Thank you The last Monday fortnightly class took place last week and we had a great time. Most of us have been in the same class for 6 or 7 years so it was a sad night but we all managed to finish our projects. I can’t show what we made yet as there are still 2 classes to go but I will show them next week. Thanks to Lyn who made this lovely cake

The last Scrapping Your Family Class and a great day was had by all. Two layouts in the morning and another two in the afternoon, plus cakes and a lovely sweet potato pie from our Tina which was really scrummy.
I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching this class for the last five years and will miss it loads. I just want to say a big thank you to everyone today for making it so special. Oh and I bet Ann thought she’d got away with it but I can’t resist using this photo

A great Saturday and loads of smiley faces even though the boxes didn’t arrive in time. I made 12 exact copies of the boxes so that we could make the tiles and for those of you
who read the blog, the boxes and feet have now arrived and are ready for collection in the shop. Here are the three choices everyone had on the day but of course with the option to make up their own design if they wanted to. TRAVEL

Update Firstly thank you to everyone for your kind words, hugs and friendship. I have been overwhelmed by the response to the closure notice. Many of you have asked about the fixtures and fittings in the shop such as the architects desk and paper racks. From Monday each item will be allocated a letter and number. If you would like any of the items I am accepting sealed bids. All you need to do is put your best offer in an envelope along with your name, a contact number and the name and number of the item you are interested in. Then seal your envelope and put the letter/number of the item on the front. Envelopes will be opened on Sunday 19th August and everyone contacted to pay for and collect the item. This will be on a cash only basis. Watch out for more updates coming soon. Hugs Julie xx

It was a great day I will try to set up a gallery soon, of all the photos from classes past and present but for now I am posting just a few of the photos taken at Saturdays Creativity 101 class. Lets look first at the messy table I photographed when everyone were using the Bigshot.

And it’s goodbye from us
After 7 happy years in Norreys Road our lease has come to an end and it is time to say goodbye. Unfortunately the current economic climate makes it impossible for a business such as ours to survive. Everyone is cutting back and with larger businesses stocking more and more craft items and people selling cheap goods via E-Bay and other internet sites, we are unable to compete. On the bright side, we have made loads of new friends and learnt so much from each other and shared some great times and for that, we are extremely grateful. Our classes, including the fortnightly Scrapbooking Classes, will continue until Saturday 18th August when our last class “So Long, Farewell” will take place. This will be along the lines of the Creativity 101 Classes. So, if you want just one more class with Scrapbook Sisters take a look at our current class list and book your place. This blog will continue with past projects, photos and news being posted on a regular basis. The challenges will also continue and we hope our Design Team will stay with us going forward. Those of you who are interested in hearing about classes and crops after the closure need to e-mail Julie on scrapbooksisters@live.co.uk with your details and she will contact you with more details. If you have given your information previously or have signed onto our website, you will still need to provide this information.
There will be more information posted here over the coming days so keep checking back for more details. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their friendship and support over the last 7 years. We hope you will stay in touch and follow our exploits as we venture once more into the big wide world where scrapbooking will once again become our hobby. A couple to share Here are two of the four layouts taught in a recent Scrapbooking Class. I am into “white space” layouts and “Clean & simple” layouts so these two certainly fit the bill.
This one was made using the Tim Holtz Tattered Floral die along with his swirl die. The butterflies were cut out of the paper. I will eventually put small polaroid photos between the two butterflies but I haven’t got round to it yet.
The strips of paper in this layout were folded in such a way that they didn’t go flat even after being put into an album. Zihuatanejo No I can’t pronounce it but it was beautiful never the less. I am still addicted to White Space so you will probably see quite a few of these for a while.
The starfish were punched out using the Woodware star punch and scored and squeezed to make 3d star fish.
. I used a very fine black pen to make the bubbles to decorate the starfish and the borders.

