espite losing eight accomplished veterans from last year’s squad, Alaska Anchorage head ski coach Sparky Anderson is confident that his youthful 2014 team is full of unlimited potential. Led by three All-Americans, including two-time Nordic podium finisher Marine Dusser, the Seawolves will feature only one senior alongside 13 freshmen.

said. “We picked up some young talent with three additions on the men’s side. Kei Kullberg won the U-18 national championship in the giant slalom last year, so we know we’ve got someone with a lot of potential. Hughston Norton was on the podium at the same event with a third-place slalom finish, and Curtis McKillop is a hard worker who has had some strong results on the new radius GS ski.”

“We’re really excited about Andrew Arnold and Alex Loan, both talented Anchorage locals who have had success as juniors,” Anderson said. “Etienne came mid-year last season and is looking to be a Nordic impact skier this winter in his first full year, along with Teo Johansen, WOMEN’S ALPINE who brings a lot of potential with him The women’s Alpiners will be led from Norway.” by three returning juniors – Vanessa Berther, Anna Berecz and Taylor WOMEN’S NORDIC Guetschow – along with four freshman. “We still have a core group of returners, and we added some youth and raw talent that will take some time to develop,” said Anderson, who enters his fourth year as head coach and sixth year overall with the program. “I’m really excited about who we have and how hard everyone is working. I’ve been nothing but impressed so far. Our goal is always to qualify a full team to the NCAA Championships. I think a top-10 finish at NCAA’s is still our goal, but my primary focus this year is to give our returning athletes every opportunity to perform at their highest level and to develop the young talent we added this summer. Meanwhile, Patricia Sprecher narrowly missed All-America accolades with a 12th-place finish in last year’s NCAA classical race. From Switzerland, Sprecher was 13th in the RMISA MVP standings as a rookie. “Synnova Bruland is looking great in training this fall and looks to be a candidate for some top Nordic results, while Mackenzie Kanady is a Nordic transfer from Montana State, originally from Anchorage, and is doing a great job so far in training. If the women are strong and pushing each other, we have a chance to surprise some people this year. It’ll be fun.”
