Before departure Passport

Please make sure that it is not out of date and has a minimum validity of 6 months (this is not necessary for all destinations, so do check the minimum passport validity for your destination). Enquiries regarding passport and visa validity by non-EU nationals may be made at their respective consulate. Please also remember that children of any age (including infants) require separate passports and cannot be included on a parent’s passport. This does not apply if a child was already on their parent’s passport before the new rules came into effect in August 1998. Identity and Passport Service

E-tickets

E-tickets are paperless and work in exactly the same way as normal paper tickets. Instead of a ticket, passengers will be issued with an itinerary/receipt containing your reference number and the terms and conditions of travel. At check-in, please quote this reference number. In all cases, please make sure that your name and departure/return dates are correct. Children under two are not entitled to a seat or meal unless paid for, so please bring food in your hand luggage. If, for whatever reason you do not use your outbound flight, the inbound sector will automatically be cancelled. This process is automated and standard airline procedure.

Check-in

Check-in times for your flights will be clearly outlined in your final itinerary. It is important you adhere to these times, since, should you fail to check-in on time, despite having a confirmed seat, all airlines reserve the right to release your seat to a passenger on the waiting list (which are always long during high season dates).

Check-in online and self service check-in

If you have been issued with an e-ticket and are travelling as a group of six or less, it is possible to check-in at the British Airways self-service check-in machines. For identification purposes, e-ticket passengers may also be required to insert their BA executive club card or personal credit card. If you are flying with British Airways you can check-in online 24 hrs prior to departure through “Manage My Booking” at www.ba.com. This will enable you to select your preferred seating and print off your boarding card. On arrival at the airport you will then check-in baggage at the Bag Drop areas. This is a speedy and efficient way of checking in your party and will avoid possible lengthy queues at check-in desks during busy times.

Seating

Please refer to the relevant airline’s seating policy. For passengers travelling with children aged 2 to 12 years in the Euro Traveller cabin with British Airways, seats can be pre-booked at an extra cost. Please visit www.ba.com for further information. In some cases seating is assigned at check-in. We advise where possible to check-in online 24 hrs in advance of your departure in order to secure your seats. All airlines now operate ‘non-smoking’ flights.

1

Baggage allowance

The luggage allowances will be clearly shown on your travel itinerary. Please note that currently British Airways Euro Traveller passengers are entitled to one piece of luggage per person into the hold. Club passengers are entitled to two pieces of luggage. Infants are entitled to one bag along with a collapsible buggy, free of charge. Currently all passengers with scheduled airlines are allowed one piece of standard size hand luggage (56 x 45 x 25cm) plus one handbag/laptop. Passengers travelling with low cost carriers are allowed one piece of hand luggage only and each airline will have their own baggage allowance rules. Please note that in all cases passengers must be able to lift the baggage unaided into the overhead locker. Policies do change so please check with your airline before departure.

Sporting equipment

With British Airways, sporting equipment such as skis and boots are now subject to additional charges unless they are part of your checked-in baggage allowance. Any sporting equipment items weighing more than 32 kg will not be accepted as checked baggage and will need to be transported as unaccompanied baggage. You can pre-arrange this through BA World Cargo. For the most up to date information please visit www.ba.com/baggagepolicy

Advanced Passenger Information (APIS)

Scott Dunn are legally obliged to collect passenger information from all guests (including infants) for electronic transmission to the country’s Customs and Immigration authorities prior to departure. This enforcement could be extended to any other country at any time. The following information is required to be entered into your booking prior to arriving at the airport. Please therefore ensure that Scott Dunn have all of the following information at least one week prior to departure. This only applies to passengers who have booked their flights through Scott Dunn: • • • • • • • •

full given names and surname (your passport and booking must match) nationality travel document type (i.e. passport or identity card) passport number passport expiry date country of passport issue gender date of birth

Inflight catering

On flights less than 1.5 hrs (e.g. Geneva), British Airways will be serving food until 10am so passengers can enjoy a light breakfast, fresh tea, coffee and orange juice. From 10am onwards they will offer a complimentary drinks service only, which includes wine and beer. On longer flights, British Airways will be offering a cold light snack or meal according to the time of day with complimentary drinks.