Dear Diary This layout was great fun to make, especially as I got the chance to draw and use some of my own templates.
The main cluster of sea creatures are cut from one of the papers but the seaweed and larger fish were made using my templates.
Adding the air bubbles brought the layout together. The little photos are from Picasa using their Polaroid function. Thanks for looking. xx

Another class finishes Our fortnightly classes this time have been using Echo Parks Paradise Beach papers and there were three layouts used as examples. Over the next three days I will post them for you to see. The first is “Bonaire” I love the colours in this range.
I used the border paper to make most of the embellishments on the page.
The photo was manipulated using Picasa. Believe it or believe it not, you can make a rainy day on Greatstone Beach look tropical using this programme. If you would like to know more about how I use Picasa then please leave a

White space I just love making layouts using a white cardstock as the background. I am always saying “Less is More” when I teach class and sometimes it is really easy to over do the photos or embellishments. Using white space is a really easy way to complete a really effective layout.

Loads of layouts to share As you know we teach classes nearly everyday and make loads of layouts and projects as examples. I am a bit behind in sharing these so I will try to catch up by adding daily layouts for you to see. I also have loads of lovely examples of Gayle's latest Digi Stamp release. These are now available on disc from the shop and will go online today. Just so you know, our Digi Stamp discs not only have the Digi images but also example cards to get you started. I am gradually putting all releases on disc so watch the website for more details.

Scrapping Your Family I love this class. It’s not like any other we do at the shop mainly because, instead of getting in a set of papers and making layouts using the designs on the paper as a guide, we get in random papers to use for a pre-set theme. The papers can be from more than one range and they don’t necessarily go together but they suit our topic for the month. This time our chosen topics were, “Favourite records” and “Ladies that lunch” Although this layout is fairly simple it took quite a long time to make. I managed to get the record label for the large record from the internet.
I love this one. Although I don’t get much time to go out with friends I do occasionally get lunch out so I will put a photo on here at some time soon.

A hectic day but a good one and loads of people in class who all appeared to have a good time. This morning we did Scrapping Your Family where we made two layouts which I will share with you tomorrow. In the afternoon I had a technique class where we made pencil cases using fabric paints, pens, stamps and stencils. Here are a few photos of our ladies in action.
There were loads of lovely work and everyone finished. Well done everyone. I am teaching a class in July called “Fun with fabric� showing you a great way to use your fabric scraps on your scrapbook pages and cards so watch out for that one. Have a great evening. xx

Configurations For months I have put off doing the configurations tray as a class but it had to be done. Surprisingly, once I got started I thoroughly enjoyed making it. The secret, I think, is to treat each little box as a separate project. That way you feel a little bit of success every time you finish a section. Here is my version

Sharing a favourite project Tonight, whilst waiting for my son to finish work, I had a chance to have a quick look at the new SCRAP365 magazine. One of the projects is a Flip Flap Flag Book and it made me think of a project I taught in a Crop class a few years ago.

A Great Limited Edition Kit Class Both Karen and I loved these papers (although we both were unsure of the writing page) from the new Fancypants “Be You” range. Here is a peek at the nine layouts we made for the class. As soon as I can get decent photos I will show them in more detail.

New blog launch Over the last 2 years I have been teaching a 8” x 8” scrapbook class. I have been meaning to show some of them for some time but now there are so many of them I felt the need to give them a permanent home

Digi Disc Launch Loads of you have asked for Gayle Bonds Digi Stamps on disc so we thought, why not. So, for the last couple of weeks I have been busy making discs and photographing loads of Gayle's Card examples.
Each disc contains the digi stamps plus card examples so that you have plenty of ideas to get you started.
And of course our very newest disc of Digi Stamps from our March Class

Stamping Class When you are learning different stamping techniques you don’t always want to go away with tags or bits of paper, you want to show off what you have done in class
so this time we made a small wall hanging from all of the techniques we learnt. Here is my version. I chose greens

