has been having a bit of a hard time. For a while, it looked as if the restaurants, bars and hotels were returning to a decent level of activity that was cause for optimism. However lately, and I guess due to the relaxation of restrictions in August, it seems we are back to square one and we will again see the capacity of these establishments reduced and the consumption of wine with it...

habido altibajos en el sector, ya que por momentos parecía que los restaurantes, bares, hoteles, …, volvían a una actividad que invitaba al optimismo, pero últimamente, y supongo que debido a la relajación que ha habido durante el mes de agosto, parece que volvemos un poco a las andadas y que volveremos a ver reducida la capacidad de estos establecimientos y, como consecuencia, el consumo de vino, volverá a bajar…

We asked the Spanish Wine Board to give us their outlook for the wine industry. Over the summer they launched a campaign to support the hospitality sector and a second wave is due this October. In this issue, you can read how they see the industry evolving in the months ahead.

Meanwhile, the 2020 harvest has seen a reduction in the volume of grapes harvested.

Mildew has wreaked havoc in some of the Spanish wine regions and this could have repercussions on wine prices... but is this fair to the consumer?

One positive note amid of all the uncertainty is the fact that 2020 appears to be a vintage of very good quality.

Talking of quality, for the first (but probably not the last) time in our 8-year history, the Selectus Wines tasting panel tasted and rated wines from the Roussillon region of France. You will find the results in this issue.

Here’s hoping that we will have some more positive news to share in the not too distant future. In the meantime, please sit back, relax and enjoy your magazine!

Nos hemos puesto en contacto con la OIVE (Organización Interprofesional de Vinos de España) para saber cómo ven ellos el panorama del sector. Durante el verano lanzaron una campaña de soporte al sector y en este mes de Octubre lanzan una segunda oleada. Desde un organismo como el suyo, nos darán su punto de vista de cómo ven el sector.

Por otro lado, la vendimia de este 2020 va a ver reducido el volumen de kilos recogidos.

El míldiu hizo estragos en algunas zonas del panorama vitivinícola español y ello puede repercutir en el precio de los vinos… ¿es justo para el consumidor?. Pero por otro lado, parece ser que puede ser una añada de una muy buena calidad… algo positivo dentro de la incertidumbre.

Y una novedad que, posiblemente, se repetirá en el futuro. Por primera vez en 8 años (qué rápido pasa el tiempo) el comité de cata de Selectus Wines ha puntuado vinos. Los Vinos de Roussillon han sido los primeros en ser puntuados por parte de nuestro comité. Les presentamos los pódium de cada una de las categorías que se pudieron catar.

Y esperando que en un futuro no muy lejano, tengamos más noticias positivas, relájense y disfruten.

LIGHTS & SHADE All the variety, all the charm, all the beauty of life lies in its light and shade. Those hidden places, whose individuality is impressive, also possess a kind of enchantment which can be felt in the landscape. In the same way, that which they encapsulate, when viewed with respect, can be unforgettable, unrepeatable, inimitable.

When we speak of identity, what we really mean are the environment, soils and grape varieties, which form the foundations of flavour in any specific area. However, when it comes to the Pinot Noir, also known as the Spätburgunder, we could consider it to be indigenous as it has been grown in Germany for nearly 600 years.

The full weight of history and the knowledge accumulated over the generations produce, with experience, a human being capable of reaching the next level of excellence in any endeavour, among which, of course, is winemaking.

Even Shakespeare mentions German Pinot Noir in a number of his works; for example, in The Merchant of Venice, where he describes it as producing renowned, highly-prized wines, thereby showing how important these wines were to generations past.

Amongst these lights and shadows...the power of evocation.

The taste of memory. That legacy passed down to us by our ancestors. Everything they learned, granted as a precious gift transmitted by those who seek to create flavours associated with a culture which, in the case of wine, can be transformed into something higher. Something related to the place and the time. Something splendidly associated with every bottle and everyone who uncorks it. Thus we arrive at one of those points in history and culture where each bottle has a greater power of expression, an ability to transcend the producers themselves, in time and space, where every sip contains a small piece of German history.

Whenever we think of Germany our thoughts turn instantly to Riesling. White wines full of history and expression.

However, not all this country’s vinous magic is contained in this one varietal nor any particular location either. We need to travel to those areas which lie in the shade to discover a world of light which will open our eyes forever; there is a special magic in these local spots found in various different regions. One of them lies in the Rheingau, where the name Spätburgunder acts as a torchbearer.

The village of Assmanhausen takes us back in time, to the 14th century, when the German monasteries, many of them Cistercian, used to be visited by the monks from Burgundy. These monks brought with them the Pinot Noir grape and their winegrowing knowledge, thereby helping to spread the magic of wine.

August Kesseler is one of those picture-book wine estates with extremely steep plots of vines that could not be more difficult to work, but which provide them with an important creative tool.

The expertise in the art of working with the Spätburgunder, reflecting the influence of its landscape, is evident in every bottle. The wine we are speaking of here is named Cuvée Max, after Max Himsted, company winemaker and instrumental to the success of Spätburgunder in the Rheingau. It comes from an extremely steep, 80-year-old black slate vineyard with a yield of 2000 kg per hectare.

There are wines which should be enjoyed at least once in a lifetime. I believe that this is one such wine. Time is one of the greatest luxuries: it has the power to connect with the past, allows us to drink in a little bit of history and is something which transcends our human existence.

There are bottles which can eclipse time, ageing beautifully and providing a link with past generations.

This ability can attain new heights and become an art form. A kind of art which is ephemeral, beginning the moment the cork is removed and ending with the last drops. An art of extraordinary expression, but here in liquid form. Pure light.

EL VINO DE GUILLERMO CRUZ

Siempre que pensamos en Alemania, nuestra mente viaja a Riesling de manera instantánea. Vinos blancos cargados de emoción y de historia. Sin embargo, no toda la magia vitivinícola de este país está escondida en esta variedad o en una denominación en particular.

Debemos viajar a esas zonas que parecen vivir en la sombra para descubrir un mundo de luz que nos abrirá los ojos para siempre; hay más resquicios de la magia que acompaña a estos parajes repartidos por distintas zonas. Una de ellas, se concentra en el Rheingau y tiene el nombre de Spätburgunder como baluarte.

El pueblo de Assmanhausen nos lleva atrás en el tiempo.

Concretamente hasta el siglo XIV, en el que las idas y venidas de los monjes entre la Borgoña y el citado pueblo, llevaron la Pinot Noir a la zona. Una prueba más de que el conocimiento compartido permite expandir la magia del mundo vitivinícola; en este caso de la mano de los monasterios franceses y alemanes, muchos de ellos Cistercienses.

