Dancing to music by the band Unwound
We had a dance at Catalina Vista on January 7 with Unwound band that was well attended. This month we’ll dance on Thursday, February 10, Catalina Vista, with Clear Country band. Check your email or send a note to KKSCOV@ gmail.com to sign up for the dance; it is pay at the door.
We have dances scheduled for Saturday, March 11, and Friday, April 8, Catalina Vista. These are also pay at the door dances. All of the dances at Catalina Vista are planned to be from 6-9 PM.
We started a new season of Country-Western dance classes on January 10. They run through March 7 on Mondays. The classes are held in the AFC Studio 1 and 2 (on the right as you go into the pool/fitness area). The Level 2/intermediate class is from 4:30-5:30 PM on Mondays, then 30 minutes of pattern dancing for both Level 1 and 2 followed by the Level 1 class from 6-7 PM.
Look for updates from and send any questions to Nancy. Klucking@gmail.com or KKSCOV@gmail.com.
Aqua Tone Irmel Wheeler 520-334-0957 irmel5596@gmail.com Marcia Polley 520-818-9073 Tue., Thu., Sat., 9 AM, AFC/Pool
Aqua Tone is a toning water workout that incorporates a variety of rhythmic body movements performed in the water. This aquatic exercise class enhances cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance.
We meet Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 9 AM in the winter, 8 AM in the summer, at the AFC pool. There is no fee to join the club or the class. The teachers are club member volunteers. Being able to do a basic swim stroke is very helpful. Items used in the class are buoys, boards, noodles, balls and a fitness band (you’ll need to bring your own). A band can be purchased from Marcia for $5. We assign an experienced member to a newcomer to help with learning the various movements. You will get a good workout in a fun class. Arthritis Water Pres. Sherry Olivier sherryolivier55@gmail.com Sec. Melanie Livingston meljean178@yahoo.com Mon., Wed., Fri. 1 PM Oct.-Apr.; 10:10 AM May-Sep.; AFC/Pool
When the air temperature is 77 degrees or higher, our club performs gentle water exercises designed by the Arthritis Foundation to help with range of motion. These are great for those with arthritis, fibromyalgia, replaced joints, etc.
Unfortunately, cooler temperatures are hard on many older people or those with muscular and nerve problems. Because January and February in Oro Valley historically have temperatures in the low 60s to 70s, we probably will not be meeting. Paid club members may contact the officers for modified copies of our exercises to be done safely at home.
Annual dues are $5 and the next membership meeting to recruit new members will be held in late March. See the March Tipster.

New members are warmly welcomed–men and women–as long as there is room. We are currently limited to 34 participants in these locations.
Annual dues are $3. Punch card for 12 classes is $30.

Guess what? It’s already the second month of 2022 and time to consider a new exercise routine. Why not try the SCOV Pilates Club mat classes? They are offered here in the AFC Mondays and Thursdays. The exercises strengthen your core (abdomen and back muscles). You will also notice that you have better balance, more muscle tone and increased stamina. People ask, “Can the benefits from the stretching and strengthening exercises done in class, really develop the body’s core, increase spine mobility and build flexibility?” The answer is a definite yes. We have two very experienced instructors and the cost is only $8/class, with

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that involves slow focused movements. Because of the benefits for balance, strength, and improved breathing, it is an exercise especially suitable for seniors.