A great class and some fantastic new Digi Stamps. Gayle has been planning this class since 2011 when she made an eighteenth birthday card for her son. It gave her the ideas for the other Digi Stamps and they finally were released yesterday. Here are a few pictures of the class. You can see the concentration on their faces

You know you’ve had a good day when your hands are covered in ink and you’re still smiling. I think that everyone who left today had a smile on their face and a new bag to use for their craft goodies. This was the first time we have used Canvas Bags and it made a great class. Here are the three rough drafts I made. Everyone made their own in order to choose their own designs.
And here is the finished bag made using fabric paint, markers stamps and grungeboard.
I wish I could have had the camera ready when everyone saw what they were going to make. They ranged from “Yeh right” to “I can’t do that” but after a bit of playing and some relaxing stamping and painting everyone made a great bag.

Saturday was a great day A beautiful mini book in the morning designed by Karen. I can’t show you yet because I am teaching it again this Tuesday evening but it was a real treat. The afternoon class was the Limited Edition where we make 7 or 8 layouts for our class to copy or use for inspiration with a great kit this time from Prima. I love this sharing lark Two different projects today. Firstly a finished project started in one of our Tim Holtz Product Day classes. This one was done by Sally West and instead of the gold watches Sally chose silver to compliment her colour choice.
Here’s a close up of the clocks and you will be able to buy these in packets in the shop very soon along with a complete kit with instructions.

Time to share A special time in every little girls life, is her birthday so for each birthday we need to make something really special. In Family Scrapping on Saturday, Margaret Clarke shared this lovely card with the class. My picture do not do it justice as it is gorgeous.

A great day loads of creativity in one room and loads of Tea, coffee, cake and laughter. A good recipe for a fantastic day. Here are some of the photos from today and I will put more on Facebook later.
We were lucky enough to have Gayle doing Make and Takes using her brand new digi stamp
And Sue & Pam showed everyone the new Digi releases from Ladybug crafts including the new discs.

Each of the pocket watches were embossed with “Live, Laugh or Love�
The main frame was covered in inchies made from the paper collages we made at the beginning of the class.

Introducing
DESIGN TEAM MEMBER – SUE UPSON
Sue is another valued member of our Design team and like the rest of the talented team, has her own style and a wonderful imagination. Having known Sue for ages I know that she is her own severest critic and often throws cards away if she is not satisfied with the end result. We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her better. 1. What is your favourite tool? - Tough to choose, but probably my Copics - do they count as a tool?! If not then I'd say my Tim Holtz scissors, they are the MOST comfortable scissors ever!! 2. What is your favourite technique? - Colouring is up there, but I am getting more and more into distressing 3. What colours do you like using most? - I really like blues, especially when mixes with browns and kraft shades, gorgeous!! I struggle with pinks!! 4. Name your favourite embellishment? - I have to pick one!!! Ribbon, but followed closely by flowers and buttons... ooh and gems, and I love using pins too, they look really classy!! 5. Do you ever buy a card and why? - Yes, my kids Christmas cards. I made
them one year and got halfway through and wish I hadn't started!! I also buy a card for if they are invited to birthday parties by their school friends 6. What occasion do you not like making cards for? - No-one likes making sympathy cards, but they give comfort at such a sad time, but thankfully I don't make too many of them! Overall I don't like making cards for men, apart from my HB, Dad, FIL they don't seem to notice!! 7. What occasion is your favourite for making cards? - Probably Baby and Wedding cards as they tend to be kept as keepsakes and I think that is lovely! Other than that I do like getting an image to suit the recipient - either their interests, clothes, mannerisms or colouring 8. Tell us three things about yourself: I craft on the dining table, I'd like a craft room but think I'd miss being with the rest of the family! I nearly gave up crafting a couple of years ago, thank goodness I didn't!! I work to fund my craft habit!! 9. What do you predict will be popular (name a technique or style) in 2012 in the cardmaking world? - I think the steampunk trend will continue, and that digi stamps will continue to grow in popularity. I think colours will be softer and styles will be more feminine and romantic. 10. What card size do you use most and why? - I tend to make 15cm or 13.5cm square cards, or A6. I don't make A5 cards very often as my head just can't get round the proportions!! Occasionally I'll make a shaped card, and love them when I do so I should make more of these!! We asked Sue to send three or four of her favourite cards from 2011 to share with you but Sue couldn’t make up her mind so here are five scrummy examples of her work..

