This is what we do in communications. You might think we don’t work, that maybe we’re not as dedicated as other students in other degrees. But the fact that you’re reading this article right now means that we’ve accomplished what for some seems like an easy task. We create magazines, blogs and online shows filled with content, comedy and creativity and we target them towards an audience we have already analyzed in advance. We tailor our articles and our videos towards you in order for you to pick this magazine up and give up the most valuable asset you have to read it: TIME. We manage to catch your attention and we do so by combining psychology, business and audiovisual skills. And most importantly, we do what we do with passion and commitment. In this final issue of SEAS Magazine we want to incorporate all of this term’s projects of communication into one edition to show our university that we’re awesome and we create awesome stuff. There simply is so much more to communications than you might think. And we hope that you might understand it in this very magazine. -Alessandro Fabbrini

‘We all look for inspiration. No matter if you are an architect, an artist, a business man or a communication student (like us). Through the Kitchn’Ichn project we aim at finding inspiration in the people around us - in the familiar people we meet, talk to or have a drink with in a bar. Each episode is built upon a strong personality, and a special, unique dish that is made for them. Follow, share, cook with us. Maybe one day we will cook for you.’ Stefan Fior - Beate Ancevska - Gaspard de Spoelbrech - Carl Setterdahl

The warmest and most sincere welcome to the ´´technological users´´ of the Steve Jobs, Lee Byung-chul, Bill Gates, Paul Allen, Masaru Ibuka, Akio Morita, Lei Jun o Lin Bin´s creations. An adage, which could have been perfectly chosen with intention, since the aim of this project, is to study, relate, and debate the relationships of these words: art & love and its translation to the materialistic world. You are probably asking yourself what agapè is. Or on the other hand, what is this 2nd year university student linking a term as agapè with art. This will be the path, which will guide the goal of this website. A website, which in the beginning is a consequence of university obligations but dreams to end up becoming a gift, a place for people to discover and analyze new things, where some will enjoy it and others will definitely hate it. Agapè means to love without expecting anything in return, without any convention or norm; does it not remind us of the primitive value of art? Art is a complicated and delicate word and it is far from being framed, categorized, lineal or determined. The goal of the project is to research, show, dream and inquire the world of art by the hands of several different artists. ÁAA March 4, 2015 Alvaro Anabitarte - Cayetana Ramos - Beatriz Tomas

If you’re reading this now, it probably means you’re actually interested in knowing a little bit more about us. Either way, keep reading. This is all about us. Obviously. Therefore, quite exciting. First off, lets introduce ourselves. We’re Sofia and Tamilla, but we’ll be nice and let you call us Sof & Tata. What’s your name? Too bad we’ll never know... Oh well... Hi friend! We study communications, therefore we’re learning all about communicating/playing with cameras. We were given an assignment and we took it as a challenge to try and make you guys laugh with us in the process. So, you might be asking yourself what our lame idea is. Well, don’t give up on us just yet. We thought you’d enjoy it more, if you were actually a part of it, and so did we. So for those of you who happen to be the lucky chosen ones to be filmed for our show, your welcome and we’re sorry. To be honest, who doesn’t enjoy a little awkward moment. Sofia Sarjanovic - Tamilla Dowse

IEU Day: Celebrate DIFFERENT Do you have the same taste in music and art as your friends? Do you always want to do the exact same things with the exact same group of people? Let’s face it, you will probably refuse to give a YES as an answer. After all, living in a heterogeneous community and being used to constantly moving around to adventure into the unknown, it’s unlikely that you will simply settle for a monotonous life style. You actually think, behave and feel proudly different to each other. Such an attitude is deeply engraved in IEU’s essence and deserves a celebration; there was no better occasion than that of the IEUDay to celebrate! What was remarkable about the IEUDay? Certainly the good vibes and cool mix of people from Segovia and Madrid doing all sorts of activities together for no other reason than that of having fun. Those who fell like simply chilling under the sun did so with a couple of drinks in their hands and while listening to music. Others decided to be proclaimed Paintball war masters. Foodies made sushi and tasted different wines trying to guess the difference between them. Last, but not least, our sport lovers’ plaid a fierce Football tournament and a Rugby match. More of us arrived home exhausted and with red/tanned cheeks than we would have expected. While our tan will soon fade away, the excitement and rash of the IEUDay are here to stay and will proclaim the beginning of yet, another funky year as soon as we start classes during the fall. Expect news on the event as soon as we are back from the summer vacation! By: Martina Vera

Mariam Katsana Age 20 Describe yourself in 6 words (in honor of our 6th edition). Sociable, active, caring, sometimes too talkative. Tell me about your passion for music. I cannot remember a single day in my life without music in it. I started singing when I was 4 years old and never stopped since then. I believe that music is essential for my life and for my personality, since it is the closest and most pleasant way for me to express my emotions when needed. I think the reason why I started to have this passion for music was thanks to my childhood best friend, who loved music but could not sing, so I would always be the one to sing and she would always dance along with me to entertain our parents. I have also tried to compose songs because I really feel and believe that music is the best way of communicating emotions. What/who inspired you to become a singer? It was not a certain person who inspired me, but more one generation. Growing up in Georgia, my parents and people in general would listen to Russian music a lot and I remember there was a TV Show similar to X Factor, called “The Factory of Stars”. I have watched every single episode and all the seasons, I even had their posters all over my room. My parents hated the show. But I was fascinated with all the talented people, their songs and their journey of how they made it to the top of the music industry. I truly think that most of the participants of this TV Show inspired me the most. Were you always a pop singer? Actually no. I started as a pop singer, but then I switched to classical music. Honestly, it wasn’t my decision since my parents took me to their very close friend – a very famous Opera singer in Georgia and they told me she was going to help me improve my voice, so I said yes.

31

After several years, I realized that it was not the right place for me, so I talked to my parents and I changed the teacher. I didn’t know, but in order to become a proper pop singer and have the kind of drive in the voice that is needed for pop and r’n’b, you have to sing totally differently from how the classical singers do and I remember the first year was very tough for me. I didn’t even think for a moment to quit, because I believe that if you want something truly from your heart and if you work hard for it, you will achieve it. Did you manage to achieve your goals? I believe that I did. Firstly, because before coming to university I participated in the international singing contest, which was held in the city close to Barcelona and I received 3rd place. Secondly, I had time to participate in several concerts held back in my home country and I even sang for the charity concert with some very famous Georgian singers, so yes, I guess I did achieve my goals. Who is your muse/ favorite singer in the music world? Why? My #1 muse is Beyoncé Knowles. People sometimes criticize me and tell me ‘how can you like her’ all she does is commercial music, but I have my own reasons. First of all, she is smart and the reason she composes and sings commercial music is, because she knows, it is the most sold music. However, when ever she gets a chance, she transforms all her songs, makes acoustic or simply different versions and with her magical voice and techniques, she shows her talent and that’s why I love her. Also, as a very influential woman, she tries to promote the status of a women that can create history and be smart, or in short she’s the kind of woman I would love to be one day, so yes, she is my inspiration. On the other hand, I am a huge fan of Ella Fitzgerald, Eva Cassidy, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra and others, but my #1 is still Queen B.

Do you manage to follow your passion for music even being in university? I try my best, but I don’t think I do the maximum of what I am capable of. It is really hard to study and pursue the passion for music equally and in my case, studying is more important, but I am sure I will never quit singing, because as I said before, it really is essential for me. Do you plan on pursuing a musical career in the future? Right now, I don’t have any plans, but maybe one day I will. Before coming to university, I thought of it quite often, but right now, I guess my priorities have changed.
