COMMUNITY SERVICE • $43,743 – Amount raised by UAA student-athletes and coaches to support the St. Baldrick’s foundation for cancer research

The Seawolf hockey team spearheaded the St. Baldrick’s fund-raising effort by volunteering to have their heads shaved last March.

• Over 1,000 combined hours of community service by all Seawolf student-athletes in 2013-14

• 40+ pints of blood donated to Blood Bank of Alaska thanks to the UAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee’s effort with its yearly blood drive • UAA student-athletes annually visit local elementary schools to promote the importance of education and physical fitness. • In 2013-14, the Seawolves made trips to North Star, Turnagain, Lake Otis and Kasuun elementaries, along with the Municipality’s ‘Wild About Reading’ day.

The Margin For Excellence The University of Alaska Foundation provides a venue through which loyal alumni, fans and friends can give financial support to the Athletic Department, while capturing all of the current tax benefits allowed by the Internal Revenue Service. Gifts in support of Seawolf Athletics and our Student-Athletes come in many forms. From gifts-in-kind that allow us to enhance the fan experience, outright gifts for endowed scholarships or program support, memorial contributions, and even the donation of WCHA playoff tickets. It all makes a difference. Private support helps provide the margin of excellence required to excel both in the classroom and in competition. Scholarships UAA Athletics currently provides approximately $2.3 million annually for Student-Athlete scholarships in 13 varsity sports. However, the cost of tuition continues to rise. Keeping pace with the increasing scholarship costs is critital to remining competitive. Private giving in the area of scholarship support remains a top priority. Building Futures Initiative Through the generosity of our loyal donors, this initiative will allow for major investment in facilities that will allow us to provide exceptional training and competition venues and to enhance the game day experience for all Seawolf fans. Investments in the Building Futures Fund provide the funding necessary to enhance athletic facilities both current and future.