New Release Yes we had another Gayle Bond stamp launch class this evening and Gayle made some lovely cards. Here are a few photos to tickle your fancy and four of the new Digi Stamps are already on the website and ready for download. The rest will go on over the next few days.
Heart Hearts Digi Stamp Gayle designed these cards specifically so that you can cut out the heart , oval or circle apperture and put your own picture, artwork or stamp it. In this card example Gayle has cut out the heart and then attached strips of ribbon behind the heart creating a bar effect. This then allows you to thread an arrow through the ribbon to complete the card.
Heart Leaves Digi Stamp In this example we have cut out the heart and woven red dotty ribbon on the reverse of the apperture
using masking tape to hold it in place. Then take a cotton wool pad (Usually used for taking make up off) and attach to the back pushing gently into the ribbon to "Pad it". Lastly cut a square of white card and neatly cover the pad so that the inside of the card looks neat.
Heart Swirls Digi Stamp In this example the heart has been cut out. Next make a small collage using a script stamp and distress inks. Stick this behind the heart apperture and then add a butterfly. TIP if you make a larger collage on a piece of paper you will have enough to use for the stamped butterfly as well.
Oval Flowers Digi Stamp To make this card you will need two prints of this digi stamp printed off. Cut the oval apperture out of the main one and then colour the flowers in your chosen colour. Colour a few chosen flowers on the second sheet and cut out the flowers. Stick the flowers in place on the original using glue in the middle only. When dry, bend the petals upwards. lastly add your photo.

Introducing DESIGN TEAM MEMBER – JEANNIE REED
Jeannie is a valued member of our Design team and we are also lucky enough to have her as part of our team in the shop. Jeannie has a very eclectic style, is able to turn her hand to both Scrapbooking and Cardmaking.and is always full of surprises. We asked Jeannie a few questions so you could get to know her better. 1.What is your favourite tool? My favourite card making tool is definitely my Herma glue dispenser – I just hate to craft without it! 2. What is your favourite technique? My favourite technique is paper piecing, either stamping onto different patterned papers or cutting patterned papers freehand - one of my favourite ( and well used) designs is cute birds in trees 3. What colours do you like using most? I think black and white cards always look very effective but I don’t have any
favourite colours. 4. Name your favourite embellishment. I like to use paper flowers and leaves to make pretty embellishments 5. Do you ever buy a card and why? This year, although I did make about 60 Christmas cards, for the first time in about 10 years I bought some Christmas Cards as due to an increase in my working hours I ran out of time to make them all. 6. What occasion do you not like making cards for? I find it difficult to make wedding cards as it is such a special occasion I worry that my card will not be up to scratch. 7. What occasion is your favourite for making cards? I love making Birthday Cards that I can personalise for the person that I’m making it for. 8. Tell us three things about yourself. 1) My family call me the mad cat lady. 2) My ambition is to own a vintage VW Camper. 3)My favourite place is St Ives in Cornwall. 9. What do you predict will be popular (name a technique or style) in 2012 in the cardmaking world? I think with the increasing variety of new cutting dies on the market that die cuts will feature strongly on cards this year and also there seems to be several new ranges of paper featuring hexagons as part of the design which may reflect in card designs this year. 10. What card size do you use most and why? Most of my cards are square as square cards always seem to look more balanced to me. We asked Jeannie to send 3 or four of her favourite cards from 2011 to share with you.