Cierto es que cuando hablamos de identidad nos referimos, principalmente, al entorno, a la variedad y los suelos, como cimientos del sabor de una zona en particular. Sin embargo, teniendo en cuenta que la Pinot Noir, o Spätburgunder -como ellos llaman a esta variedad-, lleva casi 600 años en Alemania, creo que bien podríamos considerarla como autóctona.

LUCES Y SOMBRAS Toda la variedad, todo el encanto, toda la belleza de la vida está llena de luces y sombras.

Aquellos parajes recónditos, donde la singularidad se muestra de una forma imponente, esconden, al mismo tiempo, un tipo de encanto que puede palparse en el paisaje. Del mismo modo, lo que de ahí surge, interpretado desde el respeto, puede ser inolvidable, irrepetible, inimitable.

El peso contundente de la historia y el conocimiento acumulado de muchas generaciones hacen que, mediante la experiencia, un ser humano llegue a un nivel superior a la hora de crear cualquier obra y, entre ellas, por supuesto, los vinos.

Y entre esas luces y esas sombras… el poder evocativo.

El gusto de la memoria. Ese que nos viene entregado por parte de nuestros antepasados como un legado.

Todo lo que ellos aprendieron. Cedido como un precioso regalo transmitido con el ímpetu de quienes buscaron crear sabores asociados a una cultura para que, de esa manera, el vino se pudiese transformar en algo superior. Algo orientado al lugar y al momento. Algo que, indefectiblemente, se asociase a cada botella y a cada persona que la descorchase. De esta forma llegamos a uno de esos parajes que son historia y cultura, que asocian a cada botella un poder evocativo superior, capaz de trascender a los propios elaboradores, al tiempo y al espacio… permitiendo beber en cada sorbo un pedazo de la historia de Alemania.

Incluso el propio Shakespeare nombra en varias de sus obras a los Pinot Noir alemanes; por ejemplo, en “El mercader de Venecia”, donde los describe como vinos de gran valor y renombre, lo cual nos demuestra que ya eran importantes en generaciones pasadas.

August Kesseler es, sin duda, uno de aquellos proyectos románticos; de parcelas con inclinaciones extremas, donde la incomodidad a la hora de trabajar es una máxima y les aporta una importante herramienta creativa que les hace llegar más lejos.

Maestros en el arte de trabajar la Spätburgunder y consecuentes con la importancia de su paisaje; el cual, sin duda, son capaces de introducir dentro de cada botella.

El vino del que aquí hablamos se llama Cuvée Max, dedicado a Max Himsted, enólogo de la bodega y hombre clave de la puesta en valor de los Spätburgunder del Rheingau. Proviene de un viñedo de 80 años, en pendiente extrema, con unos rendimientos de 2000 kg por hectárea y suelo de pizarra negra.

Hay botellas que merecen ser bebidas al menos una vez en la vida. Creo que esta es una de ellas. El tiempo es el mayor lujo de la vida y el poder conectar con el pasado y beber historia, es algo que trasciende al propio ser humano.

Aquellas botellas que trascienden al tiempo, envejecen de una manera bella e, incluso, se pueden ofrecer como legado a generaciones posteriores. Esta característica le acerca a algo superior; al arte. Un tipo de arte que es efímero, empieza al descorchar y termina con las últimas gotas, un arte en su máxima expresión, pero en esta ocasión en versión líquida. Pura luz.

Where the sparkling wines Raventós i Blanc are born and made

Donde nacen y se elaboran los espumosos Raventós i Blanc

There is an estate on the outskirts of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, in the Penedés region, owned by a family of winegrowers that represents one of the longest winemaking traditions in Europe and, therefore, the world.

Existe una finca a las afueras de Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, -en el Penedés-, cuya familia de viticultores representa una de las más largas tradiciones vitivinícolas de Europa; lo que implica que también del mundo.

This 90-hectare estate has vineyards, woods and a lake, and its winery lies in the centre. It is the estate where the Raventós i Blanc sparkling wines are born and produced.

Esta finca formada por 90 Hectáreas, con viñedos, bosque y un lago, tiene en el centro la bodega; estamos hablando de la finca donde nacen y se elaboran los espumosos Raventós i Blanc.

IN THE HEART OF PENEDÉS

This estate marked the beginning of the production of sparkling wine in Spain, when Josep Raventós Fatjó created the first sparkling wine using the Champenoise method with grapes from these vineyards; and where later, in 1888, Manuel Raventós Doménech created the first coupage using only native varieties - Macabeu, Xarel·lo and Parellada.

EN EL CORAZÓN DEL PENEDÉS

Una finca que marcó el inicio del vino espumoso en España, cuando Josep Raventós Fatjó creó el primer espumoso método champenoise con uvas procedentes de estos viñedos; y donde más adelante Manuel Raventós Doménech en 1888 hace el primer cupage sólo con variedades autóctonas Macabeu, Xarelo y Parellada.

Over generations, fathers and sons worked these lands.

The family tradition was perpetuated by Josep Maria Raventós i Blanc who in 1985, together with his son Manuel Raventós Negra, founded the Raventós i Blanc winery, in the middle of this historic family estate.

Esta saga de viticultores , que de padres a hijos trabajaron estas tierras, la continuaron Josep Maria Raventós i Blanc quien en 1985 junto con su hijo Manuel Raventos Negra fundan la bodega Raventós i Blanc, en el medio de esta histórica finca famiiar.

Today, the winery is run by Pepe Raventós, the 21st generation of one of the oldest and most interesting families of Spanish sparkling wine producers.

Hoy Pepe Raventós, la 21ª generación de la familia de elaboradores de espumosos más histórica e interesante del panorama vitícola español, lidera este proyecto.

Pepe lives and works in the middle of this estate, where there is now a farm with goats and sheep that graze in the vineyards, and horses that work the land. It is an authentic modern farm with a sustainable ecosystem.

Pepe vive y trabaja en el medio de esta finca, donde además ahora existe una granja con cabras y ovejas que pasturan por las viñas, y caballos que trabajan la tierra: una auténtica granja moderna formando un ecosistema sostenible.

Raventós i Blanc can proudly boast that there is no other farm in the world like it which produces sparkling wines exclusively and where man, animal and plant live together in harmony.

De esto Raventós i Blanc puede enorgullecerse: en el mundo no hay una finca como esta que elabore sólo espumosos, donde el hombre, animal y planta convivan en un círculo cerrado.

Raventós i Blanc is the assertion of a terroir; a commitment to the land. It is one of the few “integrated” estates where people, animals and plants work together to create the most prestigious sparkling wines in the world.

Raventós i Blanc es la reivindicación de un terruño; un compromiso con la tierra. Una de las pocas fincas integradas donde animal, planta y hombre trabajan para la elaboración de vinos espumosos de máximo prestigio en el mundo.

