THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Headmaster’s Message Dear Parents and Community Members SEPTA Fair After all the excitement and preparation, the heavens opened on the 24th and it was all cancelled. The fair will now take place on Sunday 30 October and we hope you will all still be able to attend. There may be other events going on over the weekend but with an extra two weeks of organization time it promises to be even bigger and better. Please encourage your boys and IB girls to sell all the remaining raffle tickets and download the Penalty Shoot-out Form. Valletta Gateway Terminals are offering Bursaries to Deserving Students. Anyone in Malta can apply and the application is completed and submitted by the parents. If anyone would like information regarding this, please contact the School. With the launch of the L-Istrina collection as mentioned last week, we are honoured to be selected to host a visit from Mrs Abela, the wife of the President. She will visit the school on Nov 15 which unfortunately coincides with one of our planned Parent Consultation days. As a result of this we are moving the consultation days to the following week on Mon 21 and Tue 22 November. More details will be given closer to the days but you may like to alter your calendar. Finally, I will be talking to the boys at Assembly on Monday about sport and practice and I ask parents to support this. Competition is important for personal and team development and everyone must practice, but when practicing with team-mates, sportsmen don’t play as intensely as they do when in competition. No-one wants to injure a team-mate in practice. Injuries occur by accident on the football pitch and basketball court, but sometimes they can be avoided if players don’t practice so hard.

THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Important Notice

THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE A Little Christian (ICT) Humour Jesus and Satan were having an on-going argument about who was better on the computer. They had been going at it for days, and frankly God was tired of hearing all the bickering. Finally fed up, God said, "THAT'S IT! I have had enough. I am going to set up a test that will run for two hours, and from those results, I will judge who does the better job." So Satan and Jesus sat down at the keyboards and typed away. They clicked. They faxed. They e-mailed. They e-mailed with attachments. They downloaded. They did spreadsheets. They wrote reports. They created labels and cards. They did some genealogy reports. They created charts and graphs. They did every job known to man. Jesus worked with heavenly efficiency and Satan was faster than hell. Then, ten minutes before their time was up, lightning suddenly flashed across the sky, thunder rolled, rain poured, and, of course, the power went off. Satan stared at his blank screen and screamed every curse word known in the underworld. Jesus just sighed. Finally the electricity came back on, and each of them restarted their computers. Satan started searching frantically, screaming: "It's gone! It's all GONE! "I lost everything when the power went out." Meanwhile, Jesus quietly started printing out all of his files from the previous two hours of work. Satan observed this and became irate. "Wait!" he screamed. "That's not fair! He cheated! How come he has all his work and I don't have any?" God just shrugged and said: JESUS SAVES!! Moral of the story we must always remember to save and backup and that

THE EDWARDIAN GAZETTE Xmas Raffle CHRISTMAS RAFFLES 2011 The human cost of the conflict in Libya has been immense. None more so than for the children caught up in the midst of all this bloodshed. St Edward’s College wants to do its part to help out, following in the steps of the Government of Malta and various other International Organizations, such as the International Red Cross and Médecins Sans Frontières who transported a number of injured Libyans for hospital treatment in Malta and Tunisia.

Recently a catamaran from Malta equipped with medical equipment as well as medical staff managed to get a number of injured, trapped in Tripoli, home to Benghazi. Please follow link for similar episode We have decided to do our small part too by donating the proceeds from this year’s Christmas raffles to Libya’s injured children. Please be generous and help us in our aid for innocent victims. We have a good contact at School that will ensure that the funds reach the right destination. We desperately need some good prizes to help us sell as many tickets as possible. Please send any prizes you wish to donate to:

Mrs Tania Sultana - Librarian library@stedwards.edu.mt Mrs Anne Tabone - Head of Junior School junior@stedwards.edu.mt
