Google Glass - the future of search? – 1st May 2013 There has been much news coverage recently about Google Glass, with the new voice controlled wearable personal computer currently undergoing user testing. However until this revolutionary product becomes available for public purchase, can anyone accurately predict the impact it will have? With an estimated cost of $1,500 it can be hard to imagine Google Glass as a real competitor to smartphones and tablets; however supporters of the Google Glass project are quick to remind us of the similar negativity prior to the launch of the first Apple iPad; now on it’s 4th generation and available in a smaller size. Photographs taken using Google Glass have been uploaded to twitter (#throughglass) showing these products are very much being used and are fully connected. As with all futuristic developments copycat products are popping up to jump on the bandwagon; Google’s rivals in China have produced a similar product known as the Baidu Eye which is currently undergoing internal testing. Similar copycat products are rumoured from Microsoft and Japanese developer, Takahito Iguchi, who showcased his product, the Telepathy One, at SXSW in March. With only a few months to go before Google Glass goes on sale, it is vital that the search industry stays up to date and embraces the new technology from the very beginning. Search Engine Watch has provided their three top tips for keeping up with Google Glass: Keep an eye on Google. It pays to keep your ear to the ground about Google trends and developments.