RAIMAT: LAS PRIMERAS AÑADAS ECOLÓGICAS DE DOS DE SUS VINOS MÁS EMBLEMÁTICOS: ABADIA Y CASTELL CHARDONNAY

Raimat has produced the first fully eco-friendly

vintages of two of its most iconic wines: Raimat Abadia and Castell de Raimat Chardonnay. Both have been made according to European Union organic agricultural principles which include, among other things, the replacement of synthetic chemicals with natural products; the use of fermentation waste, compost or vegetable matter instead of chemical additives; the elimination of artificial pesticides and insecticides; and the reduction in the use of sulphur in the winery. Raimat, with 100% certified sustainable vineyards, is a leader in viticultural research and development in Spain and a standardbearer for programmes to preserve the environment.

Raimat acaba de presentar la primera añada

totalmente ecológica de dos de sus vinos más emblemáticos: Raimat Abadia y Castell de Raimat Chardonnay.

Ambos han sido elaborados siguiendo los principios de la agricultura ecológica que marca la Unión Europea y que incluyen, entre otros, la prohibición de productos químicos de síntesis sustituyéndolos por productos naturales; el uso de residuos fermentados, compost o adobos vegetales en lugar de adobos químicos; la eliminación de insecticidas y pesticidas químicos; la reducción del uso de sulfuroso en la bodega; etc. Raimat, con el 100% de sus viñedos certificados como sostenibles, es el centro de investigación y desarrollo vitivinícola líder en nuestro país y un estandarte de programas de sostenibilidad y medio ambiente.

RAIMAT: PRESENTS THE FIRST ECO-FRIENDLY VINTAGES OF TWO OF ITS MOST ICONIC WINES: ABADIA AND CASTELL CHARDONNAY

Abadia is the symbol of Raimat. It represents the essence of the winery and is the oldest brand in D.O. Costers del Segre. It is a wellstructured wine of refinement and elegance combining ripe black fruit with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate. It is produced from Cabernet Sauvignon and Ull de Llebre grapes grown entirely in the Raimat vineyards on poor, coarse and shallow soils.

The 2019 vintage was excellent. A spring that was colder and wetter than usual and a combination of warmth and rain in August caused slow ripening which produced gentle tannins and a natural sweetness, nice freshness and intense fruit on the nose.

Raimat Abadia is a wine characterised by complex ripe red fruit aromas well integrated with toasty, balsamic nuances derived from the oak ageing. On the palate, it is full, round and well-balanced. Its powerful structure is provided by the Cabernet, with finesse and elegance coming from the Ull de Llebre. The finish is long, with lingering ripe fruit flavours.

Abadia es el emblema de Raimat. Representa la esencia de la bodega y es la marca de vino más antigua de la D.O. Costers del Segre.

Un vino estructurado, fino y elegante que combina la fruta negra madura con notas de tabaco y chocolate negro. Se elabora con uvas (cabernet sauvignon y ull de llebre) seleccionadas procedentes exclusivamente de las viñas de Raimat, de suelos pobres, poco profundos y de textura gruesa.

La añada 2019 fue excelente. Una primavera más fría y húmeda de lo habitual y un agosto marcado por una tregua de calor y lluvias propiciaron una lenta maduración, permitiendo obtener taninos muy suaves con un dulzura natural, gran frescor e intensidad de fruta en nariz. Raimat Abadia es un vino que enn nariz tiene aromas complejos de fruta roja madura bien integrados con finos matices tostados y balsámicos de su paso por barrica. En boca es un vino amplio, equilibrado y redondo.

Estructurado por la potencia que aporta el cabernet, y fino y elegante gracias al ull de llebre. Largo final de boca con recuerdos de fruta madura.

RAIMAT: LAS PRIMERAS AÑADAS ECOLÓGICAS DE DOS DE SUS VINOS MÁS EMBLEMÁTICOS: ABADIA Y CASTELL CHARDONNAY

Castell de Raimat Chardonnay 2019 is the first eco-friendly vintage of this wine, produced from an iconic Raimat varietal.

Chardonnay provides complex, highly aromatic, fresh and fruity wines. The vines are grown on two soil types: those which are shallow and coarse produce fresh grapes with good acidity and minerality. Others are deeper, stony, sandy loams which provide riper grapes with intense, fruity aromas.

They are cultivated with a cover of indigenous plants to encourage biological diversity and utilising controlled irrigation techniques; GPS maturity monitoring and pesticide-free pest control.

The Chardonnay is harvested at night to preserve its aromas, and in three phases: the first with potential alcohol of 12% (to obtain citric flavours), the second at 13% (tropical flavours) and the third with potential alcohol of 14% (ripe apricot flavours). Castell de Raimat Chardonnay is a well-structured wine with great aromatic intensity on the nose (melon, peach, nectarine and lychee). Subtle tropical fruit notes are intertwined with citric overtones making this a lovely, fresh wine.

Castell de Raimat Chardonnay 2019 es la primera añada ecológica de este vino, elaborado con la variedad emblemática de Raimat. El chardonnay ofrece vinos muy aromáticos, complejos, frescos y afrutados.

Procede de viñas con dos tipos de suelos: unos son poco profundos y de textura gruesa y se obtienen uvas más frescas, minerales y más acidez. Los otros son profundos, con textura francoarenosa y pedregosa y crecen más uvas maduras y con aromas intensos a frutas. Se cultiva manteniendo una cubierta vegetal de especies autóctonas que favorecen la riqueza biológica; con técnicas de riego deficitario controlado; control de madurez GPS y lucha contra las plagas sin pesticidas.

El chardonnay se vendimia de noche, para conservar aromas, y en tres fases: la primera con un alcohol potencial del 12% (para conseguir los sabores cítricos), la segunda con 13% (sabores tropicales) y la tercera con alcohol potencial de 14% (sabores de albaricoques maduros). Castell de Raimat Chardonnay es un vino estructurado que en nariz tiene una gran intensidad aromática (melón, melocotón, nectarina y lichis). Sutiles notas de fruta tropical entrelazadas con notas cítricas que le aportan gran frescor.

To mark the 150th anniversary, they launched a limited edition of a wine that reflects the work carried out to ensure they remain among the elite of the Jumilla D.O. They combine a selection of the finest grapes from the poor soils of Jumilla with the very special local climate to create wines that have a distinctive personality yet also respect the character of the winery, where they produce their wines in cement tanks dating from the 1950s.

Con motivo del 150 aniversario, han lanzado una edición limitada de un vino que refleja el trabajo realizado para estar dentro de la élite de los vinos de la D.O. Jumilla.

Following experimentation and trials with the grapes grown in the Llopart vineyards, the winery has crafted a new wine from a micro-vinification of just 1.950 bottles.

It will be unique and transient, because, each year the winery will be producing and releasing a different wine.