Airport chauffeured parking

Scott Dunn has negotiated fantastic rates with Meteor Chauffeured Parking Services for Heathrow, Gatwick, Birmingham and Manchester. Prices start from £85 per car. Simply drop your car off at the designated point at the airport. On arrival back into the UK, return to this point where your car will be waiting. To book this service at our special rates visit our website www.scottdunn.com. Go to the “about” page, travel centre, then airport parking. Copy the discount code (SCOD11) and click on Meteor Chauffeured Parking Services. Bookings must be made a minimum of 24 hrs before departure. Meteor Parking Services: 0844 725 4445

Currency

We strongly recommend that you take enough local currency with you to cover your first few day’s expenses, as cash may be needed on arrival for tips, tolls and any local shopping. Most major credit cards are widely accepted and can be used in most shops, petrol stations or restaurants. ATM machines can be found at all airports and the majority of towns and cities.

2

Insurance

It is a condition of booking that you and all members of your party obtain travel insurance covering all elements of your holiday arrangements. This includes cover for cancellation, missed departure, unused accommodation and all activities. Virtually all insurance policies exclude any undisclosed pre-existing conditions, medical or otherwise. If in doubt, please check with your travel insurance company. Please see our booking conditions for further information. When obtaining travel insurance you must ensure that the issuer is aware of the type and destination of travel and any activities which you plan to undertake that may be considered high risk such as skiing, heli-skiing, travel by light aircraft, paragliding, and mountain trekking.

6

Health in the mountains We have no doubt that you will have a fantastic time on your ski holiday. However it would be remiss of us not to make you aware of some of the health risks. We feel that by giving you as much information as possible* – this will enable you to have an even better holiday. This information is not to cause worry or panic, but to help you look after yourself and particularly younger members of your party.

Signs of dehydration

If your child is dehydrated it means that they are losing too much fluid or not taking enough in, usually this is due to vomiting, diarrhoea or overheating. Babies are particularly at risk from dehydration. Things to look out for are: • Constant dry nappies • Has persistent yellow urine • Has less energy and is less playful than usual • Has a sunken fontanel • Has a dry sticky mouth and lips • Is not shedding any tears when crying

Sun and low temperatures

Your baby may get chilled more easily, so bring along plenty of warm layers. Also remember that the suns rays are stronger up high, so use plenty of sunscreen on children older than 6 months and a small amount on the hands and face of younger babies. The best thing to do is to dress them in long sleeves even when the sun is not shining and a wide brimmed hat. Better still keep young babies out of the sun altogether.

Frostnip

Young children have a higher proportion of skin surface to body weight than an adult, so body heat escapes through the skin faster. Furthermore they are not yet moving around enough to generate a significant amount of heat especially because they are being carried a lot of the time. Babies who are not talking cannot tell you they have numb fingers and toes. If their fingers or any patches of skin begin to turn white they are becoming frost nipped and you must head indoors. Warm the affected area by holding it against your skin. Then immerse the effected area in warm water. Do not rub the area as this can damage the skin. Dress babies in layers which will trap the warm air. It is better for them to have too many clothes when you are out and about than not enough, that way you can remove a layer if they get too hot. Remember to check their face, hands and toes regularly.

Gastroenteritis

In the past there have been a number of reported cases of Viral Enteritis in the press over the last couple of seasons. There has been a great deal of speculation concerning the cause of these outbreaks, ranging from a contaminated water supply to falling hygiene standards. What is known is that the bug hits particularly hard during the school holidays and the British and Scandinavians as nations are more affected than others. In order to avoid outbreaks we would urge the need for exemplary levels of personal hygiene especially when dealing with young children who are susceptible and can easily transmit the virus. Young adults also need to be very aware of the contagious nature of the virus and be extremely careful when using public lavatories and drinking from bottles in local bars. If a member of a ski party becomes infected it is essential that they become isolated to avoid the virus being passed from one member of the party to another.

General dehydration

On a ski holiday you are exposed to the elements as well as enjoying good food and wine. Please make sure you drink lots of water.

7

Nose bleeds

Nose bleeds are common in ski resorts due to the dry air and altitude. Treatments for nose bleeds include: • Sitting up. • Squeeze the soft part of the nose, just above the nostrils, firmly together between your finger and thumb. Hold for 5 to 10 mins. • A cold cloth or cold pack over the forehead or the bridge of the nose sometimes helps. If the bleeding does not stop or if it is very heavy consult a doctor immediately. * Please note this information is provided as a rough guide only. If there is something of particular concern we strongly recommend that you seek professional medical advice.