DESIGN TEAM MEMBER – JULIE BLAKEMAN
Julie is a valued member of our Design team and has her own style and a wonderful imagination. Having known Julie for quite a while now I know that she doesn’t like having her photo taken (so thank you for sharing this one with us
and that she is a perfectionist with a wonderfully creative mind and endless talent
for making great cards. She is also a wizard on the Cricut machine and can cut out things I haven’t even thought of. We asked her a few questions so you could get to know her better. 1. What is your favourite tool? My favourite tool is definitely my Fiskars trimmer, I’ve tried numerous other trimmers but none match it. It’s so easy to change between the blade and scorer, I just wish I didn’t go through so many blades. 2. What is your favourite technique? I don’t think I have a favourite technique, I have a least favourite, I can’t stand heat embossing though to be honest I think it’s my dodgy heat gun that makes me not like it. 3. What colours do you like using most? I tend to go for pink and purple shades, I love spotty papers and bold funky flower papers, they really draw my eye. I tend to favour the stronger shades than pastels though. 4. Name your favourite embellishment? My favourite embellishments are buttons, I love them, love their colours, love sorting them, love the feel of them, love grouping them together to see what look good together...... You can never have too many, though I do sometimes find it hard to part with them. I also like Prima flowers, with huge button centres. Looking back through my blog though, the embellishments I tend to use the most are gems, they are so easy to colour so they match a colour scheme and that means of course I get to keep my beloved buttons lol! 5. Do you ever buy a card and why? The only cards I ever buy are Christmas cards. In the past I used to try to make them all but I got myself so stressed. I decided a couple of years ago that I’d buy a few as stand bys, I must admit though that I’d rather
send a home made New year card than give a shop bought Christmas card. I did actually buy a pop up card the other day though but that was just because I wanted to see how the folds went so that I could try them out in my own design. 6. What occasion do you not like making cards for? I don’t like making Sympathy cards, but don’t like to send them either, I prefer to give flowers at such times. 7. What occasion is your favourite for making cards? I like to make cards for any other occasion. 8. Tell us three things about yourself Three things about myself, let me think In 2011 I became the luckiest crafter ever when my husband had a craft cabin built in our back garden. When I was younger I used to knit socks for my Barbie doll. (other makes of dolls are also available lol!) I really dislike having my photo taken, I’m the most unphotogenic person you could ever meet. 9. What do you predict will be popular (name a technique or style) in 2012 in the card making world? I think cards are going to be less fussy in 2012, there does seem to be a trend for CAS (Clean and Simple) cards beginning , suits me fine as I just can’t seem to do the major embellishment cards that have been popular, I love other people’s creations but when I try they end up looking a mess. 10. What card size do you use most and why? I seem to make a lot of 13.5cm square cards, mainly as it’s easy to grab a pre scored card from the drawer. I do also like making tiny cards using my Nestability dies, I’m considering buying a larger size die cutting machine but I’m not sure which one to go for, any advice on the best one to go for would be gratefully received. Two more lovely bits to share One my quest to poet every day I have scrolled back through my photos taken in class and at the crop, and come up with these two beauties. The first is a card by Carol made using the Paper Dolls cartridge.
And the second is a lovely 3D frame done by Laura as one of our crops last year.

A post a day for 2012 This is my New Years resolution and I’m starting with something to make you think.. I just love this poem written by Lois Duncan. Do you have a favourite New Years Poem or saying? The close of a year is a milestone. We find it both painful and sweet. A dawn has evolved into sunset, A chapter of life is complete.
Its wonders are now only memories, And all of the stories are told. Tomorrow's adventures lie waiting with new sagas yet to unfold. Although we are glad to move onward, the past is an intricate part. Its memories, like beautiful music, Were strummed on the strings of the heart.
So cherish those wonderful memories. Hold them and cuddle them tight, Then tuck them away in a scrapbook and bid them a tender goodnight. Happy New Year to all of you from Scrapbook Sisters. Have a great 2012 xxx