The winery has set itself the challenge of creating a new enigmatic wine with each new harvest which is aimed at stimulating all the wine drinker’s senses: consumers can download a file from the lavidasecretadelesplantes.com website and fill in their own tasting notes or take a fun quiz to discover the riddles that lie hidden in the wine.

L’Enigma is part of the “Secret Life of Plants” project, which covers the production of the Llopart still wines and musts including the young white Vitis, the Xarel-lo crianza wine Clos dels Fòssils, the Sumoll rosé Carmí, and the Most Flor de Xarel-lo (the winery’s charity must).

PALOMINO The Palomino or Palomino Fino is one of the most internationally recognised and appreciated grape varieties of Southern Europe. It makes up 95% of the vineyards planted in Jerez, but you may be surprised to find it in other locations in Spain such as Extremadura, Galicia, Cantabria and Castilla y León. In the Canary Islands, it goes by the name of Listan Blanco.

The history of Jerez spans not just generations but civilisations. One of the darkest periods of history for Jerez was in the 10th century, during the caliphate of Alhaken II and Arab domination, when all the vineyards were grubbed up on religious grounds. Later, in around the 13th century, Alfonso X reconquered Jerez ushering in a revival of the region’s vineyards and the Palomino varietal. But one of the things that turned the Palomino, and especially Jerez, into the references they have become today was the commercial influence of the Northern European countries. In the middle of the 17th century, more than one gentleman bearing an Irish or English surname came and set up shop in Jerez to sell, and even produce, his own wines. Thus names such as Garvey, Humbert, Williams and Sandeman have become part of Jerez’ living heritage.

The Palomino is unique for Its chameleon-like ability to produce different wines and particularly for its splendid sherries. The Palomino can create young sherries protected from oxidation by the veil of flor, as well as longageing sherries from ancient soleras. These are surprising and fascinating sherries with a refreshing saline and candied character.

laureadas y reconocidas a nivel internacional del parque de castas de la zona sud de Europa. Representa el noventa y cinco por ciento del viñedo plantado en Jerez. Pero también se puede encontrar en otros escenarios.

Zona Sur, Galicia, Cantabria o Castilla y León son zonas de Palomino, aunque seguramente nos puede sorprender que la encontremos en otras zonas de la península. En diferentes islas de las Canarias, se la conoce como Listan Blanco.

La historia de Jerez, pasa por distintas generaciones pero también por distintas civilizaciones. Una de las épocas negras del marco de Jerez fue en el siglo X cuando durante el califato de Alhaken II se decidió arrancar todas las viñas por motivos religiosos debido a la dominación árabe. Más adelante sobre el siglo XIII, Alfonso X reconquista Jerez y se augura el resurgir de las viñas en la zona y de la Palomino. Pero uno de los hechos que a día de hoy hacen que la Palomino, y en especial Jerez sean referentes, es la influencia comercial de los países del norte. A mediados del siglo XVII se hace presente y son más de un apellido irlandés o ingles los que aterrizan en el marco de Jerez para comercializar e incluso elaborar sus propios vinos. Así nombres como Garvey, Humbert, Williams o Sandeman son historia viva en Jerez.

Su camaleónico comportamiento en la elaboración es lo que la hace única y sus vinos joyas. La Palomino es capaz de darte vinos jóvenes protegidos de la oxidación por el velo en flor y a su vez vinos con soleras antiquísimas que perduran en el tiempo. Vinos salados, refrescantes, confitados, con carácter que te llevan a la reflexión pero también a la sorpresa.

MARQUÉS DE RISCAL EXTENDS ITS HOTEL IN THE CITY OF WINE IN EL CIEGO

The Hotel Marqués de Riscal, a Marriott International Luxury Collection hotel, was designed by the famous architect Frank O. Gehry and opened in 2006 when it became one of Spain’s first wine tourism hotels.

Thanks to its innovative design featuring a profusion of spectacular and peculiar shapes, it is already an architectural icon. The titanium and steel exterior of the building sits in stark contrast to the architecture of the wine cellars, designed by the architect Ricardo Bellsolá in around 1858, with which it coexists within the Ciudad del Vino.

The hotel extension work was entrusted to architect Cesar Caicoya, who was also involved in the original project. His brief was to add 18 luxury bedroom to take the total number of rooms to 61. These rooms come with all the amenities and services that one would expect of a hotel bearing the Marriot International’s “The Luxury Collection” badge.

The hotel also has 3 spaces where visitors can sample, not just the Marqués de Riscal wines, but the local and regional gastronomy too. On the one side, there is the Michelin-starred restaurant, presided over by chef Francis Paniegon, but there is also the 1860 Tradición Restaurant and Vinoteca&Bistro located inside the hotel itself.

The hotel extension project is part of the company’s sustainability and energy-efficiency strategy, which includes the recently-gained organic certification for its Rueda vineyards.

El Hotel Marqués de Riscal The Luxury Collection, una de las marcas de Marriott International, fue diseñado por el reconocido arquitecto Frank O. Gehry, y se inauguró en el año 2006, convirtiéndose en uno de los primeros hoteles enoturísticos de España.

Con un diseño innovador, ya es un icono arquitectónico, y destaca por la espectacularidad y peculiaridad de sus formas. El titanio y el acero de las láminas superiores hacen que el edificio contraste notablemente con las bodegas, con las que convive, dentro de La Ciudad del Vino, ya que éstas fueron diseñadas por el arquitecto Ricardo Bellsolá alrededor del año 1858.

El arquitecto que se ha encargado de la ampliación del hotel ha sido Cesar Caicoya, el cual ya participó en el proyecto original. Él se ha encargado de la ampliación de esas 18 habitaciones de lujo, para un total de 61 habitaciones en total. Todas las habitaciones cuentan con todos los lujos y servicios que se le presuponen a un hotel de la marca The Luxury Collection, de la cadena Marriot International.

Además, el hotel cuenta con 3 espacios en los que poder degustar, no sólo los vinos de Marqués de Riscal, sino también la gastronomía local y de proximidad. Por un lado encontraremos el restaurante gastronómico, galardonado con una estrella Michelín, dirigido por el chef Francis Paniego. Y, además, el hotel también cuenta con el Restaurante 1860 Tradición, y la Vinoteca&Bistro.

To meet the environmental requirements of the European directive, the new rooms have been built using recyclable materials that also reduce the hotel’s energy consumption.

The result is a modern hotel extension that respects the environment and the main building and further beautifies the original work of the Canadian architect.

In addition to the hotel extension, and in its efforts to achieve greater energy efficiency and sustainability, Marqués de Riscal has worked with the Iberdrola energy company to develop a self-supply energy system. This is fully aligned with its objective of improving energy management and saving energy. Iberdrola, together with the Bikote Solar company, has installed the first phase (312.3 kWp) of the system distributed over a total of 961 photovoltaic solar panels.