Chalet information Nannies’ hours of work

We provide childcare for 6 days per week. The Nanny will work 8 hours per day (generally 09:00hrs – 17:00hrs). There will be no childcare on your arrival or departure day.

Illness

Childcare can only be provided for children who are well. If your child becomes ill during your stay, parents will need to be responsible for looking after their child.

Meals

We will aim to provide healthy and nutritious meals for children. If your child or infant has any special dietary needs, please tell us at the time of booking and we will endeavor to provide the correct food for them. Outside the Nanny’s hours, parents will be responsible for serving the children’s food. Therefore at children’s mealtime, parents will need to be responsible for supervising their children at this time.

Ratios

Scott Dunn Nannies will only be allowed to have sole charge of a maximum number of children, which is defined by the children’s ages. Unfortunately childcare will not be provided for children less than 4 months. 1 Nanny – 2 children under 2 years 1 Nanny – 3 children between 3 years and 5 years 1 Nanny – 4 children between 6 years and 8 years 1 Nanny – 6 children between 9 years and 13 years Children’s Club Val d’Isère ratios: Snowflakes 4 mths to 23 mths 1:2 ratio Snowflakes 2-3 yrs 1:3 ratio Eskimos 3-5 yrs 1:3 ratio Huskies 6-8 yrs 1:4 ratio Sabre tooths 9-13yrs 1:6 ratio

Games

A selection of board games and a console will be provided at the chalet.

Breakages

Should you break something in the chalet, please inform one of your chalet hosts in order that we can replace the item before new guests arrive. You will be charged for any breakages/damage in the resort and the costs should then be claimed from your own insurance (accidental damage to third party property).

Chalet staff day off

In all resorts chalet staff have one day off. This is normally Wednesday or Thursday but this may vary. In our Premier and Flagship chalets, relief staff will cover staff on the day off to provide breakfast and clean the chalet. On their night off we will be happy to offer advice and make restaurant reservations on your behalf.

Complimentary bar

In Flagship and Premier chalets we offer a complimentary bar, stocked with premium gin, whisky and vodka. We recommend that if you have a preferred drink, which is not provided by Scott Dunn, that you purchase it at the airport duty free.

8

A small selection of soft drinks, mixers and beer are provided in all chalets at no cost. Additional supplies are available at a reasonable rate. Wine is offered with canapés and during dinner, however, if you would like to purchase more outside of these times, prices start from 25€ / 25CHF per bottle for wine and 45€ / 55CHF for a bottle of champagne. A comprehensive list of all our wines and prices can be found in your chalet folder.

Dressing gowns and slippers

These are provided for each adult. Please feel free to take the slippers home with you but we ask you to leave the dressing gowns in the chalet.

DVDs

Every chalet is equipped with a stereo and DVD player. In each resort we have a small DVD library, which has a variety of films both for adults and children and is available on request. We also recommend that you bring a selection of DVDs with you. Each chalet is also equipped with an X-box and a small selection of games.

Satellite television

Some chalets have satellite television and some have cable. Please call us for the most up to date information. We will always try out best to provide this service, we cannot be help responsible if the service is not available during your stay due to matters beyond our control.

Gratuities

Gratuities are often given to the resort staff when guests feel that they have received excellent service. It remains very much at your discretion. However as a guide we would suggest €100 per member of staff. In Canada and America tipping is more common and paid as a matter of course in restaurants, bars and hotels.

Hairdryers

Hairdryers are provided in every chalet with a selection of bathroom products.

Indoor shoes

Please bring a pair of indoor shoes with you, as outdoor shoes may not be worn anywhere in the chalet. Please be aware that stiletto shoes and boots are not allowed to be worn in the chalets as they damage the wooden floors. We will provide towelling slippers.

Telephone and internet access

All of our chalets now have wireless Internet access. Please note that although there is broadband in many of the chalets, and we will always do our best to provide the service, we cannot be held responsible if the service is not available during your stay due to matters beyond our control. In some properties broadband may be at an additional cost.

Keys and access codes

On arrival you will be allocated with keys or access codes to your chalet. Please note that lost keys are chargeable and that door codes are chnaged on a regular basis.

Lost property

If you lose anything during your stay (especially on the coach) you must inform your Resort Manager immediately. Similarly, on your return if you find you have left something behind please make contact immediately. Scott Dunn cannot be held responsible for any lost property.

