Vistoso Helpful Hands (VHH) is an all-volunteer organization providing year-round short-term assistance to SCOV residents.

Last month we told you about a recent addition to our forpay referral list: resident Darrel Cornelius, who has Golder Ranch Fire District lock boxes in stock and installs the unit for just $60. His correct phone number is 608-320-9175.

Our volunteer services include: transportation, meal delivery from The Views Restaurant, animal care, caregiver relief, errands, call check, light household/yard work/handyman jobs, paperwork organization, plus referrals for paid services.

For assistance call 520-447-0077 to reach a VHH dispatcher. If we cannot immediately answer, leave your name and number for a call back.

Do you remember your first bike? Wheels for Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing rehabbed bicycles to children and families in need in the Tucson area. To date, we have donated 3,000 bikes to local nonprofits who distribute the bikes to their clients. Some of our partner organizations include Refugee Focus, Boys and Girls Club of Tucson, Children’s Advocacy Center, Casa de los Niños, Ronald McDonald House and Youth On Their Own. Wheels for Kids is an all-volunteer effort, and we are always happy to welcome new people to our team. If you are interested in learning more, please visit our website or call Tom Terfehr. Help kids experience the same joy you had when you got your first bike. YOTO/Northwest Auxiliary Kris Cohen 520-818-2582 krisandearl@msn.com

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) preserves a way to donate money to Youth On Their Own (YOTO) and enjoy tax benefits under the new tax law.

Traditionally, people who contribute to charity itemize deductions and receive a tax benefit. Under the new law, people may be better off using the new, larger standard deduction.

If you are 72 or older, you can transfer up to $100,000 from your IRA to charity tax-free as a QCD, which counts as your required minimum distribution but isn’t added to your adjusted gross income. And you still get the new, sizable standard deduction against other income. It’s a win-win.