All the energy generated by this system is used by the hotel and will generate a 30% saving in consumption. This solution comes with an app that enables the company to know what energy is being produced and consumed in real-time.

All these modifications and extensions create an added value for the hotel’s guests, who will be able to enjoy all the amenities of a luxury hotel in an enchanting setting, knowing that better energy efficiency and sustainability are being actively pursued.

Para cumplir con los requisitos de respeto ambiental marcados por la directiva europea, las nuevas habitaciones se han diseñado con materiales reciclables que, además, reducen el consumo energético del hotel.

El resultado ha dado lugar a una ampliación moderna del hotel, respetuosa con el entorno y con el edificio principal, y que ensalza, más si cabe, la obra original del arquitecto canadiense.

Adicionalmente a la remodelación del hotel, Marqués de Riscal, en su afán de conseguir más eficiencia y sostenibilidad, ha cooperado con Iberdrola para encontrar un sistema de autoconsumo que se alinease con sus propósitos de mejoras y ahorro. La energética,junto con la empresa Bikote Solar, han instalado un sistema, en una primera fase, de 312,3 kWp, distribuidos en un total de 961 paneles solares fotovoltaicos.

La energía generada por este sistema se destina, en su totalidad, al hotel, y permitirá un ahorro del 30% del consumo habitual. Esta solución permite, en tiempo real, conocer la energía que se produce y consume, todo ello a través de una App. Todos estos cambios, modificaciones, ampliaciones, son un valor añadido para los huéspedes del hotel, que podrán disfrutar de un hotel de lujo en un entorno fascinante, y que sabrán que se busca una mejor eficiencia y sostenibilidad energética.

WINES NEAR THE DANUBE RIVER

Bortársaság Lánchíd is not just our shop with the largest space, as it undoubtedly has the most beautiful view, looking across the River Danube to Pest. It has not always been like that: a hundred years ago, shop assistants and customers could only look out onto a narrow street from there, but even back then the place offered special and unique products. Indeed, the most important aspect is that the house has always had a connection to wine.

FROM PUB TO MUSICAL INSTRUMENT PALACE

A pub long occupied this space back when only one-storey buildings lined up along the banks of the River Danube. It must have done good business, especially just after the bridge, Lánchíd (Chain Bridge), was built – for anyone who wanted to get to the other side had to pass by. However, the really big turn came when the instrument maker Stowasser purchased the house from the pub owner Kleinhackels and installed his shop here.

The workshop and storage facility were located together in the neighbouring Öntőház street, then the company conquered the Hungarian market with a huge commercial campaign. Newspapers from the time are full of advertisements that claim that it is the ‘oldest’, ‘first’ and only instrument manufacturer, and that everybody should come to Lánchíd utca 5, where they can purchase brass, woodwind and string instruments, or even accordions if needed, straight from the producer. The campaign must have been a success, as they had such high turnover that they soon outgrew the one-storey building. They decided to pull it down and build the Stowasser Instrument Palace in its place. As usual, there was a bit of fuss regarding bureaucracy, but eventually they got the permission.

Then, in 1901, the house we know today was built.

VINOS A LOS PIES DEL DANUBIO

Bortársaság Lánchíd es la tienda más grande de un grupo de wine shops pertenecientes a la misma cadena. Además es la que tiene la vista más hermosa, mirando al otro lado del río Danubio hacia Budapest. Pero esto no ha sido siempre así: hace cien años, los dependientes y los clientes solo podían asomarse a una calle estrecha, pero incluso entonces el lugar ofrecía productos especiales y únicos. De hecho, el aspecto más importante es que la casa siempre ha tenido una conexión con el vino.

DE PUB A PALACIO DE INSTRUMENTOS MUSICALES

Un pub ocupó durante mucho tiempo este espacio cuando los edificios de una planta se alineaban a lo largo de las orillas del río Danubio. Se han hecho buenos negocios en esta zona, especialmente justo después de que se construyó el puente Lánchíd (Puente de las Cadenas), ya que cualquiera que quisiera llegar al otro lado tenía que pasar por allí. Sin embargo, el gran cambio llegó cuando el fabricante de instrumentos Stowasser compró la casa al dueño del pub, Kleinhackels, e instaló su tienda aquí.

El taller y el almacén se ubicaron juntos en la vecina calle Öntőház, y la empresa conquistó el mercado húngaro con una gran campaña comercial. Los periódicos de la época estaban llenos de anuncios que afirmaban que era el 'más antiguo', el 'primero' y el único fabricante de instrumentos, y que todo el mundo debería venir a Lánchíd utca 5, donde se pueden adquirir instrumentos de viento, viento-madera y cuerda, o incluso acordeones. si era necesario, directamente del productor. INSTRUMENT-MAKING OWNER, WINE-LOVING NEIGHBOUR

Of course, back then, it didn’t look like it does today.

Mostly because it was surrounded by houses on all sides.

Towards the Danube, three-four storey palaces blocked the view: from the side of Clark Ádám square, it was closed in by the block of the Ministry of Trade; and even at the foot of the castle, it was bordered by a row of houses — where the aforementioned instrument workshop was to be found. However, János Stowasser wasn’t just good at marketing and mass production – he always had his mind on innovation.

His advertisements are full of sensational inventions that make us smile today: he cannot stop emphasizing that he is the inventor of the ‘sound-intensifying beam’ and the ‘echo wing trumpet’, which are of course used by all the orchestras that matter around Europe. Still, he had one truly exciting innovation that is known by everyone even today. By fusing certain parts of the saxophone and the oboe, he created the modern tárogató, a woodwind instrument. Whether or not he truly was the first one to come up with the idea of the instrument that was inspired by the Turkish pipe, we cannot tell, but it’s certain that he patented it two days prior to Schunda, his great competitor whose model became more famous eventually – the two were involved in legal battles for a long time afterwards.

Nevertheless, it was a place that might have reminded us of its use today – the ground-floor shop offered real handcrafted goods. It sold a real Hungaricum (the tárogató has been registered as one since 2014) and products that were successful on the international market (as not only Hungarian army bands bought their wind instruments from here). And the house has an even stronger connection to wine. The larger part of it was not occupied by the instrument store, but masionettes occupied the upper floors of the palace and according to the Budapest address and flat register of 1916, József Fehér, wine merchant, was also registered here.

Sin embargo, János Stowasser no sólo era bueno en marketing y producción en masa, siempre tuvo la mente puesta en la innovación.

Sus anuncios están llenos de ideas sensacionales que nos hacen sonreír a día de hoy: no puede dejar de enfatizar que él es el inventor del 'haz intensificador de sonido' y la 'trompeta de ala de eco', que por supuesto son utilizadas por todas las orquestas que tocan alrededor de Europa.