Scott Dunn shuttle service

(Available in Courchevel 1850, Val d’Isère and St Anton) Our Scott Dunn shuttle service runs from 08:00 to 20:00 hrs daily for any lifts that you may require. This is run on a first come first served basis so we advise you to pre-book your slot. If you are unable to pre-book, the driver will meet you as soon as possible. 9

Chalet swimming pools

Scott Dunn cannot be held responsible for safety in these areas. It is therefore your responsibility to supervise children at all times. Please note that plastic glassware should be used around the pool area, and inflatables are not permitted. Children’s swimming aids – arm bands etc, are not widely available in ski resorts and should be purchased prior to your arrival.

Please do not request reservations via resort staff or on a holiday questionnaire. Reservations are subject to contract renewal and the owner’s personal use.

In case of a problem

If for any reason you get lost or into trouble please, where possible, telephone your Chalet Host or Resort Manager. Equally if you are delayed in another ski area or resort please call. If you do not return for dinner we will expect the worst and consider in conjunction with your family/friends implementing a full-scale search and rescue operation. As this costs a great deal of money and involves a large number of people please do be responsible and try to call. In the event of a false alarm and the rescue services being called out, the cost of this will be passed onto the individual concerned. In all cases please ski with your Resort Manager’s business card, which has a list of all contact numbers on the reverse.

Special requests

If you have any special requests, please let us know in writing a minimum of 7 days prior to departure. Please note that hotels will do their best to allocate a specific requested room with a view or located on a specific floor, but this is rarely guaranteed due to the complex nature of bookings.

Zermatt Zermatt lies at the head of the River Vispa at 1620m in the southern most part of Valais. Once a small farming hamlet, Zermatt has become a mecca for both winter and summer holidaymakers. Zermatt’s international reputation was established by the Geneva scientist H. B. Saussure who first climbed the Klein Matterhorn in 1786. His exploits acted as a catalyst for further climbers, culminating in the triumphant but tragic first ascent of the Matterhorn by the Englishman Edward Whymper in July 1865. In the 1920s skiing was introduced to the valley and when the Gornergrat railway was completed, Zermatt became a premier destination for all skiers. It now boasts the highest skiing in Europe (Klein Matterhorn reaches 3,885m) where skiing is possible all year round.

Air carrier liability for passengers and their baggage This information notice summarises the liability rules applied by Community air carriers as required by Community legislation and the Montreal Convention.

Compensation in the case of death or injury

There are no financial limits to the liability for passenger injury or death. For damages up to 100,000 SDRs (approximately 123,000€) the air carrier cannot contest claims for compensation. Above that amount, the air carrier can defend itself against a claim by proving that it was not negligent or otherwise at fault.

Advance payments

If a passenger is killed or injured, the air carrier must make an advance payment, to cover immediate economic needs, within 15 days from the identification of the person entitled to compensation. In the event of death, this advance payment shall not be less than 16,000 SDRs (approximately 20,000€).

Passenger delays

In case of passenger delay, the air carrier is liable for damage unless it took all reasonable measures to avoid the damage or it was impossible to take such measures. The liability for passenger delay is limited to 4,150 SDRs (approximately 5,100€).

Baggage delays

In case of baggage delay, the air carrier is liable for damage unless it took all reasonable measures to avoid the damage or it was impossible to take such measures. The liability for baggage delay is limited to 1,000 SDRs (approximately 1,230€).

Destruction, loss or damage to baggage

The air carrier is liable for destruction, loss or damage to baggage up to 1,000 SDRs (approximately 1,230€). In the case of checked baggage, it is liable even if not at fault, unless the baggage was defective. In the case of unchecked baggage, the carrier is liable only if at fault.

Higher limits for baggage

A passenger can benefit from a higher liability limit by making a special declaration of the latest check-in and by paying a supplementary fee.

Complaints on baggage

If the baggage is damaged, delayed, lost or destroyed, the passenger must write and complain to the air carrier as soon as possible. In the case of damage to checked baggage, the passenger must write and complain within seven days, and in the case of delay within 21 days, in both cases from the date on which the baggage was placed at the passenger’s disposal.

Liability of contracting and actual carriers

If the air carrier actually performing the flight is not the same as the contracting air carrier, the passenger has the right to address a complaint or to make a claim for damages against either. If the name or code of an air carrier is indicated on the ticket, that air carrier is the contracting air carrier.

Time limit for action

Any action in court to claim damages must be brought within two years from the date of arrival of the aircraft, or from the date on which the aircraft ought to have arrived.

Basis for the information
