and “I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy” • Make a 3 pointed Hat and March with a drum made from a plastic container. Use a paper towl roll for a pretend fife! • Go to a Memorial Day parade • Make crafts, decorations and coloring pages for the holiday • Learn how to display and fly the flag properly, such as taking it down in the evening etc... • Visit Revolutionary or Civil War encampment events

12

8-11 year olds • Visit battlefields and historical sites such as Washington’s Crossing, the Trenton Barracks,Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Battleship New Jersey etc... • Make Memorial Day recipes, desserts • Create cards or pictures to be sent overseas to soldiers or to patients at a Veteran’s Hospital.

series, Sesame Place opened in 1980 as a children’s theme park in Langhorne PA, just outside of Philadelphia, PA. A full-scale replica of Sesame Street opened in 1988 and since then, the park has expanded to 14 acres with rides and water attractions. In celebration of the show’s 50th year, an ALL-NEW Sesame Street Neighborhood has been reimagined to reflect the vibrant new set now seen on the Sesame Street homebase. Sesame Place also offers a wide variety of shows and parades suited for young children, including “Elmo The Musical.” An ALL-NEW show in the Sesame Street Neighborhood will feature the favorite Muppets including:

Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Big Bird AND Mr. Snuffleupagus! For an additional admission fee, families can also opt to have breakfast with the characters an hour before the park opens to the public. To it’s acclaim, Sesame Place is also the first theme park in the world to become a ‘certified autism center’, making it especially attractive for families affected by the disorder... “C is for Celebrate!” Check their schedule to enjoy the Sesame Place Fireworks show on select dates throughout the year!