Aún así, tenía una innovación realmente emocionante que todos conocen incluso hoy. Al fusionar ciertas partes del saxofón y el oboe, creó el moderno tárogató, un instrumento de viento de madera. Si realmente fue o no el primero en tener la idea del instrumento que se inspiró en la pipa turca, no se puede confirmar al 100%, pero es cierto que lo patentó dos días antes que Schunda, su gran competidor cuyo modelo se hizo más famoso de forma provisional. Ambos personajes estuvieron involucrados en batallas legales durante mucho tiempo después.

Sin embargo, era un lugar que podría habernos recordado su uso hoy: la tienda de la planta baja ofrecía productos artesanales reales. Vendió un Hungaricum real (el tárogató está registrado como tal desde 2014) y productos que tuvieron éxito en el mercado internacional (ya que no solo las bandas del ejército húngaro compraron en la tienda sus instrumentos de viento). Y la casa tiene una conexión aún más fuerte con el vino. La mayor parte del espacio no estaba ocupada por la tienda de instrumentos, pero “masionettes” ocupaban los pisos superiores del palacio y, según consta en el registro de propiedades de 1916, en esta dirección de Budapest, József Fehér, comerciante de vinos, también estaba registrado aquí.

THE ODD-NUMBERED BUILDINGS

Miraculously, the house survived World War II, while almost all its neighbours disappeared off the face of the earth. Although many people think that several of them could have been saved, at the end of the 1940s, they didn’t bother much about such things. Today there is a park in the place of the former palaces on the banks of the Danube and the huge ministry building, and we find nothing of the line of houses that stood behind them: the buttress of Castle Hill occupies the spot where Stowassers instrument storage used to operate.

The only thing that commemorates the former houses is that the numbers of Lánchíd utca start with 5 today and any search for even numbers is in vain. After the destruction,

the Neo-Baroque instrument palace came to the forefront at once, and even though it was designed in the shadow of its big brothers, it had no reason to be ashamed when it stepped out of it. It appears as it has always been designed for such a place. True, at the time of renovation, it was ‘scalped’ and like so many other tenement houses in Budapest, it lost its ornamental roof structure, but it still reminds us of the times when ambitious properties were built even a corner away from the main street. Milagrosamente, la casa sobrevivió a la Segunda Guerra Mundial, mientras que casi todos sus vecinos desaparecieron de la faz de la tierra. Aunque mucha gente piensa que varios de ellos podrían haberse salvado, a finales de la década de 1940, no se preocupaban mucho por esas cosas. Hoy en día hay un parque en el lugar de los antiguos palacios a orillas del Danubio y el enorme edificio del ministerio, y no encontramos nada de la línea de casas que se encontraba detrás de ellos: el contrafuerte de Castle Hill ocupa el lugar donde Stowassers almacenaba los instrumentos.

Lo único que recuerda las antiguas casas es que los números de la calle Lánchíd utca comienzan en el número 5 y cualquier búsqueda de números pares es en vano.

Después de la destrucción, el palacio neobarroco de instrumentos pasó a primer plano de inmediato, y aunque fue diseñado a la sombra de sus hermanos mayores, no tenía por qué avergonzarse. Parece que había sido diseñado para un lugar así. Es cierto que, en el momento de la renovación, se le hizo un cambio de imagen y, como tantas otras casas vecinas en Budapest, perdió su estructura de techo ornamental, pero todavía nos recuerda los tiempos en que se construían propiedades ambiciosas, incluso al lado de la calle principal. Vale la pena ver cuántas formas ondean en su fachada, qué tan frescos son sus balcones cerrados y qué emocionantes son los balcones que los conectan. Para quien viene a Bortársaság Lánchíd en busca de un buen vino, vale la pena pasar un minuto para ver sus divertidos detalles.

2020 will obviously be remembered as the “Year of Covid-19”. It has been a strange year which has caused many problems in several walks of life. In our industry, the wine industry, the effect has been far-reaching: fairs and events cancelled throughout Spain and abroad, loss of sales due to the closing down of the hospitality sector, etc. But now it is time for us to adapt to the new reality, move forward and look at the glass as being #SempreMedioLena (always half full) in the words of the Spanish Wine Board’s new campaign.

The Spanish Wine Board has put together various initiatives that invite people to actively seek out and share good news and to raise a toast to all the good things in life, with a glass of Spanish wine, of course.

SW: At the end of September the singer-songwriter Rozalén gave three private acoustic concerts in Madrid, Orense and Barcelona for the winners of the #QuieroBrindarporMicumple (I want to toast my birthday) competition. How did the Spanish Wine Board come up with the idea for this campaign? What impact has it had? Who was this campaign aimed at?

The Rozalén concerts in September were the highlight of the #QuieroBrindarPorMiCumple competition, a promotion launched by the Spanish Wine Board at the end of June to coincide with the so-called “return to normal” after almost 3 months of lockdown. Given the circumstances, it was obvious to us that we had to work on developing messaging and activities with a dual purpose: on the one hand, to build consumer confidence in this return to normality, and on the other, to support the hospitality sector, which has been hard hit by this crisis and which is so important to the wine industry.

And that is how the #QuieroBrindarPorMiCumple initiative came about. It is aimed at people who had a birthday during the state of emergency (between 14 March and 20 June) and were unable to celebrate the event properly. The campaign was fortunate to gain the support of two high-profile ambassadors: the actress Toni Acosta and the singer-songwriter Rozalén; who also had their birthdays during the lockdown and who helped us to promote the competition through their social media.

More than 11,000 people took part in the competition which offered consumers the chance of winning one of the 1,000 prizes of 100 euros to spend with their friends at their favourite bar or restaurant celebrating their birthday with a glass of wine, as a token of this reunion. There was also a draw giving consumers the chance to win one of three private acoustic concerts

SW: A finales de Septiembre se celebraron en Madrid, Orense y Barcelona tres conciertos acústicos privados, protagonizados por la cantoautora Rozalén, para los ganadores del concurso #QuieroBrindarporMicumple. ¿Cómo surge esta idea impulsada por la OIVE? ¿Qué repercusión ha tenido? ¿A qué público ha ido dirigida esta campaña?

Los conciertos de Rozalén celebrados en Septiembre fueron el broche final del concurso.

#QuieroBrindarPorMiCumple: Una iniciativa puesta en marcha por la OIVE a finales del mes de junio coincidiendo con la anunciada “vuelta a la normalidad” después de los casi 3 meses de confinamiento.

