ISSUE 182 – 15th May 2015 Google to Help Your Fast Food Faster Google is testing the capability to order fast food directly from search ads in the US. As part of Google’s continued focus on local search and mobile, when users search for a restaurant, alongside the standard map result with ‘website’ and ‘call’ buttons, there is a new ‘place an order’ call to action. This button then takes users to an order fulfilment page on the partner’s website, minimising the order process as the specific local restaurant is already identified. With six partners currently, Google is rolling out limited testing but does have plans to release the format more widely. Currently, Google is currently using take away aggregator sites as their primary partners and this could impact the paid and organic performance of individual restaurants. The reason Google is using aggregators is likely to be greater coverage across restaurants but this could unfairly favour aggregators in search.
