Press Release
Visit the Nordic House at the Scandinavia Show 2012 This year the Scandinavia Show will create a whole new design experience. On top of the normal stands boasting great design pieces, Swedish designer Staffan Tollgård will create three Scandinavian rooms that will encapsulate the best of Scandi design from the Gustavian period up to the present day. Staffan Tollgård is the founder and creative director behind Staffan Tollgard Design Group, which offers a bespoke architectural interior design service for an international clientele. The company has over 100 projects under its belt and has won several design awards. For the 2012 Scandinavia Show, Tollgård is designing three typically Nordic rooms, including one from the Gustavian period, one capturing the retro feel of the 50s and 60s, and the final one showing off design from the last 10-15 years. The three spaces will create a detailed timeline of Scandinavian design, while also representing different rooms of the house: a classic dining room, a lounge from the mid-20th century and a modern bedroom. “I’m very excited about creating the different rooms and including furniture that will be representative of the specific time periods,” says Tollgård. “Great designs take themselves out of a timeline, so the surprise will be putting them back into their context. I think visitors to the house will see that Scandinavian design has been consistently ahead of the curve – that the Gustavian period and the mid-century modern aren’t as historically unfamiliar as one would expect. The challenge for me is going to be narrowing down the designs from the huge selection of great Scandinavian pieces that represent each era.” Thus at this year’s show, you will be able to visit the “Nordic House” and walk through the different time periods, starting from the late 18th century, going through modern design classics, and finishing with recent products that have made a real impact in design circles in the last 15 years.