Dadas las circunstancias, desde OIVE teníamos claro que debíamos trabajar en el desarrollo de mensajes y acciones con un doble propósito: por un lado, reforzar la confianza del consumidor en su vuelta a la normalidad, y por otro, apoyar y ayudar al sector de la hostelería tan castigado en esta crisis y tan importante para el sector vitivinícola. Y así fue cómo surgió la iniciativa #QuieroBrindarPorMiCumple; una propuesta dirigida a los que cumplieron un año más durante el periodo del estado de alarma (entre el 14 de marzo y el 20 de junio) y no pudieron celebrarlo en su momento y que ha contado con dos embajadoras “de lujo”: la actriz Toni Acosta y la cantautora Rozalén; que también cumplieron años durante el confinamiento y que nos han apoyado en la difusión del concurso a través de las redes sociales.

De entre los más de 11.000 participantes se sortearon 1.000 premios de 100 euros en vino para que cada ganador pudiese brindar junto a sus amigos con vino en el bar o restaurante que él eligiese; como símbolo de ese reencuentro. Y adicionalmente, se sortearon también tres conciertos acústicos privados en persona con la cantautora manchega.

Yes, the #QuieroBrindarPorMiCumple competition was part of the #SiempreMedioLlena campaign, launched by the Spanish Wine Board in response to the current situation. It aims to encourage people to look at the bright side of life and make the most of any situation they are confronted with.

If this crisis has taught us anything, apart from how important our health is, it is to value the small things in life. To be able to come and go as we please. To go to work. To be with the people we love. To share. To celebrate. Enjoy every moment... All those little things in our everyday lives that we don’t appreciate until we lose them.

And that is exactly what the #SempreMedioLlena campaign wants to encourage, that mindset that enables you to appreciate the good things in life, because now, more than ever, is the time to celebrate every small win that helps us to face what may lie ahead with optimism and hope.

And what better way to do this than with wine?

As part of this support plan, we launched a series of free online training courses for hospitality associations, schools and professionals throughout Spain.

This initiative was launched during the lockdown and, because of the positive reception it received, we decided to extend it throughout 2020, introducing new themes and tutors.

SW: Esta iniciativa se engloba en otra idea más global ¿Qué hay detrás de la campaña #SiempreMedioLlena?

Sí, el concurso #QuieroBrindarPorMiCumple se enmarca dentro de la campaña #SiempreMedioLlena, lanzada por la OIVE a raíz de la situación que estamos viviendo y que invita a las personas a ver el lado bueno de la vida y a sacar siempre lo mejor de cualquier situación que se ponga por delante.

Si algo nos ha enseñado esta crisis, aparte de lo importante que es la salud, es a valorar las pequeñas cosas. Trabajar. Estar con la gente que queremos.

Compartir. Celebrar. Disfrutar de cada momento… Todas esas pequeñas cosas que hay en nuestra rutina diaria y que no valoramos hasta que las echamos de menos.

Y, precisamente, la campaña #SiempreMedioLlena quiere reflejar esa actitud y esa forma de afrontar la vida que pone en valor todo lo bueno de cada día, porque ahora, más que nunca, es el momento de celebrar cada pequeña victoria que nos ayude a enfrentarnos con optimismo y esperanza a lo que pueda venir. Y qué mejor hacerlo que con vino.

SW: Desde OIVE también se han realizado iniciativas para apoyar a la hostelería. ¿En qué han consistido dichas campañas?

El cierre de la actividad hostelera al inicio de la pandemia de Covid-19 y la actual limitación de horarios y aforos, ha supuesto un parón sin dimensiones en el sector de la hostelería. Conscientes de esta grave situación y siendo éste un canal estratégico para el vino, desde la Organización Interprofesional del Vino de España desarrollamos un plan global de apoyo al sector de la hostelería.

Dentro de este plan de apoyo; se encuentra una oferta de cursos de formación on line gratuitos, destinados a Asociaciones, Escuelas de Hostelería y, en general, a profesionales de la restauración de toda España que arrancó durante el periodo de confinamiento y que, dada la gran acogida que tuvo, decidimos ampliar durante todo el 2020 con nuevas temáticas y profesorado.

#Chateemos SW: When we return to the “new normal”, do you intend to continue this type of activity to support the hospitality sector?

SW: Cuando volvamos a la “nueva normalidad”, ¿se tiene pensado seguir manteniendo este tipo de acciones para ayudar al sector hostelero?

This autumn we will be back with the #Chateemos activation; a very original way of enjoying a bottle of wine and tapas with friends. The Spanish Wine Board has devised an alternative way of serving wine: the “chatocubo”.

This is a new format, designed exclusively for the Wine Board, that will encourage consumers to enjoy a wine and includes ice and five “chatos” or wine glasses.

Este otoño volveremos con la activación #Chateemos; una propuesta diferente de compartir una botella de vinos entre tapas y amigos. Para ello, desde OIVE se ha ideado una forma diferente de servir el vino: el “chatocubo”. Un nuevo formato, diseñado en exclusiva para OIVE, que invitará a compartir una botella de vino acompañado de hielos y cinco chatos o copas.

The promotion will also take to the streets with the help of various #Chateemos commandos who will encourage consumers to visit hospitality venues to enjoy some wine and participate in competitions with the chance to win various prizes.

Esta promoción saldrá también a la calle con la ayuda de varios comandos #Chateemos que animarán a los consumidores a ir a los establecimientos de hostelería a compartir un vino pudiendo además participar en diversos concursos en los que se pueden obtener diferentes premios.

#Chateemos is a play on words that references the “chato” a traditional wine glass format (a short tumbler) with a new way of “chatting” that is less digital and more human.

Whether the wine is served In “chatos” or wine glasses, the intention is to offer consumers alternative drinking occasions and basically to revive Spain’s largest social network, the hospitality sector, together with our most popular beverage, wine.

A minimum of five kilos of grapes is needed to produce just one of these bottles. A sweet, ripe, full-bodied wine meant for Dionysian experiences.

A partir de las uvas blancas Assyrtiko y Aidani secadas al sol se produce este vino santo. Sus dulces e intensos aromas son resultado de la deshidratación de las delicadas uvas que una vez convertidas en pasas regalan un zumo celestial aunque muy escaso. Un mínimo de cinco quilos de uvas es necesario para elaborar una sola de estas botellas. Vino dulce, maduro, con mucho cuerpo y reservado para experiencias dionisiacas.

It is crafted from Xarel.lo and Macabeu from the Font de Jui Estate, grown and produced biodynamically. On the nose, we find aromas of ripe white fruit along with nutty and slightly toasted notes. The silent explosion of fine bubbles melts on the palate.

Its elegant bubbles with notes of yeast and the date of disgorgement on the label remind us of the time this bottle has remained silently and patiently ageing in the cellar. Citrus on entry, pastries on the mid-palate, salinity on the finish, fresh and very Mediterranean as a whole. The absence of added sugar gives it the transparency of a product crafted on the land but kissed by the sea.

