Jörg Widmann: Würth Award

Jörg Widmann will be awarded the Würth Prize of Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland on 7 September. The honour will be given by Prof. Norbert Lammert, former President of the German Bundestag. The Jeunesses Musicales International is considered the largest musical and cultural youth organisation in the world and is active in over 50 countries. The universal musician will receive a further accolade with the presentation of the Music Prize of the City of Munich 2021: ‘Jörg Widmann [...] is one of the most versatile and exciting musical individuals of his generation and an ardent advocator of the international standing of Munich as a city of music’ was the jury’s verdict. Am 7. September wird Jörg Widmann mit dem Würth-Preis der Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland geehrt. Der ehemalige Bundestagspräsident Prof. Dr. Norbert Lammert hält die Laudatio. Jeunesses Musicales International gilt als die größte musikalische JugendKulturorganisation der Welt und ist in über 50 Ländern aktiv. Eine weitere Ehre wurde dem Universalmusiker mit dem Musikpreis der Landeshauptstadt München 2021 zuteil: „Jörg Widmann [...] gehört zu den vielseitigsten und aufregendsten Musikerpersönlichkeiten seiner Generation und steht wie kaum ein anderer für die Weltgeltung von München als Musikstadt“, so die Jury.
Xiaogang Ye: various appointments The Chinese composer Xiaogang Ye has been appointed as the founding Dean of the School of Music at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzen. Ye has also been made the new artistic director of both the Suzhou Bay Grand Theatre and the Nine Trees Artistic Centre in Shanghai. Der chinesische Komponist Xiaogang Ye wurde zum Gründungsdekan der School of Music an der Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzen ernannt. Darüber hinaus ist Ye der neue künstlerische Direktor des Suzhou Bay Grand Theatre und des Nine Trees Artistic Centre in Shanghai.

Composer, conductor Howard Shore’s works include a choral symphony, an opera, a Latin Mass, concertos for piano, violoncello, classical guitar and two song cycles. The Lord of the Rings Symphony has been performed over five hundred times throughout the world. Howard Shore has composed scores for 90 films receiving three Academy Awards, four Grammys, two Golden Globes, six British Academy Film Award nominations, and nine Canadian Screen Awards. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a recipient of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award, and an Officier des Arts et Lettres de la France. We wish Howard Shore a very happy 75th birthday!
Eberhard Streul has worked as a dramatic advisor and director of operas, television editor at the German regional broadcaster SWR and professor at the Musikhochschule HeidelbergMannheim. He created successful music theatre works for children at the Nationaltheater in Mannheim: Papageno spielt auf der Zauberflöte, Das Geheimnis der Wolfsschlucht (in the musical edition by Richard Vardigans) and the horror opera musical Die Leiche im Sack (in cooperation with Franz Wittenbrink). His entertaining one-person work Die Sternstunde des Josef Bieder has remained a permanent hit and was also in great demand during the coronavirus pandemic. Zu den Werken des Komponisten und Dirigenten Howard Shore gehören eine Chorsinfonie, eine Oper, eine lateinische Messe, Konzerte für Klavier, Violoncello, klassische Gitarre und zwei Liederzyklen. Die The Lord of the Rings Symphony wurde weltweit über 500 Mal aufgeführt. Howard Shore hat Musik für 90 Filme komponiert, die insgesamt drei Oscars, vier Grammys, zwei Golden Globes, sechs British Academy Film Award-Nominierungen und neun Canadian Screen Awards erhalten haben. Er ist Officer of the Order of Canada, Empfänger des Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards und Officier des Arts et Lettres de la France. Wir wünschen Howard Shore alles Gute zum 75. Geburtstag!
Eberhard Streul arbeitete als Opern-Dramaturg und -Regisseur, als Fernsehredakteur beim SWR und als Professor an der Musikhochschule Heidelberg-Mannheim. Am Nationaltheater in Mannheim entstanden seine erfolgreichen Musiktheaterstücke für Kinder: Papageno spielt auf der Zauberflöte, Das Geheimnis der Wolfsschlucht (in der musikalischen Einrichtung von Richard Vardigans) sowie das Operngrusical Die Leiche im Sack (in Zusammenarbeit mit Franz Wittenbrink). Sein amüsantes Ein-Mann-Stück Die Sternstunde des Josef Bieder ist ein Dauerbrenner geblieben und wurde auch in Corona-Zeiten besonders stark nachgefragt. Wir gratulieren herzlich zum 80. Geburtstag!