Un cava ecológico y vegano con una crianza de unos cuatro años. Su elegante burbuja, con las notas de levaduras y la fecha del degüelle en la etiqueta nos confirman el tiempo de silencio en el que ha permanecido esta botella. Es un espumoso brut, con una crianza de dieciséis meses antes del degüelle, y que resulta ser muy afrutado y algo mineral. En boca la burbuja se expresa delicada, pero con mucho peso, buen cuerpo para acompañar platos contundentes.

A ROUSSILLON WINE TASTING SESSION

For the first time since the magazine’s launch, the Selectus Wines tasting panel tasted and rated the wines from the Roussillon region of France at the kind invitation of the CIVR (Roussillon wine board). As our readers will be aware, we normally provide a short description of the wines tasted by our panel of expert tasters so that the reader gets a pretty good idea of what he or she can expect from the wines. But this was such a special event that we will certainly repeat it in the future.

The 76 wines included in this tasting were wines already available on the Spanish market. They were all tasted blind and in batches of 3-4. The tasting session lasted a total of about 5 hours and the participants were able to comment on each of the wines in the batch.

The reds stood out for the fine quality of the raw material and their potential. These wines reflect a classic winemaking process and some are worth keeping an eye on in future as they showed great promise.

And, to conclude, the sweet wines. Here the ambrés stood out, with some very elegant concentrations and oxidations, preserving an elegance and a freshness worthy of the great sweet wines.

THE FOLLOWING ARE OUR WINNERS IN EACH CATEGORY…

The white wines, despite what one might have expected from their climate and location near the sea, were young, agile, fragrant, elegant and lively with a predominance of white fruit and citrus fruit. The alcohol, in general, was very well integrated, and the wines revealed some mineral notes.

The rosés were certainly attractive, especially in terms of their commercial appeal, and some showed excellent balance on the palate along with an aromatic intensity.

VINOS DE ROUSSILLON: CATA Por primera vez desde que Selectus Wines salió a la luz, y con ocasión de una colaboración con el CIVR (Conseil Interprofessionel des Vins du Rousillon), el comité de cata de Selectus Wines ha puntuado vinos para la revista.

Como ya conocerán nuestros lectores, normalmente lo que hacemos es una descripción de los vinos que han sido catados por los miembros de nuestro comité para que el lector entienda, de una forma sencilla, qué es lo que puede encontrar en el vino. Pero esta era una ocasión especial, que seguro repetiremos en el futuro.

Los 76 vinos que participaron en esta cata, fueron vinos que ya se encuentran en el mercado español. Se cataron todos a ciegas y en tandas de entre 3-4 vinos.

La sesión duró un total de unas 5 horas y en cada tanda los participantes fueron comentando sus opiniones al respecto de los vinos.

Los vinos rosados se mostraron ciertamente atractivos, sobre todo comercialmente hablando, y algunos muy equilibrados en boca y con intensidad aromática.

Los tintos destacaron por la buena calidad de la materia prima y con potencial de cara al futuro. Vinos marcados por una enología clásica, a algunos de los cuales habrá que seguir la pista porque apuntaban muy buenas maneras.

Y para finalizar, los vinos dulces. Aquí destacaron sobre manera los Ambré, con algunas concentraciones y oxidaciones muy elegantes manteniendo una elegancia y frescor dignos de los grandes vinos dulces.

A CONTINUACIÓN LES PRESENTAMOS EL “PÓDIUM” DE CADA UNA DE LAS CATEGORÍAS.

Los vinos blancos, lejos de lo que se pueda pensar a priori por su clima y situación próxima al mar, se mostraron jóvenes, ágiles y fragantes, elegantes y con vivacidad. Predominaban las frutas blancas y cítricos. El alcohol, en general, estaba muy bien integrado, y presentaban notas minerales.

Its amazing aromas, a mixture of wild herbs and iodine, and its verticality on the palate, with the elegance of yellow plum, camomile and salinity, result in a magical combination that very few wines possess. The purity of the Grenache Gris is transmitted, with a touch of Garnacha Blanca. The schist stone draws out the aftertaste and its excellent acidity will accompany it through the years.

Un auténtico flechazo. Sus asombrosos aromas, mezcla de hierbas silvestres y yodos, y su verticalidad en boca, con elegancia la ciruela amarilla, la manzanilla y la salinidad, dan como resultado una combinación mágica que muy pocos vinos poseen.

Se transmite la pureza de la Garnacha Gris, con algo de Garnacha Blanca, la piedra de esquisto lo alarga en su postgusto y su excelente acidez lo acompañará a lo largo de los años.

Few wines are made from this pink-skinned variety unblended with any other, and it also comes from 60-year-old vineyards. On the nose, we find citrus fruit, lemon, white flowers and aniseed. Good body, no lack of acidity, and a long aromatic aftertaste. It is the ideal companion at the table that pleases many palates and complements seafood.

Este monovarietal de Garnacha Gris es un hallazgo escaso. Pocos son los vinos que se encuentran elaborados a partir de esta variedad de piel rosada sin mezclar con ninguna otra, y además de viñedos de 60 años. En nariz, los cítricos, el limón, la flor blanca y los anisados. Buen cuerpo, nada escaso en acidez, y largo en su postgusto aromático.

El compañero ideal de mesa para agradar a muchos paladares y potenciar mariscos y pescados.

The notes of peach, mango and ripe citrus enhance this wine which is full-bodied yet fresh on the palate, round and silky, elegant and with a good finish. Its buttery notes and nice acidity make it a perfect partner for dishes with sauces, such as ravioli with a mango sauce, or sea scallops with a citrus sauce.

A very Mediterranean wine.

Sorprende su potencia aromática.

Las notas de melocotón, de mango y los cítricos maduros potencian este vino que en boca se muestra corpulento pero fresco, redondo y sedoso, elegante y con un buen final. Sus notas mantecosas y su buena acidez lo convierten en un aliado perfecto para platos con salsas, como unos raviolis con salsa de mango, o unas vieiras con salsa de cítricos. Un vino muy mediterráneo.

Si en color se puede asemejar a varios rosados que tenemos en mente, su aroma mineral y su salinidad en boca lo hacen único. Afrutado, aunque suave, con las notas yodadas y algo de anisados y la fruta roja que le acompaña en todo su recorrido.

De uvas seleccionadas nace este gran vino, considerado una cuvée muy especial. Generoso en nariz por sus múltiples aromas, chocolate, tabaco, regaliz, pimienta, clavo, y en boca por su exuberante fruta de bayas y buena concentración.

Aunque en la entrada se muestra potente, luego se vuelve sedoso, amable y muy elegante. Una exquisita garnacha que envuelve la boca y una atractiva syrah que la penetra. Un vino muy acertado en su frescor para tomar sin prisa, pero sin pausa.
